I could well understand small space and simplistic design. I could well live with staff not speaking English. All this is fine. What is definately not fine is: Lack of window in the room (and no info about it when booking) Bugs on the walls Dirt Stinky smell Mold on the walls and matress! Broken vending machines Beware! Stay away!

I stayed alone in December last year and it was good so I stayed with my daughter this time. We are satisfied with very wide room. The bath, washbasin and toilet are a bit old, but the interior of the room was new and the atmosphere of the downlight was good. If you want to go to Miyajima, the location is perfect and the ferry landing is right in front of you. Itsukushima Shrine Otorii went for two consecutive days, from the evening of the first day to the light-up and the early morning of the second day. I had breakfast, but I didn't use it because I wanted to go to Miyajima early in the morning, so I don't know the breakfast and the room. I was very happy to have a very nice pottery pottery because my daughter was birthday.

The hotel we usually stay in on Miyajima was fully booked when we made our late reservations for our 2017 autumn trip, but we found space here. We were not disappointed. The husband and wife (?) who run the hotel are sweet and thoughtful. Our room was fine, though we would have preferred their Japanese style room they were all booked. The kotatsu took up a lot of floor space, but it did provide a warm place to sit and relax. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The tokonoma area with the TV and teapot was somewhat crowded into a tight little space. We found the lights governed by a motion detector a bit annoying; they turned on automatically every time we walked by our entrance hall way. They might be useful as a safety feature in the middle of the night, but all they would do would wake up the other person. The private baths were a treat. We are used to gender separate baths, but occasionally find ourselves in a hotel with private baths and we enjoy the novelty of being able to share the bath with each other. The baths are on a first come first served basis, but we never found them occupied when we went to use them during our 3 night stay. The included breakfast snack is just that - a small starter to get you going - croissants, fruit, tea and coffee and a local liqueur offered by the host. The large dining area proved useful for us to make dinner the night our favorite restaurant was closed. We made good use of the microwave to heat items we brought back with us from a quick ferry ride to the main land for supplies. We very much enjoyed our stay here and will return.

This is a lovely, family-run ryokan. When we arrived, we had a hot onsen bath waiting for us. The room was clean and had everything we needed, including some complimentary drinks and a snack. Not luxury, but quality. Had considered staying in a ryokan on Miyajima, but so glad we chose this place. Only 2 more stops on the train, and much more intimate than the more touristy Miyajima. We booked before we knew it had the 2 Michelin stars, but were even more excited to stay here once we found out. The Chef is amazing. Dinner was so so good, but breakfast blew my expectations away. These meals alone made it worth the stay. I recommend staying two nights so you can try both the Japanese and Western breakfast (which still included japanese curry and rice - yum!). Next time we visit Japan, we will make a special trip back here.

It is beyond my expectation. I was looking for ryokan on the way our road trip from Yamaguchi to Shimane. But it turns out to be one of the best ryokan in our trip. Simple, clean ,modern and spacious space of bedroom. I know it is not cheap but it worth for money. Meal are very delicious and innovative. The quality can meet 2 Michelin stars restaurant. Service are excellent. Property quite small which I like because not too crowded. They provide us semi private dining room. What I mentioned about modern is the " oxygen bath" which installed in every room. It is so nice and good for your skin. we can enjoyed onsen with delicate bubble like natural carbonated hot spring in Kirishima. This features of bathtub which I never had in luxury hotel in japan before eventhough modern bathroom in peninsula hotel. They doesn't have public bath in hotel because natural hot spring has been connected to each room. But if you like to use big bath, you can go to opposite building bath house with free of charge. I think it worth to stay in this hotel if you looking for a good quiet place to stay after your day trip to Miyajima or Hiroshima or your road trip from Hiroshima to Iwakuni.

Our stay at Jukeiso was the highlight of our trip. We were picked up at the ferry terminal by Kenji who was wonderful. Check in process was smooth. I asked him to give us the room with the best view and we were not disappointed. He provided us with maps and since we were early they took care of our bags while we wandered the island. We returned to a beautiful room with fabulous views, bags in place and table set up with a refreshing drink and hot towels provide by our hostess Doi-San.We had booked our dinner and private onsen schedule already at check in. The dinner was a fantastic and sumptuous 9 course meal, Doi-San took care of all our needs and tried her best to explain what each course consisted of. This is a place meant for relaxing.Walk around comfortably in your Yukata, use the onsen, have fabulous meals provide with so much love and courtesy and leave feeling completed rested and pampered

The staff is very friendly and could speak English well. We didn't book dinner, so they showed us a few options of restaurants around the area, with a map and the time they closed, some restaurants open until 8pm - 11pm. The room is very nice, the futton and pillows were very comfortable. There is a toilet inside the room, for the bath (ofuro) is outside, although you can lock the door while using so it's very private, and it's a great way to relax after a day exploring the area. Before booking this place I checked the reviews and was curious about their meals, as everyone was positive about it. And indeed, we had the breakfast and it was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. They have the option of a continental breakfast if you don't want Japanse style, I had Japanese and my partner had continental, and they were both delicious. It's a bit further from the ferry terminal and the otorii, so if you have big luggage if might be hard to get there. We only stayed for one night and only had a backpack, so it was nice to explore the island during the day and check in to relax afterwards. Check-in starts at 4pm. It's a great idea to spend one night on the island, as we could see the torii gate illuminated at night. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this place if you want a traditional and nice Japanese experience.
