Hilton Barra - Rio de Janeiro, promising to pass an quiet relaxing happy New Year in Rio de Janeiro during the pandemic situation. After a long journey arriving very thirsty I was surprised that there was not a bottle of drinking water or any other beverage in the Hotel room. (The times when “welcome” drinks were offered in Brazil’s 5 stars had past long time.) But even in a simple “Pousada” in the Northeast of Brasil were a complimentary bottle of water available daily. Hiltons Front Desk informed friendly that Water is offered in shelfs and refrigerators at the reception for R$ 10,00 a water bottle of 310ml. What ? Well next day, with the hope that things may get better at Breakfast, it was just a big mess. Even with only a small quantity of tables available, Waiter’s and helpers were running around in high speed so that one trying to have a peaceful breakfast could feel as sitting in the corridor of a subway station. After getting a rough answer when appointing that the Orange Juice spender was empty (1 minute to 10 AM when in an impressive hurry everything was just removed), I stopped requesting any. A nice guest couple sitting beside me explained that all older and experienced employees were fired due to Covid arguments, and with this salary costs went down and younger people with no culture or proper training in gastronomy covered the complete operation. Maybe it’s the truth - who knows? Well the next day breakfasts coffee was served in disposable Paper cups with plastic spoon. So never believe things could go worse. Go to Hiltons 5 star - but don’t expect anything so you cannot get disappointed. For all big companies today the Pandemic is the best excuse to downgrade on employees and rip of clients and guests. Let’s see what’s yet to come...

The hotel was clean and efficient for our two night stay in July. The position is great in the Olympic Park area - quiet and seemingly safe. Reception was friendly and welcoming; rooms were comfortable with all necessary facilities, including a good bathroom and shower. Breakfast was OK but perfectly adequate - nothing fancy but good for the price. Just next door is a great pizzeria with a fabulous buffet - very good value for money once we had clambered over the language barrier. In the other direction is a massive supermarket selling everything that you might want to buy for your stay. We would cheerfully stay at the Monza again for any future visits.

Good service, well maintained common areas, clean rooms, The fridge was chock full of options. Menu of the restaurant has many dishes and 15 options for delivery in the room 24 hours. Air conditioning chilling a lot. Comfortable bed, good maintenance, full breakfast and hearty. Its location requires renting a car, but there is a rental car in the hotel itself, but nowadays with UBER I think it's even unnecessary.

The Courtyard by Marriott Barra da Tijuca has well equipped rooms with facilities such as kitchen with boxes, laundry, freezer and dishwasher, a closet and a huge dressing and a very good taste and comfort. Seven days here in that which is a unfair place in Rio certainly conquered me among other qualities for fast and efficient response to all requests, in that period of pandemic where care does not allow us to enjoy all the attractions of the Hotel an efficient room service and washing become an additional need for the guest and only a well equipped and aligned team can save us at these moments. You are very grateful even for your care, care and delicious meals 😋😋.

The hotel is great but the service leaves something to be desired. My room was only cleaned and bed linen and towels were changed only one of the 3 days I was there, and even so at the insistence with the reception. I left early, after a good breakfast, and didn't return until mid-afternoon, and each time I found my room without housekeeping. Another negative point was the service at the restaurant, at dinner, where the waiters had no initiative and needed to be repeatedly reminded of the orders placed. And it's not cheap for so many failures. The photo below was taken on my arrival, I had not used anything yet. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the moments of lack of service.

Positive Great Location, you are relatively close to everything in walking distance. There is a pharmacy next door, as well as a bakery that has outstanding quality. The rooms are clean and spacious. One of the big pros for me is that there are no carpets, which is a big plus. It avoids any unpleasant smells. Negative Unfortunately, there are a lot more negative comments rather than positive ones. My family and I usually stay at the Grand Hyatt, but due to Covid-19, the hotel was temporarily closed. We were left with no other option but to give this hotel a try. I want to emphasize that this hotel has the potential to be a 4 or 5-star hotel if adjustments are made. Nonetheless, this hotel should be a 3 star. On the first day of arrival, we had wifi. However, on the 2 day of our stay, we no longer had wifi. We contacted the reception desk, and the girls in counter said they were having issues with their wifi due to their guest capacity?!?!?!?!?!?! really? This is a hotel that shouldn't even be an issue. We are in 2020 in 2020 even McDonalds has a reliable WIFI however, Windsor Marapendi did not. After a few days the "Partial Wifi" was back up, I mean partial because the wifi was only available in the lobby. Just writing this review baffles me with their lack of proper and basic preparation and administration. Wifi was not available during our entire 9-day stay. We stayed on the 13th floor, and again I repeat no wifi in the room. I had to go down to the lobby so I could log in to my laptop to work. How inconvenient and above all this, not one apology and acknowledgment of their lack of proper planning from the hotel, and they didn't even move a finger to make matters right with this nuisance. There was a lack of responsibility and care from the hotel. All they would say is that they are working on it. The hotel charges for the use of an adapter. It's 50 real. Although it's nothing if you convert it to USD, all hotels allow you to borrow an adapter if needed. Especially one that has no wifi. (forgive me, but I can't get over this wifi issue) Breakfast is free, which is a nice thing (especially for a hotel with no wifi), but it's mediocre, your best off going out for breakfast you will have a much better experience. Blowdryer is obsolete. Suppose you want to dry your hair, good luck. Bring your blowdryer. In my case, I had to go out and buy one during my stay. The Reception desk crew needs a complete revamp on professionalism and Customer Service. If you are trying to be a high-end hotel ( Which this hotel is not), Customer service is everything you guest needs to feel welcomed and feel like their needs is cared for regardless of how little or big their needs are. Windsor Marapendi, you have great potential if the criticism is taken and executed for them not to happen again in the future with other guests. You need major improvement. You should be rated as a 2 star if that. Holiday inn is a 5 star compared to

Hotel with a great location is a great breakfast these are the positives. Negative points: you pay for the stay and parking is not free, pay the amount of R $ 50.00. Point I did not like, in addition to being charged R $ 15.00 at check in as a service fee, I found it unnecessary.

We were given the worst room in the hotel to start with. No window, small double bed… after we complained they moved us to a slightly better room but on the first floor with a window overlooking a car park... There were various issues throughout our stay, such as, the inconvenience of moving rooms, carrying our heavy luggage around. Also, we asked to add one extra day (a 5th day) to our booking. But on the 4th day the key card stopped working because it had not processed through their system that our stay had been extended so we could not get enter our room. So that was another trip downstairs to join the reception queue to try sort it… The breakfast was good, there was a selection of 4 natural fruit juices and the food never ran out and was always fresh. The swimming pool was small and they had a 1 hour slot booking system if you wanted to use it. The pool was crowded; there were people drinking beer in the pool and the water was a bit dirty and too warm. There weren’t enough sun loungers for everyone despite the booking system. They give you beach towels but make sure you know you will be charged if the towel is not returned to them. Checking out was a problem too. Our Uber was almost there to collect us and the hotel staff said they needed to check our room before we could leave, to see if we had consumed anything from the fridge in the room. I paid for the outstanding charges and I told them we hadn’t consumed anything and any issues please call, and I left. She gave me a look as I was leaving as if I was doing something wrong. Finally, I am still waiting for the reimbursement of the deposit I had to pay (500 reais) at check in - it’s now been 3 weeks. While we were there, I heard a couple at reception complaining about their car - the car park at the hotel was apparently full and the owner did not want his car to be parked elsewhere. Oh and lastly: I would say good evening to staff at the front door every time I walked past and NOT ONCE was I greeted in return.

The staff is really helpful and super friendly especially the restaurant staff - Philipe, Andre, Jhonatan and everybody else went the extra mile to help us as we struggled with the language here. Andre at reception was also very helpful but he was there only for 3 days during our stay (8days). But the lady at the reception - Talitha (who speaks English!) left a lot to be desired. Everything you ask her is a straight no in a very cold tone. In her words, "the hotel does not provide courtesy water, we don't give courtesy milk in the rooms (for tea)". Not to boast but - Lady, asking if the hotel provides complimentary water is just a question that needs to be answered, that's it. If I can afford to stay there for 8 nights, I can buy water and milk and other things, no need to be obnoxious!! The strangers who didn't even speak English have been more helpful in Brazil than the person working in the service industry! Anyway, the hotel is nice, everything else is good and it's located right on the Botafogo beach (not a swimming beach). We took an Uber to Copacabana beach, took us less than 5 minutes to get there. Beautiful country, lovely people!👌 Review posted during our stay, checking out tomorrow.

Firstly to start with the positives the hotel has a nice pool area which is rare but it only has 14 sun loungers and there’s 13 floors of rooms in the hotel. Also the birds often relieved themselves over the people sitting there, this is beyond the hotel control I understand but the mess wasn’t cleaned up. From the moment we checked in we noticed the hotel had a overwhelming smell of damp/mould through out. There was evidence of mould spores on pictures in reception and the restaurant (pictures) which I can imagine is very unhealthy to be inhaling . I can only assume mould is what is causing the smell. We tried to ask staff what this was but despite being advised as English speaking hotel it was apparent only very little English was spoken. We initially given a room on the second floor but the smell was so bad we asked to move. We were moved to room 1412 and told it had the best view. We weren’t told it was directly below the restaurant and gym so between 8am and 11pm the constant noise of furniture moving and weights dropping could be heard. The rooms odour was also still really bad, often so bad it would wake you during the night. That’s if the noise didn’t! 1412 when we first walked in had a lot of mosquitoes buzzing around and some black bugs crawling round the bed which my husband sorted as by this point the communication issues had caused enough stress. The hotel advertises sound proof rooms however we were kept awake late and woken early by the neighbouring room, at one point I was woken at 7am after they’d kept us up past midnight with a rendition of Madonna coming through the walls. We rang reception multiple times to be told the would sort it but no one ever came up or rang them (we know because we could hear). Housekeeping was poor often not coming to do your room until 4/5pm and hoovering corridors at 7/8pm. Dirty food plates were often left for 24hrs in corridors and ignored by house keepers (pictures available). Breakfast was good but we noticed staff offering fresh food and coffee to guests but we never were offered in 7 mornings we had breakfast, perhaps we were avoided again due to communication barriers. The air con stopped working on our second to last night and an accumulation of all these things meant we checked out a night early and found somewhere else to stay.

I was cancelled a day before my arrival at the hotel, I was traveling with my two children 1 and 3 years old, the reason for the cancellation was that as I had booked it in advance and had received a good price, But now it cost more and they canceled everything, I had to go to find a hotel with my children in the midnight with the warm and tired of the trip, really must be the worst hotel in Rio de Janeiro, The person who served me by the phone cut me off and treated me very badly, I really hope that no one will go to that hotel.

It's only worth it if you have a really good promotion. We had a problem with a cockroach infestation in a room on the 4th floor, we asked them to solve the problem and they changed us to one that should have been ok. But it still had cigarettes left over from the last guests, which caused a very strong cigarette smell in the room and the TV was not working. They moved us to a third room where the air conditioning was making a lot of noise, but as it was our last day, we decided to stay in that room and not stress anymore about these problems. If it's not at a very good price, I believe the hotels around this one (and several) are more worthwhile. that we were asking big favor to solve all the requested problems.

Booked the best room in this hotel as I wanted a seaview with a balcony which is what we got, seaview and balcony. The room is as it's showed on TA, two rooms, one with a bed and a lounge and the main bedroom with a very comfortable king size bed that leads onto hte sea facing balcony. This should be perfect but as the room is need of major refurb it isn't. The bathroon is in dire need of a refurb. It looks and feels dirty, the grout has been badly patched, the tiles are cracked and stained, the front of the vanity is broken. The french doors leading out to the balcony and the shutters could be beautiful they just need a coat of paint and some way to close them properly. The view from the balcony over the beach is great, would be nice to have some furniture. We were in the middle room on the third floor and it was noisy, not during the day, from around 9pm until the early hours. If you're want a good night's sleep ask for a higher floor. The noise may not be a problem if the doors closed properly. We found the staff to be brilliant, which made the difference for us and rooms were cleaned well each day. Breakfast provided good options, and a coffee machine but the room was always super crowded. If you want a good location but aren't fussed about the quality of the room, then book it but don't think you're getting a bargain. The price reflects what you get.

It was determined by the reviews I did not know what staying anywhere for the first time in Rio. The place is in the downtown area, and the surrounding area is a little dirty and there are concerns about security. There is a big supermarket nearby so you can shop there. Use Uber to move. The hotel itself is new, spacious and easy to use and the staff are very friendly.

I rounded up to 4 stars, but honestly, this is a 3.5 for me. American or non-Brazilian travelers, you may be shocked by this hotel due to its location. It is located in a somewhat rough part of Rio (Centro). Centro is a mixed bag, because it is actually kind of close to a lot of things that you'll probably want to do. However, there are a lot of homeless people, graffiti (welcome to Rio), and somewhat dangerous situations you can put yourself in. So... don't go walking around at night to get some air... seriously, just don't. Never have your phone out or cameras or anything like that in this area. - Value. This hotel is cheap... really cheap. What's good about the hotel: - The executive King suite was HUGE. Absolutely huge. - The room was clean... no issues there. - Modern appointments.. decent looking room, nice mirrors, decent bathroom, etc. - Air Conditioning worked - Black out curtains... which are an absolute must What fell short: - Check in staff late at night was somewhat unfriendly... didn't speak English very well, and seemed offended when I asked him if it was ok if we just spoke Portuguese. Normally, I would never do that, but he couldn't understand my responses in English. - This hotel has PAPER THIN walls. Bring ear plugs... seriously. You can hear everything, haha. - Shower's water temp was a little tricky to adjust.

We were 7 days to escape from the cold of Buenos Aires. I booked it along with a flight for EDreams. The hotel is very well located in a condominium, so it is very safe. We were given a room on floor 13 with a beautiful view. The hotel is very comfortable and very comfortable. The bathroom is good but the site of the shower is a little boy, although the pressure of water is excellent. Breakfast is well and all the staff of the hotel is very friendly and service. We arrived before the check-in time and we went much later than the check-out time. In both of them we were offered the room. There are two shopping malls to walk. Five minutes walking. One to the right and another to the left. The Barra Design Shopping and the Vogue Square. The hotel is located in the centre of the city centre, and the hotel is located in the centre of the city centre. Every half hour on Saturdays and Sundays. Mondays do not operate. The beach is very beautiful. There are restaurants along the beach that enable shadows and rests in exchange for some kind of consumption.

While the front desk staff was overall friendly and the rooftop terrace cute, the wifi in the room (9th floor) and the lobby was terrible. It would come on then disappear constantly. The speed was worse than a snail crawling. The restaurant and bar next to the lobby features a live DJ every night who blasts loudly into 1 or 2am. The sound could be heard from the rooftop. Also, there are two small elevators and one was broken during the last two days of my three-day stay. Lastly, upon checking out in the early morning, one front desk agent told me to get free breakfast in the restaurant. But I was sure that my booking didn't include breakfast. If it did, then the agent checking me in did not inform me. One upside about this hotel is the room size as well as the location. But I'd not stay here again due to the slow wifi and loud music from the restaurant that they own.

The hotel is situated on a main road just a stone's throw away from copacabana beach (approx 5 mins walk). Breakfast is quite basic but unlimited and you get what you pay for - just continental with a lot of cakes! Wifi signal was strong in some places and weaker in some others, I could access it in my friend's rooms and upstairs at breakfast but not in my own room, so that was a little annoying but overall didn't make too much difference to my stay. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, allowing me to use their printer to print off my flight ticket, and the rooms were all super clean. Overall a good hotel, would recommend!

The breakfast buffet was not bad except for the details ( never seen by me in another hotel in Rio de Janeiro ) that if I wanted eggs broken, I should pay them separately. I'm in favour of the friendlyness of the receptionists and Alex the Bell Boy, although they could not satisfy almost any of our demands, including making a late check out that they consulted with one of the managers with negative result. The breakfast is good, it has several options. The kitchen service and restaurant is excellent, the dishes are very good and the team is excellent. The location is good, near the airport and the metro. The rooms in the bottom are quieter. The Golden was the worst experience we had, however, from the National Inn Network, firstly the hot water from the shower was not working, the receptionist said it would come back soon, but only rolled us. The next day he had not yet returned, he was only back at night, the worst thing was that the morning said one thing and the night said another, the situation was not worse because they returned the value of one day. The room is comfortable, but the bathroom is old and poorly careful, and the gas shower is the worst I've ever used.Another problem is parking, which is on the street of the Church of Glory, and a rampa needs to be dropped to reach the building. The last day they did not serve the room, which put me a stick of cal in any future opportunity to search for hotels in the network.

Firstly, be aware it’s not next to the airport. If you have just hand luggage you can walk it in ten minutes by following the big bridge you can see from Departures and it’s at the end of the next again block. But it’s not a salubrious area (homeless people sleeping on the street). I’ve stayed at several Ibis hotels and they are usually good value bricks-and-mortar places but Ibis S.D. Is quite isolated and lacking nearby facilities. The food at the ‘restaurant’ was poor, the ‘buffet’ turning out to be soups and plain, undercooked pasta. (Next door at Novotel I found marginally better but a very long wait for the food.). Zero information from reception on food deliveries or other restaurants (other than ‘try WhatsApp’), zero info on directions other than ‘take a taxi’ when downtown is only 15m walk, buses terminate almost opposite and the excellent modern tram system runs from the airport. It has all the basic facilities, wifi, safe, air-conditioning. One member of reception spoke English and was enthusiastic. It’s not that they don’t try: they just don’t have basic visitor information or recommendations to hand.

Pensioners travel the trams in the city centre free and the metro is free for over 65s ,free or discounted entrance to the museum and botanical gardens. We would definitely stay here again. I booked the Laghetto mainly for the location (beachfront and quieter than Copa etc) and also because I was able to get a room with a balcony which is not offered by many hotels. The price point was reasonable and generally reviews were good. I'm glad I had the balcony although the noise of the sea and road are a factor and at night I'd have the door closed and ac on. The room was a good size and beds were comfortable, to be very critical I'd say the room was a little tired and could do with updating and the furnishings were basic with minimum storage, a desk with a drawer would have been useful and more drawers for clothes, but overall perfectly comfortable and adequate. A highlight would be the buffet breakfast and I would particularly like to thank a fellow guest from Buenos Aries who kindly translated for me at the omelette bar, I was able to get my 3 fried eggs, sunny side up thanks to her! I never thanked her properly and would love to one day maybe, stvtayler(at) The staff were generally very helpful and I would stay again.

I tend to agree with Hugoscott’s review. When the reception is approached with an inquiry the two gentlemen on the desk become loud, aggressive and obnoxious. It’s proximity to the coast line is great. The Metro is so close to the hotel how could you not go for a trip to the City. The fascinating mixture of old and new architecture is something to be experienced, not just the beach culture. Fascinating history, beautiful places to drop in and have a bite to eat or a meal. As we were strolling through the city there was a football match on TV. red and black jumpers of Flamingo v’s Dubai. We started our city travel when the score was 1 to 1. Then Flamingo scores 2 to 1 and the Main Street came alive with almost everyone jumping up and down with arms in the air. It was like we were at a football arena. Goodness, we were pulled in on the celebrations at each bar with a TV. Then we (The Flamingos) made another goal making it 3 to 1. Well!!!!! People went absolutely berserk like the player who shot the goal, people running through the streets and we got caught up in the celebrations. What an amazing experience, that was worth our travel from Australia to South America just to be there and feel the really Brazil culture. When one thinks of Brazil the next word is football. After knowing to ignore the reception you will enjoy it’s location. You will have more success with the lovely locals and people walking their dogs are really helpful with directions. A power adapter to suit the hotel can be bought down the street. They don’t give you a booklet with all the information you need to know when staying. Fortunately the housekeeping and doormen are all really professional. Breakfast service was very well executed, get a coffee down the road. Our next trip we will most definitely book a hotel in the Down Town Centro (cost effective) and commute by Metro to the beaches.

I had the signals needed for the pandemic moment. Parking seemed very small, I don't know if all vehicles were in the maximum lotion. Regular breakfast (as I have seen better, my level of demand has been high).

My husband and I came to Rio for New Years Eve and found this new hotel in the area of Barra da Tijuca. Rates were ok for this time of the year, nothing cheap though (120 euros per night). Let’s start with what worked - which wasn’t much, unfortunately. The hotel is located in a nice area in Rio, inside a mall with many facilities. The gym (outsourced to a company called body tech) was amazing - we got a voucher at the reception to use it. Rooms are spacious and bed comfortable. The common areas of the room are nicely decorated. That’s it pretty much. The service is bad, really bad. From the reception to the room service. Rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis, they forgot to replace towels twice. Dirty cups not removed, ever. They provide two capsules of coffee on the first day but afterwards you have to pay (come on, for a hotel considered to be fashion hotel etc offering a capsule of coffee was the minimum they could do). Same for water. The room is not really functional - not enough hangers, no drawers, no shelves. You can’t put your clothes anywhere pretty much. The pool is small, only two beds. No service available. Not a nice area to relax. About the breakfast. It is ok, average. Nice fresh Brazilian fruits, cakes. Unfortunately you have to pay for a good expresso, otherwise just be happy with a bad filtered coffee. For two days, we had to queue to get a table but maybe is because it was peak season. Regardless they should have a bigger restaurant to accommodate the guests - not an excuse in my opinion. In summary, if you expect a proper service don’t come to this hotel. If you are only looking for a nice location with good restaurants nearby, it is fine.

The hotel was within the airport, but in the almost abandoned T1, as all flights use T2. The walking distance between the terminals was about 10 minutes. As it is in the terminal building, the rooms have no windows. The hotel is all in a single floor and the walk to our room was quite long. The room door didn't seem to insulate noise at all, so we were fortunate to have a room at almost the end of the corridor. The room itself was ok. There was a small breakfast, which was good quality. The front desk spoke excellent English.

The hotel is very close to the Oceanic Garden Metro station and about 10 minutes walk from the beach. It seems to be an old hotel that has been renovated, the corridors still have a carpet. The room is very spacious, with places to put the luggage. The air conditioning is old (type of window) without temperature control. The bed is giant and very good. The bed clothes are good. The bathroom is wide, with a very good shower. The breakfast is good, with the possibility of ordering mesh eggs, it has no natural juice, the breakfast area is not very large, the time of greater movement is missing tables.

Carol at Ramada Hotel Recreio has helped me a lot in booking rooms, answering my questions and being resourceful. She is really professional and caring, and has exceptional customer service skills. She always has a smile on her face and really goes out of her way whenever I requested her help. I think she is the biggest asset Ramada Hotels have here and should be recognized as such.

This was our first time in Brazil and we are so happy with our decision to stay at the Arena Copacabana. The room is very clean and new and the sea side view is wonderful. Also, the breakfast is great and is a must for us as we like to eat big breakfasts with lots of breads and fruit. The best part is the staff that work because they are all so nice and helpful. Even though we don’t speak Portugese, there are employees who speak English and are very informative. At the rooftop bar, Jailton is a wonderful bartender and always has a smile on his face and makes our rooftop dinners very enjoyable! Overall, I would recommend Arena Copacabana to anyone who comes to Rio.

Having stayed in this hotel already before, we were more than disappointed to find out that it is now a totally different hotel! They say they are remodeling a bit but it’s a different building, new entrance, different rooms, and the change is not for the best. If it was an Ibis hotel we would be totally fine with the standards and the amenities, but for a Grand Mercure it is definitely not up to the known Accor standards and really disappointing. As Accor Platinum Member, we had to wait over 1 hour for check-in, no upgrade, no welcome drink, no member benefits at all. The room was probably one of the worst they had, with an incredible nice view to the favelas. The corridors on the floors were smelling humid and moldy, the room was basic. No amenities like water boiler, coffee machine, complimentary water. The whole hotel had the flair of a youth hostel, staff bring always in t-Shirts, improvised “lobby”, no lobby bar, improvised breakfast “restaurant”, which was a conference room without windows and a noise level as in a hostel dining room. Staff was not really helpful, information was not passed on to the following shift, etc… the water tab in the shower was broken and never fixed after signaling it to the receptionists. But the room was clean, that’s a positive aspect nevertheless, and the proximity to Copacabana beach and neighborhood is a positive aspect as well. We would suggest Accor to review the name of this hotel abs make an Ibis out of it, the customers will know what standards to expect.

I would stay here again, if traveling to Rio on a budget. This is not a very fancy hotel, but it is well-organized, quiet, with friendly and helpful staff (thank you, Nathalia!), a wonderful breakfast buffet, and very clean rooms. The cleaning staff were meticulous in tidying my room every day. First floor lobby is quite spacious with lots of natural light, and a large seating area that allows for large group interaction, as well as spots for more private conversation. If you are a person who wants every detail to be new and perfect, this might not be the right place for you, as towels in the room are obviously very worn, and some other details needed repair. For example, the granite counter in the bathroom had accumulated water stains over time. In the past, in my own home I had a granite kitchen counter, and I had the same problem -- this is a problem with granite counters. I looked carefully at the counter in this hotel room, and it was just water stains, not dirty at all. I also noticed two small places where the wallpaper was peeling and needed repair. I just mention this because I know that some people are upset with such imperfections. They did not bother me, because the place was so clean. Also the room design was modern and very nice, with some clever design features, such as a poem about Rio by Jobim on the wallpaper, and suspended bedside lamp. Also I noticed that the blackout curtains work very well. This is because at each end of the blackout curtain is a strip of velcro with snaps, so that you can firmly attach the curtain against the wall to prevent light from coming into the room. This is the first time I've ever seen this -- very clever! Other good features: 110 Volt sockets (surprise!), ample number of electrical sockets in the room, very comfortable bed, consistently good internet connection.

The Marriot is in my opinion in one of the the best locations in Rio. Set right on the beach in Copacabana, what more could you ask for. The service is amazing, the staff are brilliant. I want to practise my Portuguese more but every time I spoke the staff could easily tell I was a foreigner and would talk fluently in English, how ever since my wife is Brazilian she always does most of the talking when we holiday in Brazil. The rooms are great, serviced daily, the roof top area is brilliant with a little gym to suit your holidays needs. The restaurant service is 10 out of 10 however - the only negative we experienced every morning at the buffet breakfast every staff member is so lovely bar one waitress, no matter how polite you are to her, good morning, please, thank you she was so very rude every day Apart from that, one staff member wasn't going to bother our stay - we would come back in a heart beat :)
