A quirky property - and a quirky reception. Two young African lads, only of whom really spoke any English, were the public face of the property whilst we were there although the owner's granddaughter (and possibly her father?) also made a brief appearance. Grandma was asleep in her wheelchair with her back to visitors, in what had been the breakfast room earlier each day. Everything very informal - we asked to have dinner on both our evenings there, but didn't know the price until we checked out! (A very modest 27 Euros each, including generous red wine—for a fixed 4-course dinner of delightfully simple local dishes). We had room 102, a superior double, at an equally modest price, which had a comfortable large double bed, a small but adequate shower, and (unusually) adequate storage for clothes. Furnished with an assortment of furniture of varying vintages, with French windows which would have been lovely in the summer. Provided you are ready for a rustic experience, with good simple food, and don't expect slick luxury, this is an ideal place to stay to visit the Villa Romana Dei Casale, for the stunning mosaics, a few Km away.

I have looked at other reviews which are incredibly mixed. We were actually moved here after our original B and B overbooked so when we arrived didn't have a room for us, you can imagine, very stressful! Anyway, they had a connection with the Hotel Villa Romana and so we ended up there. Yes, it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing hotel, it's on the main road through the town, the lift is very clunky, and the room was totally bland. However, it was clean, well situated, we had no problems at all with anything, the breakfast was standard but perfectly fine, and most of all the staff were absolutely lovely. Someone else mentioned the issue of language, and yes, we do speak Italian so I don't know if there might be a difficulty with the staff not speaking other languages but one of them certainly did speak English, as I do sometimes have to check out my Italian vocabulary as I am by no means fluent! We had a very funny conversation about Italian hand gestures and what they mean. We found the staff really helpful. The place was really quiet, I think we only encountered 2 other guests and I couldn't really understand why. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the hotel. Maybe people now are just going more for B and Bs or apartments, or if you have a car, Agritourismo. I would stay here again, definitely, so want to give a good review to balance out some of the negative ones, everyone is obviously subjective in their reviews, we are all looking for different things. This isn't the most amazing place to staybut it provides a good base which is all you need when going around as a tourist. Plus, Piazza Armerina is very lovely, and the hotel is right on the edge of the centro storico.

We stayed only one night to visit the villa romana, but it was one of our favorite b&b stays. The home is beautifully situated overlooking the town, easy to find with the Garmin gps. Our room (farfalle) was on the second floor with a jawdropping wide terrace, over a similar terrace with the dining room. Luciano's warmth is perfectly described by his morning announcement: i have a big family that changes everyday! The room was comfy, large, great AC, nice bathroom. There is ample parking, and i heard no dogs barking. You should have no qualms about staying here!

We chanced on this B &B when we just couldn’t face driving in rain, in Sicily in Piazza Armerina one second longer. Rather than give directions, Lucia sent her son out to guide us to the B&B which is really centrally located. This was so helpful The B&B is brand new, exquisitely decorated and designed with the comfort of guests in mind. The bed was comfortable, shower hot, and bed made the next morning before we’d finished breakfast Lucia is also a tour guide for the Villa Romana and gave us great background, she also guided us to Morgantina which is an archeological dig that hasn’t made most guide books yet, but should The breakfasts were out of this world. I should criticize something because otherwise you might think I’m exaggerating, so I will say that we told her she was priced far too low, and her price doesn’ t reflect the value she offers. We hope she corrects this🙏😀

The host, Luciano, owns 2 properties: La Casa Rossa Country House, for which we booked, and nearby La Casa sulla Collina d'Oro, which used to be owned by his mother. Luciano is extremely friendly and gregarious even though he does not speak English very well. He runs his B&B with his cheerful wife and a young German-speaking helper. When we arrived at La Casa Rossa, we found it locked. But there was a sign on the door with Luciano's name and phone number on it. I called and he answered, telling me he would be there in 2 minutes. His helper drove up shortly and asked us to follow her to the other property, which was just around the corner on the next street over. Once there, Luciano explained that he was doing some maintenance to La Casa Rossa during the off season when not many guests came to visit. We would be staying at La Casa sulla Collina d'Oro, instead. It was a large, older house with a great panoramic view in the back, where the breakfast room and balcony were. It was a chilly day and a crackling fire was burning nicely in the fireplace in the living room. Even before we were shown to our room, Luciano offered us coffee and wine. What hospitality! We enjoyed our espresso and wine sitting on comfortable couch and listening to Italian music while looking at the cathedral on the opposite hill glowing in the late-afternoon sun. Luciano made some excellent restaurant recommendations for dinner. The room was adequate in size with a large bath. The shower stall was the usual tiny square affair, about 65cm on each side. There was plenty of hot water for shower, though. Breakfast was very good and served in a communal style around a huge table. Although the weather was not the best during our visit, we had an excellent stay nevertheless. I would definitely recommend this place.

Vanessa is absolutely lovely: but our three apartments were up from the main square in a very, VERY difficult area to get to. There are two parking spaces outside but I don't think the place is used very often, so everyone parks there to go to church, or shopping or - well, who knows? We spent thirty minutes in a stand off with our two cars, and if you have anything larger than a Fiat 500 4 seater you won't make it round the corners. THe apartments are VERY spacious, if a little sterile and new, but the stress of having to go out in the car ( and the dread of meeting anything on the little road up and squeezing the car through between the walls ) took the edge of it. I believe the other apts are better fro parking. and you DO need a car in this part of the world.

I chose Al Ritrovo so we could drive there from Catania airport without having to navigate through Piazza Armerina in the dark. We did not arrive at the hotel in the best of moods. After chaos at the airport car rental desk, and then the chaos of Sicilian road signs, we arrived after their restaurant had closed, and most things were in darkness. So we went to bed tired and hungry. Luckily the bed was comfortable, and the room quiet (even though the hotel is sandwiched between two roads), so we slept well. And breakfast was worth waiting for. Served in the sunny walled garden, there was a good spread of sweet and savoury. We left much happier than we arrived! Maybe next time we might get to try the restaurant.
