0.92km from Japan Town SushiIn a world of trendy hotels and Airbnbs, I was a bit skeptical that a bed and breakfast might be... shall we say... sketchy... dirty? This place stole my heart. It is a charming Victorian located ONE BLOCK from the Painted Ladies. If you walk one direction, you get to Hayes Valley/Civic Center BART. If you walk in the opposite direction, you get to NOPA. If you walk in yet another direction, you get to Lower Pac Heights/Japantown. And if you're up for a lot of walking, you get to the Valencia St/Mission. The interior of the bed and breakfast itself is not fancy, but for my mom and my San Francisco staycation, all we needed was a clean, quiet place to sleep in a safe neighborhood. They offer a continental breakfast which is modest, but the coffee is from Bicycle and the pastries are from Jane, so everything is high quality. The staff is very nice and accommodating. They let us store our valuable luggage behind the front desk when we checked out of our room, but weren't leaving till later in the day. My mom's wedding anniversary is in a month and she's thinking of taking another staycation with my dad at The Grove Inn. If you want to truly experience a San Francisco hilly neighborhood full of Victorian homes, stay at The Grove Inn.
