1.42km from Karachi Darbar RestaurantWe were pleasantly surprised on arrival at the Carlton because we had read some of the negative reviews and were expecting a poor experience. Yes, the rooms are very dated regarding decor but the bed was very comfortable. There was no unpleasant smell in our room and we were allowed straight into it on arrival although it was only 9 am. This was ideal because we had had a long night flight. We found the staff extremely helpful and obliging. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff in the breakfast dining room were very attentive, constantly asking if we needed anything else. There was a wide range of hot and cold dishes and the hot dishes changed daily . We enjoyed a meal in the Indian "Spice" restaurant on site and prices were reasonable. We particularly enjoyed the biryani and the entertainment during the evening The rooftop pool area is very nice and clean and constantly attended. The location of the hotel is not ideal. It is on a busy main road with no views really. However there is a free shuttle bus to the Mall of the Emirates (not to be confused with the Dubai Mall at the Burj Khalifa) and the metro. There are plenty of local supermarkets and cafes just behind the hotel 100 metres away. We found the drinks in cafes and hotels generally very expensive in Dubai, especially the alcohol, but the Carlton was offering some alcohol inclusive deals with a meal. On the whole we had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay.
