We stayed here before and after our ABC trek. The thing to know is that every room is different (between our friends and us, we had 4 different rooms) with different set-ups, WiFi connection availability, smells, sounds, nice-to-have items (kettle, refrigerator, safe, etc.). The front desk was helpful in accommodating an extended stay and we had fresh bottled water in our rooms every day. However, our biggest issue was the poor WiFi connection in the rooms themselves. You typically have to stand in the hallway to get a good enough connection, and even then, it isn’t great. I would stay here again though and appreciate the kindness of the staff.

It was a Holiday well spent in Kathmandu, Nepal thanks to Sakura Botique Hotel! Although things didn't go as planned, the owner and Mr. Raman were so kind to help me with re arranging itineraries and transportations. Very comfortable and cool staffs to talk to. They made sure I was doing fine all the time, specially Mr. Raman, funny and very hospitable. Nice and clean room they have. Hot showers, great view at the rooftop and delicious food they serve for breakfast. What I like most is that the location is very convenient. Hope to be back soon again. Hotel highly recommended!

Amazing place to stay, especially great for longer visits. The larger apartments are bright and have their own balconies. Each apartment has a small kitchen if you want to cook or even just boil water for tea. The smaller apartments are cozy and comfortable. All have great beds which was important for me with back issues. Located just outside Thamel its a quick walk to anywhere you want to go. Our hosts Raj and Pooja are wonderful people and make sure you have everything you need. Laundry facilities are also available on the rooftop patio. It is everything you could want and more! Best sleep ever!

I have tried hard to erase the memory of having lived in this so-called hotel/guesthouse. Painful as it may be to re-live the experience, it would be remiss on my part to not document to ensure it is, at the very least, read (even if it is not considered) by those seeking budget accommodations in Thamel. The reception staff is generally friendly but, as mentioned by other reviewers, the level of enthusiasm in greeting varies from nationality to nationality. The pricing too is highly fluid depending on how well you can negotiate. Most rooms are ill-maintained by terribly uncouth cleaning staff who, might I add, view each guest as a potential thief waiting to break into another room. I had to change three rooms before settling down in one that stank till kingdom come of weed and cigarette smoke, mixed with dampness, and all sorts of puke-inducing concoctions. No amount of airing through open windows could clear it out. The linen cannot be called linen and I am pretty sure they are not washed after each use. Towels are essentially dirty rags. The bathrooms are in various states of disrepair, not to mention dank, leaking, reeking, stinking, and mostly unventilated. The buckets and mugs foster slimy ecosystems of microorganisms. Hot water is available only during certain short periods. And I hope you never get to see the kitchen because the conditions in which the food is prepared is absolutely appalling. Even if you have to pay a bit more, ‘anywhere else but here’ is the mantra.

Stayed at ShreeSu with a group before heading to Everest. They kept all out clean gear whilst we went hiking for two weeks. Staff were all very welcoming - from the security, to receptionists, cleaners and waitress. Location is fantastic, yet quiet. Rooms were spacious and beds were comfortable. Breakfast was good. The decent shower was welcome too! If I really wanted to be pedantic, I would say the internet isn't that reliable, but this didn't have a negative impact on my stay at all.

Karma Travellers Home is in a central location in Thamel, a short walk to the road where tourists buses depart to Pokhara, Chitwin etc. Karma can arrange airport pick up, which is no more expensive than a taxi, and less hassle after a long journey. The staff were most helpful and always delivered with a smile. There is a tourist booking office on site. There are several restaurants in the area and no problem finding a taxi on nearby streets. The pot plants on the communal balconies add to the relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was basic but nearby are alternatives for breakfast. Some of the rooms would benefit from renovation, my room included. My friend has stayed here many times and her room was in a league above. My room was clean and the shower was powerful, but it was all just a bit tired and grey. However very good value for money in a central location and I would stay again.

This place had everything I needed after a long flight. A safe, comfy bed, hot water, wifi and a TV with international channels. Staff very friendly. Great location in Thamel. Only minus was the lock on my door. Very fiddly. Most certainly a known issue that can be sorted because people who worked next to my room came out and showed me the tricks when they heard me pfaffing around to open my door. Breakfast was good. More catered for the local market but nevertheless an opportunity to try something different. Staff in the dining room were very attentive.

I’m a frequent traveler to Kathmandu for work and usually stay in bland corporate hotels which are frankly blah. A friend suggested I spend a night at the wonderful Hotel Thamel House right in the thick of Thamel. I was a little worried that it would be noisy given its location however the rooms are insulated and very quite. The rooms themselves are tasteful with all amenities you could ask for. Importantly for a corporate traveller the internet was amazing and always worked, unlike in many other more expensive hotels. Finally the staff are warm and very welcoming . They made us feel so right at home after a stressful 9 hour car journey. My only complaint is I wish I could have stayed longer. I’ll be back for sure now I’ve found my new home in Kathmandu!

I live in a deluxe room with a balcony, good health, daily cleaning, air conditioning and hot water are very powerful. The tap water in Nepal is really dirty. I stayed in Nepal for a week and found that this hotel is the most upscale in Kathmandu, but there are still impurities in the tap water. We basically brush the teeth every day. Because the room was not served with breakfast, it was not eaten. There is a Japanese restaurant on the first floor that is famous in the local area.

Very nice hotel located in the centre of the city. Large room, with all the amenities and very comfortable, large bed. Having the room directly next to the reception and by the street meant there was a lot of noise though. The staff was lovely and helpful. The food in the restaurant was very good and diverse - I also loved the restaurant's interior design. The spa treatment I chose (the 2.5h package) was of excellent quality. The only thing that was a bit annoying was that despite adding bills from the restaurant and the spa to my room charge I was still forced to make three separate transactions - which meant paying three separate foreign currency transaction fees. Also, I was informed by the hotel staff member that hotel guests are given 20% discount for spa treatments, which wasn't actually true. It doesn't change the fact that the value of the treatment was still very good and absolutely worth it. It's a perfect hotel for those who want to be in the centre of Kathmandu, however bear in mind that it comes with a lot of noise - so if that's an issue, it might not be the best choice. I wanted to be in a close distance to major touristic places, so I still enjoyed it though.

Stayed here for almost one month in the 10 bed dorm in the 1st floor. Very quiet, unexpected, given the central location in Thamel. Every morning the cleaning team (3 lovely women) would come at 9.30-10 am and change the bedsheets And the pillow cases And the duvet covers, clean the sinks, the shower and the toilets. The restaurant downstairs: a bit pricey, the chicken momos de-li-ciousssssss (I've eaten momos in many places in Thamel during this month and here they maybe have the best ones..) some of the sauce-based food too salty for my taste.. but excellent coffee! People in the restaurant veeeery nice and helping. Good for the days when you wake up and you just feel you don't want to get out of your pijama.. I've met hey a lot of people that were repeating hostel... and surely if I came back yo Kathmandu, this would be my place to stay again..

Hala Madrid !

I come to Nepal several times a year for long durations at a time because I am the founder of an INGO that supports in community development of underprivileged areas. My stay here at Miletone Hotel was the worst stay I have ever had in Nepal. Upon arrival, I did not feel like there was any accommodating or welcoming service. In fact, I felt very judged and unwanted. A few days into my stay, I notified staff that I had jewelry missing from my belongings and had seen it just the day before. I told them in the most polite way and explained that I did not want to accuse anyone. Instead of being apologetic and seeing how they could assist me, they denied any responsibility and wanted to search my hotel room with me in there. One night, I had a business partner come to pick up something from my room and the hotel staff greeted him with resentment and accused it to be ************, extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable for me and my business partner. The hotel staff kept insisting that I pay for my room days before I even checked out and it made me feel as if they didn't think I was going to pay. On my last night, I ordered room service, the Oreo Milkshake that I ordered was HOT and they tried to serve it to me. I sent it back and told them I didn't want it and to please take it off my bill. The staff member then returned with the milkshake in which he just poured some cold milk in, I could taste the melted ice. I sent it back immediately, then they tried to charge me for it. Lastly, we agree on the price of 2300 NPR when I checked. Instead, when I left, they overcharged me and I paid about 3000 NPR per night. I didn't even want to bother wasting any more time and energy with them. They obviously just want money so I'd rather just give it to them and be on my way. I have worked in hotel management and hospitality, the Marriott Ritz-Carlton, when I was in school for University. SERVICE was always our number one priority - especially making guests feel welcomed and comfortable. The hotel beds may be nice here but with HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT, STAFF AND SERVICE, this hotel will never survive. There are hundreds of hotels in Thamel, if not thousands in Kathmandu. People return because on service. GOOD LUCK, TRAIN YOUR STAFF. Oh and by the way, the VP of my organization left one DAY 1 because there were cockroaches in her room. I tried to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt.

I stayed at Bagpackers Lodge for three months June/September 2019. I have stayed at several hotels/hostels during four visits to Nepal totalling over ten months and consider it the best, in a highly competitive market, for a number of reasons :- 1. The staff The proprietor Krishna, his wife, and staff are such genuinely friendly, helpful, and courteous people ready to assist at every opportunity. 2. The facilities Clean, well-maintained, spacious rooms, some with en-suite bathrooms, upgraded since my last visit. Hot water always available. Rooftop restaurant with extensive menu or room service if required. Good, if somewhat basic breakfast options available. Reasonably good Internet/Wifi connections for television/phone/tablets. Good fast, efficient and cheap laundry service. Air/ bus/taxi ticket bookings/Airport service and just about anything else you may need assistance with ! 3. Location Location, location in the heart of Thamel. Restaurants, bars, cafes, trekking and souvenir shops within 50 metre radius. In summary, a great place to stay in Kathmandu ! My name is Les and I approve this message. 🙂

Clean rooms, friendly staff, free bottles of water in rooms and balconies at a very cheap Price. What more can you ask for? We stayed for one night before flying back home and it was perfect . The location meant we were close to our favorite shops and restaraunts and the hotel provided cheap airport drop off. Our flight was very early the next morning which meant we were gonna miss our included breakfast. However the staff were very sweet and let us trade breakfast for a couple of beers instead (needless to say it was a perfect way to end our trip in Nepal sipping on cold beers on our balcony )

Excellent location and a nice oasis right in Thamel. Loved the rooftop pool (could be hard to get a sun lounger but there was always some type of seat available). Decent gym with a great view of the city. Rooms were nice, though I had a bigger room in mind from the photos of the executive room (we did get a balcony though, which was great....they had us in the lower level room at first so be sure you get what you paid for). Very clean (a hard task in such a dusty city). Helpful staff. The breakfast buffet was quite nice, and they had a lovely spot to eat outside. With the service charge and tax, the restaurant/bar in the hotel were a bit steep, but there is so much nearby so easy to go offsite. We weren't super impressed with the spa services. You could hear street noise, so some music would have been a nice touch. I think there are probably better options for a massage with all the choices in Thamel.

Stayed here as part of a G-Adventures trip to Everest Base camp. We were very disappointed. The beds were uncomfortable and the curtains aren't big enough to close against the full windows, nor are they black out, so there is a lot of light coming into the rooms. The first night, we realised when we were in a hurry in the morning (from poor night sleep) that they hadn't provided bathtowels- so we had to shower with hand towels...no water provided, no breakfast (despite advertising breakfast)- clearly this is a deal with G-Adventures, but our last hotel was behind Fiji and a fraction of the price and they provided 2 litres of water and a buffet breakfast. When we came back from our trip- we'd arrived early and our group were told we could check in at 10am, it was 8:45am so we went for breakfast. We hadn't showered for almost 2 weeks and hadn't slept well so were looking forward to showering and having a power nap. We got back at 10:30am and were rudely told we couldn't check in until after 12pm, we explained we were with G-adventures and had been told we could check in at 10am and clearly the rest of the group had checked in (except 3 couples who had wisely booked to spend a night elsewhere) they kept saying we can't- and would have to come back- thankfully our guide sorted it out and after 20mins we were able to check in- but they were only interested in more money. We at least had two towels, although these smelt musty and looked a bit grubby. The room was similar to the first in that there were thin curtains which didn't cover the window and were very thin fabric so didn't block the light out

I lived in Swagat Homestay for three month. Sugat and Roshani (the owners) are the best hosts you can wish for. They are not only hosts as they make you feel like a family member within a short time and would help you with any issue possible even before your arrival. It is the most authentic way to live in Kathmandu if you don't want to waste your time in the tourist crowded areas and rather want to get an insight into the nepalease way of life and culture. Sugat is also the best travel agency and can organise everything you wish for and Roshani is the best cook in Nepal. The location is in a good spot. It is super local, calm but still close enough to all the tourist attractions. The house and the rooms are comfortable and always clean. The high light is the rooftop with a great view. Sometimes you even get a glimpse on the himalayan mountains. I enjoyed every minute with them, all the great conversations and made two great friends that will always have a place in my heart. The hotel door is not big, but the facilities are definitely good in the local area, which is a little better than domestic hotel chains. The location is on the most north-south road of Tamil. It is very easy to find. In fact, it is not too far to walk to the core of Tamil. The bed is very large, the air-conditioning TV safe is available, the bathroom is Mingwei with external windows, there is no fan, the shower is fixed and cannot be removed, and the feature is that there is a separate faucet for washing the toilet next to the toilet. There is a small garden on the top floor of the five-story building, and the scenery is good. There is a yoga hall next to the hotel. The hot music starts to play at six in the morning. The hotel is behind a 999 Chinese restaurant. Absolutely authentic, there is no need to worry about not getting hometown food. The waiter attitude is very good. All locals can speak Chinese to a certain extent. Most of the residents in the shop are Chinese, there are also Taiwanese, and a few Europeans. Breakfast is basically Western food, bread slices, tortillas, fried cauliflower beans, fried potato pieces, bacon, or fried corn with carrots, fried mushrooms, and boiled eggs, coffee, black tea juice. All in all a great stay in Nepal for a few days.

This hotel cannot live! Can't live! Can't live! My fellow partner put 6500 yuan in cash in the suitcase, and the money was stolen after eating breakfast at the restaurant. After the incident, we asked the hotel to investigate strictly, adjust the surveillance video, or call the police, but the hotel did not cooperate, let us know what happened. Since we rushed to Pokhara on the same day, we didn't want to delay all the trips behind this event, and did not continue to pursue it! It is also said here that this hotel is not the first time to steal cash, I saw it in other people's comments.

We stayed in this hotel for four nights when we arrived in Kathmandu, we got put in a family room which was enormous and therefore very cold and dark as it looked directly out onto a building. The room smelt really strongly of paint but with obvious damp in the corners. And the bathroom was okay but needed an update. There is a club next door that plays really loud music until midnight so they provide ear plugs. Half way through the stay we got asked to move rooms as clearly there had been a booking error. So we packed up and went to get our new room key but they said it had been sorted so we wasted our time for no reason. Breakfast was fine and the staff were friendly plus the location is central in Thamel. When we returned to Kathmandu we stayed somewhere much more comfortable for less money.
