The Novotel Genova City is a fine place to stay if you are to catch a cruise ship. If, like us, you are thinking of walking into the old town to see the sights, forget it - the traffic is a nightmare and the area around the hotel is pretty unappealing. There didn’t seem to be anything open nearby on a Wednesday night. Checkin staff were polite and friendly - what we have come to expect from most Novotels in which we’ve stayed. The room was fine. The ambience in the bar was OK but the drinks were fabulous. We ordered a couple of martinis (you have to ask for a ‘Martini cocktail’ in Italy or you’ll get a vermouth) and enjoyed them so much, we had to order two more. I think the barman’s name was Marco - thanks for a fabulous martini cocktail. With nothing open nearby, we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant - good move. The 25€ buffet looked pretty ordinary so we decided on a la carte. We ordered a bulgar salad, a pasta with pesto (Trofie alla Genovese) and a costate de bovino. The salad and the pasta were delicious and the bowl was deep so we both got some to eat. The steak was perfect with baked potatoes. Breakfast next morning was not bad but, unfortunately, the coffee was disgusting.

Very spacious ( standard ) family room, with a great size bed for the adults plus bunk bed for our children. We were located on the 4th floor and unfortunately there was a strong cigarette odour on the main corridor (thankfully not as much in a room itself). Friendly and helpful staff. Lady from the reception desk was was very informative in regards to local attractions and how to get to the best beach near Genoa. Hotel is located next to the main, very busy road, which is not ideal if you want to keep your windows open, as it gets really noisy. We were travelling in April and unfortunately the hotel A/C was switched off (outside the summer season) so it was a choice between a hot room or noise, which wasn't great. The nearest metro station is a 5min walk from the hotel which was very convenient. Fantastic breakfast, definitely worth paying extra. Good choice of variety of products, from cooked breakfast to pastries and cakes. We had a one evening meal in a hotel restaurant. There was a bit of communication barrier with the waiter but that only added to the charm of Italy. Unfortunately one of the meals (pork dish) came undercooked ( raw meat was clearly visible) and my burger bun was very cold ( not properly defrosted), which is a shame as the food was very nicely presented. Overall we had a great stay and we would come back again.

Hotel Galles is located next to Genova Piazza Principe railway station in a busy area, very convenient for travellers. The noise from outside can be heard during day. Fortunatelly it is less noisy during night. The surroudings are not very nice. The hotel is a bit seasoned as could be seen for the state of the amenities. However everything that was listed in the booking was there. The room had a strange smell in the first night probably due to the cleaning products but nothing that some fresh air did'nt solve. Staff is nice.

A perfectly decent hotel for one night. The friendly staff, good location, rooms are small, but everything is, but the bathroom is quite large, with the shower cabin installed very close, although the size of the room would allow to set a normal bathroom or Large-sized cabin. I think designers who plan to lay out furniture and other things in bathrooms are former "triples," almost all hotels can find numerous "laps." For example, The hotel has a towel shelf over the toilet and garbage bucket, not near the shower cabin or washing machine, although the bathroom room is huge. Plus: - The hotel is in the center of the city, all the sights in step-to-step access, - a beautiful terrace, with which the view of Genoa is very nice to have breakfast or just drink a cup of coffee - close to the station. Minuses: - the building is old and there is a smell of moisture, for the lovers of the Eurorenovation will be very "continental" breakfasts. With hunger you will not die, but a week so eating would not be desirable - the hotel is located above the station, so it was quite noisy at night, the first night was tolerable, and the second was given with great difficulty - the safe was blocked - in the closet only three or four hangers, what is very uncomfortable - there were no extra pillows, and those on the bed were very small - near the washing machine there were no shelves, no soaps, everything had to be put straight on the washing machine, so the soap all the time slipped into the water, the glasses too .

I am settling on a 3 star review mainly due to the refund I received otherwise I would have rated this 2 stars. I booked the Presidential Suite to celebrate a 65th birthday. The room itself was beautiful with amazing sunset views with electric room darkening blinds, three large smart TV's, separate living area and 2 full bathrooms. The location is convenient and steps from one of the main train stations. The bad: I have booked suites before and was surprised there was no welcome gift or cocktail. My next surprise was to find a very used coffee station complete with the crumbs from someone's breakfast. The shower was clogged and didn't drain. Next was the TV in the bedroom didn't work. Then to find the smart TV's were all blocked from using the network aspect so no ability to login to Netflix. Your only option was YouTube if you had a TV account. No English channels except for BBC and CNN. The ability to change the language and subtitles were also blocked but they did unblock for me so I could change that feature. The coffee station is in the dining room while the tea station is in the bedroom. I tried to relocate the tea kettle but it required pulling out the furniture. I requested an extra tea kettle and I was told I had one, after explaining the situation three times, I pulled out the furniture, unplugged the kettle and relocated it myself. They did finally bring me a kettle but after two mornings of inconvenience, I was forced to resolve on my own. Lastly and what completely ruined the stay was the daily deactivation of my room key which is used to operate the lights. It is not just a card insert, it has a chip and the chip must be active for the card to engage the lights. Each evening usually after 9:00 pm, the card deactivated. Understood the first time, completely unacceptable the additional evenings. When I asked what the problem was, they said there was an issue with the controller but at no time did they take any proactive steps to to minimize my inconvenience. This meant each evening, I was suddenly in the dark and had to wait for resolution. The staff did try to resolve all of my issues but unfortunately, the service level was not reflective of a 5 star hotel and my special surprise was ruined for this 65th birthday celebration. I did stay in close communication with the hotel staff about the continuing issues that kept occurring. I was surprised I never heard from the hotel manager and on the day before my departure, I did ask to speak to the manager and we communicated via email for about a week until an acceptable resolution was agreed upon. I do recommend this hotel as I'm sure the standard rooms are wonderful but I would not recommend the presidential suite for a special occasion, sadly the service levels are just not there.

We were a weekend in Genova with my fellow and we chose the Major hotel to stay one night. It is located in an ancient palace in the heart of Genova, walking can reach almost all the tourist attractions, restaurants and locals are a little overall nearby. Mrs. Franca welcomed us at the reception, we had a nice conversation, advised us where to go to dinner and the typical pleasures to enjoy; the room was very comfortable, clean and with private bathroom. We were on the second floor and the palace was not provided with lifts, but it was not a problem for us. We made breakfast in a room on the ground floor in the morning: there was a little more to eat than coffee and the cappuccino to drink made at the moment with the machine. We have been very well in this facility, we advise you to travelers like us, not of great demands, who love to stay in a pleasant and clean place in the city center, just like this hotel. Thank you again for your hospitality, Genova is a colorful, charming jewelry. We hope to come back soon!

I have to say that the hotel from the outside looking in is quite luxurious and well featured. However, it is a real pity that I cannot rate my experience higher since I found my sleeping so horribly impacted by the lack of air-conditioning. The hotel website/booking.com listing advertises air conditioning as one of the featured amenities - this is not true throughout the year. The front desk told us that the air-conditioning is only switched on in May because of the age of the hotel, and that there was nothing that could be done to turn it on despite the heat. After complaining further, we were given a fan that did little, and meant that we had to sleep with earplugs in order to drown out the droning sound. We know that we were not the only guests struggling with the air conditioning issue, as we witnessed another confrontation from a different guest with the front desk person on our final night. For all of these reasons, I cannot recommend that you stay in this hotel during the winter and spring months, as it seems from other reviews that the management team have no interest in resolving this fundamental issue of guest comfort. We will be seeking at least a partial refund for our experience.

Genoa was a stopover to Milan for a temporary stop. There was no requirement for the hotel, but StarWorld Hotel exceeded expectations. The room is large, the decoration is also decent, the keys are very old, with too heavy, you can leave to stay at the hotel. Continental breakfast is not bad. I didn't go shopping in Genoa, so I don't know much about the city.

We stayed four nights over New Year's and were really glad with the choice. The hotel is just a block from the tangle of streets of the Centro Storico and incredibly easy to reach by car. I liked that there were so many very good restaurants within easy walk of the hotel. Although Genoa is a working city, we never felt unsafe walking back to the hotel late at night. We didn't take the bus or tram while we were there but it seemed that public transportation was close and convenient from the number of stops we saw just a block or two from the front door. For the price paid I thought it was an excellent deal. The staff keeps everything very clean from the public areas to the rooms. The interiors seemed recently renovated and we appreciated the minimal design. The bedding was particularly comfortable. The bathroom was great: lots of space and a fully functional shower. We appreciated the self-serve business center to print out passports and proof of covid testing prior to our flight home. We didn't use the fitness center. There's an enormous public 24/7 garage across the street but valeting the car with the hotel was the same price. Their garage is in the building next door so there was never a wait for the car.

A very nice hotel in Downtown Genoa. The place was clean, the morning breakfast was excellent, the bed was very comfortable and we had a great stay! The only thing that was unusual was the room key they gave us was a physical key on a giant weighted keychain. It was a little hard to stuff into the pocket of my pants. . . but we thought the hotel was great!

We are going to start with the things we didn't like. 1) We booked a superior room. But our room looked like a basic double. Small. Images look slightly different to the room that was offered. 2) The bathroom was old and worn. A bath tub with shower. The pressure was ridiculous. A gentle trickle at most! 3) The Breakfast Buffet was sufficient. Nothing spectacular but overall a variety. They were a bit slow topping things up and occasionally when we asked, we felt like we were putting them out. Also when they say they stop serving at 10am, they mean all out and doors locked by 10am! They started taking plates away at 9.25am on our first morning. 4) The Bar and Restaurant was hardly ever open in the 4 nights we stayed. 5) Reception were not really helpful. When I asked for restaurant recommendations, I received this reply " I can't think of any right now so just use the internet" 🤦🏽‍♀️ Now the GOOD things: 1) Location is good. 5-10 mins from the centre. Also only a 15 minute walk to the Port area. 2) There is a lovely park across the road with a waterfall. So worth a visit! 3) The bed was comfy. If anything, I would ask the hotel to refurbish the bathrooms as a good shower is always needed!

The Victoria House is located a few steps from Genoa Station, easily reachable on foot. Upon my arrival, I found myself in front of a fabulous 20th century building. The hostel is located on the third floor with a lift. Marco, the owner opened the door for me and made me sit in the waiting room. My heart lit up when I saw the "Alexander Supertramp" poster hanging on the wall. Marco is really a wonderful and very kind person. During the check-in he explained to me in detail the information of the structure and he also recommended many beautiful places, where he could better enjoy the Genoese experience. The room was beautiful, clean, with air conditioning and light bulbs, and power outlets next to the bed. Behind the bedroom there was a shared bathroom with shower. In this structure you can also cook, because there is a large kitchen with all the culinary utensils, to cook you a delicious "Pasta al pesto". Next to the kitchen, a nice living room and a lovely balcony where you can have a good aperitif. If you have to do the shopping, outside the hotel, a 2-minute walk will take you to the INS cheap supermarket and several typical Genoese bakeries and butchers. In short, summarizing everything: I was really well. Customer service: 10/10; Cleaning: 10/10; Comfort: 10/10; Price: 10/10. Thanks also to the hostel volunteers who have this unforgettable and joyful experience.

Excellent modern mini suites in a renovated building just across the road from the Principe train station and on the main street to the historic centre, about 10 mins walk away. (Palazzo Real is on the same street). Entrance to the hotel, like many of the other old buildings is very narrow so take care not to miss it. Surrounded by cafes and restaurants but still pretty quiet. We had a separate bedroom linked to a small sitting area with a super large armchair, desk, mini fridge and tea and coffee making facilities and even a couple of biccies. Bed and pillows were really comfortable. Bathroom was also reasonable size with modern fittings, a shower cubicle (no bath) and complimentary shower gel and body lotion. A buffet breakfast is usually available for 7 euro we were told but was closed due to covid. This was not an issue as there is a decent cafe next door and several others to choose from close by as well. My only criticism was that there was no heating in the room. We could only get the air con to blow out cold air and as it was pretty chilly and wet during our stay, we could really have done with a bit of warmth.

Well, It was a very nice hotel. Room was quite big, very clean, bathroom seemed brand new and felt very luxury. Clean lobby, nice breakfast area. All in all i would give 7 star to this hotel for cleaning. But unfortunately, cleaning is not everything. Here comes the list 1. Spot lights: I checked in the room, I noticed that spot lights are blinking, i was bit surprise because they put LED lights in non-compatible DC connector, a very basic issue we face when changing to old Halogen to LED. on my way out I told to reception to fix it (remove LED and put back Halogen lights ). I came back around 12 in the night. and was not very happy that lights were blinking in hall way, in the closet and above sink in the bathroom. I called the reception, someone show up and inform me that they are LED, hm...... I said. well they did not have any spare lights so i asked him to remove my lights and tell his management to talk to me. so he did and left and I went to sleep. next morning i talk to front desk and they told me that they are aware of problem, and working on it to fix it (hm.. changing back to halogen doesn't require lots of time ). at the breakfast one of my friend also told me that his lights were blinking too but he didn't care about it. this made me very unhappy that hotel is charging us lots of money and can not fix basic things. they offered to change my room but i refused. and used my mobile phone light to get my things from closet. so if you plan to go to stay at this hotel take your flash light with you, if you don’t want to feel you are in disco in the middle of then night. 2. Elevators: This is a fairly large hotel , which has only two elevators, so be ready to wait quite a bit before you get a ride. Btw those two elevators has badly programmed as well, meaning if its going up, it will still stop for you while u want to go down. 3. Coffee Machine: There is only one coffee machine in the breakfast room. At Sunday I was at breakfast around 830 and it was que of 15 people at the only coffee machine 4. Too crowded / Less staff: at the breakfast there were almost 100 people in the area. There was not enough staff present. Due to covid one girl was serving items behind the counter, there was a long que as well. Clearly hotel was fully booked, whey they did not put enough staff for breakfast, only God knows. So at Sunday I could not have breakfast. Next morning, we decided to take early, we went there at 0700, no one was there, lights were off. I at 0704 I went to ask at reception, and guy told me very confidently that breakfast is open, and when I politely told him that no one is there. Then he picked up the phone and started to call someone. Anyway in few min staff came in hurry and we were able to start breakfast. 5. Food Quality: I did not have any dinner / lunch at the hotel. But at Sunday I saw the staff putting cheap juice in the juice container. Rest of the food was OK, bread and other bakery items seems fresh. Boiled eggs

Yes, you read the title correctly. Hospitality is an industry I understand. Five years ago, I left that industry, but I worked for the luxury brand of Marriott Hotels for eight years. I stayed at the Melia Genova from January 25th to January 27th. It's a boutique luxury hotel, and my stay was made at the last minute. I was sightseeing and enjoying the city, but I had a work emergency and decided to stay at the Melia to get to work on my laptop. So I check in to the hotel in the late afternoon and go upstairs, unpack and get to work. After hours of taking calls and fixing problems, I get up to use the bathroom, and I lift the lid to the toilet seat, and it's been used. Luckily it was just urine, so it wasn't immensely disgusting, but I still have to urinate, so I flush the toilet, do my business, and head downstairs to speak to the front desk. Some things need to be said in person. I first asked for a manager, but nobody was available since it was past 8 pm. So I explained what happened to the front desk lady, and she immediately got defensive. Now, I am not going to yell at the front desk for a mistake that housekeeping made. So, I was surprised when she became defensive because I was simply explaining the situation. Her response was along the lines, "I don't understand why you didn't call us right away." I had to explain to her that I didn't want anything from her that I thought it would be best to talk in person and that I am simply telling her so that she can tell her boss, which inform can talk to the head of housekeeping and fix this situation so that it never happens again. Now, while I can dismiss the mistakes made by the front desk attendant as simple shock or undertrained, I cannot dismiss the fact that no supervisor reached out to me in my two-day stay. You're a boutique luxury hotel. Your whole business model is based on return clientele. Now I'm left wondering if the front desk agent never told her supervisor, or they thought it was a hoax or simply didn't care. If a used toilet doesn't deserve five minutes of a supervisor's time, simply state that they are sorry and that the issue has been fixed and give assurance that it will never happen again, then what does? That's enough on that subject. The other thing that made my stay unpleasant was that the queen size bed did not have a queen size mattress. They put two smaller mattresses together to make up a queen-sized mattress, leaving a fissure in the middle, making it very uncomfortable to sleep on. Also, while the rooms have these beautiful extra large hinged windows, they are not as beautiful when you realize your neighbors can look directly into your bedroom. \

Right in the middle of the shopping area within easy reach of public transport. We found the food in the restaurant excellent we tried other places nearby but they were not a patch on the hotel restaurant run by a friendly team with enough variety for our 4 day stay. Some of the staff in the restaurant also served at breakfast which always had plenty of food and fresh coffees served by friendly staff. The room we had was large and had excellent facilities. As another reviewer has said this is not a modern hotel but the public rooms are stunning especially the breakfast room and dining room. A feature is the staircase - an opportunity to tread on the red carpet!

The contrast is surprising: you walk in from the hustle and bustle of the square in front of the railway station and into the calm of a gracious old hotel. The fragrance as you walk in is calming. Our welcome from the receptionist was perfunctory more than friendly. It wasn’t even informative: we didn’t find out where the lift was straight away and there was nothing about the location of the breakfast room or anything really. The reception area and historic lift and stairwell are all beautiful and have an old world charm. We were delighted by our large room (411) which was modern, clean and had all the mod cons. The WiFi is great. Our bed was extremely comfy and we slept well because it was dark and surprisingly quiet. The view was not nice but I think I prefer the quietness. Breakfast was a very good buffet served by very friendly staff. The only thing letting it down a tad is the plastic and paper cups used for coffees, juices and the suchlike. A good selection of food though. Great recommendation for restaurants from a much more friendly and helpful female receptionist on the second night. Stayed a third night because we were so happy with the hotel. Right next to the Brignole railway station, it is perfectly located if you are arriving by train and it is a good base for visiting local attractions such as Santa Margherita, Portofino, Cinqueterre. On our last day we asked if we could check out an hour later and this was no problem.

Great pity because with some basic renovation it could easily get another star hence it ends up as an average 'stay overnight' diga. First the good things: it literally is 3mins walk from the airport check-in and the staff are attentative and nice people. The bad things: rooms are spatius but dated. It is fairly obvious that things are starting to show signs of wear and tear e.g. bathroom, furniture, bed etc. so why not rennovate? I also didn't like the underground parking.... far too cramped and dark for my liking and the toiletries, very, very cheap. But the worst thing was breakfast.....too basic, cold food and tea and the tables hadn't been cleared....all at 8 in the morning...i.e. peak time. Btw breakfast was 10euros! So non exactly a bargain.

I stayed in a dorm room with a big window. Bed was comfortable but not private which was still ok. No AC and walk up a couple levels but the place was so welcoming. The staff were amazing and interacted with everyone and the kitchen had everything you needed to cook with. Waking up 9 or 10 am I smelled Tomato sauce or Pizza cooking from the dorm window. The hostel is in a Great location for the Historic area. There is a Really good Pizza place across the street and Marias Restaurant a couple alleys over. Laundry was 5Euro but the dryer didnt work. We hung our clothes outside but there were clothing racks to dry on as well. I would definitely recommend. Wish I was back there.

We need to give this feedback to the Hotel. When we were checking in the receptionist told us that it would be preferred if we would like to have dinner a little late. They were expecting a Group so come at 21-2130. We came down at that time at the restaurant. First he asked if we had reservations - there were only 4 people in the room. He was not very plesant when taking our order, and while we were eating they started to turn off the lights!! He was really annoyd for coming late to dinner cos’ he had breakfast at 6 o’clock. As much as I feel sorry for his work shifts, I do not appreciate to eat dinner in the dark or feel the total lack of conmunication between the front desk and restaurant. It was very unplesant.

Helvetia We loved everything about this hotel and we loved our flying visit to Genova. Although it was only one night we made many memories. The staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. We were lucky enough tostay in the apartment and it was truly amazing. Beds were comfortable and facilities were excellent. Breakfast was delicious and great quality. Even a machine for freshly squeezed orange juice! It was very central and we walked the winding streets to see an incredible array of little local shops and historic landmarks. For simple pasta the hotel staff recommended Gaia and we were not disappointed. Thank you Helvetia. One day we hope to return.

One of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in ! Let’s start with the service, which is actually no service, employees, especially at the reception are unfriendly and not helpful, it seems they want to make your stay terrible plus they hate speaking English - so you better learn Italian before you stay at Hotel Continental Genova! Mentioning the Hotel, it does NOT deserve the 4 stars AT ALL. The Breakfast is terrible, not fresh, what gets warm will be served next day, the emloyees seem greedy, you have to ask twice for more, the room service was not good, the lift smelled like trash every day, we had dirty brown water during the first two days of our 5 day stay, the air condition was loud as hell and smelly too! They gave us a room “in the 4th floor, which is really high and nice” - in the Ende our view was a wall from the neighbour house, dark and grey! No to forget - the area is disgusting, rats, junkies and homeless people everywhere around and in front of the hotel! Yes, the main train station is close, but you will feel uncomfortable coming back to the hotel and walking that 500m through this area! Las but not least - the reception is rude rude rude and unprofessional! PS Wi-fi is very slow…
