We’ve just spent one night at the Sa Barrera and found it to be a delightful little property. The hotel is 3* so the hotel furnishings and public spaces reflect that, but the super friendly staff give 5* service - special mention to Carmen on reception and Ty the waiter at dinner. The beds were comfortable, the air con worked great and not noisy, and it was spotlessly clean. The hotel is set on a hill so quite a few steps down to the beach, which is a lovely cove with sunbeds and umbrellas etc and s few restaurants and bars. Great exercise! If we are in Menorca again we would definitely stay here, it’s great value for money and only 12 minutes in a taxi to the airport:) Ps breakfast selection really good, and freshly squeezed orange juice too.

I’m not a complainer by nature and would rather not review at all if I can’t be positive . My wife and I have been going to Menorca for nearly 25 years . We love the island and it’s people and consider many local bar and restaurant owners friends . We stayed a night last week at the hotel in extraordinary circumstances, with much of the island having been hit with a powercut lasting days . The hotel bar and restaurant had the benefit of emergency generators unlike many other restaurants in mercadal that night and was extra busy and we’d have forgiven all manner of issues with service . The restaurant staff were pleasant and rushed off their feet . My wife and kids main courses arrived 15 minutes before mine . Not something I would dream of complaining about given the pressure the staff - and indeed kitchen staff were under . I had ordered the shoulder of lamb - as had the Englishman on the table next to us, and mine arrived when his did . The lamb looked lovely , however it was cold having not been reheated adequately. Nor was that of the chap on the next table . Apart from the fact that this dish needs to be steaming hot and melt in the mouth ,and being cold was fibrous and unpleasant , it just wasn’t safe to eat . I left most of mine but wasn’t surprised that the chap next door didn’t feel like he should be paying for his and had politely complained , at which point the bill generator ,who I took to be the owner as he’d referred to the dish being his grandmother’s recipe , became absolutely unacceptably rude and offensive , point blank refused to do anything for the chap and his bill or indeed offer any kind of alternative other than to pay the full amount . He clearly had a very good command of English but wasn’t interested in listening . I was asked by the chap on the next table to recount the fact my own lamb was cold and I got a mouthful as well so when I got my bill I just paid up and resolved to write this review . We won’t be back . Shame as the staff there were clearly embarrassed by his behaviour and had all been lovely . He must have made excellent money that night , with full occupancy in hotel and restaurant. I’m prepared to accept he may have been under stress but I’ve never experienced such unpleasant customer service . On a positive note the hotel family room B&B not badly priced, was quite narrow but was nicely appointed and clean , breakfast was decent and the swimming pool area had sauna and jacuzzi and was covered . Had the man next to us and me ordered steak our experiences and this review might have been entirely different!

My family of 5 visited the Carema Garden Village for 11 nights in October half board plus. On arrival our room was ready early but we booked a side sea view and was unaware it was a duplex room with a flight of stairs in the room and 3 flights of stairs to get in. It was not suitable for our children but we where offered a pool view right away which suited. Obviously we signed a disclaimer so we could not claim back to extra money we paid for the sea view room. On this occasion it suited. The room we got needed a bit of tlc. The flooring wasn't laid correctly and the shower head had to be held as the fitting was hanging off the wall but other than that it was spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. Maids changed towels every day which is great when there is 5 people in the room. We used the Garden village pool every day which was a bit cold but not to cold to swim and stay in for the kids. There was no lifeguards at the garden village pool. The pool next door was a busier with the all inclusive guests and music on all day with a bar. We visited the splash park several times but it had some issues, as you walk in the pirate ship area the slope is very slippery, like ice slippery, my wife and 19 year old fell straight over. I think the angle is just to steep. We also seen atleast another 10 people fall around the area over the holiday. No warning signs... we walked around and stepped off the opposite side it made it possible to go in, otherwise we probably wouldn't have went. The water slides are great for kids maybe up to 12 or 14. I must also say the lifeguards where all really great helping the kids and having a laugh. As we where Half board the restaurant was well used and quite rightly so as the food was 5 out of 5 stars. Plenty of choice with fresh pizza and carvery chefs. Could not fault the food. The big beach is accessible via a wooden staircase built in to the rock and you will need to be able to climb allot of stairs to get there and back. The shop on site was like shopping at the airport... very expensive examples 90cents for a 330ml water or €2.50 for a big bag of crisps. We only bought snacks but if you are self catering it would be better to have a car. We will probably go back to this hotel all the staff where nice, helpful, and pleasant the area is beautiful and the weather was great. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 for 1 room needing a bit of upkeep 2 the big ramps i had to push a wheelchair up and down in the hotel next door to use the kids entertainment and splash park. 3 the beach next to the hotel restaurant has allot of flies on it at night on the sea grass so when you walk past going to the restaurant you get attacked by flies and mosquitoes. We all had some bites. Hope this review helps you decide on your holiday. I would definitely return to the Carema Garden Village.

We visited in October and although the hotel is lovely, the restaurant wasn't open for dinner which was a bit of a problem for us as I am not that mobile and found having to walk up and down hills rather tiring, looking for somewhere to eat every night. I would much have preferred to eat in the hotel. The bar lacked atmosphere as the only member of staff on dutyin the evenings was the receptionist, and if she was busy, we had to wait up to 30 mins to be served a drink. We were given a garden room which was lovely but was below the bar/reception balcony and the furniture being rearranged at gone midnight was ear shattering! During the season I expect this is a lovely hotel but was lacking out of season. The morning receptionist, Rosemaria was excellent! High praise for her.

I have spent a week with my mother in this hotel and would definitely recommend it. If you are thinking of visiting Menorca, staying in Ciutadella is the best option as all restaurants and bars are nearby and you have easy access to Me-1, the main road that takes you to and fro the airport/ port and to all the beaches... and don’t think twice about staying at Los 5 Sentidos! New, well organised and sparkly clean rooms, friendly staff and lovely breakfast... and the city on your doorstep. If you are looking for a warm host to welcome you and discreetly guide you through your holiday, Diego (the owner and manager) is your man. He’s been very helpful with directions and suggestions of what to do/ where to go/ where to eat and has also suggested a great car hire, cheap and hassle free. Can’t wait to return :)

Whilst looking for a boutique style property we came across the Ca Na Xini. Located in the countryside, 35 minutes easy drive from the airport, this pretty hotel was an ideal location from which to explore this beautiful island. The bedroom was bright and airy, with a comfortable king bed that was complimented with a spacious bathroom. Calder Room was one of 4 rooms located on the top floor had a velux window (therefore without a direct view out over the grounds, which was not a problem, however if you would like to look out of a window check the hotel description). The 4 rooms on the first floor had views over the beautifully manicured gardens and surrounding countryside. Approximately 10 minutes from Cala Galdana, 20 minutes to Cuitadella and 25 mins to Fornells we found this lovely property to be a great choice for us. The wonderfully relaxed dining experiences all take place el fresco. Breakfast consists, fresh fruit, yoghurts, a selection of meats and cheeses along with fresh breads and pastries. I found the pool area extremely quiet and relaxing, with large umbrellas and a shaded area with tables and chairs where lunch could be eaten. Anna the lovely waitress in the restaurant, whom we saw in the evenings whilst having a drink, was delightful, always smiling, was clearly enthusiastic and very attentive to the diners. In fact we found all of the staff to be excellent. The property offers wine and cheese tasting tours with the produce being made on site sold in the well presented farm shop. The perfect escape for adults, we would most definitely recommend this lovely hotel and intent returning to experience the tranquility.

Comfortable self catering apartment with a choice of 2 pools, jacuzzi and sauna - but as we were there in October we stuck to the pool and sauna on the ground floor. The kitchen is fine with 2 rings and a plentiful supply of tea towels (we needed our washing up liquid) and there is almost instant and copious hot water for showers and washing up. The apartment was serviced every day and kept very clean. Good sound-proofing - we didn't hear any neighbours although being near the main square you can hear the Friday sumba class which stops before 9pm and there was a wedding reception one night but that also finished early-ish.

I honestly cannot fault this place - I feel so lucky to have found it! We stayed here for just 2 nights, 9 women celebrating my birthday and it was tranquil, private and beautiful. The gardens are stunning, the rooms are quaint - very Spanish, which was so in keeping with the whole feel of the place. I had a suite and it was lovely. The staff were unbelievably attentive, they tended to our every need - above and beyond - And they didn’t seem to mind our crazy antics dancing by the pool! You can walk easily into the gorgeous Es Castell for dinner and get a taxi to Mahon for about 10 euros. I cannot recommend it highly enough - I’ll be back next year for my 41st!!
