6.76km from Kantine RestaurantThis place has two faces: one for the week, one for the weekend. During the summer months the rooms during weekends are blocked for wedding guests that rent the premises for wedding and other functions on the nice lawn in front of the sunny café terrace with colourful furniture. Most people therefor stay just a few days, on weekdays, in summer mostly with small children. These families come here for the Ravenburger Spielland nearby that is famous all over Europe. There are a few small animals for the children to interact with, but no full playground with climbing, swings or other toys. Inside, however, on the first floor is a very large play barn with a huge inflated cow for the kids to climb on and jump off on rainy days. It is very popular. The rooms are recent and well laid out and fully equipped. We stayed in a family suite with a separate bedroom, kitchen/living area with a large couch/bed for two. There was a terrace with 4 folding chairs and a small bistro table with umbrella. Inside there is also a small square table but just 2 chairs. The quality of the beds is only average, the bathroom simple but functional with a nice rain shower. Towels were exchanged every day, bedlinen not, nor was the flat cleaned unless asked for it as an extra. There were two large LCD tv’s permitting separate viewing by adults and children. The “farm” has a café/restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as snacks and drinks all day long. The food is simple, and the choice limited, but the sun-drenched terrace with two sandpits for children makes up for the lack of inspiration on the menu. The prices are high in comparison with local pubs and restaurants, especially when comparing price/quality ratio’s. The crews serving and cleaning and at reception are mostly from Eastern Europe and not always fluent in German, sometimes better in English but not always. The waiters that take the orders are friendly and capable and polite, the “runners” bringing drinks and food to the tables not always. Conclusion: During weekdays Gut Hügle is a nice place to stay with children, with good quality lodging and simple food and beverages. Points to improve are the children’s outdoor toys, the small animal’s area that looks poorly maintained and the quality of the café, which is now very “Bio” or “Organic” oriented, more a fashion statement like in many places in Germany now.
