Westin is yet another business masking a massive decrease in service behind “pandemic safety.” The hotel itself is nice. Beds are new and comfortable, rooms are spacious, and the fitness room is well appointed. It’s the only hotel I’ve stayed in recently that had a comfortable HVAC system. The fan can be set to stay on, so the air remains fresh when heating/cooling aren’t running which helped me sleep. Rooms have a mini-fridge and a lovely big TV. However, I stayed six nights and my room was only visited by housekeeping once. They didn’t even bother to restock the in-room coffee, provide more shampoo, or refresh towels. I had to stop at the front desk. This was ostensibly for pandemic safety but I wasn’t in my room so any risk from simply replenishing supplies was purely imaginary. The hotel restaurant is only open for breakfast and the rest of the day service is only in the bar. The bar was somewhat understaffed and waits for drinks got lengthy in the evening. Coffee was only available in the morning. All of this is fine at AirBnB rates, but Westin is still charging as if they are a four-star hotel. What am I paying for if there is so little service? I also can’t recommend anyone book a conference here. I was attending a hobby conference where we were paying out of pocket. Westin didn’t provide any signage and allowed a ravenous horde of people from a professional conference to descend on our limited snacks. They messed up an expensive Friday dessert event by running out of food. Rooms were shifted around on short notice and some of our classes were crammed into a tiny, stuffy, room for six hours. To add insult to injury on Saturday night the hotel hosted a frat party and drunk kids roamed the halls singing loudly, laughing, and banging on doors until 3 AM. Westin didn’t have enough staff to keep these unruly guests under control. I am unlikely to stay here again without asking a LOT of questions in advance and frankly Marriott should be ashamed.

Very satisfied with the stay, the hotel has just been renovated, about 5-10 minutes walk from the union station, turn left from the station gate and turn left, you can see it from afar, very conspicuous. The front desk is on the 2nd floor. If the night arrives too late, you need to press the intercom outside the main entrance of the 1st floor to let the front desk open. A few front desks are very welcoming, not a super metropolis hotel is not the same. Breakfast is similar to other hotels, that is, many things need to be heated by themselves, which is very interesting. There is also a canteen at the front desk, and snacks are big. My room is equipped with a microwave and a large fridge. The windows in the room need to be opened before the main power switch of the door is opened. When I left, let the front desk help me find the rental, and the rental fee was reasonable, very good.

Stayed here recently for a conference; requested and received Suite Night Upgrade to the Presidental Suite! WOW! Now, the hotel and surrounding area had been without power for the previous 22 hr and just regained it a few hours before I arrived. Suite was def warm- and I thought it was because of the power outage. Tried to turn up the fan which didn't change a thing. (in fact, I turned all 3 thermostats I found in there down to 60 and high fan and it never changed over 4 days! So- this suite is on the 38th floor and spans the width of the building so different views of the city from LR/DR and BR. Large 4 poster bed-- but there is a 4 inch ”ledge” around the mattress which is waist high to me (at 5-6”) making it extremely difficult to get into! Then discovered the bedside table and lamp was too far away to reach from bed...3 of the 4 pillows were incredibly lumpy- glad I only needed one pillow! Flat sheet on the bottom which wasn't long enough to be tucked in on top or side so it looked like a war had occurred in the morning (oh- and 2 comforters on the bed but don't know if it ever got cooler than 75 or so!). HUGE bathroom- big double size tub (but the row of lights over it had 3/4 of bulbs out), big steam shower with fabulous water pressure (but mildew on ceiling and amongst the marble tile), large bottles of fancy products in the shower (that could not be opened for those of you worried about that-I'm not, but see lots of angst about this). Several spots in teh BR had mildew, and lightening wasn't great for makeup. LR has 2 love seat sized couches (found some sort of canisters in between the seat cushions- ew!) large desk, table for 8 on the DR side plus a full kitchen (but a dirty black plastic serving spoon was on the stovetop!). Lots of nice artwork throughout. Carpet was stained in many areas. Never saw a TV remote though TVs were in the bedroom, bathroom and LR (didn't look real hard in LR, wasn't watching TV anyway, but thought it was odd). Housekeeping did come in after 2nd night, remade the bed with the same (wrinkled) sheets. Conference rooms were pretty darn cold. Oh, and did tell front desk that the AC wasn't working, but nothing changed. (Heard someone else on 38th floor complaining too). Lounge hours are limited- never made it there. Did have a bite to eat in the restaurant bar one evening- def not worth the calories or $. Unfortunately not much around open after 5 or 6, esp on a Sunday evening. Lobby is gorgeous, lots of seating in many areas incl tables with outlets for working.

The check in was very good, an agent with a spontaneous smile assigned us a very quiet room with a beautiful view. The super clean room, with everything you need, excellent bed, towels, amenities, we didn't have to request anything. Delicious dinner, reasonable price, convenient parking in the building, very good service.

Kansas City has some crazy weather. One day it’s Sunnyside up next day it’s raining cats and dogs. All in all it was a great weekend. There are many many bars and restaurants in walking distance or the tram in the back of the hotel is free, which is a big plus. Didn’t really like that valet parking wasn’t included or that there is no option for self parking. So the only choice you have is to valet park unless you want your car unattended. I will say, the valet is worth it 100%. Those people are rockstars at their job. Shaleua was the one to help us out. This young lady so kindhearted and patient with us she explained to us that valet parking was the best option. (Even though we didn’t want to pay $32.

This hotel is not high on the traveler ranked list in Kansas City, but I was hoping that since it is a Hampton that we would find good accommodations. They weren't terrible, mind you, but so many things could be better! We didn't meet a single pleasant person working at the front desk and as is typical of most hotels today, they need to clean better. The breakfast provisions ran out fairly quickly and many things were not replenished. What was there early on was a typical Hampton breakfast, but adequate. Parking is $18/day and while the lot seems ok, you have to walk down the alley and across the street to get to it from the hotel. The best part of the hotel, in my opinion, is its location on the streetcar. It's a short trip to Union Station and Crown Center.

Very nice hotel for a few nights in Kansas City. Location between the real city centre and the Country Club Plaza area is nice. Looking both destinations are reaching with a small half an hour walk. Free breakfast is also enough. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

I booked this hotel as I have not stayed here previously and wanted to try it out. The GM Jeff checked us in and noted that we have been upgraded in our room, though it appeared to be in the room I booked online. He told us that to get to our room, we should go outside to the parking garage elevators, go to the fourth floor, cross over to other elevators to get to the sixth floor where our room was located. We were surprised by this, and soon realized that if we just take the elevator right by our room straight down, we were at the elevators right next to the lobby, where we were checked in. Why we were given these bizarre directions, we have no idea. When going to bed, we noticed that there was dried blood on one of the pillowcases, along with an old stain on the comforter. We got rid of those and called the front desk to let them know about this. In their embarrassment, they comped us one night. The concierge service was OK but on the day of discharge after texting in the morning about extending the checkout time, I texted about getting help for getting our bags to our car and never got a response, so I contacted the front desk myself. A disappointing and gross experience and not really sure this hotel is worth the value that is placed on it. No idea why the GM gave these odd directions; is it so we don’t come back again?

With all of the hotel choices near the Kansas City airport, I should have been able to make a better choice. We live in the KC metro area and were scheduled to fly out that morning, but after a number of delays our flight was canceled. We were booked on the same flight the following morning and decided to stay near the airport instead of going home since we'd used a car service to get to the airport and it just seemed like less hassle. We arrived at the hotel a little after noon and were told we couldn't check in until a room was cleaned. Given that checkout is at 11, I assumed that it wouldn't be all that long until a room was ready. I checked in with the gal at the front desk a couple of times and was told that she was waiting to hear from housekeeping. I asked if she couldn't initiate the contact and she indicated she'd do so, though never did. I even found the second floor cleaning crew who told me that all the rooms on the second floor were cleaned. Normal check-in is at 3 and a little before 3 I was called to the front desk to check-in. I honestly can't see a valid business reason to keep people waiting in the lobby until 3 if there's a room ready. Thankfully, not every hotel does that. There certainly wasn't anything in the lobby on which we could spend money, with the possible exception of a pop machine. This forced wait is the primary, but not the only reason, I'll ever stay at one of these properties again. Calling the room a ”suite” is laughable. It appeared to be pretty much an average size motel room. I guess what made it a ”suite” was a curtain in the middle of the room that could be pulled to divide the bed area from the rest of the room. The curtain only pulled about 75% across the width of the room, no it's not like there's any sense of privacy on either side. Also, for some reason that evades logic, the TV is on the end of the room with the bed, so it's not like someone could watch TV without disturbing someone who is sleeping. The pillows were very, very soft and not suitable for side-sleepers. The towel were very thin and the water pressure very low. There were other minor deficiencies that, while not critical, show a significant lack of attention to detail and a failure of supervision. My apologies for not having photos to share. Thanks for reading. If you've found this to be helpful, I'll appreciate a thumbs up below.

I understand renovations, but there needs to be more coordination with your contractors. You had me in Room #207 when the room directly above me was the specific room being torn apart and drilled in all day during my stay. I wasn't planning to be in the room all day, but found myself sick with a sinus infection and the constant loud drilling was an absolute nightmare. Also, when I booked the hotel, it said that ONLY the lobby was being renovated -- I see that this is updated now to reflect renovations of the whole property, but you really could have provided more notice upfront to guests. I would have stayed elsewhere if you had, e.g., I decided not to stay at the neighboring Hilton precisely because there was notice that the parking lot would be unavailable. To be quite honest, I understand the need to make money but when it comes down to it, your reputation is all you have. Did it ever cross your mind to close entirely for a month or two to reemerge as a hotel properly put together, that's not an embarrassment to your name? It was a terrible experience and a waste of my earned Hilton points. I am feeling very done with Hilton and its family of brands after this.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kansas City Airport

We are finishing up a road trip of around 4,500 miles through eleven states. We have stayed at ten hotels, four of which were Holiday Inn Expresses, and this is, by far the worst not only Holiday Inn Express but the worst out of all of them. And, in fact, it's the worst hotel I can remember staying at in a very long time. When we checked in (2 rooms), I found the trash can in the bathroom sitting on the counter. Then my daughter called saying that there was something sticky all over the nightstand in her room and when she tried to call the front desk, she discovered that the phone didn't work. She also found popcorn on the floor in the room. She called them on her cell phone, and they said they'd send someone to clean and their excuse was that they were undergoing renovations. How in the heck do renovations impact the cleanliness of a room?About that time, the fire alarm went off. We were in the lobby, so we went outside and waited. Eventually the alarm stopped. We went inside and got in line to ask for a new room for my daughter. There was one lady helping a line of customers while some guy ran around like a chicken with its head cut off accomplishing nothing. After a while, he went to the other computer at the front desk, and we were able to talk to him. I found out later that he was the General Manager which I would never have guessed from his obvious lack of leadership ability or composure. We explained to him the situation and he said he'd sent someone to clean the room (Shouldn't that be done before the room is turned over to a customer?) but that the phone couldn't be repaired until Monday because Maintenance wasn't available on the weekends. He told us that we could have another room or could cancel the reservation. I though he was very condescending and rude. We opted for another room and then he told us that it would be on the fourth floor (dirty room was on the second floor) and that we'd have to carry our bags up because the elevators wouldn't work until the fire department got there and reset them. (I heard him later telling the firemen that arrived that he'd silenced the alarm. Shouldn't it be the fire department that makes sure the building is safe and gives the green light for people to reenter the premises?) We told him we could handle getting the luggage up the stairs and that we'd like to check out the new room. He gave us a key and we did so and found it to be satisfactory although the remote for the TV didn't work. (In the old room, the back of the remote was missing.) In my room, I later discovered that someone had written in pen on the arm of the sofa, an outlet was black from some sort of electrical issue that apparently caused arcing and the sink in the bathroom drained ridiculously slowly. Apparently housekeeping doesn't report maintenance needs to management or maybe they do, and management just doesn't address the issues??? As far as breakfast service, it was by far the worst of any Holiday Inn Express we stayed at on

We were nearing the end of a long road trip, having stayed at 6 Hampton Inns and one Home2 Suites along the way. This hotel was an absolute pleasure for us. Our greeting and interaction with Emily at registration was positive, upbeat and clearly showed she saw us as valued guests. She volunteered information about our Honored Guest status that no one else ever told us! Our room was clean, and unlike the Hilton properties, fully supplied and and everything worked! The guest wifi was the best of our trip, which these days is a big deal for travelers. We travel near this hotel once or twice each year, but usually drive through KC. This hotel makes a stop more likely for us. Lots of restaurant choices within less than a mile radius. It is a great place to stay.
