Is there a better place to stay in Avignon? Probably not. We stayed here for a few days in summer while exploring Avignon and the surrounding areas of Provence. What a lovely property. The gardens are lush and quiet with a perfect mix of sun and shade. The pool was a welcome spot for relaxing. The building is a beautiful historic stone building and extremely quiet. Everything about the place is magical but what really sold it was the hospitality of the host, Olivier. He was so nice to us all, giving us ideas on where to eat and what to see in the area. I really feel like we were at home here, and can't wait to come back done day. Je vous remercie pour votre hospitalité, Olivier. J'espère que nous pourrons revenir un jour!!

The room is on the third floor, the stairs are very steep, the luggage can not be moved up, only the luggage can be taken out and moved upstairs, leaving the room is lost in the room! Hotel Garlande is a block off the main street in Avignon and just a block away from Place de l’Horloge. The hotel corresponded with us prior to the trip and offered us an upgraded room and a discounted fee on the breakfast if we took it for both mornings of our stay. We paid the extra 20 euro/night for the upgraded room, but decided we would probably want to grab breakfast while out walking one of the mornings. The room was clean and with the upgrade we got a little sitting room that provided a little bit of extra room. The bathroom was modern and had plenty of room for our toiletries (which can be a challenge in many european hotels). While the exterior is nothing unusual, the interior is well renovated and very clean and neat. The front door is 300 years old and unique. There is no elevator in the hotel. That was not an issue as we were on the 2nd floor, but could be a challenge if you have a hard time with stairs. We would stay at Hotel Garlande again.

True to its name, this really is in the heart of Avignon. An easy (flat) walk from the station takes a bit over 5 minutes. Palais du Papes is less than 10 minutes away, the famous Pont a few minutes further. In the maze of charming streets all around there are several small museums and galleries of interest. However, Couer d’Avignon itself is in a shabby alley. Beggars congregate where it meets the main street, rue de la République, grateful if you give them money (which you can’t do every time you pass). I chose the Appartement République because it had a washing machine and I’m in Europe for 3 months (from Australia). The apartment is compact and pleasantly decked out with Ikea-style furniture. A very good kitchen runs along one wall of the living room, equipped with pretty much everything: decent-sized fridg, hob, microwave, dishwasher, the washing machine and plenty of kitchen and tableware. The bathroom is tiny but adequate apart from a shower curtain that struggles to do its job. The separate toilet is so small that the door has to open outwards and an enormous box housing some sort of fan overhangs the loo itself but there’s still just enough space to do what must be done. I don’t normally bother with curtains, blinds or shutters but this is one apartment that I wish had had window coverings of some sort but there were none at all. The bedroom looks into an a light well with various windows, pipes and an aircon outlet from other areas but is dominated by an enormous skylight that rises up from the restaurant kitchen below. On the nights when the restaurant is open (and for the first two of my three nights it was), this illuminates the bedroom until after 1 am, oddly waking me when the lights were switched off. The living room windows look across the dingy alley to some sort of small offices whose early-morning occupants can see in but were probably polite enough not to look, but you’re still aware that your privacy is not complete. Au Coeur d’Avignon advertises 24 hour service but much of the time this is only available if you phone for it and even then it’s not guaranteed. I’d arranged an early check-in at 2 pm but arrived early about 1.30. The front door was locked and there was no answer to the buzzer. I waited patiently but at 2 pm no one had turned up and I was left standing in 35 degree heat in the grubby alley not knowing if anyone would arrive. The manager roared up on his motorbike about 10 minutes later, without apology and confrontationally insisting he wasn’t late. Not a great welcome. Never have I been told “Enjoy your stay” with such sarcasm. The wifi worked well the first night but the next morning there was none. A pleasant lady preparing breakfast said the wifi was ok downstairs but agreed there was a problem on the 2nd floor in my apartment and I’d have to wait until the manager got up for him to turn it back on. It was reconnected mid-morning. I went to thank the breakfast lady for her

I stayed at the Hotel Boquier while I used Avignon as a base of operations to explore Provence. It is a five minute walk from the train station and about ten minutes from the major attractions and restaurant areas. The rooms would be considered spartan by American standards, but comfortable enough - and quiet. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The extra cost continental breakfast was filling enough for me to skip lunch and really enjoy dinner. Moreover, the modest price makes this hotel a very good value. I would happily stay here again.

We recently spent two nights at Peniche le Hasard -- what a special place! Our room (the captain's quarters) was very spacious, with a great shower, a corner sink, a private toilet, and great views of the Rhone from our two port windows. The breakfasts were exquisite, and one evening, after going to the Saturday market in Arles, we were able to eat our own picnic dinner up on the deck after relaxing for a bit in the super comfy hanging lounge chairs with a glass of rosé. The hosts are not your typical B&B chatty and informative hosts -- in fact we rarely saw them -- but the one that we did interact with was very nice. Maybe French B&B hosts are just more reserved than those in Britain and the US. Anyway, we highly recommend this experience to anyone who plans to stay in the Avignon area. Just be aware that you need to bring all of your luggage out of your car and down the narrow winding stairs into the cabin, even if you don't plan to use all of it. We purposely put everything we'd need for 2 nights into one bag but were warned to bring everything in because one never knows when cars may be broken into. On the whole, a great stay.

My wife and I visited in late September on a last minute decision. We could not have been happier! We were greeted with the kindest, most cooperative and professional couple, Matthew and Caroline, you could imagine. A very clean and completely furnished apartment with very polite and respectful family. Excellent restaurant recommendations, perfect fresh French breakfast, and just a delightful experience with a charming couple. We even had a vineyard tour and wine tasting as Caroline’s family is historically and currently making wine in the Tavel area. Not only can I recommend this home, but we will definitely go back if for nothing else but to see these wonderful people again!!

Very friendly staff. They gave me some supplies from their first aid kit when I arrived as I had fallen in the train station. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable with aircon and a fridge with water. The hotel kept hold of my luggage on the last morning until it was time to leave. Plenty of hand sanitiser for guests to use. There is no lift but only 1 upper floor and the member of staff carried my suitcase for me so it wasn't really a problem. We loved Mas de Capelou! It was only a 10 minute drive to Avignon and Jean Pierre recommended some amazing places to eat in the old city. At first it was tricky figuring out how to get into the parking lot outside the city gate to go to dinner, but after doing it once, the next few times were easy. Parking was a piece of cake at Mas de Capelou and the property is huge and absolutely gorgeous. Our suite (which only cost a little more than a room) was very large and the bathroom was bigger than some of the rooms we stayed in during our France trip. We loved the honor bar by the pool with draft beer, wine, ice cream bars, soft drinks, etc. There were several shaded sitting areas and the pool is nice. The breakfast was quite good with eggs made to order and lots of choices on the buffet. It was so nice to have peace and quiet and luxurious modern conveniences after sightseeing. We found the service to be fine. When we ran out of shower gel, we simply asked for more the next morning at breakfast. No complaints from us!

We stayed at the La Petite Saunerie for two nights. The location is absolutely perfect. It is in the center of the historic district and only a 5 minute walk to the Palace of the Popes. Our room was absolutely gorgeous. The bed was comfortable and the room was spotless. The shower was fantastic. The toilet plumbing was loud and a little random in the timing of the noises it made. Our host was a pleasant french woman who greeted us with a smile. She spoke enough English, so we had no problems communicating. She was kind and attentive during breakfast. She made several excellent suggestions for sight seeing and restaurants. She has a young son that lives with her in the house. For the most part you would hardly know he was there. The common areas were available to guests according to the website, but the I felt like I would have been intruding on a family had I chosen to use the kitchen or the family room. Breakfast was adequate and served in the family dining room. But it was strictly continental. The homemade jams were very good, but if you prefer a savory breakfast this is not the place for you. It truly felt more like eating in a family home than a bed and breakfast. There were a few things that made it clear that some work is needed to understand the needs of travelers and typical bed and breakfasts. First of all we had to ask for toilet paper. The bathroom had only two towels, two bath mats and no wash cloths. There was not soap or toiletries, although the website indicated there were. There was no way available to make a cup of hot tea in the afternoon or evening. The rooms, although beautiful, were pretty bare bones when it came to the needs of travelers. The stairwells were cluttered and full of family life....not a bad thing for a home, but not appropriate for $150/per night accommodations. Finally, most B&B's provide room/bathroom cleaning and replenishing services. Not here. Make your own bed they won't. Hang up your towels...there won't be fresh ones. Overall this is a place with great potential. With a little TLC and attention to detail this home could be a top notch, luxury bed and breakfast. I would love to see this happen as this is a phenomenally beautiful property in an excellent location. In the hands of someone who truly understands international travels it would be stellar. It is currently additional income for a small family. This is not a bad thing, you just need to know before you book a room.

we received a very warm welcome from our hostess Violettte. She spent some times explaining all the main city sights, especially those we would not see on a guided cruise tour. Our room was located on the ground floor at the front, it even had a piano. there was no noise from the street at night. Breakfast was served in a very nice room, decorated with flair and attention to detail. The location is perfect for strolling the streets inside the medieval city walls. The bus station and local train station were within walking distance, ( but not the TPV station, you need a taxi from here). We stayed here for 4 nights before our Rhone river cruise.

Stayed just one night but really enjoyed the stay. Room was small, but clean. No safe or fridge which has annoyed me at other places but so quiet and felt so secure that the safe wasn’t an issue. Main reason for wanting a fridge was to have cold water in the night but hotel very happy to provide carafe of cold water for our water bottles so, again, became a non issue. Pool is large and clean with plenty of sun beds. Outside space is pleasant and bar service provided. Service throughout our stay friendly and cheerful. 10 minutes out of town by car (definitely not walking distance) but own restaurant is good.

Upon arrival, we were very put off by a very rude woman at the front desk. We had a little trouble finding the storage room that she (sort of) pointed towards for our luggage and when we expressed confusion, she treated us like we were stupid. On subsequent days she seemed friendlier, so perhaps she was just having a bad day. The room didn't have any means of making coffee, but no one told us that there was coffee available in the lobby. Would have been nice to know. Our room wouldn't win any beauty contests, but both the room and the bathroom were spacious and the bed was comfortable. The AC unit was VERY noisy, but we didn't complain because a lot of fan noise helps us fall asleep. Most people would probably have a problem with it. The hairdryer was pretty bad. Not much oomph and if you don't hold it just right, it turns itself off. The man on the desk in the evening redeemed our opinion of the staff there. Good price, good location. We enjoyed our stay very much.

First of all we have to comment on the meal - the Auberge is known for its food and did not disappoint. We chose the 48 euro menu as 3 courses plus an amuse bouche is plenty for us. Every part of the meal was stupendously tasty and beautiful to look at eg the baby and stuffed squid starter had crushed violets as a garnish. My husband had duck whilst I had a fish, both served with sides, cannot describe how they were cooked. The chef is Escoffier trained - unbelievable food. The desserts of roasted apricots (mine) and figs (his) were also fabulous. There was an extensive wine list at all prices. Very good value - and a truly memorable experience sitting under the trees listening to the Rhone (20 metres away) and the wind in the trees full of birds and crickets. Breakfast was equally lovely, with selection of fresh fruit, fresh juice, pastries bread and cheese plus excellent coffee. The room (we had room 3) was beautiful, with both a bath and a shower cubicle plus modern fittings, and tiling. Enormous room and bed. Very quiet air con unit so excellent sleep, but if you open the windows you would not believe you are 1 km from the city. Plenty of parking at the restaurant/hotel. We walked into town by a safe minor road alongside the river, but used our car to go visit Nimes and Arles. On the Rhone near to the hotel is moored a cute barge wine bar (Vinotage) - it had a good selection of wine and sometimes jazz playing. Cannot recommend Auberge de la Treille highly enough - it is a superb establishment. The walk into town took us 20 mins max - you are just close to the Pont d'Avignon when you get there.

A small hotel (formally Campanile) now under the Kyriad brand. All rooms have been recently decorated in an individual style – we stayed in one with a jungle theme which was spotlessly clean. Very friendly, enthusiastic and helpful reception. Although out-of town with plenty of free parking, it's only a short walk from the tram terminus and buses so really no need for a car, either to reach the hotel or visit Avignon. There is a restaurant on site, but during the time we stayed the menu was limited to a range of pizzas, all the same there is a good choice of alternative eating places close by. We have no hesitation in recommending this place for a stay. One extra which you will discover if you walk to the tram on a Sunday is the wonderful market, with a good range of north African stalls. This stretches the whole length of the road leading to the tram; no secret but probably not in the tourist brochures.
