|1.29km from city centerWe stayed in our hired campervan for 3 nights. It is a very clean and well maintained site with nice views over the lake, a 15 minute walk from the facilities of Te Anau. The shower blocks are very clean and warm and well equipped with hairdryers etc. Staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful, for example for our walk to the Kepler Track nearby, and in booking a Milford Sound Cruise for us at no extra cost.

|4.66km from city centerLoch Vista Villa is about a 5 minute drive from central Te Anau. It situated on a hill with a fabulous view of the lake and surrounding mountains. We did a tour of the Milford Sound and the tour company picked us up at Loch Vista, super convenient. The owner, Phil, is a great host. This is a traditional B&B, you're in a house with other guests, sharing breakfast at the table, etc. If you don't want to interact with anyone, then this is not the place for you. It is very clean and comfortable, although we were there approaching winter and it was a bit cool in our room - but there was a space heater provided. Each room has it's own television and you can get Netflix. The main lounge has a nice wood burning stove. The continental breakfast was very nice. There is tea/coffee available whenever you want it. Phil is very knowledgable about the area and has lots of information about local activities.

|1.35km from city centerWarm, spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed was the most comfortable I've had on this trip, the heat pump had the room toasty on arrival. Kitchenette was perfect and had everything I needed to cook a meal. Gorgeous view of the lake and town, very close to the bird sanctuary and and easy walk to the centre. Feels separate from the holiday park and a really good value for money deal.

Te Anau
|0.47km from city centerI stayed here for about a week over late December 2021 and early January 2022. New Zealand was still largely closed to international tourists due to COVID-19 border restrictions and a number of accomodation providers were't open. There was good availability with accomodation providers that were open. Te Anau was busy without being crowded, very pleasant. In many ways the Bella Vista Motel is a delightful place to stay. The owners are friendly, welcoming and helpful. It's only five minutes walk from the town which has a good supermarket and some excellent cafes, restaurants and food caravans. The bed was incredibly luxurious with a comfortable mattress and 5 star hotel quality sheets and linen. However, the room was small. There wasn't a lot of additional space apart from the bed. One of the reasons I choose a motel rather than a hotel was because of cooking facilities. Most motel units have a kitchen or kitchenette. The Bella Vista has different kinds of rooms, some with full kitchen facilities and others with more limited cooking options, and their online reservation system did specify these. Moreover, due to browser issues I found booking online to be quite complicated. When I checked into my room I found that the kitchen facilities were extremely limited, almost non existent. I could make coffee and tea and prepare toast in the morning on the extremely small bench space and that was it. There might have been a microwave, but I don't use microwaves so it wasn't an option. I ended up getting most of my meals for dinner at the amazing Bao Now caravan, some of the best street food I've ever had anywhere. The kitchenette area, a small bench above a fridge also did not have its own tap, water or sink. I had to get water and wash dishes in the bathroom sink, just along from the toilet, which wasn't particularly pleasant. The other aspect about the rooms were that, at least surrounding the room I was staying in, there was virtually no soundproofing. I could hear almost everything in other rooms - conversations (even when people were speaking quietly), television, showers and flushing toilets. This was not generally a problem as fellow guests were quiet and respectful and lights seemed to be out by 10pm. The limited soundproofing (at least in the room I was staying in) didn't cause any major problems sleeping, but it could if the rooms were occupied by guests who like to stay up late. Generally the lack of full kitchen facilities, small room size and limited soundproofing didn't cause any problems as I was out everyday hiking, cycling, and going on float plane and helicopter trips. However, when staying for a reasonable amount of time in a place (such as a week) I sometimes like to have a break mid-week and relax for a day where I'm staying. This wasn't really that possible here. Admittedly I did get the smallest and cheapest room. I would have paid more for a larger room with full kitchen facilities (these are availa

Te Anau
|0.51km from city centerThe location is in Te Aru, there is no lake view to see, it takes about 2 or 3 minutes to walk to the lake, the door just happens to be parking, the open kitchen, the kitchen is a bit like a bar, only the toaster can toast and soak. It is not too convenient to boil water and cook with utensils. There is a wardrobe, but there is a quilt in the wardrobe, and the hangers cannot be taken out. There is no drying rack. The most dissatisfied is the toilet, the washbasin is too short, the hot and cold water is difficult to adjust, and the bending is very uncomfortable, not because I am tall, my height is medium, and then there is only one bathtub, but really how many now Individuals can lie in the bathtub? Most have showers, so you can only stand in the bathtub and shower, and the toilet is in the bathroom next door. To be honest, motels are everywhere in Te Anau. But in high mountain areas, it is not too demanding.

|0.9km from city centerWhat a quaint facility. Housed in a former convent, there are eight rooms in the main building and assorted additional rooms in other structures on the property. The breakfasts were served in what had formerly been the convent's chapel. One night we stayed in a railcar that had been outfitted as a bedroom,. It was lot's of fun although don't expect a four star bathroom in an aged railcar. Most importantly, Nick the front desk clerk, manager, housekeeper, breakfast server, and bellman was fantastic. Every query was responded to with accurate information. Every request was fulfilled with attention to detail. If every hotel had someone like Nick, people would never complain about service.

The bathroom was spotlessly clean, beautiful, and even has a TV in the bath! I will be making the trip back to Te Anau just to stay here again and will be highly recommending it to all of my family and friends

|0.86km from city centerThe hotel proprietress is enthusiastic and will introduce you to the surrounding situation, introduce the main attractions on the way to the fjord park, help us ask about the local traffic conditions, and take care of driving slowly and pay attention to safety. Because the hearing is not enough, she still takes the trouble to write to us. Thank you so much. The restaurant introduced was good, and the popular restaurant in the town. Although we rushed to the boat time at 10 o'clock, we could not use his breakfast order that friends highly recommended, but early in the morning, the boss and the proprietress were busy in the restaurant. Thank you.

|0.42km from city centerBuilt in 1970 to a very high standard, the Luxmore reminds me of the L.A. Grand Hotel Downtown (Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice video) & the Ahwahnee Hotel (The Shining movie)! Perfectly positioned in the main street of Te Anau and a short walk to the Glow worms cave tour boat pier. Plenty of free parking and a quiet location. The rooms are spacious, excellent pressure and stable hot water temperature. We booked the package deal of Glow Worms tour and breakfast. The hot breakfast menu was extensive in the Bailiez Cafe & Bar. Special mention to ”Yana” on the front desk for excellent service.

|3.61km from city centerWe enjoyed a relaxing stay here with Jeff and Jan both on our way and upon returning from Milford Sound. Jeff and Jan were warm, attentive and helpful hosts. We were served tea and cookies on the porch upon our afternoon arrival and greeted by a friendly terrier named Eddie. The facilities were warm and comfortable and clean. and a divine hot tub. Garden views with beautiful flower gardens and a more than adequate continental breakfast made our stay every bit of a respite that we hoped for. Highly recommend.

|0.91km from city centerThe hotel is not by the lake, at the corner of the road, about 5 minutes walk to the lake. It was opened by a Chinese couple. After so many days, there was a Chinese-speaking front desk. The owner was very friendly.
Cars are parked in the hotel for free. Milk was delivered upon check-in. The room is large and has a kitchen, so you can fry and cook your own food. The bed is 1.8 meters, bath products, hair dryer, kettle, microwave oven, stove, towels, no slippers, toothpaste and toothbrush, the room is clean, there is a heater, you can turn on your own heating.
Not far from the supermarket by car, not far from the visitor center, the freshchoise supermarket here is quite large and has a wide variety
The hotel does not include breakfast, you will leave after you eat bread and check out at 10 o’clock on time

|0.89km from city centerWe travel very often and can honestly say we have never been welcomed so friendly and treated so great. Although an older building, it was very clean and welcoming. Room was very spacious with a small living area. Coffee station and toiletries was very good. We had a room with a reasonable lake view. We had to do some laundry while there. It was so easy in huge machines. We stayed there on by birthday and was treated with a lovely breakfast. Although a small selection, it was extremely tasty and freshly made. We wanted to stay for breakfasts on other mornings but could not as we had to leave early. Thank you so much for an awesome stay. Will be back again.

|0.74km from city centerWhen booking accommodation at a holiday park we weren’t sure whether it could be something we would regret. We are a couple in older age group doing a trip to Doubtful Sound. We were delighted to find Tasman Holiday Park on the beach front, adjacent to the cruises and town ship. Our motel units were modern and set as a small cluster . A separate modern kitchen and family dining was available to all the units . A good set up for family groups . Reception was prompt and very pleasant. Would definitely recommend to friends and family

|5.32km from city centerDisappointing. The thing I was looking forward to most was the food as the reviews and photos looked very good. Also, their sample menu looked amazing. Many choices per course. But this is not the reality, they are only doing a set menu per evening with only one choice per course. We did not like some of the ingredients in two of the courses and therefore did not enjoy them. I feel they need to remove the sample menu from their website, as it is misleading and they should tell people when they book a package deal (accommodation and dinner) that dinner is a set menu with one item per course. Considering there is only one choice I feel they should not be charging $90 per person. Also the eggs benedict my partner ordered in the morning looked like it was a child's portion and had very little salmon. What made this experience worse for me was the fact that it was my 50th birthday so I was hoping for something special. Hopefully when they start serving dinner again in the spring that they will have more choices available. The lodge and the rooms were very comfortable and cozy.

|0.72km from city centerTe Anau Lakefront Backpackers is manned by friendly and extremely helpful staff. Do note that the counter is not manned 24 hours (I think it is from 9am to 8pm), so if you have any requests for the next morning it's best to check with them the evening before. Room is a little old and basic with minimal space to walk about. Same goes with the bathroom, although helpfully the basin area offers a countertop to place your toiletries. A 2-person bedroom is drastically different from a 3-person one (where our friends stay), as the former is a bedroom with shared living space (sofa, kitchen) while the latter has its own kitchen. The hostel offers overnight storage at NZ$4/bag/night and has a shared coin-operated laundry room.

While the size is reasonable compared to many others, and includa kitchenette and bathroom. The entry sliding doors overlook Lake Te Anau. A beautiful setting. The bathroom was good and had a separate shower and bath. Everything was clean and in working condition. Wifi worked well and is complimentary. Location is very good, and right on Lake Te Anau. It's about 10-15 minutes pleasant walk to the town centre. The views to the lake and mountains are beautiful, especially when covered by snow. The heater works well and the bed has an electric blanket for a very warm bed in the cold weather. Overall a very good experience and happy to stay here again. Thank you.

Te Anau
|0.65km from city centerI have been to Te Anau on two prior trips (early January 2017 and 2020) and always wanted to stay here given its reviews. However, lodging in the town is often nearly fully booked more than a month out. On my first trip, I had to use Airbnb. On this trip, I was excited when I was able to book a room in Radfords on the Lake. However, the day before my flight, Air New Zealand cancelled our flight from North America making our road trip impossible given ferry reservations. Kerri, the owner, graciously cancelled my reservation without fee despite being just inside the non-refundable 14-day window. We did manage to book a new trip to New Zealand a couple months later months in March and were happy to stay at Radfords. Kerri was very personable and remembered us from prior phone calls. Our one bedroom suite was nice and comfortable after a somewhat long drive from Wanaka. The hotel has laundry facilities, which we took advantage of. The hotel is located right next to the lake with the town center a few blocks away. Most people are passing through Te Anau to visit Milford Sound and it’s a good stop for two nights to break up the drive. This gives you more time to enjoy the area around Milford Sound, potential to wait for better weather and do some hikes along the way, such as Key Summit. On my first trip, I caught the first cruise of the day on Milford sound and followed it up in the afternoon with a kayak trip the length of the sound. My second trip was a night between completing the Routeburn Track and starting the Milford Track. Of the four days, I spent in Milford Sound one was raining and you could only briefly see the peaks. This also roughly aligns with my four days on the Milford track where one day it poured rain and another day was cloudy obstructing peaks. In summary, if going to Milford Sound spend a night or two in Te Anau to have a better chance at having a good experience when visiting Milford Sound. When I return to Te Anau (likely winter to see the classic snow on Mitre Peak), the first place I would look to stay would be Radfords on the Lake.

Te Anau
|0.7km from city centerWe arrived to find our key sellotaped to the office door. Turns out the office isn't staffed any more. This wasn't particularly a problem, but it meant that things like borrowing dvds wasn't possible (and TV was poor, so we would have liked to have borrowed one). Also, the motel book in the room said that the room would be serviced every day ( not to make beds, but to empty bins and provide additional tea and coffee supplies). Our room was not serviced during our stay. Room was ok, but very tried looking. The room slept 4 people and had cooking facilities, but we had just 1 bowl, 2 plates and cutlery for 2. None of the crockery or cutlery matched, which just gave the impression of being uncared for and tired. There was a broken chair outside the bedroom door with the previous occupants cigarette butts in. Gardens for all motel rooms are joined, so we returned back from a day out to find that the man next door was using our chairs to dry his washing on! We could see that the motel is up for sale and it felt like the owners had lost interest. Location was very good, just one road back from the lake ( and easy access to the lake via a gennel).

Te Anau
|0.59km from city centerThoroughly concur with other reviews as to how friendly and helpful the desk staff were throughout our three day stay. The communal areas were also very well equipped and clean. Bathroom facilities also good other than a mysterious beige towel that remained in a ”landfill” bin inside the bathroom for our entire stay despite the bathroom being serviced? My only problem was with room 12,,situated immediately next to the stairwell (with a storeroom underneath) , so we were exposed to the noise of fellow travellers going up and down the stairs, including late at night and at 5:30 a.m. in the morning. Also has communal BBQ area immediately outside the window. Not a serious issue though until being awakened on the last night of our stay at 11:40 p.m. by insensitive fellow travellers after which a sensor light in the hallway was being triggered every 2-5 minutes (presumably by moths?) which made further sleep impossible. This sensor needs adjustment or the light needs to remain on rather than clicking on and off? Last night ruined an otherwise really good stay.

There was a guest laundry room which was a great surprise and very welcome. The only suggestion for improvement is perhaps having whole fresh fruit at breakfast - the area is not too far from the fruit bowl of New Zealand.
