We stayed here for two nights. The room was small but adequate. The location was within walking distance of the downtown area, some the area attractions, and a beautiful large park two blocks away. The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast offered lots of variety.

We stayed here for one night when my son played in a baseball tournament. The hotel is old, but has all the amenities one would need. A plus is the Rituals products in the bathroom. Very nice! Unfortunately, there’s no thermostat in the room to regulate the temperature so it was a little hot during the night. Breakfast was awesome with everything you can imagine to satisfy your tastebuds. Apparently, the hotel comes with its own ghost named Julia. You can read all about her in a pamphlet in the room. Luckily, our room was nowhere close to room 179 and we slept very well at night. :)

And the whole hotel feels very clean and tidy, the dishes are OK, the waiter feels very attentive. Free parking, a full range of breakfasts, like other Scandic hotels.

As a gold member of the Elite chain one can expect high level of service and quality. This hotel lives up to most of that but falters on some levels. Elite in Gävle is indeed a beautiful hotel and located very central in the city. The feeling when getting into the lobby/reception area feels a little off as it feels kind of temporary. There is no real area for guests to sit like there are at many other Elite locations. It feels a little like the reception/lobby in a corridor which leads though the building. The hotel is decorated in a great way though and it feels breathes cosiness and quality. The staff is lovely and very helpful and the rooms are indeed very nice. (although as a gold member I should have been upgraded) The rooms are decorated in bright fresh colours and the beds are indeed amazing not to forget about the out of this world comfortable pillows. Love them!! The bathroom was spacious and clean tiled in some green marble tiles that made it look a little dated but still warm and comfortable. One thing that is really annoying though is that there are no real laughing area for a glass of wine/beer later than 11 PM even on a Saturday. This is rather ridiculous as one might want to sit and relax after a busy working day/night. One feels forced to go out about for a meal or a drink. The bar closes even earlier on normal weekdays (10 PM) and is closed all together on Sundays and as a business traveller with late checkin that leaves a lot to be desired. The bar is not really a cosy place either compared to the quality of the overall decor of the hotel. This could be easy to fix and is overlooked by the tremendously nice bar staff. Another issue is that one cannot even get a glass of wine/beer at the front desk and relax sitting down in the armchairs placed in the reception/lobby corridor. (this can be bought at many other Elite hotels) For a business traveller this is an essential part of the quality needed for this review to get higher. It is still a lovely place and good quality but it is the small things that can make the difference between good and excellent. On the next visit it is the choice that is obvious though as a chain member but one wishes the management learned a bit from the other establishments in the Elite chain. Still warmly recommended but if feels more that it aimed for families than the business professionals that travels to the area.

The location is near central train station of Gavle, one can get there on foot, also it is not far from city center. The reception ladies are very nice & friendly, while we check in, we got a map & an instruction for Gavle walking guide, which gives general information about the each sight of the walking route. We stayed at top floor, so the room is a little bit small. The breakfast is OK.

We drove 4+ hours r/t to stay at this hotel’s Superior Extra room, showcased everywhere on the website. We reached out twice before arriving to ensure that the room in question would be available. Despite this, and despite showing up exactly when check-in began, we got an inferior room in the ”newer” building. That said, the room was still pretty comfy, modern and spacious (by Scandic standards...) and the front desk staff were wonderful, very apologetic and SUPER service minded. The covid-19 measures seemed well above average with tasty breakfast boxes, which we really appreciated. Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend booking the Superior Extra room since you may not get what you pay for. I would also not recommend stopping in the designated loading zone outside of the lobby, since a five minute stop there landed me a 900 (!) SEK ticket.

Järnvägshotellet makes you feel welcome as a guest, it has fair prices and the old building is charming. The location close to the railway station is execllern and you will find plenty of restaurants around. The breakfast is great and the room are clean and functuioanl and has al lyou need. Note this is a "hostel" type of place why you share toilet and swower but there ar many of them so you do not need to "stand in line"
