Late March is still quiet season on the island so the hotel was only partially full but everything from the fabulous breakfasts -- a buffet of western and Japanese food -- through to the French style food in the evening were special and reasonably priced. We stayed four nights and ate out two nights at local places and in the hotel two nights. The hotel is isolated so you need either a rental car or taxi to get around. We rented a car one day, went on a couple of half day tours and otherwise used taxis. That worked for us but another option is renting a car from the airport for the entire stay. The hotel sits above a large lagoon that fills up and partially dries out according to the tides. The weather was cloudy every afternoon so we never saw the famous sunsets the place is noted for but imagine it would be beautiful on a clear evening. The beach is small but at low tide it is fun to walk out into the lagoon and explore the tide pools. A woman was harvesting the local Japanese seaweed from the coral rocks the day we explored the lagoon. We slept four in one room so a bit tight but everyone had their own bed. The room was outfitted well including all of the normal bathroom amenities along with free WiFi. We had a great time on the island using the hotel as a base while combining sightseeing with sampling local restaurants. I would rank it up near the top of Okinawa island vacation spots. It is accessible by plane -- only a 20 minute flight from Naha -- or ferry which is the cheaper, though slower option.

Resort Hotel Kume Island was a huge complex that can probably House 10% of the island population. It felt almost abandoned while we stayed. While the resort grounds were kept well, the interior probably has not been renovated since the 80’s. The stale cigarette stench filled the hallways and while everything was functioning, the room was in a desperate need of some renovation. Puddles on the balcony never drained making it impossible to hang out on it. Luckily the beds were at least comfortable and the room was spacious enough for three. The pool looked great but it just never got warm enough for us to enjoy it. Worst part was the thin walls that didn’t stuff out any noise from the outside. Even with less than 10% occupancy, noise was an issue when kids from a floor below were being loud. Breakfast spread was good with lot of healthy options and local Okinawa dishes. The airport bus route stopping at the entrance was also a nice convenience.

The hotel to the beautiful eaf beach just walk for a minute. Next to the 24-hour convenience store, restaurants are more. Diving equipment is also very substantial.

the beaches were outstanding and full of coral due to recent storms , the water a blue free aquamarine and cool. Spend several hours on the beaches with friemds from across the globe as we met there. very friendly people and helpful and visited several places of interest including ruins of a castle and viewing points and the fertility beach and the famous tata,i beach até in local restaurants and had many local food but the sea grapes were my best treat ever, like vegetarian caviar and then the local prawns ... these are special make no mistake different texture and flavour ... the local variety is in for an award at the international food festival early in 2020 i believe.. it's that good. The is.and is small about 52 sq km and you can hire bicycles or a local cab there is some bus service but did not try it.
