This is a good little hotel, about as central as you can get with pre-bookable parking (a must if you bring a car). The staff were friendly and the room was quiet with a decent bathroom and comfy bed. Pretty basic but everything you need. Lots of good little restaurants a short stroll away too.

Nice not to have constant changing of sheets / towels. But requires a bit of self-sufficiency because the reception isn't always there. Great if you want to provide yourself with breakfast / lunch, but you can always use their bar instead.

I booked an upgraded room with bathroom based on the high ratings. This two-star hotel delivers a lot for its class. It's centrally located, very clean and modern, and we got a quiet room as requested. This is why I'm rating it this highly. Had I known this was a two star hotel I would have passed. Many of the rooms look charming based on pictures, but ours was spartan, with a tiny window not much bigger than a computer screen and a mini-shelf for a desk. The bathroom had decent towels and a hairdryer but little in the way of amenities I've come to count on in a hotel so I don't have to pack them. Internet access is free but it dropped out too often. Unseasonably high temperatures made our top floor room unbearably hot; even a fan would have helped. If you're on a budget and favor economy and convenience over amenities and comfort, this is the place.

Excellent hotel for providing a break while travelling to Spain. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was of a good standard and we enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. Parking for the car in a city was a plus as we are both in our 70s.

I suspect that this is a hotel that Ibis has recently acquired from another operator, and they are still in the process of bringing it into line with normal Ibis standards. The room décor is not in conformity with some of the photos that are displayed on the Accor and Trip Advisor websites. Maybe only some of the rooms have been redecorated, and the process is ongoing. The other possibility is that Accor are using the same photos for multiple Ibis hotels. The internet is not the normal Accor branded Wi-Fi network, you would expect to find in an Accor hotel. Probably, this came with the property and they have to keep using it until the existing contract expires. The network is OK with most websites, including secure sites. However, I was not able to connect to my CCTV cameras at home. In addition, I was not able to connect to my stock brokerage account with Interactive Brokers. If I managed to connect, I found that I got logged off prematurely. Usually I was unable to connect. After entering passwords and security codes I kept getting looped back to the log-in page. Initially I suspected that there was a problem with my broker's website, but when I contacted them, I learned that the hotel's network was using multiple IP addresses with load balancing software. This meant that the IP address was unstable and kept changing. If the IP address changed mid-session, then IBRK's website would automatically log me off. If the IP address changed during a log-in attempt, (which it usually did), then I would have to start all over again. The hotel's internet is therefore totally unsatisfactory for anything that needs a stable high security connection. The underground car park (which costs €9 per day), has some very nasty angles and restricted manoeuvring space. The best area to use, which is least problematic, is directly ahead of you as you go in on floor -1. Do not turn left and park near the elevator unless you have a very small car. If you do, you will find that driving into a bay is not too problematic, but you will have difficulty when you want to reverse out, if another car has parked close to you. You will not be able to steer until your front wheels are clear of the adjacent car, and you will be hitting the wall behind you before this happens. If you try to reverse into the bay to avoid this problem, you will probably need to turn around to do this. In fact there is very little room to manoeuvre, unless the big disabled parking bay happens to be empty. If you choose to drive down to -2, you will experience difficulty re-entering the ramp when you want to come out. Going down is easy, but you cannot re-enter the ramp in one sweep coming back up. Because of these problems it is highly improbable that I will choose this hotel again. I normally use the Mercure, but it was not available for this visit. Accor are opening a new Novotel in St. Etienne on 15/03/19. Maintenance does not appear to be very good. They initially gave me a r

I stayed at this hotel for one night on business in St-Etienne. I must admit that it is difficult to find a good hotel in St-Etienne... this is perhaps one of the better alternatives. But compared to other hotels, it still only gets a 3 out of 5 from me. The staff at check-in was polite, albeit not very enthusiastic. The room was rather bland in style and quality, but clean and had a safe. Night was calm, despite overlooking the free parking. Bedding was average. You could get an iron and small ironing board at the front desk. Location is out of the city center, in front of the local golf course, so rather quiet. Had a drink in the evening on the outside patio. Friendly but a bit chaotic service. Pool was small and exposed to the dining guests. Breakfast was ok. Price was a bit too high for the quality. Overall: average hotel for one night on business of when passing by. I'll keep trying the hotels in the St-Etienne area...

This is a new Novotel which has been open for less than 6 months, at the time of my visit. The rooms are quiet, nicely furnished. The desk is not especially big, but there was another flat surface immediately to the right. If you need more desk space, you can re-position the round table to the left of the desk. The only obstacle is the telephone, which is on a short security tether, and cannot be re-positioned. In addition, this telephone did not appear to work. Normally, you dial 9 to talk to reception, but when I dialled 9 or anything else, nothing happened. I did not report this problem, because if I needed to call reception, it costs zero to use my mobile. This hotel does not have its own restaurant. They do have a "food bar", but the menu, which does contain hot meals, is somewhat restricted. On the other hand, I believe that the menu is available 24/7. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, including a Maitre Kanter. It was a matter of annoyance to me that Novotel does not provide the discount vouchers for Maitre Kanter, whereas the Ibis rouge does. The only other problems I had, relate to the car park. The access doors are controlled by reception. You need to call reception each time you need to pass through an access door. When you drive into the car park, this happens 3 times. There is the door at the vehicle entrance; there is a barrier at the entrance to the hotel's private area and then there is the access door to the elevator lobby. On the way out, the barrier opens automatically, but you still need to call reception twice. It occurs to me that if reception is busy or pre-occupied, there might be a problem. In fact, there was 1 occasion when I had difficulty re-entering the garage at night. The receptionist came down to the garage in person, and explained that his system was not working properly, and he had not been able to open the doors remotely. If you came back to the hotel between 0500h and 0600h, I think there could be a problem, because the night receptionist could be busy setting up the breakfast buffet. My view is that the guest should be provided with the means of self-opening these access doors, either by swiping the hotel key card, or by means of entering a code on a numeric pad. English speaking guests shoud note that the hotel only has 2 englsh news channels. Reception and bar staff cannot be faulted. They performed as expected. Accor needs to do something about its website. In spite of the fact that I have entered my nationality as Irish, (to get pages in englsh and prices in €uros), their website has started an annoying behavior of defaulting prices to GB£. This can happen whenever I do a new search, or edit an existing search. This is presumably being based on my residential address, but it is a damned nuisance. It is not always noticeable, and it can result in prices being 10% higher than expected

During our drive through France we travelled through St Etienne where we stayed at this Kyriad Hotel. It was ok - pleasant welcome from the receptionist and we were very glad to see our room as we had been driving all day. The room was quite small but clean and comfortable. The shower was ok but the towels a little small and thin. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed the evening we were there and so we ventured into the town. There were plenty of cafes to choose from but none of them did food. After a tootle around we managed to find a small cafe which served a good salad and a nice glass of red. I would like to recommend them but they are not on trip advisor. Coffee/Tea was available in the reception area of the hotel at all times. We had breakfast the following day - Continental and very nice with plenty to choose from.
