|1.68km from city centerWe booked a one bedroom apartment. It was agreed in writing by email. On arrival on the agreed date we were told there were no one bedroom apartments available until the next day. So we were given a studio for the night. It was agreed there was no charge for that first night. The next day we went into a one bedroom apartment. It was reasonably OK but nothing in the kitchen actually worked. The cooker didn’t work. A cupboard door fell off. The oven didn’t work and so on. We were given a two ring gas hob as a temporary solution but it took up what little available space we had on the worktop. Despite being promised the cooker would be sorted the next day we were stuck with the “temporary” solution till we left. 13 days before our month was up, we asked to move to a two bedroom apartment. Staff were happy to arrange that but I was asked to pay $700 for the upgrade. I pointed out that $700 was the difference between a one bedroom and two bedroom apartment for the whole month. Surely as there were only 13 days left in our stay it would be fairer to pay, say, $350, instead of a full month’s difference of $700. This was out of the question, apparently. So, I told them we would leave at the end of the month instead of extending it to two months. We picked a two bedroom apartment with a washing machine. Big mistake. Not only did the washing machine not work but neither did both ovens nor the toaster etc. the “washing machine specialist” who came round was a 16 year old girl armed with just a screwdriver. She confirmed the washing machine was faulty - something we already knew. Next day two men came round to fix it. When we got back there was a note to say it had all been sorted. It hadn’t. It was still broken. So we complained again. The following morning, SEVEN people turned up with another washing machine. This one worked but, unfortunately the entire control panel was in Chinese with no English at all. The fridges in our original apartment and this later one had touch screen control panels but they were entirely in Chinese. I discovered they were also counterfeit LG fridges but that’s another story. We were given the temporary gas rings we had in the last apartment as the hobs didn’t work here either. So, when our month was up they were very surprised we were leaving. “What about your second month?” I was asked. Hmmm I thought I’d made it quite clear we weren’t staying when charged $700 for 13 days’ upgrade. So, nice location. But, we won’t be back any time soon.

|0.44km from city centerVery comfortable hotel in a great location. Very close to some nice restaurants and in a walkable area. Rooms were nice and the hotel overall was clean. The hotel itself is big and has a lot of amenities but is dated, however kept well. The breakfast was fantastic with lots of choice and healthy and tasty options. The hotel sells membership to its gym to people who are not guests of the hotel making it very crowded. The staff was very friendly, though at times a bit overbearing in their desire to help, offer you food or be friendly. Staff took care of guests with Marriott status giving upgrades and access to a great lounge with food and free drinks in the early evening. Overall a comfortable place to stay for people doing business in Kampala.

|4.52km from city centerThe hotel facilities and hardware are great! The breakfast is also very rich!
Cons: The balcony of the room is open, it feels unsafe to sleep at night! The most important thing is that the downstairs bar & activities are too loud at night, it's like sleeping on the stereo. Will not live again next time!
The music is extremely loud in the evening till the midnight. Cannot sleep. I will never stay in this hotel.

|0.55km from city centerVery friendly and helpful staff. The security is excellent. The hotel starts on the 3rd floor and goes up. The chef made me a delicious Indian style curry. I will return for a longer stay in the future. This was just a one night stay before I travelled on to Gulu. Julian the security guard arranged a car for me to go to the bus station and also carried my bag down.

|1.64km from city centerWe hosted a 1-day training workshop at the Hotel Africana. The staff were very helpful with the reservation and in setting up our presentation room. The sound system, used by our special guest, was perfect for our needs. We didn't use the air conditioning in the morning, and it was a little stifling, but in the afternoon the room was more comfortable. We also paid for the catered lunch which included a full meal...(I loved the curry goat) and the desserts looked nice, but I was too full! The coffee/tea service provided in our conference room was nicely displayed. We will definitely use Hotel Africana for our workshops in Kampala again.

|1.85km from city centerGreat hotel, beautiful ambience, but the thing that makes this such a phenomenal experience are the amazing and professional behaviour of staff. Everyone is incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice and due to these, my mother and I had an awesome stay. Everything was perfect. Our stay was only supposed to be a 3 nights stay which didn't start great but thanks to Swalik and his care, support, fullfilling my mother and my needs, we decided to stay for another 4 nights. ( This holiday in Uganda was supposed to be split into different hotels for different experiences). As it was a very hot day, 30°C, he immediately brought us a mini fridge in the room, enough tea bags & honey (my mum is a tea lover), it was the little things that were needed and Swalik ensured the clients needs were met. We were suppose to check out on our last day, but we enjoyed our stay so much that we extended it for few more nights. Swalik was always smiling and welcoming us whenever he was at the check in desk or at the hotel entrance duty. He went beyond his time to help us feel comfortable. Patrick was another member of staff who was very helpful and could not stop making sure everything was fine. Samuel, Nicholas and Esther, their managers are such experienced people and both their help and knowledge were amazing. We will miss our chats!! Additionally, the room was immensely clean and spacious. Excellent relaxing place in the balcony area, best house keeping services. Could not fault anything. Thank you Sharon and Barbara for everything. You were wonderful ladies, always happy to see us and fulfilling our needs. The food was excellent. So much variety in the breakfast buffet, up to the point, the chef in charge, Manoj went out of his way to cook what you wanted to eat if you fancied something else. Every morning there was a couple of chef's special dishes but the ”Poha” and the freshly cooked ”Pooris” were out of this World. Manoj, you went above and beyond for us and we are forever thankful for your care and support. Godfrey the chef was amazing too, he went out of his way every morning to ensure we had what we needed and also the type of egg one wanted was cooked to perfection even with a busy restaurant every morning. Jasper in the restaurant was always smiling and welcoming and so caring, always made sure every need was met. He is a credit to the restaurant. Derick, thank you for the lovely coffees you made for me in the mornings. I shall not forget them as I restarted drinking coffee after 15 years! They were delicious. Manoj, you have a fantastic team and a big thank you to you as well for everything. What makes this hotel great is the staff who are extremely friendly, approachable and go out of their way to help no matter what kind of day they have had. In a nutshell they're beyond professional. The whole experience made us feel like we all became a big family. We loved this hotel so much. One of the downside was that this hotel

|1.13km from city centerBackground: Two 90-year-old girls travel to Uganda. Arrived at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. The male boss of the same flight was late, and one day later, the two of us went to Uganda first. 1, the address is particularly difficult to find. Pick up our friend and sent us to find the hotel for a long time. The hotel is on the top of the mountain, but it is impossible to find the way to go. The doorway is not particularly noticeable. I found an hour and ran around on the mountain road. 2, after we check in, the friends who sent us will leave. When we checked in, we lived in a connecting room. I don't know if anyone is next door. At about nine o'clock, we packed up and took a shower and sat down. We placed two 25 kg suitcases and two 11 kg suitcases at the door. Plugged in the safety chain. At this time, the country has had a good time in the early morning. Then we fell asleep. . 3, Uganda at 1:15 am, I was awakened by the sound of people hitting the door. Too tired and too sleepy, flying for a dozen hours from China to Uganda. When I woke up, I thought I was dreaming. Because I opened my eyes and didn't hear people hit the door again. When I close my eyes, I am going to fall asleep. But the feeling of the slamming door is especially true. I can't sleep. Strong support. Listen carefully to the outside. After less than three minutes, I started to hit again. I was so scared that I got up and dressed. Call my colleague. The two girls did not dare to say anything. Listening to the door outside our door, I dare not speak and make a sound. After a while, I went to the door and looked at it. I found that the door lock was opened. The suitcase that I pressed a few pounds was pushed away, and only the safety chain was hung on it. The safety chain is stuck and cannot be pushed. We didn't dare to talk. I don't know if it was time for two girls to be seen during the day. I am afraid that others will know that there is someone in the room, the door will crash and the safety chain will be knocked open. Scared us to call our friends right away. The friend immediately rushed over. I slept in our room at night. My friend's English is not very good. There are not many people who deal with the hotel, so when people come in, they come in the room. We don't dare to let him go out again. I slept in the room at night. We went to the front desk the next morning. In the daytime, I am not afraid of anything. The front desk actually told us that it was a rounds. Check the room at one o'clock in the morning. I saw something inside blocking the door and hitting the door. Fortunately, the safety chain is worn. In a foreign land, I don't want to talk to the hotel. Don't want to cause trouble. Say, don't go to the round again, and then go back to the house silently. Having said that, reminding everyone to go out, the safety chain must be set. You must pay great attention to your expensive star hotel. This place in Uganda is really not suitable for girls. I will never go again in the future. Girls are not safe. The economy is really too backward.

|1.27km from city centerThe hotel is in a strategic location, be sure to ask for the golf course side to avoid noise from traffic. Interior of the rooms is perfect, nice bathtub, warm water, hair dryer and carpet.
The only annoying bit was ordering for food via intercom, Restuarant respondent wasn’t friendly and seemed to struggle with English. I asked to use the wine glasses from the bar but was asked to pay 10,000 for using the wine glasses.
During the COVID curfew time (7pm), you will struggle to access an open supermarket coz it’s CBD area.
I would surely check-in anytime. Price was amazingly low coz I booked online at trip.com

|0.06km from city centerWe arrived here from Jinja in the late afternoon and were directed up tot he 6th floor to check in. We had booked and paid in advance so all we needed was to show the passports and sign a few papers. The gentleman at the front desk carried our bags up to the room for us and showed a few things in the room. We saw him a few more times in our 3 days there and he was always helpful. This place is not a typical tourist hotel. More of a longer stay business hotel. There is no pool and no breakfast. There is a gym on one of the lower floors that you can use and a pretty good restaurants on the first floor. Some of the appliances are dated, but very functional. The bed was really comfortable, second most of the 6 hotels we stayed at on our East African trip. There was no AC and that was not a problem for us as the weather in October was wonderful. The sound proofing in our room was fantastic. Kampala road is located about 100 feet below and is busy day and night with boda bodas and matatus honking 24/7. With the door closed we could not hear it. So, we slept well every night. We spent a lot of time on the balcony, watching the city go by while we were int he room. It offers a nice view of humanity There was also, if you looked to the right on the balcony at 6AM a nice view of the sunrise each morning. This is a great place for what it was. We tend to be on the go and not to need all the amenities of a tourist hotel so this place worked out great for us.

|8.98km from city centerWe have been visiting Red Chilli for several years for a mix of business and pleasure, and were delighted to find it has retained its atmosphere of friendliness and fun post-lockdown, following the easing of travel and other restrictions. We could not have done our work at Butabika Hospital so effectively without the support of Debbie, Anton, Katie and their team of lovely local staff. Nothing was too much trouble, and with improved internet (including in the rooms) we were able to connect with our colleagues across Uganda. And when work was done we had the friendly bar, home-cooked food (the best pizzas we've ever tasted), and a lovely garden and pool, with great views and many birds, to enjoy. The on-site ATM and easier transport links via the new Kampala ring-road also helped. At the end of our project Red Chilli organised a superb and well-priced mini safari for us, which reminded us what a beautiful and varied country this is, with cheerful, welcoming and resilient people and wonderful wildlife. We highly recommend Red Chilli for anyone visiting Uganda with modest means, and who does not require frills, but wants a multi-cultural experience in an authentic setting.

|0.87km from city centerHaving had alight meal, we were ready to go, requested for the bill, after the bill was brought, we requested to confirm which type of payment to make. We were advised that we could pay by credit card, cash or mobile money. We requested to make payment using mobile money and they accepted. The payment number was confirmed and the name of the recipient. It was then that we initiated payment to the said number and payment was made in direct transfer and the waiter was witness to this. Despite having completed the payment with a payment confirmation, we were denied exit with reasons that payment hadn't been received. Gates were forcefully locked by untrained junior staff an act which got us terrified. We spoke to Chinese management who pretended not to know about the Ugandan mobile money payment systems. They started being abusive inclusive of their junior staff. But the payment was clearly showing cash had been transferred to a *MIN FANG*. This happened on 7th March 2020, Saturday evening at around 11:30pm. We believe this was a trick to try get us to make additional payment. It's not until we mentioned that we would put this incident on trip advisor that they opened the gates. It was a terrible experience after a good meal. Be aware of such tricks.

|4.55km from city centerBest restaurant in Uganda. But my word! Bring your ear plugs. The hotel is located perfectly in the city and hidden away from the noise and traffic. They just happen to host 10 events on the same day that go until 11pm in the evening and they are loud. I’m saying that. The staff is sweet and accommodating and remembered us by name. The rooms were decent. However the food was superb. That lemon coriander soup was a highlight of my whole trip for me. Stunning stunning stunning. The hotel itself is well maintained and pretty. What was super special was the fact that we had to leave the hotel at 5:30 and would only be back at 6pm that evening. They made us a snack bag so that we wouldn’t get hungry during the day. That was lovely. Thank you.
