I have been lucky enough to stay in many of the world’s top hotels- averaging over 50 stays a night in Kimptons, Intercontinental, and many others. My wife and I found the Hotel de la Soledad to be a very special experience. I had originally booked just one night, but after arrival, I immediately booked a second night. The incredible attention to detail, the historical beauty and the kind, professional service were all a layer above first class. We also had two dinners in the hotel restaurant that were both delicious authentic regional food with wonderful service. The location of the hotel is perfect. A one minute walk takes you to the heart of the vibrant city, restaurants, shopping, the historic cathedral and the Plaza Armas. Yet, you are far enough away to still have a quiet nights rest. I must also mention how beautifully the hotel is decorated. Fountains, courtyards, lots of green - all highlighted with tasteful colors and lighting. Our many thanks to every staff member from the front gate, to the reception, to the waiters, maids and everyone involved with the hotel. A gem! We will return with haste and deserved anticipation. Wow, where do I start. We planned a night in Morelia last second and a family member recommended this place. They had a great recommendation! It’s a block away from the cathedral area and surrounded by restaurants and bars. The hotel is BEAUTIFUL! It was an old Spanish house which if I won the lottery this is what I would want my house to look like. The staff is awesome. I would never hesitate to recommend this great hotel.

Great 6 night stay with only a few areas that could be improved. What we loved about this place was the aesthetics of the hotel, it was originally a grand home from the 1600’s, grand size of the rooms, comfortable king size beds, enormous bathrooms with 2 separate sinks, great location in the center of town and the included breakfast. The breakfast is basically a voucher credit for 110 pesos pp towards your meal. Most of the entree’s were either 110 or less and included coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice and a basket of bread with butter and jam. We also loved that they always had fresh flowers in the rooms :) Areas we thought needed improvement were that the rooms, due to the layout of the hotel had very poor natural light, the AC was okay during our stay, but we could see that it may not adequacy cool the room down if the temp was very hot and lastly, and probably the most negative is that there is sewage/damp smell constantly in the bathroom, especially in the toilet area and seems to gets worse when you run the shower :(

We were a family of five and really appreciated this place and the service we received. The location was great, a short walk from the main plaza, which felt safe day and night. Our room was very good, with two big beds and the futon couch, which the staff made up for our son. We had everything we needed, were quite comfortable. The breakfast area was quite pleasant, a welcoming place to begin the day. The fruit was yummy, and the breakfast selections were good too. There seems to be different stories in these reviews....the fruit was included, and so was a selection of egg dishes on the menu. There were other things one could order and pay for, but there were plenty of free options if you didn't want to pay for anything. The service was great. The hotel staff was helpful arranging a taxi for us to the bus station, and with other needs we had here and there. I would recommend this hotel. Oh, be aware that you will pay more than it looks like if you get the bigger room, pay for any "extra" people, and after you add on taxes and such, but it was still a good value, and worth it.

This hotel was so perfect for us, small, cozy, clean and costumer service was beyond excellent. The decor was so traditional and just beautiful. It’s right In the middle of everything, we parked our car in their basement and walked everywhere. The “rude” man that everyone talks about was so kind that brought milk up to our room at 5am. His “rudeness” can easily be mistaken by the old school, dry sense of humor, and if you don’t get it, he won’t explain or laugh. I rapidly got his humor and the man is hilarious. Will recommend this hotel and stay again! Also very reasonable price.

The hotel itself was perfect. The room was very clean, air conditioning worked well. The breakfast was very good. We had omelets, pancakes, coffee, juice, and fruit.. I wish I would have inquired about parking, or the front desk would have asked me where we parked. We came out in the morning to leave for the airport with our rental car window smashed. When we parked the town was bustling with people, and cars parked up and down the block. We left a small carryon bag in the hatchback, that must have enticed someone. Be smart, take public transportation if possible, do not leave anything in a rental car, even a jacket or sweater. Ask if the hotel has a secured parking area.

We found the rooms of this hotel really nice. The design is clean and absent of clutter. It is nicely located close to the "Callejon del Romance" that is the relation with the name. Alley of Romance is full of nice restaurants and it is really pretty. Closeby there is the "Calzada de Fray Antonio" which is a gorgeous 100% pedestrian avenue where people go to take their weedings or Sweet 15 pictures. Close by there is a tea house with a nice garden with all kinds of Teas in an old house. It is also close to the "Arcos" and the "Fuente de Tarascas". Overall is centered between the Arcos and the Francisco I Madero Street. The Plaza is closeby in a nice walk. You do not need to stay in front of the Plaza, this is a better value and more quiet. It is also quiet because all rooms have windows facing the Patio. It is an old-style Spanish Patio with a preserved Orange Tree. You will find that they also make Chocolate in the traditional regional style. It is delicious. I found this place a hidden gem. It is not crowded because it is a "newish" hotel only 18 months old. For a night we had the hotel for ourselves and the service was splendid! One piece of advice: In Mexico leave the warm (right) water running for a while to get warm water in your shower.

From the moment I arrived at the property, i knew ut was going to be a positive experience. Check-in took less than a minute and I was shown to the room. The pictures of the hotel do not capture the true essence of the property. It is something that has to be experienced personally. Everything in the room was fresh and immaculate. Linens were top quality and were replaced each date. The room was very inviting and welcoming. I was there for three days and never turned on the TV because I did not want to disturb the peacefulness. Ate breafast on the terrace. Beautiful setting. After eating, enjoyed just sipping coffee and taking in the view. It was without question, the best experience I have ever had. It will be my choice for any future trips to Morelia.

one of the best stays ever. I visited Morelia for a wedding and decided to stay at Fiesta Inn Altozano. The location is beautiful a few minutes from downtown and cheap 2.00 uber to cool bars and restaurants. The service was exceptional . The front desk staff (Miguel Angel) went above and beyond from the time we checked in to checkout. There was Alba, who is the friendliest and very knowledgeable supervisor or manger who gave us awesome recommendations for bars and resauraunts and places to hang out. I'm not sure if shes in management but she should be. Alba made our trip amazing and I would highly recommend talking to her for any of your travel needs, she made herself available to make sure we had a great experience at Fiesta Inn. I honestly think Alba should be general manager or hotel director because of the way she caters to guests and her expert knowledge of the surrounding areas. We will definitely be back soon !

Enjoyed Juan and his family's warm hospitality. Our room was quiet, the bed was comfortable and I enjoyed breakfast in their bookstore cafe/bar where they hold conversation exchanges every Thursday evening, I also loved their gallery space and the Mexican pottery exhibit. It was within walking distance or our favorite restaurants and Centro Historico. The price was right for our budget. A great place to stay for a night or an extended stay. The staff responded immediately to all our needs. It's a hidden gem in Morelia. ps. Loved that each room was dedicated to a different contemporary artist.

We stayed at the Hotel over Christmas week. Our room was semi-attached to another casita and we shared a patio and a great view. There is a small pool, a spa that we used, a business center which I used constantly, and a restaurant bar. We did not have a car and cabs were easy and the concierge found a great driver who spoke English who took us places. I wish I had one more day to just lie by the pool and enjoy the view during the day. I would recommend it as opposed the the hotels closer to town, Also, at night you have the advantage of coming home by the lighted aqueduct . The only negative is that the hotel down the street can be a little noisy but that could be because of the holiday season. The desk was great and you want to have pesos as they cannot change large amounts of money.

We stayed at Casa Xola for a full week during our first trip to Morelia. Our stay enhanced our experience and it was such a great spot to return to each day after being out on adventures around Morelia. We stayed in the Terrace Room which is right off a shared roof top patio space and shared open air living room and kitchen space. Our room also had it’s own private patio space which we used on occasion as well, but the shared space on the roof top has a beautiful view over the neighboring roof tops and out to the mountains in the back ground that is wonderful. Lots of flowers and hummingbirds not to mention a cat now and then or a short visit from Maki her sweet small dog. The whole space that Arleigh has created is relaxing and beautiful. She gave us some great recommendations, and we had enjoyable conversations at the breakfast she graciously provided each day. I highly recommend Casa Xola if you are looking for something unique and special for your stay in Morelia. We will be back!

Very happy with my decision to stay at the Best Western Gran Morelia. The hotel and its team exceeded my expectations. I had a great room (the hotel honored my request for a room in a quiet part of the hotel), the room and hotel were spotless, and the wifi worked great, The hotel is in a good location in a park next to the convention center with a small shopping mall across the street. We were hastily looking for hotels in a busy festive weekend in Morelia (el grito de independencia) since we had to checked out from por original hotel (turns out it was super noisy, messy and with questionable conditions) and so this place appeared from heaven! Great reception; trained, client-oriented workers eager to help. Fantastic entry, halls and rooms. Elegant decoration and wide spaces. Beds were incredibly comfortable (I struggle to get out of bed, I was very relaxed) Everything was shiny clean and quiet, this last part is a must when you spend all day touristing. Restaurant was delicious and attentive staff was there all the time. I just had breakfast but the lunch menu looked very tasty as well. No complaints, honestly I am pleasantly surprised; the rates are totally aligned with what you receive. Excellent choice

We stayed here for two nights in December 2018 - two adults and two teenage daughters in a room with two beds. Other family members travelled with us and stayed in another room. The hotel building is modern and the room itself was clean and well maintained. The hotel is located on the outskirts of town, about a five- to ten-minute drive to the historic centre. Around the hotel there are plenty of shops and restaurants. Although our room on the second floor was facing the street (one of Morelia's main avenues), we heard no noise when the window was closed. There are many things that the hotel management can do to lift this hotel's ranking. 1. The hotel is not easily to find from the street. There is a sign on the top of the building, which is ok if you're arriving by helicopter, but there is no signage at street level with the name of the hotel. This is quite strange. Look for the 'Bife 140' sign (Bife 140 is the Argentinian restaurant at the hotel). 2. When we arrived at 2:30pm, our two rooms were not ready - fair enough given that the official check-in time was 3:00pm. One room became available at 3:00pm, while the other members of our group had to wait until 3:30pm for their room. That is not good enough. Also, the staff at the reception did not bother to ask us to do the paperwork while waiting, to speed things up, until we suggested. 3. The reception area, which also serves as the breakfast area, was cold on a winter morning. It was a bit off-putting to see the reception staff and one of the women serving at the restaurant wearing thick coats and a scarf. Can't they afford heating or an electric door instead of leaving the front door open? We did not eat breakfast at the hotel for that reason, ie too cold. 4. The room had a smart TV that had Netflix, Youtube, Spotify etc. When we first tried it, we could not get Netflix to work. We asked and apparently you have to first connect the TV to the Internet, but there were absolutely no instructions in the room about how to do that. On the second night we connected but then we couldn't get Netflix etc. They told us that their wireless Internet was overloaded and that there would be no Netflix for the rest of the evening. 5. The wifi in our room (for our devices) worked brilliantly if we were lying on the bed, but on the other side of the room it was extremely slow. Therefore, I would not rate the wifi highly. 6. For four of us (and they knew that there were four guests in the room), we were given two towels only. 7. One morning we woke to find our two cars blocked in the carpark by two other cars. Fortunately the hotel staff had the keys for one car and were able to move it but then they had to go and find the owner of the other car to get that moved. Luckily we were not in a hurry. They should manage the carpark more carefully. 8. The safe was big enough for an iPad etc but not for a laptop. 9. In the reception area there is a table with a vat

We stayed at the Maja Hotel for our wedding anniversary over the US Labor Day weekend. This was our second stay at the hotel. Once again it was an amazing experience. It is truly one of the best boutique hotels we have experienced around the world. The rooms are luxurious, unique and spacious. The grounds and common places or beautiful, inviting and impeccably maintained. The staff couldn’t be more friendly. Fernanda and Oscar at the front desk were so helpful and will arrange anything you need. We had Pablo take us on a day trip to Patzcuaro, which is a fantastic colonial town ~45 min from Morelia. The location of the Maja Hotel on the slopes above the city is very beautiful as well, with the views and quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of the town below. We had wonderful breakfast and dinner on the patio overlooking the city. The historic center is amazing and within walking distance. We will definitely return to the Maja on our next trip to Morelia. This little hotel seems recently remodeled the room that I stayed in was fantastic, I really like it the hotel was marked as a 2 star but I was curious because is a Holiday inn express and those ones are always 3 stars or 4 but never less, but now I know where it falls on the stars, my recommendation is do not eat the free breakfast, it was probably the worst breakfast I have ever eaten in my life, probably they don’t have a chef (I am sure of that) is like who ever cooks that don’t hace taste, it was the most bitter juice i have ever drink and the most bitter eggs and the most bitter coffee.. just don’t, eat somewhere else and you will stay with good idea about the hotel, all the rest is fantastic even the treat.

No AC, just a ceiling fan which doesn't always work well. Breakfast was included and was very good. Being very close to the square can be good or bad. Good for nearby entertainment but bad for sleeping. There was live music every night and we were there Monday and Tuesday. I can just imagine what it must be like Friday and Saturday. There are also a number of park benches in the pedestrian area of the street beside the hotel where people hang out and chat right outside your room. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs!
