TL;DR: I forgot (God knows how) to cancel a 14 days stay at Carolinenhof Hotel. I notified them on the day of my scheduled arrival .I begged them to charge me 2, 3 or 4 nights but they refused and charged me *90% of the entire 14 days stay* - 662€. I had planned a trip to Berlin to meet a dear friend who now lives in Central America. We didn't know if his apartment will be big enough for the two of us, so I booked 2 hotels on Expedia. When he got his place we decided I could stay with him, and I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO CANCEL the hotels. I can’t explain why. I am usually a very responsible person, but this slipped out of my mind into a black hole. I realized I have these reservations in berlin on july 10, the day I was supposed to check in. Called Expedia immediately, and they said they would try to help. They talked to the first hotel – which kindly charged me for two nights and that was the end of it. Carolinenhof refused to Expedia’s request made on my behalf so I went there myself. I talked to two executives, who didn’t even bother to introduce themselves to me (no name tags). They told me they simply have to charge this amount and there is no debate about it. They scolded me for being irresponsible and kept explaining I had signed and agreed to this policy and this is it. I practically begged, at that time in tears, to be “fined” for 2, 3 or 4 nights – but not 90% of 14 nights. I told them it is unfair, and that I understand that this 90% cancellation policy makes sense when it comes to a weekend stay, but not two whole weeks (in July). I told them again and again that I made a mistake and fully understand that I should pay for it – but so much money is not fair. I was 2 days late canceling a 14 days stay, not a 4 days stay. If I had canceled only two days before, they wouldn’t charge a cent. When I told them I was a school teacher and can’t afford to give away 662€ for nothing, they said that a school teacher should know better and that I set a bad example to my students. They, of course, didn’t want to hear about the other hotel’s conduct with me. BTW, I asked them if they would apply this policy to a month’s stay and they answered “yes” without hesitating. I also asked If I had stayed here for a week and then tell you my plans have changed and I have to go in 2 days, I’m sure you would have said “thanks you for your stay with us” and not charge me for the entire stay? But they assured me that they would, that if a person has to cut his stay short they charge him for the full time, even with a two days’ notice before leaving, and I think anyone making reservation with them should know this. I was also told that people like me cause hotels financial damage – just the other day some businessmen booked 5 very expensive rooms and didn’t show up, and the hotel didn’t have their credit cards or anything and lost a lot of money. I said that this story makes me all the more frustrated, because I realize now I am paying for those missing bu

Although check in isn't until 1pm, we arrived at the hotel at 11am and were greeted by a friendly receptionist who kindly let us leave our bags at reception for a few hours whilst we went out to find food. The Room  You need 3 keys to access your room; one to get in to the building, one to gain access to the floor that your room is on and one for your actual room. The room was is what you expect for the price in a city hotel. There was a double bedroom (an actual double bed, not the usual 2 single beds pushed together) with large desk, double wardrobe and adjoining bathroom. The bed was quite comfy although only had 1 pillow each which went flat as soon as you put your head on it. There were extra blankets in the wardrobe so I just folded one of those and put it underneath which seemed to do the job for me although the cleaner left me a second pillow after the first night. The wardrobe was an ample size for my husband and I with plenty of hanging space and room to store our suitcases. There were no shelves other than one very small shelf under the built-in bedside tables. The large desk had 2 dining style chairs and a mini fridge, however this didn't seem to be turned on and we couldn't see anywhere to turn it on! A bottle opener, corkscrew and 2 glasses were provided in the room. The bathroom was a good size and equipped with a basic shower, toilet and basin only. We couldn't figure out how to get hot water from the basin but the shower worked fine so it wasn't too much of an issue for us. There is a small drain on the floor of the bathroom which overflows with bubbles when you use shampoo or shower gel. Not a huge issue, just something to be aware of. The room was clean and well kept with cleaners coming round every day. There was an undeniable smell of drains when you walked into our room/bathroom however you only really notice it when you first walk in. For us, it wasn't enough of an issue to complain about. Room Facilities The facilities were pretty basic but fine for a short break. There's no air conditioning but there is a radiator in the room and opening windows. There is a hairdryer supplied in the bathroom.  There's no iron, however you can hire one from reception for a small fee. There is no safe in the room however you can pay for the use of one at reception. Personally, we didn't use it, we just kept everything in our cases and we were fine.   The hotel advertises that it has free WiFi although despite the router being just outside our door, the signal was very intermittent and dropped out every few seconds. The reception WiFi had much better signal. Worth bearing in mind if you plan to use WiFi for work, planning excursions or planning routes. Food & Drink We went Bed and Breakfast which was in the form of a help-yourself buffet which included a selection of cereals, breads, cold meat and cheese. There was also pots of yogurt and some fruit salad. Coffee, fruit tea, green

Despite this hotel being a short drive from the centre of Berlin (tourist spots), the incredibly trendy set up inside and friendly staff throughout makes any taxi fee into town worth my money! Staying here has been so lovely, rooms very tastefully done (basket ball net & squishy max brown ball kept us entertained every morning), clean/well serviced everyday and great view down onto the Main Street from our room (love to people watch!). Our friends stayed in the bigger room and that was also fab if you’re staying for a while maybe go for this option. Benedict downstairs is the best for brekkie toooo, the business’ work hand in hand perfectly.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel and it was very good. It's close to the public transport and the neighbourhood is peaceful and safe. The room was O.K. and clean, the double bed was comfortable. There is a lift, it's very good. The staff is friendly, they help when you need. The buffet breakfast was good and we could find some tasty food.

Because we are two girls to go to Berlin to play, so it is quite important to stay safe. The location of this home is very good, there are subways, supermarkets, commercial streets, and Chinese restaurants (the reviews are quite high, but I did not eat). It can be considered as a quiet place. The hotel is quiet near the hotel. It will go back around 11:00 in the middle of the night. There will be no strange people wandering around. But after a five-minute ten minute walk to the commercial street, curry36 also has a branch there. The hotel looks like it will be after 3 pm, but you can leave your luggage in advance. A credit card guarantee is required before check-in, and if not, a debit card is also available. The English at the front desk is also good. (In addition, the iced peach steam in the lobby is very good) I live like a suite, 59 flat. Is the entrance to the living room? There is a sofa TV or something, going inside is a bed, a wall behind the bed is a table, you can make tea or coffee. The wardrobe is also over there. Overall it feels quite big, there are two bathrooms, the shower and the bathtub are separated in the bathroom. (The only downside is that the bath water is easy to overflow, and the bathroom is a wooden floor. It takes a long time to step on it. It feels a bit uneven.) Breakfast did not eat, so I don't know, the overall is a good hotel, not expensive, the service is not bad.

I have been visiting this hotel now for many years and it never disappoints. Since my visit last year they have modernised the breakfast buffet area which is much more user friendly, the number of staff in that area has also increased meaning items are cleared from tables quickly and efficiently and items replaced in the buffet. The room I had last year has now been refurbished and is really nice to stay in (room 217) The location of the hotel on Uhlandstrasse is ideal for anyone on a vacation in Berlin, the U Bahn is about 6 minutes walk and so are buses. Plenty of restaurants nearby and shopping. I would recommend this hotel, its in an old apartment block which I find is part of it’s charm, staff are always friendly and helpful. I will be back to stay again next year.

This is the second time in three years that I have lived in this hotel. Very close to the subway station. The size of the room is suitable, there is no charge for children's beds. Breakfast is 12 Euros and there is a big supermarket nearby. It is close to the Tagore airport, and the taxi is about 17 euros. Going to Schönefeld Airport is far away. It is very convenient to come from the central railway station. I will choose this hotel next time.

Ok, so you are in a new city to you with some friends, 4 of us in total, you have 5 nights stay and so you do not spend much time indoors. Therefore who needs pampering in a hotel. The apartment is on the fourth floor and on our visit the lift wasn't working, we were advises in advance and given the opportunity to swap dates at no cost. We did not take this offer up, but we had no problem with that. 20 minutes away by bus 109 from Tegel, with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. UBahn minutes away and Zoologiser Garten station just a bit further. I can't think of a better location, host was friendly and apartment clean and had all functioning services, if basic furnishings. If you just want to dump bags, sleep and explore this is perfect and would cover a wet morning adequately. Not for folk who need to be looked after and I would not recommend to persons with limited mobility, but otherwise go for it!

Tiergarten
Breakfast is okay, but it is still more monotonous than the domestic hotel. The location is very good, the entrance is the Potsdamer Platz, there is also a subway station, the Brandenburg Gate, the Parliament Building, the Berlin Shopping Center are very close, and there is a Mobai at the door, very convenient. There are also other companies sharing bicycles with children's seats, but the QR code can't be scanned. I don't know how to use them, but the hotel has a bicycle with a child seat for rent, 30 euros a day, 15 euros a day. To the northwest of the hotel is a large Tiergarten park, which is in a good environment with trees, grass and water.

Stayed here back in December last year, for a long weekend for the christmas markets before all the covid stuff had kicked off. We had hoped to return this year but due to the ongoing pandemic, its probably going to be 2022 now. The hotel is located in the East of the city. We flew in Tegel and found it a long , inconvenient journey but our return flight wasout of SXF which was much more convenient so the hotel will be pretty convenient for the new Berlin airport which opens soon. The lobby was spacious, trendy and contemporary as were the guest rooms. Our room was quiet though 2 of the lads we were travelling with had rooms overlooking a trainline, so request rooms away from trains. Beds were exceptionally comfortable and we slept well . Everything felt very clean. We booked a hotel with spa facilities so had been expecting an indoor pool! disappointed that there was not one in the hotel however they did have a really relaxing spa area that had a hot whirlpool aswell as the usual saunas , so that was a nice way to chill out in the evenings after a long, cold day in Berlin! Please note however, its strictly trunks off. You have to use the area completely naked , which they say is for hygiene reasons. Although this was a little out of my comfort zone it did not detract us from enjoying the facility, I felt more embarrassed about my friends who i was travelling with having to see me naked though since we were sharing rooms we all owned up to sleeping naked anyway which no longer made it a big deal but for some guests particularly ladies it might be out of your comfort zone, so just making you aware, as its a mixed sex facility though was mainly men the two occasions that we used it which made it a little less awkward!. Breakfast was an extensive buffet which is free and had a great selection of hot and cold food that we thought was above average for a hotel buffet. Its very accesible for getting into alexanderplatz on the tram. Berlin is one of our favorate European cities, its cool, quirky and there is so much to see and do at anytime of the year. This is a great hotel and we look forward to another long weekend once all this horrible covid stuff is over. Staying safe and positive for now because we know that one day we will travel again!!!

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on a city break. The hotel itself was ok, it was clean it was functional without being anything special. It was a little dull is how I would describe it without anything being really wrong. The staff were fine without being friendly. The lobby is poorly planned and the staff are locked away being big columns which are terribly placed. Two criticisms, one was that the lift was out of order and hence left one lift to cater for 4 floors and during Covid times the lift was always busy and long waits were standard. The second was that the bathroom had a glass panel from the room which let light in but overlooked the toilet and I thought it a little inappropriate that someone in the room could easily watch you doing a number 2 the other side of the glass. Not ideal. For these two reasons I gave it a 3 out of 5. Poorly designed. But the location was 10/10. 100m from Checkpoint Charlie and the Topography of Terrors. Lovely pub opposite side of the road.

Our room on the 13th floor was standard category. Spartan in decor, purely functional in layout, the room was clean, the tv worked and it had a minibar plus good view . No tea or coffee making facilities but that might just be a Radisson feature. However, when I needed help in checking in on line for a flight home, the wonderful lady at the Customer Relations desk was just amazing. I never established her name, but think her surname was 'Williti'. She is absolutely a gem and patiently managed to get us check-in with EasyJet, and printed out our boarding cards. Thank you so much. My wife and I were then treated to a trip to the 37th floor to enjoy the magnificent views. It was a very kind gesture and one we won't forget. I hope Radisson Alexanderplatz management appreciate they have a star on their team.

We had a lovely stay. The rooms were stylish and very clean and quiet. The only thing missing was a tea/coffee making facility. We were impressed with the environmentally sensitive touches. We were happy to pass on the room service each day and were rewarded with a drink voucher each day. We used these for a delicious hot chocolate at bedtime on our last night. The breakfast selection was varied and of good quality. So much choice you couldn't fail to find things you wanted and there were plenty of healthy options. Our favourite was the automatic pancake maker. Gluten free options are available. There were plenty of tables and the restauraunt staff are helpful, friendly and efficient. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful. We purchased our travel day ticket each day from the reception (validate it as you get on the tram each day). The hotel is well located to access the transport system and we used the trams, underground, rural train system and buses using our ticket. We would definitely stay again. The only reason we are not awarding 5 stars is the lack of tea/ coffee making facilities. Thank you for making our time so enjoyable.

The Riu Plaza is a 4-star place owned by the Spanish Riu chain, obviously aimed primarily at business and conference people. But it's a good place to stay for holidaymakers too. - Very well located in Schöneberg, 150 metres from Wittenbergplatz (and a little further to Nollendorfplatz in the other direction), so pretty easy access on the U-bahn to almost everywhere, and only 1 stop from Zoo Garden terminal for airport buses. - large, airy rooms, with good views (we were on 16th floor), comfortable bed, excellent and spacious shower and good bathroom in general, fast lifts - a good bar, with friendly bar and wait staff, and not overpriced, just off the reception desk area - generally friendly and efficient front desk staff (but see further on) - not expensive, at least in winter; we paid only just over 100 euros a night, which is good value Its flaws are minimal, but...: - Breakfast is too expensive. Sure, it has all the usual breakfast buffet stuff, but it significantly adds to the cost of the holiday to cough up 19 euros pp each day (we stayed 4 nights). Having just come from an excellent central hotel in Lisbon, where we had an excellent breakfast for 12 euros pp each morning, it seemed excessive, so we settled for a nearby cafe each day. - Make sure you put the 'do not disturb' sign on your door each day if you don't want to get up early. The first day we were there, Monday, having arrived in Berlin at half past midnight, we were woken up at 8.45 am by a cleaner banging on the door. Happened again at the same time a couple of days later when we forgot to put the sign out. Sorry, when you're staying for 4 days, there's no reason to clean the room that early - and I blame the management, not the cleaners, who just do what they're told. - Some of the staff are a little slapdash. E.g., the kettle in our room had been ruined by an idiot previous occupant trying to use it as a coffee perculator, so there was a baked-on layer of coffee on the bottom of it. On our way out the next morning, we took it down to the front desk - the guy there actually asked us to take it back up to our room on the 16th floor, and assured us it would be replaced by the cleaners. When we returned from sightseeing 6 hours later, guess what - the ruined kettle was still there in our room. Fail! I know this is a 1st-world problem, but the original front desk guy should have just taken the kettle and organised to get it replaced. When we took it down again, this time the woman on the front desk took it from us, and a short time later a new kettle was in our room. I don't want to criticise the place too much, as it was pretty good overall and we'd stay there again. But it felt a little impersonal, and while most of the staff were excellent, some were not well-trained or motivated enough to deal properly with issues, relatively minor though our's were. Thus, it gets 4 stars, not 5.
