Overall it was a very pleasant stay. We had an issue related to inaccurate reservations but the staff was kind enough to upgrade us to a room of our choice at no extra cost. Location wise it’s perfect for anyone wishing to stay in the heart of San Francisco. There were some minor issues with the room though, such as operating the TV and remote was a nightmare. Internet kept on dropping at the farther end of our suite, away from the router. The staff was kind enough to replace the router but that didn’t improve things much. The kitchenette light kept on blinking. However, overall we loved the location and the hospitality, also the view from our suite.

The hotel is located in the financial district, San Francisco is small in size and not far from the attractions. It is a few minutes walk from the bus station and bus station, and about 10 minutes walk from the Embarcadero Center and the Ferry Building Market Square. There is a Thai restaurant in the center of the river terminal. There are supermarkets, cafés and restaurants around the hotel, and some cafes and restaurants are closed on weekends. The front desk is friendly and offers disposable slippers, but you need to call and you can store your luggage. The facilities are old (most of the hotels in San Francisco are built longer), the water in the sink is small, and the bath water is OK. Room Wi-Fi charges, SPG members are free, and Wi-Fi is free in public areas. There is no coffee machine in the room and it is not possible to boil water. There are more homeless people in San Francisco and relatively few financial districts.

From Seattle to Vancouver by car, I chose the Hilton Hotel at the first stop. I thought it was good in China, but I did n’t expect it to be a nightmare. Two large bed rooms were booked at Ctrip, but the front desk gave me an ultra-small room, and beside the elevator, this check-in felt like being next to the runway of an airplane, and I couldn't sleep at all. Negotiating with the hotel was useless. Negotiating with Ctrip. The hotel responded that the room was full and there was no way to change the room. I wonder if the hotel ca n’t sleep in this room?

Right in the middle of Chinatown, which is a good thing because offers you a wide range of restaurants, food stores, and interesting spots. Close to Market St and lots of highlights and public transport. Humble but correct rooms. Clean restrooms. The staff was very helpful and kind. I would totally recommend it to anyone.

We stayed in October, the rooms are very hot during the day and night and there is no air conditioning. There is a lot of noise from traffic and people on the streets both during the day and night. At around 4pm daily a busker with a not so good singing voice plays right across the street.

The Embarcadero is our favorite area to stay in San Francisco and over the years we’ve lodged at Harbor Court and the Vitale multiple times but this was our very first stay at Hotel Griffon which is next door to the Harbor Court and provides the same panoramic views over the Embarcadero and out to the Bay Bridge. Arriving during a time when the pandemic is still holding sway over our nation, the experience was a much more subdued and quieter one that usual. It was clear that this was far from the normal times of high energy and nearly constant activity that San Francisco usually exudes. For us tho’ it represented an ideal transition from “shelter in place” to a special respite. During our stay at Hotel Griffon we felt that safety protocols were carried out in the best possible manner and we felt well cared for. Sharon, the front office manager was a delight to talk to and so helpful—she saved us a futile walk to a restaurant that had closed just days prior to our visit. It didn’t occur to me to check on their status but she did just that. We encountered other pandemic-related changes: Parking in the nearby Rincon Garage was necessary since hotel valet parking wasn’t currently available, and on-site Perry’s restaurant where we normally would have had breakfast was closed during the morning. Hotel Griffon’s small historic (built 1901) lodging ambiance really appealed to me. The rooms are small and intimate and feel very comforting. Our Room #419 also provided a stunning, scenic view over the Embarcadero and out to the Bay Bridge. During our short stay I spent an inordinate amount of time just staring at the Bridge and sat for over 30 min. mesmerized by the undulating “light show” that plays out each night. It is truly art! Being able to watch it from the comfort of our room was a pretty incredible experience. Our room, although small, had all the wanted amenities including a super comfortable King bed, good size desk with swivel chair, 32” flat screen TV, phone, in-wall safe, coffee maker, hairdryer, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The closet area was quite small—a little alcove near the door but would still be fine for a couple of nights. Our bath was tiny and the sink and counter were actually in the main area with only the toilet and bath tub/shower combo in the separate bathroom. The basics all worked well with good water pressure, lighting and ventilation—the fan was kind of noisy but kept the bathroom steam-free when the shower was engaged. I was pleasantly surprised that there were multiple, accessible outlets and USB ports in the room, and that the lighting was sufficient to comfortably read by it—something so often lacking in many hotel rooms. We only turned on the heating/cooling system for a short time upon arrival. The rest of the time the room stayed at a very comfortable temperature. Our room was at the end of a hall and was nice and quiet throughout the night. We loved being able to walk a short distance to dinner at

Stayed here for a week with two friends. I'll start with the positive things this hotel had. Great location, the neighborhood seemed safe and had plenty of restaurants nearby. Across the street you could see the Dragon's gate entrance to China Town. You could get in less than 10 minutes (walking) to the Moscone Center. Union Square is just a couple of blocks away. It includes the most basic of breakfasts: either a bagel or toasts with cheesecream, butter or jam. They also had apples and oranges, orange and apple juice, oatmeal and coffee and tea,, but that's basically it. The bedroom was very comfortable and clean, it had one small room with the bathroom, a small closet and a sofa bed and one room with a full bed and a handwash. The cleaning staff worked daily and I have no complains over the cleanliness. The staff was pretty cool too, they had great manners and were very helpful. Now, the negative part is that our room was in the second floor and there's a club in the first floor, son on friday and saturday sleeping was a nightmare, everything vibrated and there was heavy noise until about two or three am, they don't specify that on the website. I would go back since the price seemed right for what we got.

Such a great stay! From the start to the very last min there. We arrived very very early in the am. The gentleman at the desk found an upgraded room which was ready for us to check in. This was soo wonderful as we just flew in from hawaii and were in need of a shower. I was able to get washed up and we hit the town right after. The hotel is soo cute and nicely decorated. They serve fruit water and tea daily as well as a wine hour in the evening. This was right before the covid-19 got very bad so we were treated with reassurance and cleanliness. Everytime we stepped back into the hotel from adventuring, we were treated with warmth and genuine interest in how our day went. When it was time to leave, we were soo sad to go. We ended up staying out till much past our checkout time and kept calling in to extent. When we finally got back, they did not make us feel rushed and were understanding. It was such an amazing trip and a fantastic stay. We will for sure be back!

I booked the hotel for a business trip to San Francisco, the hotel was booked for 2 weeks, I had a problem the first day with payment for some problems with the company card and I had to pay the first night, the next day, Everything was resolved with the payment, so I asked for the money back and the answer was that they would keep the money for the possible expenses included in the room, I did not understand the answer, because they treated me as if my company was not going to pay or as if I didn't have money to pay them, it was very uncomfortable and very disrespectful. It is not the first time that my company has booked at this hotel, I do not understand how they have not contacted the company if they have any problems and they treat me as if I were not going to pay them or as if I had no money. The experience was very unpleasant, and until the last day, they treated me as if I was going to leave without paying when in fact they should have contacted the company to solve it. Too expensive for the room so small they have and for the service they give, the hotel was very noisy at night and during the early mornings with a lot of blows I would never recommend it and I have asked my company to never offer it again to the workers because it is really a bad experience.

Stayed for three nights, and greatly enjoyed our stay. - Service: We were welcomed at reception by Edric, who gave us excellent service throughout our stay, with recommendations, prompt answers for any question we may have had, and a wide smile. Really added to our experience. Other staff were very helpful and pleasent as well. - Room: upon arrival we were offered an upgrade to a room with a larger bed but without a street view. The room itself wasn't too big, but we definitely got our money's worth. The room was clean and pleasent with all the regulat amenities. Only bad things I can think of: the corridor needed more light, and the shower had only a built-in showerhead (which was very aesthetic, but not as useful), without the option to adjust its direction. Could have used a hand held showerhead or at least a direction-adjustable showerhead. - Location: right next to chinatown, walking distance to many stores and restaurants. As foreigners we were worried about the distance from the Tenderloin, but the streets were very safe and you really shouldn't be concerned about it.

The front desk staff (Ben & Daimler) greeted me with HUGE smiles after a long flight. They offered me a much needed quiet room and even upgraded me to a beautiful suite. Complimentary wine tasting was going on in the lobby with live music. My room was beautiful and very clean. After unpacking, I realized I forgot toothpaste. I went downstairs on my way to dinner and asked the front desk if they had any extras, they brought it to my room along with an extra toothbrush while I was gone (amazing!). Great location. Walkable to so many restaurants. Will definitely stay again.

We made our yearly trek to the Nikko in mid October. Obviously with the pandemic, things were markedly different. Our first clue was landing at Oakland Airport, when we got off the plane it was like a ghost town. BART was less crowded, but there is a bit more riff/raff on the train than normal. When we arrived at the hotel, we entered through the garage, as the front entry was boarded up. Check in was easy as always and we had a wonderful room. They were very much in "Covid prevention" mode with only 2 people (unless same group) in the elevator, everyone was masked up. Rooms were impeccably clean and you let them know when you wanted housekeeping, and you had to be out of the room for them to take care of that. There were very few guests in the hotel and I think we had the whole floor to ourselves. The Imperial Club lounge is closed temporarily, and you could use the workout room for a nominal fee. The restaurant was closed Sun/Mon/Tues and open for dinner the other nights. It was very surreal to be in the restaurant with so few guests, but the food was outstanding as well as the service. Dominique was awesome. They do have a food truck and we were able to sample one of the items and it was also great. We look forward to our visit next year and hopefully the world will be back to a more normal state.

Extended Weekend visit to the city for pleasure. Mini vacay. 2/10/2020 Breakfast at the Cafe. - Morning shift Cafe hostess/cashier was very competent with a little bit of attitude. Attitude changed when it was tip time. :-) - Food was great 2/10/2020 Evening at the Cafe - Hostess / Cashier was super helpful and pleasant. - Needed to heat up some leftover pizza and she was happy to accommodate by heating up in the toaster over. Waaay better than microwaved. Rooms were very nice. - We were assigned an ADA room - Minimal counter space in the bathroom as a result. All good. - Bed was a bit on the hard side. Sore back after a couple of night. - Room doors slam shut. Would be nice to have anti-slam devices installed. We lived through it. Added a towel to the door when closing and minimized door rattle when neighbor doors were shut and softened the slam when we closed our own door. Overall: Excellent stay with super helpful and cheerful staff. Thank you!
