Well, this was a surprise!, I had a room booked for me on a recent trip and as I drove past I must admit I had that sinking feeling, however what a surprise, the hotel was clean and fitted out to a decent standard. The staff at check in where very helpful and the room was surprisingly good, very clean and comfortable if a little dated with its dark wood furniture. The room had plenty of desk room to allow you to work if needed with a great free wifi service. The bathroom was clean with a good supply of hot water in the shower, the shower door was probably the only negative issue I could comment on with a near impossible to stop it from flooding the bathroom. No english TV channels could be found! We enjoyed a pleasant meal from a fairly limited menu, but it did the trick.

I think the best way to do this review is to go day by day... Day 1: Arrived and got room keys. Hotel and rooms were basic but seemed fine. Only one of our three rooms had a working safe. Rooms were quite warm- one in particular was too hot and the AC was not working in any of the rooms. In one of the rooms the door did not close properly- took many tries (slams) to get the lock to catch so I didn't feel safe. Reported these issues to the reception and we were told "Italy is warm", the AC is broken and that the door and safes would be fixed. Also, we found a couple of ants in the bathrooms of two of the rooms but did not report at the time as we had already brought forward issues and didn't feel like we were received well. Day 2: Colleague 1 got no sleep the night before as the room was so hot and she was uncomfortable. Reported issues again to reception and were told the same as the day before. Our trip organiser phoned the hotel and was assured that the issues would be fixed or our rooms would be changed. Came back that evening and was told all was fixed. The door still did not lock, one of the two broken safes still not working and rooms still very hot. Day 3: Trip organiser rang the hotel again and was told AGAIN that the issues would be fixed or we would be moved. Checked in reception that evening and was told that the door did lock- I agreed that it did lock but only after many tries and that I did not feel safe. They finally agreed to change my room. To be fair, they moved me to a bigger/ nicer room which was a nice gesture - the safe in this room also didn't work but the door locked properly so I accepted it. We were told the hot room was now fixed and if it wasn't to let them know and they would move colleague 1's room. Her room was not fixed and was still too hot. I rang downstairs to reception and a lady explained that the AC was not broken and I was misinformed- the AC was not actually on at this time of year and they were not able to turn it on. I told the lady that this was understandable but that this room was hotter than the other two rooms we had and colleague 1 had not slept the past two nights. The lady kept emphasizing that she could not turn on the AC despite me stating that I was asking to change colleague 1's room not turn on the AC in the whole hotel. After a lengthy conversation, a "there is nothing I can do for you" attitude and my refusal to accept anything but the pre-agreed room change, colleague 1 was finally moved to a room on the second floor which was considerably cooler. The lady who coordinated the change in rooms seemed very unhappy with the situation, not even slightly understanding and was quite rude, demanding "What is the issue?" when I had already explained the issue several times to various members of their staff. Again, we found ants on the floor of the bathrooms but after how we were treated so far we still did not report. Day 4: Purposefully did not have any interactions with reception or

Stayed at holiday inn for 6 nights for the reggio conference and the place was packed with people who’s in Reggio for the same purpose. Breakfast selection was small, the dining area reminded me of a cafeteria in a school/factory - very simple, serves the purpose, no aesthetic quality whatsoever. Serves good coffee- ask the staff for a freshly made cuppa, foc! They serve dinner so was quite a good option for tired travelers. Try the salt baked fish - surprisingly good. Price is reasonable too. Room is really simple but still comfortable enough. There’s nothing much nearby except for a few restaurants, supermarket and decathlon. Short taxi ride away from town center if you wish to get out- costs around 11 euros. Staff at front desk will be happy to help you book a cab.

We may have just been staying a cheap night in low season, but it seemed like the Mercury was very good value for money. We stayed in a Superior room on the 6th floor (the difference was maybe €10) and it was modern, clean, comfy and with a great bathroom. The reception staff were helpful, the WiFi was strong, the breakfast was included and also very good. For the €80 we paid it was well worth it. Free parking outside the hotel too (limited spaces available - once full there’s a paid underground car park). FYI - the 5th floor has smoking rooms, so avoid it if you’re a non-smoker.

It is a real pity that I arrived very late and only spent a night at this hotel before departing for work. The location is perfect. The hotel itself seems to be very charming, even romantic. The room is very spacious. The bed could have been better - a bit too hard, even for one who likes it on the harder side. It was also a bit noisy and I could not quite make out whether it was coming from the street or from the corridor. The breakfast was ok - not too little and not too much. Just make sure to boil the eggs, as they are served fresh (something that I realized a bit too late). Nice place!

We enjoyed immersing ourselves into the pace of life in Reggio Emilia using Hotel Posta as our base for a week. The hotel is on the square directly across from the clock tower, so all of the city is just a few minutes walk away. Our room was a little dated, but the bathroom was newly renovated and the wifi worked well. The city was just getting ready for Christmas and our window offered a view of the square and all its activity. The hotel has limited on site parking for 12 euros per day with a reservation. They also offer a city tag for you to place on your dashboard that allows free parking in designated spaces within the historic center. We did this and had no problems with the car. They have very nice common areas and the breakfast buffet was very extensive and good.

I realized on my last visit that I first stayed at the hotel 15 years ago. More than a few visits later the five stars have not improved. They only have gotten better. A recent remodel downstairs has made the dining room much nicer. Nicola and staff always make me feel like I’ve just come home. This family run Hotel operates perfectly. Because of that, it is hard to get a booking. Great breakfast, great location, great people!
