We stayed here for two nights as part of our week-long trip to Sri Lanka during early March 2020, just before the COVID-19 crisis would reach its peak in this country. This was a family trip for the four of us and like before each such trip I contacted the GM to check on a few things. My email exchange with GM Manesh Fernando turned out to be quite pleasant. I am Honors Gold and the status was recognized. We were immediately confirmed for a very early check-in (around 6 AM), got upgraded to a corner suite and even had an extra roll-away placed in our room. I was a bit surprised to know that they didn’t have a kids club or the sort, while direct access to the pool side via the bridge was off during our stay. However, with the kind of packed schedule we had during our time there, our kids didn’t miss much. Our corner suite on the 10th floor (#1001) was quite old school which mostly resembled similar Hilton hotel rooms of the early 90s vintage. Not much seemed to have changed, and if this was supposed to be a renovated room we didn’t feel/notice any renovation. The entry hallway led to a living area which then led to an almost similar sized bedroom. The bathroom had a typical tub + shower combo and the plumbing there bore resemblance of a bygone era, where, perhaps the only novelty was the toilet bidet combo, not that uncommon in these parts. The living room had the usual sofa, centre table, chairs, work desk and the suite’s only television. The lighter colour of the furniture did make the room appear spacious. The bed was comfortable enough. What the room, or rather the hotel lacked in character, was compensated by its superb location: right next to the WTC twin towers, in the heart of the Fort district with the Dutch hospital area a few hundred feet away and the Fort railway station a mere 10 minutes walk away. Our corner suite living room on one side had amazing views of this historic hospital area plus the Colombo port and the ocean far in the distance while the other side of the room opened up to the Beira Lake and the stunning Lotus tower. We also had amazing views of the sunrise off the lake. Our welcome amenities included fruits, bite-sized chocolates and later chocolate-coated strawberries with a handwritten letter accompanying them. Indeed they were celebrating a month-long chocolate festival. The housekeeping was reasonably efficient although on some occasions we would be connected to someone who could barely understand our request. The front desk did their job and our check-in and check-out experiences were quite seamless. Plus, I was glad to see all the precautions in place during our time at the hotel, with the Covid-19 pandemic about to hit the country hard in a few days. I was particularly impressed by their F&B options. Being Colombo’s earliest international hotel of three decades, this hotel surely has inherited an excellent F&B tradition and to the hotel’s credit they seemed to have maintained and

We stayed one night at C1 Colombo Fort on our arrival to Sri Lanka and would recommend this hotel for other budget travellers for the central location. We had a private room with shared hostel bathroom and our room, though small, was well air conditioned. The women's bathroom was hit or miss depending on the time of day; at times it was immaculately clean but on other occasions it was a bit of a disaster with wet towels on the floor, loose hair all over the showers, or the entire bathroom locked by a single guest who would take it upon themselves to have the entire bathroom area (2 toilets, 2 showers, double sinks) as their personal spa. The service we received was courteous and efficient. Our breakfast was served by an incredibly friendly chef who served made-to-order omelettes for guests. Bottled water can also be purchased at the reception. The Galle Face Green, Dutch Hospital, Colombo train station and Pettah Market are all within walking distance. We enjoyed tea at the t-Lounge by Dilmah, dinner at Ministry of Crab and drinks at Baillie Street Merchants, all within a 5 min walking distance from C1 Colombo Fort. For a budget stay, I would recommend this hotel. However, if able, I would recommend selecting a room with a private bathroom to make your stay more enjoyable.

The grand oriental is indeed like it sounds- interestingly old but still old! Honestly I was completely underwhelmed and a bit scared of Colombo. It was a bit dirtier and more congested than I expected, even having traveled in Asia a lot. The hotel was very nice in a few things: the staff couldn’t have been nicer! Even a little too nice! I received a wake up call I never asked for and I few too many inquiries into my personal life but I really took it as awkward kindness. They were extremely helpful and checked me in quickly and politely even at 1:30am when I arrive from a late flight. They also were very polite at breakfast and whenever I asked for directions or anything someone gave me a map with explanation. The hotels location is very good for seeing things in downtown Colombo and you don’t need a tuktuk. As I got ripped off twice by taking drivers offering outside the hotel, I suggest one walk. The train station is about 15 minutes tops walking. (For Galle buy a ticket at window 4, 180rupees and board the train platform 5). Also just across the street there is an atm, on the same side of the street, up one block is a small grocery with most things you could need. If you leave the hotel around to the right, you take the first right and follow straight until you reach Galle Face Green. This walk is actually pretty nice with pretty buildings heading past the clock tower. I went on a job here one morning and as a woman it was the best area in Colombo I saw for women alone. (Most felt a bit sketch). There isn’t actually anywhere to eat very close to the hotel but if you exit and walk straight past the port authority building you can find a small eatery with really cheap good local food. The hotel is very interesting and massive but I must say more than two nights is too much. I had a double room to share and the bed was two wins pushed together, blankets were old, pillows super hard and the air was either freezing or it was too hot. The worst though was the massive lights that line the corridors. They’re lovely but make the room so bright at night it’s awful. Also if you’re looking to have a view, forget it. Tv didn’t work, hot water was a Luke warm dribble. Didn’t eat any other meals in the hotel but I must say the breakfast is to die for! It’s a super amazing breakfast buffet with absolutely superb Sri Lankan food as well as western dishes and all you could want. Also the view from the harbor room is pretty ok. The breakfast alone makes for a good stay in the hotel.

First of all, the location of the hotel is very convenient. It is only a 10-minute drive from Colombo Bus Terminal and Railway Station. Tuk Tuk only costs 90 rupees, which is about 4 yuan. There are restaurants and coffee bars in the week, which is very convenient. Secondly, the hotel's security and hygiene are also great, and the staff are warm and welcoming. Service attitude is good. Although I only lived for one day, I will definitely choose this place when I go to Colombo later.

A friend of mine brought me to the Steuart for lunch. We were welcomed warmly when we entered and shown to our table. The ambiance was really cool and beautiful, there was tasteful music in the background at the perfect volume to be enjoyed but not loud enough to interfere with good conversation. The meal portions were larger than expected and tasty. Dessert was AMAZING so be sure to save a some room, it's worth it. I was told they change their menu every 6 months or so to keep things new and fresh. I'll definitely be coming back, bringing more friends with me and having dessert!

I loved my stay at Galadari Hotel. However must mention, I was traveling on my own and booked a NON SMOKING room with a double bed. When I went to the reception, I was told that they can only give a a SMOKERS ROOM, or I could get a room with 2 single beds. Telling your non smoking guest that you will put them in a smokers room is an insult as they smell bad and a non smokers can’t handle it. That was the worst service I have ever experienced at any hotel during check in. First impression was ruined by this arrogant staff member who was quite condescending, perhaps some training would help. However, another person quickly advised that they can get me the correct room. Staff at Bell desk and rest of the front office are fantastic and house keeping and room service are absolutely perfect. The best feature for me was the inbuilt hair dryer next to the mirror in the bathroom. Room was extremely clean and the location is perfect. View from my room was amazing. Yes this hotel needs some refurbishment and seems a little dated but they charge accordingly and it’s the best value for money.

The building was decorated for christmas which made it even more beautiful. Hotel room is spacious, clean and beautiful. Bed is comfy as well. The Bvlgari toiletries are a nice touch. Breakfast selection is vast and tasty. Truly a 5 star experience. The only grouse that it was rather noisy at night as the hotel was hosting a wedding. Perhaps more sound proofing will be required.

The front desk and staff were generally kind. However, unlike Japanese hotels, the amenities did not have a toothbrush or shaving, and there were no slippers in the room, so Japanese travelers should be careful. We used it because we took it on board. Then, what happened on the day I forgot the chip was not clear whether it was intentional or forgotten, but the desk lamp had fallen down and there was no bath towel. There were many kinds of buffet for breakfast and it was delicious. However, when I asked for coffee, I was surprised to get a cup that seems to be unused from another table and follow me. I didn't use the other restaurants in the hotel, so I don't know, but there was no supermarket or snack shop nearby so I booked breakfast and was right. I've tried walking around the neighborhood, but it's better to think that walking on foot is impossible because of the large amount of cars, the narrow sidewalks and the poor air quality.

A hotel with no success, especially in a bustling area, with a shopping mall and many Chinese people coming and going. But the service was good and the security was in place. Breakfast is relatively western style, not many varieties, but the quality of food is still guaranteed. We just happened to be here for New Year's Eve to welcome the Chinese New Year. The waiter needed a Chinese red envelope. The waiter tried to buy it for us, sent it, and tipped her. Thank you so much for being a very friendly and caring country and making a good impression. On the first day of the year, there is a lion dance and firecrackers.

As per location, it resembles a mix views. In one side it is near to many important spots and malls of sri lanka at such low price with good quality. But it is situated in the middle of a market area. Staffs were average, rooms were spacious. But the AC in my room was creating sound which was too irritating but we did not complaint as it waa just for one night. But i will surely recommend this hotel as this provided a good service according to the money. Value for money is quite high.

My husband and I stayed here for one night while traveling through Colombo. We landed late at 10:30PM and the hotel was very nice to accommodate our late check in. The staff at reception was very nice and extremely friendly. They were eager to help us with everything that we needed. The room was spacious and clean and even had a balcony with a view of the city. The bathroom was quite decent as well. I’d definitely recommend staying here while in Colombo. It’s in a good location with many restaurants around. Contrary to the previous reviews, I thought the staff was great and the rooms were pretty clean.

As the hotel restaurant had been bombed last April,2019, the services area has not been resumed yet so It is troublesome for the breakfast to the Courtyard with the limited space and not big variety of foods as before. I did try to have one Sri-Lanka dinner in the outside of the Courtyard in open area, It served local cousins with small scale of foods but did have some local traditional music playing with the drums. Overall, It is required time to maintain the previous atmosphere and the Travllers as I views that is only 50% as compared to the early 2019. Everything is slow in the moment. Will come back later this year to have a look again.
