I booked the hotel as I took my son to view Exeter university. The location was great, room very clean. Staff were very pleasant & helpful. The only thing that let it down was the breakfast, I couldn’t actually eat the hot food. Eggs were tasteless, sausages didn’t taste like meat & bacon was chewy.

Really great to have an old-style furnished Travelodge - where there's actually a dedicated suitcase space, decent clothes hanging space, shelves, plus enough work surface to accommodate tea/coffee/foodstuffs, dressing table accoutrements (of which I have loads!), all ones work documents plus laptop, and then a TV! Also a large enough bedside table to have phone, tissues, glass of water, specs nearby.

We stayed because our husbands were going to the rugby and the girls having a trip into Exeter. Location of the hotel was perfect not a long walk to the train station for us to get into town. On arrival at 12.30 reception was full queues of people trying to check in or leave bags. A man was sent out to take our car registration and names and then we could wait in the bar until they were ready for us. The boys waited in the bar and we headed off. They were checked in before 3 when they had to leave for the rugby which was good but to be honest we knew we were early and would have been happy leaving the luggage. We were told out of the 3 couples we had an upgrade to what turned out to be an accessible room and to be honest it isn’t an upgrade. I would have preferred the room we had booked which certainly wasn’t accessible. One of the other couples was over charged by £70 on check in - which we did sort out on our return. Whilst shopping we checked to see if our mobile key was ready but no we had to go to check in and do that on return to the hotel so they could Id us seems to defeat the object. On arrival back joined a queue again to activate the mobile key. It seems to be the longest slowest check of any hotel I have stayed in. When we finally got to the front we were given a normal key as it might take a while for the mobile one to work. Good job because it took nearly an hour to activate and then when I tried it it wouldn’t work with my phone. We then went to the bar before dinner again it was packed we managed to get a table but only 2 servers so wait for drinks was a little long. Price was ok. We had a table booked in the view for dinner and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. Again restaurant was very busy but the staff were lovely. Couldn’t have water. On the table as the waitress informed us they had run out of jugs, we said we would wait but she said no they had no jugs? She had to keep topping up from a bottle and she wasn’t allowed to leave the bottle on the table. Perhaps a trip to the next door IKEA May have sorted that. The main meal came with various items missing off of each plate, salsa, salad and chips. Overall was nice though. Breakfast was an another matter, we sat in the bar as the restaurant was packed. The design of the restaurant for breakfast is awful. People queueing for hot food past the croissants and bread and toaster so someone is always in the way. The fruit and cold meat and cheeses on the end of the hot line so missed by a lot of people. Only Greek or soya p,Ian yoghurt noth8ng flavoured, ran out of compote and fruit. Had to ask for the orange juice to be topped up. Just very disorganised and badly set out. Now I know it was a busy rugby weekend but the hotel are obviously fully aware of this. The staff were pleasant and the food in the evening lovely, in the morning ok. The room was clean and lovely - definitely not an upgrade though so please don’t make out it was. I would stay again if husband was going t

We have stayed at the buckerall lodge before as we married in the hotel. We were looking forward to s weekend away bit of Christmas spirit. Never again will I stay at this hotel, pre booked, turned up at time agreed on booking given key by very inefficient staff more worried about there phone and joking with each other, should not be front of house to greet guest very poor manners. Give key then had to ask which room, went up to room waiting to enjoy down time . Entered room OMG door open, towels on floor clearly dirty, bed looked slept in closer inspection reveal used sheets dirty marks dirty pillows well not sure the constitute pillows. Went to complain and the young lady at reception came up told us it was clean and I pointed out pulling the covers over bed and picking up towels was not cleaning the room, she left and huffed at my wife. Again I returned to reception and complained and was offered free drinks for the wait and inconvenience. My wife came down and with the look of sheer disappointment,I asked for a refund as I would not stay now even if it was free. The young lady who had checked our room !!! was talking to another member of staff had to be reminded not to swear in front of guest. This is not the weekend away we wanted Please think before you book SAD DISAPPOINTING

Having stayed at the Jury's Inn chain of hotels previously in other cities we decided to stay at the hotel when we visited Exeter. The hotel enjoys a great location and the facilities are ok but unfortunately the servicing leaves a lot to be desired. There is no mention of this anywhere on their website and you are not told at any stage when you book and you only find out once you have paid and visit your room. On entering your room you find a nicely laminated note from the management advising you that your rooms will not be serviced on short stays. The management are using the excuse of the Covid pandemic to save costs and avoid doing your beds, emptying your bins, changing your towels, replenishing your toilet paper and the complimentary tea/ coffee. This is now only provided on request. My previous experience of this chain of hotels was that you also had a small fridge in the room and you were provided with complimentary bottles of water, this is no longer the case. Effectively the client experience has been watered down yet the prices remain the same. The client experience received from the staff was inconsistent, some were great others were very unhelpful. The hotel is not cheap and based on their current offering way overpriced.

We used this hotel as our base to tour South Devon. The hotel was above and beyond our expectations. Our room was comfortable, the bathroom was large and well stocked. The hotel staff were exceptional, shout out for Alfie who was so friendly and helpful. The breakfast is amazing! Great choice of individually packaged cereals, fresh fruit, danish pastries, and a choice of hot breakfasts including dishes such as poached eggs with smoked salmon. All topped of by a great choice of clipper teas or coffee. Can totally recommend this little gem of a hotel.

Arriving late in the evening, you could be easily mistaken in thinking it’s more like a motel or truck stop. However, this is definitely not so. In the morning you’re greeted warmly by friendly staff like Raj and Grant who simply can’t do enough. Breakfast is full English, toast, porridge, fresh fruit salad. Plenty of tea and coffee. We didn’t always need cleaners in our room, but when we did, not only did they tidy our bed but took the time to fold our personal clothing on the bed so it looked cared for - just like a touch of home! The room was clean and spotless. It’s a great hotel with a vibrant mix of staff. We didn’t use the hotel for evening meals but it seems to be very popular as it is for conferences and weddings. We’d definitely come back again.

Hotel room is good, big, very clean, good value for money, but the hotel is old-fashioned villas without elevators, the hotel did not consider the age level when arranging guests to stay, I was arranged for the 4th floor room, had asked to change the lower floor room, However, the hotel said that there is no such room, and it can only be forced to climb the stairs every day. It is very tired. Fortunately, the reception staff has a good service attitude and helped me to carry the heavy big boxes upstairs. I hope that the hotel will consider the age of the guests and the convenience of staying when arranging the room.

This was the third hotel we stayed at on this UK trip. We arrived a few hours before the stated check in time and instead of ”you can check in now, but I'll have to charge you for an extra day” we were told that the room would probably be ready in an hour - they'd let us know and we were welcome to have a drink or some lunch. We had both a drink and some lunch and then we were informed that the room was ready and our bags had already been taken upstairs. No extra charge. And unlike so many hotels these days, they actually tidy the room and change out the linens on a daily basis. Just like before Covid! The staff are delightful. After a day or so the staff get to know you and what your preferences are. They brought me glasses of water when I was sitting outside without being asked. The bartenders were very good at mixing cocktails and perfectly made drinks they were unfamiliar with. The food in the restaurant was exceptionally good, although we had one hiccup with a breakfast. We only had dinner there one evening - for a group of 8. It was a bit pricy but the service made it worth it. Very close to the cathedral and shopping. Staff suggestions for dining outside the property were mostly very good. I wish they'd had a lift as it was very difficult for me to navigate the stairs, but I was aware of that before we arrived and I managed. (They did bring the bags down for us when we checked out.) We were a group of three couples staying and they were very accommodating. Any deficiencies are made up by the excellence of the staff.

Because I went to school here seven years ago, this is the hotel closest to the train station. I came out and it didn’t take two minutes to walk. This time I came back for honeymoon. Because it’s close to the station, it’s convenient to go anywhere. The rooms are normal and soundproofed. The breakfast is too good. My daughter-in-law likes coffee. Costa’s special breakfast is better than holiday inn, but the room is not as good as the holiday inn in London. Next time I come to Ai Village, I will stay here again. Recommend BTW The second one is the Chinese restaurant we used to eat. The third one next is my student dormitory, not far from the hotel, and finally put a photo of my alma mater to miss cu next time.

Lovely place to stay, wonderful views as it is up a hill. Free parking, brilliant breakfast, all you can eat and drink with FIVE different types of milk for your cereal or coffee! We had three student rooms, all with a double bed and en-suite shower room. I think these are student rooms in a corridor and are designed for one person but they suited us 5 fine. We had a fridge in our room, not sure if they are in all accommodation. Lovely grounds to stroll around. You might have to drive around to find a parking space so it may not be close to the rooms. It is a hilly site with about 20 minute walk into town but there are busses about. We saw two lounges, one with a snooker table and the other with boxed games available, both had lovely views across the valley. A Weatherspoons very close if you want to eat dinner or have a beer

This trip fulfilled all my requirements including business, socialising with friends and excellent rest and sleep. The reception, restaurant, lift, corridors and my room/bathroom were superbly clean. I had access to all the facilities that I required. The various availability for breakfast was plentiful and varied. Everything worked, my room lights, tv, shower, key card etc. My room was completely quiet, dark and very comfortable. The staff were friendly. Being used to the likes of other budget hotel chains when on business trips I was looking forward to my stay however feel let down given the prestigious reputation of the Mercure brand. The hotel building itself is beautiful and the room was modern in decor, however unfortunately the building fabric had not been modernised leading to an uncomfortable night. The room was very warm with a single window that only opened slightly and no air conditioning/fan provided. Even on a cold September night the room was uncomfortably warm into the early hours. My room was positioned opposite what seemed to be the kitchen/some sort of generator/heater which kicked in at 6am in the morning waking me up as the window had to remain open to keep the room cool. The range of breakfast was good (cooked breakfast, pastries, cereals, continental), but sadly the quality was quite poor. Despite being the first person at 8am on a Sunday the food was cold overall and the sausages and bacon were very tough and leathery. The staff on every interaction were helpful and polite, especially the receptionist when checking in. Overall a disappointing stay and sadly not the first poor experience at an Accor hotel.

Not stayed in the actual hotel, only visited the pub/restaurant. Been a couple of times in the last few weeks and will gladly go again. Make sure you stop at the ticket machine in the carpark (round the back) and PROMPTLY put your money in and get your two tickets (windscreen ticket and refund voucher). A Parking Eye notice says you only get five minutes to buy your ticket otherwise you become liable to get hit by the cameras that watch you come and go. Anyway - the pub/restaaurant is fine. It's not posh but the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is beautifully cooked. Again I say, not posh arty-farty stuff ... but tasty and generous dishes at reasonable prices. Recommended.

I was very impressed by this hotel. It has a good location if you travel by car or rail. Even though it overlooks a major road intersection there was no noise in the bedroom. The bed room was quite large and the air conditioning was very effective and quiet. The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. It was very clean throughout. The dining area is quite small and there were warnings of some delays in getting a table. I didn’t have any problem when I staid the night after August Bank Holiday.

Behind it is David Church and a small tombstone. It is indeed a bit scary to arrive at night, but I participated in church activities during the day and understood the local culture. I also felt very interesting. I will pass through the cemetery in order to take a shortcut in the next few days.
