Hotel Goldener Hahn should not be called a hotel. The service is (was) the lowest I have ever experienced during 30 years of travelling around the globe. Besides this the staff is very impolite and rude. It seemed as if nobody was having fun at his job in this so called hotel, which actually is a pub with some old fashioned rooms. I did get the impression that all of the staff, where suffering from some serious depressions. At arrival they asked me if I would like to use a breakfast.” Yes, around 7.30 hours please” was my answer. Later that day a second person (an Arabic woman Shalabi I think she was called) asked me again about the breakfast. I referred to my first conversation on which she responded that breakfast only was possible after 8 o’clock. The next morning I walked down the stairs at 7.30 hours and it was still totally dark. I than decided to walk out in order to buy a breakfast on the street. At that moment a woman entered the hotel. She was going to make my breakfast, so she said. I had to wait for 20 minutes until my breakfast was ready, and it was a very poor breakfast. I immediately did tell her that this was the first and last time that I would have breakfast in there. The room did not have a safe deposit box, neither a refrigerator. The curtains are old and dirty. The water from the shower was so cold that I just sprayed myself wet quickly in order not to freeze. After 3 nights I did leave this place at 8 o’clock in the morning. As nobody was there I just dropped the key and left. I will never go there again.

It was a good experience to stay at this hotel for the first time at the German exhibition. Hotel location is very convenient, just opposite the Duisburg Railway Station, the facilities are complete, relatively clean, service is also good, is the first choice for business travel, is booked through Ctrip, that price changes are more, praise it.

The hotel in question is one of those in the region, which have been established in a building forming part of a railway station, which in my opinion is a good exercise in reconversion. This particular hotel is one of those in the chain, which have not yet been recently refurbished according to new guidelines, and in particular a new entrance might do some good (so that one does need not to leave the station in order to enter the hotel), but these are minor snags. The location (towards the communication hub as well as the city itself) is simply making up for anything anyone (or at least a short-stay business traveller like me) might hold against it

The Good : 1)Staff was quite friendly and spoke good English. I was able to get all necessary information from Reception 2) It is near to Tram and Central Station (Duisburg HBf). 3) Rooms and washrooms were quite clean 4)Hotel is very near to the shopping street. 5)It is also near to quite a few restaurants (including McD, KFC etc) Turkish-Chinese are also very near. The Bad : 1) Availability is always an issue - so if you want early check in - it is quite difficult - you will get room a little late. 2) Net Connectivity is an issue and is quite intermittent.

If you ever find your way to Duisburg, the steel and iron capital of Germany, you will see for yourself there is basically nothing there. I had to visit some agents and this is my second time round. I score them 5 points because nothing was wrong. They delivered on everything we needed, clean comfortable rooms, friendly staff, although the breakfast staff were a bit miserable but maybe it was because I asked for a fried egg. The look on her face was priceless but I got my fried egg so no issues at all. Check out was smooth, WiFi was fast. There were a large bowel of red apples on the bar and candy in a jar and on the end of the day for 80 euro what do you expect more!

We moved to this Hotel after we could stand the cheaper hotel zum luin no more. It’s lovely. Nice big comfy beds. Air con. Lovely shower and bathroom and hairdryer. Mini bar and fridge. Tea coffee making facilities and lovely breakfasts. Staff friendly. The only negative was the staff member said we had drunk a bottle of coke out of mini fridge that we hadn’t. We had our own bottle. No big problem as they didn’t charge us. Lovely breakfasts. Gown and slippers in room. Bedding changed every day. At 36 degrees we found it impossible to sleep without the air con. No noise at all. Lovely place.

I have had the pleasure to board this hotel for numerous times in the past months and I am completely satisfied. It's situated just a short walk from the old town area of the city of Duisburg and is easily reachable by train or car. It features stylishly furnished and decorated rooms and all the rooms come with a small balcony. There's also neat restaurants around the corner as well as a little burger and pizza joint inside the loewe hotel where you will have to pick up the key for your stay. Lastley the owners are really helpful and forthcoming. Nuf said, anytime again...

Our greeting was he host from the hotel in the street telling us where to park. A first, but welcome after a 7 hour drive. The hotel is small but very friendly and welcoming. The room was a double room overlooking our car. This was ideal as we could keep an eye on it. The room (a double / twin) was small but incredibly functional. The bathroom was easily the cleanest I have ever seen in a hotel. The bed was clean and tidy. A desk was provided with tea and coffee (not the norm). The hotel only supplies breakfast for meals. This is enough to set you up for the day. Cereal, bread, ham, cheese, boiled eggs, yoghurt, fruit etc etc. The pool was a little cold on our first morning trip but again clean, with towels provided on the chairs in the pool. The sauna is available on request (30 minutes notice) and costs 10 Euros. Our host could not do enough for us. We have to leave at 06:20 on the day of departure and he says "just take what you need from the breakfast buffet for the journey" and here is some foil to wrap it in.......it doesn't get better. There is a tram stop five minutes away to get you into Dusseldorf. Shops and a Shell petrol station also 5 minutes away. A real find. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Stayed here for couple of nights and found the hotel tidy and comfortable. Especially rooms on the new "non smoking" side are great. - Shower is hot and great pressure - Clean and soacious rooms - Easy access to freeways - S bahn station (30 min to Dusseldorf) and supermarket (Penny) next door - Good breakfast (great fresh bread) - Restaurant had yummy food Only down sides to this hotel: Restaurant can be noisy if hired out for functions at night, people gathering at the front of the hotel and smoking (smoke comes all the way to the reception).

This hotel is housed in a little way out of the central area but has great parking & very clean rooms. The owner has obviously taken a lot of care and pride in the newly decorated rooms , which are en-suite. The shower is very good. There is a separate building where breakfast can be taken. But it was being redecorated while we were there and therefore our breakfast came to us in the bedroom - which was O.K. It was a very good breakfast & we had scrambled eggs on toast, as we like a light breakfast. But also cheeses , meats , bread and marmalade were also brought for us along with coffee. It was all very good and well organised We only stayed one night as we were travelling elsewhere to meet friends. I would recommend this especially for the cleanliness & the owner also speaks good English.. Good value & safe parking.

A hotel that helps a colleague make a mistake. This family was good in all aspects of the evaluation and chose this family. The hotel's been making good comments. Nice position, too! Good recommendation!
