We love Marriott, and that is why we are titanium level- But -we just experienced the worst Marriott stay at the Aloft Sarasota downtown. In short- Do not stay here! It seems that Marriott has tried to offer an Uber cool young style with the Aloft brand to counter the so-called “stuffiness” of JW Marriott. However this is a major fail. You can be contemporary and modern and still be competent, clean, and comfortable. None of those three qualities describe the Sarasota Aloft. Our standard request is for an “upper floor non-smoking extra pillow” room. That has been on our profile for decades. We tried to upgrade our reservation using our upgrade awards -but those were not accepted by Aloft. That was fine. So we simply requested a city view —Not a suite upgrade which is an often upgrade for titanium members- just a city view. However our room looked directly at a cement wall with a window across from us. We called the front desk to request A different room with an outside view and we were told, “we gave you an upper floor”. So we suggested a change to any floor as long as we had sunshine out our window. We were told that there were no king rooms available, even though the hotels seem totally empty. We were then offered two queens. We accepted and moved our luggage to a room that didn’t look out on what seemed like a prison wall. As you can see in the pictures attached- this was not a clean room. Floors were never swept in the three days we stayed there. The refrigerator, which reminded us of our college days, sat on the floor of the bathroom. Fortunately we now carry Lysol wipes due to the pandemic as for the first time on our trip we had to use them just to clean the desktops bedside tables etc. In the photo below you can see what the charging station looked like. So much for cleanliness. Cheap thin towels and the list goes on. The next three days was a series of bad service. They didn’t clean our room one day after we had nicely mentioned to the cleaning staff in the hallway that we were leaving for the day. We were gone eight hours. Upon returning we found that nothing had been touched in our room, piles of towels on the floor -beds unmade -and when we called the front desk we were told that housekeeping had left for the day. WE then suggested that maybe someone could bring us some clean towels, not their suggestion. No one from management even contacted us during our stay- no apology- . Instead of listing more issues with both the room, the hotel, or the staff - suffice to say —stay anywhere other than the Aloft in downtown Sarasota….Unless you are checking in at midnight and leaving first thing in the morning. We wish we had read earlier reviews on this hotel which stayed similar experiences. Marriott- you are much better than this! at is why we are titanium level members - but- But we just experienced the worst Marriott stay in our lives at the Aloft Sarasota downtown. Chose this hotel for proximity to Siesta Key Beach. Upon arrival the room (105) had a musty smell (we purchased room smellys) and the drawer to the dresser was completely broken. Luckily we enjoy showers not baths because the tub was stained. I’d never take a bath there. After 2 showers the tub was water filled and took 8 hours to drain. I gave it 2 stars because the beds were clean and comfortable, the tv and air conditioning worked and the front desk (Barbara) was very nice. Normal breakfast for hotels, typical eggs, ham, biscuits & gravy stuff, but it was good. Probably wouldn’t stay here again only as a last resort.

Absolutely terrible. We had to call the front desk 3 times over a period of an hour and a half our first night there, exhausted from travel, to get an extra blanket to go to bed. That's how the trip started. The hotel and room are very clean and the view of the bay is beautiful. That's it. There are ZERO amenities at this hotel. ZERO. Horrible service at the pool with one bartender/server for drinks and food, JUST ONE, while literally every chair there was completely occupied all day. It closes at dusk so you can't eat outside. So you have one completely overpriced restaurant inside with very, very limited food items. The only option for breakfast is the full service sit down restaurant. They have ZERO convenience items or food you can buy, even a simple bagel, nothing. It's not close to ANYTHING. There's no pharmacy or convenience store or even a decent restaurant to get food at. I can't believe with COVID conditions that this hotel can't step it up and offer more options to guests, instead they have this crappy limited menu that's entirely overpriced and drinks are through the roof, and I'm not a cheap person. Good luck finding the towel room if you go to the pool, that took me another 15 minutes in itself. We left there and literally went to the Hampton Inn at University and the room and hotel was just as clean, it had all kinds of amenities, it had a Nordstrom and a fresh supermarket AND by the way every night you filled out a form and checked the items you would want for breakfast and you could check whatever and whatever quantities and they had a little bag for you every single morning packed and ready to go at your request, no charge! I would never, ever stay at this lousy hotel. If you like the view take a picture and book somewhere else!

The resort and service here is remarkable! Whenever I see Jane Gatz, she goes above and beyond to make sure our requests are fulfilled immediately. She has so much patience with my family and the best attitude no matter what! I come here pretty frequently with different guests and family in town, and drinks/food are consistently exceptional, and we’re always treated like royalty. Mara, Jesse, Mara, Don, Tatum, all have been SUPER accommodating and especially considerate and caring about my special needs brother, which is priceless. The staff here makes our transition from the car to the beach a breeze every single time. If you have any issues, they make it a joy to help you out regardless of how busy it is that day!

The new hotel, the facilities, supplies and everything are very new. The breakfast is pure western style. The airport pick-up service feels average. When it arrives, it is said that there will be no pick-up service after 7 o'clock. The drop-off said that there is no early shift. It is estimated that it is only available during normal working hours. It is too early or too late to be prepared to take a taxi back and forth. There are McDonald's and pizza nearby. It's okay to deal with it. It's okay if you don't pay much attention to food, or take a taxi to go to a far place.

We were here for three nights and were pleased with the quality of the accommodations. The building has been beautifully designed. We appreciated the availability of made-to-order "bar food" and snack foods if we did not want to drive to a restaurant. Free breakfast is also available. Our room did not have good water pressure in the tub/shower, which was a problem. This did not get fixed while we were there, but the hotel took our food tab off our bill to compensate. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a good experience and would recommend this place.

This feels like a tropical paradise, outside on the grounds. The pools are warm and clean. There are hammocks tucked in quiet corners, a fire pit, lovely plants and bushes provide privacy and a peaceful atmosphere. The location is just a ten minute walk to the most beautiful beach we’ve ever been to. We were slightly disappointed with the size and furnishings of our room, for the price we paid. The appliances are small and getting old. The shower didn’t drain perfectly and the bathroom is very small with no where to put typical supplies, a towel, or clothing. The windows were a little dirty and do not open or have screens. The reservation process was easy and flexible. Parking was secure and convenient. The neighborhood is safe and clean. With a few updates and small improvements this would be a better value.

Was looking specifically for property with 2 separate BR/BA and "kitchen". Location is right across from SRQ. The front desk staff was fantastic--so friendly with a "can do" attitude (the staff at The Modern and Art Ovation could take lessons from these folks). Room was very spacious and comfortable. Lighting is too dim in the kitchen and needs stronger bulbs. Good refrig with automatic ice maker. Cookware must be 10 years old--at least invest in non-stick or provide steel wool pads to do dishes. Kitchen did not have a baking pan but staff found one in 5 minutes and also supplied me with aluminum foil. Very easy to cook basic meals there. Lot's of outlets to plug in electronics and work areas. Pool area furniture is filthy and old--wouldn't want to touch any of it. Needs new hairdryers. The smoke detector went off every time I dried my hair. Grill looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months so that wasn't an option. Property has complimentary basic breakfast. All in all, great team and great location. Not fancy in any way but really met our needs

Stayed in the suite for 3 nights between Christmas & New Years for a fairly nice stay. Room was spacious & fairly new with a king bedroom, living room, & balcony. Nice shower, but low water pressure. We faced a tge wood's which was nice, but the balcony was exposed on the side to the road, dumpster, & parking lot which weren't all a bit noisy (would have preferred a wall). There was no maid service nor restaurants due to COVID which was annoying as restaurants are open in FL. Also no ice machine on the 2nd floor... Also annoying. Spent 2 evenings at the firepit which were enjoyable. Would stay again, but would much prefer a quieter room at the other end.

Called the hotel the morning of 3/14/22 to see if I could check-in at 2p. Front Desk said room was ready for my arrival. Was actually late and arrived at hotel at 4p. Check-in process was a little long with only one agent checking in a line guests. Was assigned room 258. Arrived at room and door was open, all the lights on, AC off, refrigerator door open with several yogurts inside. The bed was made but pillow cases were extremely, wrinkled and looked slept on and the comforter was dirty/stained. I called FD and they left me on hold for more than 10 minutes. I finally hung up and went down to the desk. They apologized and assigned me room 238. Went to new room. Door was locked and upon entry, seemed ok. Went to sit on bed and when I pulled the comforter down, I found the sheets were stained. They may have been washed, but the stains were so bad, the sheets should have been thrown out. Further examination showed very dirty bathroom floors. I called FD and they sent Housekeeping up to change the sheets and clean the floors. All around a very bad first impression. Will not be staying at an Even hotel again.
