On first look, you may not want to stay there. Just across the station on a very busy bypass in a section of the city that seems a bit seedy. But get inside. Very quiet, clean modern comfortable rooms with plenty of space and everything you may need. Prices are quite reasonable and above all, people are extremely nice and helpful. The young lady that attends breakfast is simply adorable and the front desk is efficient and helpful, they even accepted to lend me a computer for one hour. Super breakfast for 7 €. Only problem : the WiFi in the room did not work. Please fix it.

This is a lot better than one’s initial impression might indicate. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was good - clean and warm. Very comfortable bed. Quiet - I slept like a log. It is just over the road from the station and a ten minute walk from the centre.

This is one of several hotels in Manua owned by the same family and their experience in hostelry shows. Not a chain or a franschise, but a little quirky in layout and design. The place is clean, well-run (easy to check in and out), and maintained at a high level even though the property is older. Our room had excellent airconditioning and windows that closed well to keep out thelight, heat and the noise of an Italian city on a summer evening. There is a locked courtyard where you can park (for a fee) but SUV owners beware, the gate is narrow. Pets accepted, English spoken and a short walk to downtown.

I've spent two nights in this hotel which is located in an excellent position (just across the train station and very close to the historic center). My room, n.138, was spacious with a double bed, it has a huge window (with shutters which made the room dark enough to have a good sleep) and even the bathroom was very spacious. AC was working properly making the room cool (anyway, it was and old AC system and I found annoying not having a remoter to switch it on and off during night - to do that you were oblidge to get up from the bed and reach the wall near the entrance). Overall I had a good sleep and the room was clean, but due to the old furniture and a not focused "attention for details", you had the feeling to stay in a "not well kept" structure (ie. the showers was clean but the old shower-head full of limestone gave you a bad feeling). Be advice not to keep food in this room as the window faces the backyard and during the first night small ants visited my trolley - where some perfectly sealed sandwiches were kept (in the morning the cleaner solved immediatly the issue and the day after I didn't have any problems). Breakfast was quite basic, juice not so fresh, but jams and chocolate spread were really good - even the breakfast and the shabby atmosphere could be improved. 75euro per night was too much in my opinion (even during high season) for a structure that is closer to a two stars hotel then to a three stars one.

The hotel is located on the outskirts of a small town near Mantova in a residential area so keep your expectations very low - nothing to see anywhere near. It caters mostly to commercial travelers, it maybe also useful for tourists as it is located conveniently close to the highway and twenty minutes away from Mantova. Actually, you can see the highway from the rooms at the back of the building but, fortunately, the windows are sound proof so the noise is not a problem. Decent place to stay if you are crossing Italy from Brenner Pass to Tuscany or Rome and you are not in a hurry but not much to write home about otherwise. If you come with a number of electronic devises (mobile, laptop, Kindle, etc.) make sure to charge them before your arrival as the number of available sockets is extremely limited. There is only one by the desk. If you plan to visit Mantova, a hotel in the city is probably much better choice.

Hotel was ok but not sure it honestly deserves to be #1 in Mantova as rated by TripAdvisor. Either the competitor hotels are quite poor or , sad to say, perhaps casa poli stuffs the TripAdvisor good reviews. My experience with a 3 night stay was ok but not great. For a 4 star hotel, much was lacking. Rooms had no bathrobes, no slippers, no hot water kettle, no washcloths, plastic glasses instead of glass (good quality plastic but still plastic), shampoo and bath gel but no conditioner or lotion provided. All things I would expect in a 4 star boutique hotel for $150 a night in a second tier town. (Not to disparage mantova which is a lovely town but doesn’t warrant the hotel rates of Milan or Rome). I thought there were no blackout shades and suffered with sunlight for the first 3 mornings but when straightening the room for checkout I realized there was a tab on the window to pull down a shade. One nice feature is that on checkin someone accompanies you to the room to show you how to use the key. Would be helpful if he also pointed out the blackout curtain and how to use the heat. I could never figure that out either, suffering with either too much cold or heat. I was happy to see a safety box in the room, as virtually all 4 star hotel rooms provide, however the small size of this box was a joke. Couldn’t fit in an iPad let alone a laptop. Barely fit my wallet and jewelry. Why bother, really. Rooms noisy, voices carried from hall. Mini refrigerator provided with their products to sell and an irritating large sign advising guests NOT to put their personal food or drinks in the refrigerator, ,,, really??? Do they think that creates good will? On the plus side: lighting very good, rooms clean and a plug on each side of the bed. Strong wifi. Lastly, some of the staff needs tutoring in how to speak to guests. At breakfast a blond staff member screamed at me in Italian for I don’t know that. When I asked if she spoke English she walked away in a huff. I suggested to another female front desk staff member to post for other guests a great nearly Pizza snack place that other guests might like she told me that Italian guests aren’t interested in snacks, they want full meals. When I suggested it to another front desk staff member she told me she’s not allowed to play favoritism to one restaurant over another. When I pointed out that they hand out a recommendation sheet of area restaurants, she just stared at me. Ok! By the way, the pizza place is called papillon. It is 5 minute walk up via Trieste. Open evenings from 5:30, no lunch. Takeout or eat in. Just ask if u want it heated up. Very high quality, run by a lovely couple. Lots of choices including vegetarian. Stunning and delicious “pizza”. I highly recommend papillon, but unfortunately not Casa Poli at this time. Sorry, I wanted to love it.

We're really happy to have chosen for this stay in Mantova/Mantua. We slept like a rose in the comfortable beds, a lot of choices for breakfast, certainly in Italy, easy to check in (with a code if there is no one present) and most of all a very friendly innkeeper, Stefano! From the 6 Porte Guesthouse you can easily drive a few minutes to the Campo Canoa Parking (where a free shuttle brings you to the city during the working hours) and visit Mantova/Mantua. Don't forget that the historical centre has limited access zones for cars. Really recommend this guesthouse, and Mantova is really worth a visit because of its unique historical look and feel.
