4.67km from Frostings by VeneeI have to join the 15% who rated this place poor or terrible on this site. I also posted this on Yelp. Asbury Park may be in the middle of some type of renaissance, but this hotel looks and feels like a place holder in the event that this town either comes into this century or reverts to its unfortunate history. It is a hollow industrial space that has the vibe that it could be abandoned at a moment’s notice without a significant loss to its investors. The designer is supposedly an Ian Schrager alum who seems to have learned nothing from that affiliation. I say this because the hotel, in general, and the lobby and rooms in particular are minimally and tastelessly appointed, bare-floored echo chambers with no attempt at noise mitigation, decor or comfort. The room furniture is cheesy crap that looks and feels like it was birthed from a malfunctioning 3-D printer. The chairs were basically hammock-like things made of rope and laminated wood that you had to ‘fall into’ or ‘climb out of’, rather than just sit upon. The furniture near the lobby bar looks like surplus from a kindergarten playroom. We sat at the bar on a Saturday night watching a line of 14 people (I’m not kidding) wait for drinks while a lone bartender, with NO help, frantically and clearly unhappily tried to execute cocktails with 4+ ingredients from an extensive drink menu. No servers and no bar back in sight. There were musical acts that played in the 2-story lobby space in the evening, which itself was an acoustic disaster that easily rattled our bedroom on the fifth floor just before midnight. The space was clearly not designed for this purpose. We called the front desk. Not surprisingly, the person at the other end had trouble hearing us because of the volume. We were told there were no other rooms. The staff were pleasant and apologetic. We were comped for that night and moved to the seventh floor the next day. Unfortunately, we encountered the same poor experience in a larger space. On top of that, there was an incessant loud drone of mechanicals (fan or motor) from the rooftop of an adjacent building. We also had the same tacky, ridiculously uncomfortable ‘furniture’, bare floors, etc. in the room. The hotel has its share of 4-5 star ratings, but I’m not sure what these people are using for comparative experiences. For me, never again. Caveat emptor.
