We stayed three nights in late October. Check-in was perfect. Our room on the 5th floor overlooked the hotel and the sea in the distance. Good lunch in the lounge cafe. We did not care for the nightly buffet service. The breakfast was pretty good, with outdoor tables available on the terrace, weather permitting. There are other restaurants not linked to the hotel within 5 - 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel lobby. A typhoon struck while we were there. No problem. We could walk all the way to the superb "Plant Museum," a huge greenhouse not far from the hotel, without being exposed to the weather. Spent the afternoon there while it rained outside. On a sunny day, we thoroughly enjoyed strolling about the Tadao And designed gardens. Location of the hotel is good for air quality and quiet. Only 7 minutes by taxi from the famous Ando-designed 'Water temple'. Excellent service, too, from all hotel staff members. Thanks! Highly recommended.

I really want to like this place a lot, really. I mean, from the pictures and the concept, this place sounds like paradise in the middle of the mountain. Well, while it technically is (architecture-wise), the hotel is very basic and without much amenities. So unless you prepare yourself for a very basic stay, you may not enjoy staying here very much. Designed by Tadao Ando, the architect who did a couple of other landmarks in the same island as well (Awajiyumebutai, Konpukuji Temple, Westin Awaji, etc), the hotel building is very beautiful, echoing the same modernistic lines of his other designs. The vast sea view against the mountain was also the most welcome view off the dining room balcony. You can just stay there for hours just looking at the gently crashing waves. Now,.... getting to the hotel is a bit of a hassle if you are not driving. What you can do once you reach the bus stop at Awaji IC at the tip of the island, is you can take another bus from there to Tsuna Port. (There is an English-speaking tourist information inside Awaji IC building. You can get directions and map from them). Once you reach Tsuna Port, take a taxi to the hotel. The property is about 10-15 mins up the mountain and it costs about 2,000 yen. I dont think it is accessible by foot as it is quite a steep slope. The hotel building and grounds are actually quite small. It has 8 levels, with guest rooms on level 2 and 3. The reception is on level 8. The lift to go down to the guest rooms area is outside the reception area. While it's a beautiful design and allows guests to see the breathtaking ocean view while walking the bridge to the lift, I can't imagine it's very practical when it rains though. Food was elaborate, creative, beautifully cooked and instagram worthy, but to be honest, they did not taste very fantastic. But if you do not opt for breakfast or dinner in the property, you have to drive/cab out to town to find alternative food. One thing to note though, the hotel actually had several different types of dinner sets, which you can choose by stay package. But this was not an option in Bookingw.com. It was just shown as "Breakfast and Dinner included", without any dish option. So this was quite disappointing, really. It'd be great if there were dinner set options. The room was very spacious. The in-room amenities were adequate. There was whirlpool bathtub in the bathroom, with a toilet TV (and remote!), so you can enjoy your soak. If you get bored of the bathroom, after washing up, you can soak at the public whirlpool bath pool on level 3. The room has a balcony, but the view isn't that great, because the ocean view you are expecting, is blocked by a row of tall hedges. Maybe it was for safety reason (pretty sure the hotel is on a cliff), but surely there are other ways to keep guests safe? Also, make sure you buy everything you need before you reach the hotel. There is a mini market at Awaji IC, but I dont think there is any shop (even

Small hotel along coastal area of awaji, this along with 2 other sister hotels which we can visit make up the main attraction here. Main issue here is language, but once if we have the patience to sort out the communication issues with Google translate, then all should be OK. I suggest setting aside 15 min or so to have your queries heard by the staff. Shuttle amongst the hotels can be had by shuttle bus or boat. Food was good and there's a welcome drink which costs around 450 yen. Transport is via bus from sannomiya Station In kobe. Would recommend this place if you are ready to be patient in terms of communication.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night around New Year's. Parking is free with your stay, check-in was smooth and the concierge helped take our luggage upstairs to our room. Our room was located on the 6th floor of the hotel facing the ocean. Power lines and the trees obstruct the beach view, but past that you could see a nice view of the water. The room itself was very clean and came with all kinds of amenities. There are two public baths inside the hotel - one in the main building on the 6th floor and one in a building adjacent to the main one. I recommend going to both for the experience but budgeting more time for the one on the 6th floor as the baths are much nicer there. Also one thing we noticed was that the outdoor baths were restricted to the male baths only, and my girlfriend was slightly disappointed that she couldn't enjoy an outdoor onsen. Included in our stay was dinner and breakfast. Dinner was a course meal that had two items that could be chosen from a selection (I had a fish and a steak dish). Overall the food was very good, we had no complaints. For dessert you could choose a variety of items from the restaurant's dessert buffet. The cakes and ice cream were pretty mediocre, but the gelatin-type desserts were quite good. Breakfast was a standard buffet at the same restaurant that had a variety of Western and Japanese selections. We especially liked the dried apricots that they served near the yogurt and cereals. Overall a very good stay for a relaxing New Year's. Would recommend to couples visiting Awaji and wanting a more luxury experience.
