10.39km from King's Korner CateringWe chose this hotel because of the pet policy, and because the parking lot was big enough to maneuver a Uhaul truck towing a car via tow dolly. We had planned to go to the Motel 6 Petersburg/Ft Lee that night but did not stay there, because the neighborhood was so creepy. This one looked a little less scary. Mistake. One of the two rooms we rented smelled like smoke. The whole hotel is supposed to be smoke-free, but many of the patrons smoke. The cigarette disposal receptacles are all under the eaves, around the stairways, etc. so even if they are not smoking in the rooms you will smell it and walk through it. One of the beds had sheets with red stains on it. We're not sure if it was blood or lipstick. Another red stain was on the wall beside the bed, and another stain of other color. The bathroom floor was water damaged in both rooms. The fake wood strips had soaked up water, wrinkled, and detached from one another. There were items on the floor including a sock, bottle cap, dental floss, and cardboard trash. The walkways outside the rooms had broken glass, nails, screws and other hardware and trash all over. The trash from a recent renovation (chairs, cabinets, mirrors) were piled in heaps all around the building and on the walkways. Late at night you check in at a security window (the day check-in lobby is closed). The young girl who checked me in took a very long time to do so, although I was the only customer. She disappeared for long periods of time with my credit card and drivers license even though I had paid already (gave my cc# over the phone 15 min prior). The next morning there was again only one person there. Like the girl from the previous night, this girl appeared to be about 18 years old. There was no indication that the hotel was actually managed. Most of the patrons seemed legit but others loitered about in suspicious manner. In the morning I discovered a radiant heater bar across the front wall pumping out full heat. I then found a thermostat on the wall, but the dial spun around and you couldn't tell if it was on or off. That's why it was so hot in the morning despite the air conditioning being on. To sum up, this was the worst hotel by far during our 9-day trip across the country. We stayed in other Red Roof Inns which were quite good, but this one was not even close to standard. Having said that, the good points are: Pet policy (free). Can maneuver a truck with trailer (drive all the way around). Mattress was comfortable. Not too much noise at night despite being near the highway.
