My family got 'stuck' in the Residence Inn as we were moving from Puerto Rico to Minnesota. We didn't know anyone and everything was closed. Needless to say by my property rating score, they didn't make us feel 'stuck in a hotel' at all! While doing everything they could to ensure cleanliness and prevent the spread of germs, they also maintained a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I have grown accustomed to chatting with Nicole in the afternoon and Tony in the early morning hours. I haven't just been given an 'above average' stay while I've been here. I've truly been given a little home away from home - even without the gym, pool, breakfast, and other things that we generally think of when we picture a great hotel. I've learned that, like the bed and breakfasts and small town inns that came before larger hotel chains like Marriott, sometimes someone knowning your dog's name and what time you run in the afternoon is a better hotel ammenity than any hot breakfast could ever be. It's been three weeks here now, and it's funny to say it, but I'll be sad to leave my little room at the Residence Inn - Downtown Saint Paul. Even more so, I'll be sad to leave the people that welcomed me into that room and welcomed me into Saint Paul with the better first impression than I could have expected.

Cool historic place, nice location. We stayed here for our anniversary. We understand that COVID affects hotel stays, but much of what we were displeased with should not have been affected. Maybe our expectations were too high, but not a great experience. Positives: - Nice location, cool historic building - Very lovely room - Awesome beds and bedding - Day staff was nice - We were upgraded since it was our anniversary - Very clean - Nice bathroom Negatives: - They did not have Netflix, Hulu, and Prime on the TV as indicated in our confirmation email. when we inquired, were told there were apps on the TVs, but they didn’t work, but if we were tech savvy that maybe we could figure it out. - No bottled waters were in the room. Had to awkwardly go to the lobby and get it ourselves (we think we were supposed to anyway, when we went down during the night to ask the staff mostly just waved towards where they were.) - Eve/night staff were not friendly, felt glared at whenever we left the room. - No extra TP in room, just a not quite full roll. We had to go down to front desk to get more. - Zero times of being asked how our stay was. - We asked about a honeymoon/romance package which was not a standard offer. Were told they would see what they could do, but didn’t get any response with a quote. They had put roses and chocolates in the room (as well as a bottle of champagne, which we did know would be a charge and agreed to that). We were charged far more than we would have been willing to pay for roses and chocolate. - we ordered food via grub hub, but the restaurant forgot plates. We asked for two plates and were given the biggest they said they had, which were tiny appetizer plates (square, maybe 3 or 4”) - We asked for a breakfast restaurant recommendation and were told to check google - The coffee machine was on a table but no where near an outlet, we had to move it around and find an outlet. - Thin walls, easy to hear the neighbors. I would never stay here again, and would not recommend (at least until they fixed the concerns, some of which may be there because they have not been open a long time.)

The staff at reception were excellent and the room was clean. It was confusing for us where to register and then where to park. When you arrive it looks like 2 entrances to parking, but take the fist one. It does say registration above the entrance. You can park there while you register, unload and access your room. Then go back and drive out and go into the next entrance that is the parking lot. There is an elevator that you can use to access the hotel. An alternative is to park your car first at the 2nd entrance and then use the elevator to access the hotel. If you don't have much luggage, this will work fine. But we had luggage, cooler, etc.

My husband and I stayed here after an accident landed us in the hospital across the street. Ken White, the manager and his whole staff took such good care of us as we spent a couple extra days of healing before flying home to Texas. The breakfast and dinner buffets that were included in room rate kept is from having to make painful ventures out. Room was clean and spacious enough for my hubby to get work done while I enjoyed TV and rest in the front part of the room. It would have made me stir crazy to have to sit in a bedroom the whole time.

Very roomy and clean. Appreciate that breakfast is available and that disposables are not used excessively. I was disappointed to see that Styrofoam plates were brought out once the china plates were used. Maybe more plates need to be on hand.

This was my second time staying at the hotel within two weeks. I stayed at this hotel because it was within 5 miles of the Xcel Center and offered complimentary shuttle service to/from the venue. What I enjoyed most about this hotel: 1. Abundance of free parking 2. Friendly and well informed staff 3. Onsite restaurant that opened at 4 PM each day 4. Complimentary shuttle service. Opportunities for improvement: 1. The exercise room is warmer than usual. Temperature could be dropped a few degrees or add fans for circulation. Equipment was well maintained. Room was staff with towels and cold water. 2. Contacting the desk at times was a challenge. There were times I would call the front desk and immediately be placed on hold. No "hello", no "I need to assist another guest" just placed on hold. Not the end of the world but a little frustrating. My workaround was using the Hilton Honors app to text message the front desk. I always received a reply with ten minutes.
