This is the best hostel that I have stayed in with so many extras provided that are rarely seen in a hotel, let alone a hostel. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with a seeming 'zen garden' which doubles as the downstairs restaurant/bar. Unfortunately I never ate here but the menu always made me wish I had! The staff are extremely friendly and will go above and beyond to help. Now those extras I mentioned? Every day you can collect a fresh towel and face towel (EVERY other hostel charges between 50 - 200yen per day for this), the bathrooms provide free toothbrushes, razors and body sponges should you require them. Breakfast is provided (a seeming luxury across Japan) in the form of toast and miso soup. Coffee and tea can be purchased at the ridiculously inexpensive cost of 100 and 50 yen respectively. The rooms from the bedrooms/dorms to the shower rooms all continue an apparent decor theme of a clash between traditional and modern Japan (That's how I interpreted it anyway) and it just works in creating a calm and soothing environment. The beds are up there with the most comfortable I have slept on in Japan and the capsules are spacious with every bed assigned a drying/hanger in the dorm and an extra in your capsule. Lastly, the location is perfect! A short walk to Hiroshima Castle and the Peace walks/memorials. Furthermore, Miyajima is easily accessible from the hostel both quickly and cost effectively. I could go on and on but please, make sure you make Kawate-Ya the one you stay at for your stay in Hiroshoma!
