This hotel is located near the old town of Friborg. It is the most picturesque pretty town I’ve seen in a while. The hotel is a quaint looking older building (which is very unique). It’s certainly not a 5 star luxury hotel but I was grateful for the unique experience of staying In this beautiful little town. It felt as if I was in another time Pre world war. The room was compact but that’s to be expected in countries like Switzerland. The decor was more modern than the outside facade. Neutral Soothing tones. Very Comfortable beds, nice linen and towels. No air conditioning but the windows do open which is nice (except if you are facing the front where there can be a lot of local traffic). Didn’t hear the church bells too often as others have mentioned. The windows are double glazed I believe, so if they are closed there’s not much noise disturbance. Maybe Recommend getting a room facing the back of the property. No views but quieter. The rooms facing the front don’t have spectacular views either but do face the town which I thought was nice except for the loud people walking past and the local hoons driving past. Bathroom was compact but sufficient. Good shower pressure. The one Negative I found was, the bathtub. The shower is in the bathtub which was quite high off the ground and I was petrified I was going to slip and have a fall getting in and out. Quite scary. Didn’t like that at all. And I’m not an old person. Transport around the hotel is excellent with buses that stop close to the front of the hotel that are 5 minute ride to Friborg train station which takes you to anywhere in Switzerland. Or you can take a mice 15 minute walk to the station too.

Quite a nice hotel, but old fashioned. How many hotels have room keys on huge heavy fobs nowadays? Also you have to insert the key into a slot in the wall in your room to get the power working. Other problem is the plug sockets, which are all the ancient Swiss style with the recessed triangular slot for which you need an adapter with a long two pin fitting, otherwise nothing works. I've spent many business trips in Switzerland before an never had this problem when trying to keep a laptop and a phone charged. The helpful guy at reception lent me an adapter, but unfortunately even that didn't work unless you pushed and held it into the socket. Very helpful reception team, bed comfortable and shower was fine. Breakfast ok, standard continental. Just a bit surprised to find a white IKEA shelving unit in the room with a curtain over it for a wardrobe. For a 4 star hotel I'd expect something better.

For an overnight stay in Fribourg I chose Hotel Alpha and it definitely was very good value for money. From Fribourg train station it is a 10-minute walk to the hotel, which is located on a quiet street. Just don’t be put off by the building that reminds me of something from the 70s. The greatest asset is the staff, both at reception and during breakfast - smiling, friendly and very helpful. This is genuine hospitality. I chose the most basic room - a standard single room - and therefore did not have many expectations. The room was small - as in most hotels in Fribourg - but quite ok for one night, and spotlessly clean. Bed was comfortable. Strangely, there is a massive pillar in the middle of the room (see picture): disturbing at first, but you quickly get used to it. The breakfast room is bright and airy. The buffet itself was great, both in quantity and quality, and included rösti, homemade marmalade, local cheese. I will remember this hotel for any future stay in Fribourg.

Found this to be a very friendly hotel with extremely helpful staff. As well has having breakfast with room, we also had a chance to taste lunch within the restaurant and it was excellent. There was a wide variety of food available for breakfast and catered for gluten free clients.
