Everything about this hotel is OK but that is the issue - it is simply “OK”. It isn't outstanding or great value or brilliantly located. It's all fine - but 'just'. Firstly the positives. Breakfast is good with a reasonable choice and lots of juice, coffee, meat, cheese and fruit. The cooked section is a little limited but OK. The breakfast staff are really friendly and attentive and there is a balcony overlooking the river. Great place to start the day if it isn't too hot. Inside is well furnished and has lots of space. The hotel is on the ‘other side’ of the river from the main city attractions so about 15 mins walk into town. The hotel is clean (although there was mould in the shower which was a little basic and outdated). The beds are clean and comfortable. There is parking across the road in a designated car park with a barrier - but during our stay, the barrier was open the entire time so not as secure as it could have been. The less positive. The premises need updating - it isn’t old-fashioned enough to be quirkily ‘classic’. I’ve stayed in similar places which were furnished in the late 70’s and they have a very ‘classic’ feel about them, which give a level of nostalgic charm. This wasn’t the case here. Our room was on the top floor facing the main road. Don’t Book these if you have a choice. We weren’t given a choice on our online booking platform. The ceiling is sloped, which makes getting into the bed, close to the slope, a little difficult. The decorative curtains are attached to the sloped roof with bits of metal bar which means you can’t close them. They are screwed to the wall! This attention to detail is an issue and makes the hotel very much the low end of a 3 star establishment. The Heat The main issue was that it was hot (over 30 degrees during our stay) and the rooms don’t have air-conditioning. This was a real problem. To cool down you need to have the window open all night - the noise from the street was incredible! Trucks and other traffic thundering past. Opposite is a late night pizza takeaway which is VERY popular and people sit outside waiting for their order - which is also loud. Just down the road is a club, which, in this heat, simply spilled out onto the street for late night rivalry. Loud. There was no fan in the room so impossible not to have the window open. The heat isn’t the hotels fault, but they didn’t do anything about the issue - if you were a responsive manager you would go out and buy every cheap fan you could find in the city, put one in each of the top floor rooms, apologise to guests for the inconvenience, provide a fridge with cool drinks or ice and make them feel like something was being done. We didn’t feel like that - the hotel was also fully booked so no chance to change rooms. This was made very clear by the note pinned on the front door - so no point in asking for a change of room. It was the most uncomfortable couple of nights I’ve spent in a hotel.

When we arrived at the hotel we were unimpressed by the outside and if we hadn't booked, we may have driven on. HOWEVER, I'm glad we didn't because inside the hotel is well decorated and the family run hotel is very welcoming. The location is excellent, far enough away from the noisy city centre but close enough to walk (10 minutes to Porte Negra) to all the attractions. Breakfast can be taken outside looking over to the Roman Bridge and the food was good. Trier is an amazing city and should be on everyone's bucket list and staying at the Hotel Constantine would definitely enhance your enjoyment.

This is a mid size hotel that operates with the Professionalism, efficiency. and thoroughness of a grand hotel. The desk staff were uniformed and operate 24 hours a day and are helpful with any problem: directions, travel plans, tours etc... I loved the lobby holiday decor, free punch, and comfortable furnishings. The location of the hotel is in walking distance to all attractions. The Hotel Restaurant has excellent food at competitive prices. The room price was right at $485 dollars for 5 nights. The room was large and spacious. It was beautiful. They even had a vending machine in the hall that sold N?A Beer for 2 Euros. I appreciate the fact they don't have a "gotcha" attitude for items bought on premises. You don't find a Coffee pot in the room everywhere in Europe and its nice to have for hot drinks. I added Breakfast for $10US and it was worth the price. All sorts of Hot and Cold selections that included Bacon, Sausage, and fresh baked Christmas Stollen that was better than that found at the Christmas market. It was served in a NO-Rush restaurant setting that was spacious. I had a long stay (5 nights) and had one incident with extended stay contract workers who were returning to Poland and were up late doing the polka on my ceiling at 1am but I got the impression that this was an aberration from the norm here.

This is my second time at this hotel as it is right across a plaza from the ERA conference centre and convenient for conferences there. The building itself could be described to be in the "brutalist" style, but don't let that put you off. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the centre of Trier town. It is close to the Roman Amphitheatre and the Kaiserthermen Roman Baths. The hotel is under new ownership/flag since i was last stayed - a Vienna House Hotel "Easy" brand and the lobby, bar, restaurant and breakfast area, not to mention the rooms have been thoroughly and tastefully updated since i was last here (it was previously an Arcadia Hotel which was a bit tired looking in 2015). The staff at the reception, bar and breakfast room were very friendly and helpful. I was there with my wife who enjoyed it and i stayed on for a conference - it seems to have a mix of ERA Conference attendees and coach tours. I would stay here again without hesitation. As mentioned, it is about a 15 min walk into town - so maybe not great for the less mobile.

I stayed 2 nights at Ricks City Hotel. The hotel is in the center of Trier and there are of course bars, restaurants, supermarkets (Netto) all within walking distance. Porta Nigra is less then 5 minutes. I arrived around 8pm and there was a notice in German on the door to call a telephone number as reception was already closed. I called the number and was give the code to open the safe next to the front door to get my room key. My room was on the 1st floor. The room and bathroom were very clean and looked new. The heaters (or radiators) worked well and were easy to make warn or cool. Large window which opens wide - I put my drinks on the small ledge to keep cold. TV had plenty of English and foreign languages options. I had reserved a single room, but room #1 has two singles pushed together. The bed was not very comfortable and a little soft for my taste. In any case, I did sleep well the 2 nights. I did not have breakfast but the reception was very nice when I checked out and paid. It was a nice touch to have fresh flowers in the room and around the hotel. Reasonable prices, clean, and centrally located - would recommend and stay again.

We were very warm welcomed by the owners who we learned are through and through passionate to provide her guests the most pleasant and comfortable stay. We were even a quite late for check in (reception closed in the evening) but they welcomed us personally. Parking is for a small fee available in a nearby car park (150m) but we could unload our baggage in front of the hotel and all luggage were brought to our room. We had booked a comfort room which was very spacious, clean with modern bathroom. The hotel is located in a quiet street but only a short foot walk away from the city center with various shops and restaurants, so we didn’t need the car at all during our 2 night stay. Typical German breakfast with many options for either sweet, savory or cereals preferences including fruit and cooked eggs for a very reasonable price. We can recommend this sweet hotel with their lovely stuff without any restrictions and will definitely come back again. Thanks!

Stayed here for 2 nights in the comfort room. Nice and very cosy with sweet colors of the pillows. The room is pretty large and we had a lounge bed in there as well so you don't need to lay on the when you want to chill a bit. Bathroom is a bit small but has a good hot and cold shower. Also the shower area is small. The bathroom has everything you need so no shortage there. Safety box was present, together with a tv set. Just a nice room where you can relax after a long day of walking in the area. We enjoyed dinner in the hotel and picked the Braustube because it's that great atmosphere you find in most of these German places. Nothing fancy, good service and great food. Add some nice wine and of course the beers and you will have a nice night. Do make reservations because it can get very busy. Breakfast has a lot of choice so to start the day with a good breakfast is possible here. If there is a negative or something to remark it was the temperature in the room, just too hot and we couldn't find a way to turn it down so instead we had the window open.

The staff at Mondo’s Kaffeehotel were wonderful. They were all accommodating, friendly and a delight to stay with. The room was the perfect space for a one night layover. The coffee cafe is wonderful with an excellent breakfast. The location of the hotel is perfect. As close as can be to the historic gate and a quick walk from the train station. I would stay here again without second thought.

Arrived at Trier by train from Luxembourg for our one night stay in the town. The hotel is about a 1000 yard walk from the station, straight out the station straight down the main road and the hotel is on the right: simple. The booking in was straight forward and the staff helpful enough and the Privilege room that we booked was both clean and tidy and had an excellent view over the Porta Nigra. (There's a supermarket just through the gates and on the left.) For some unknown reason Accor hotels only supply one bathrobe even though two persons are booked for the room, not that we ever use them just curious. The town has ample sights to see and its worth a walk to both former Roman bridges that cross the Mosel river here, although the original bridges were both destroyed in the war. Karl Marks house is not that far away nor is his statue and the Roman baths (now under repair) is worth the walk. The helpful staff at reception will supply you with a map. We did not dine at the hotel as we prefer to eat locally nor do we pass comment on the sleep quality as you either have good night sleep or you don't, can't blame the hotel: simple really. The town and the hotel was worth a one day stop overt. Good hotel, in a good location, with good staff and booked at a good price: what more do you want. Bon journey

Hotel Porta Nigra has a great location very close to the famous Roman gate and the old city. Unfortunately, if you book on Expedia you are told that the hotel has parking, but not that you have to book it separately. So we arrived and were told there was no hotel parking available and that we would have to pay Euro 15 per night to use the public parking at the Mercure nearby. I don't blame the hotel, but this should have been clear on the Expedia site. Be prepared and contact the hotel in advance if you want to use their parking facilities. We had a spacious family apartment on the ground floor - large and spacious with a kitchenette and dining table, fridge. Great. Unfortunately the hotel Wifi only extends one metre inside the room, so you can only access it from the bathroom or from the coat cupboard. This is rather annoying as you can imagine Breakfast was fine but the coffee maker used powdered milk rather than fresh so you are better off avoidingh the cappuccino and latte options from the machine. Housekeeping service was minimal. Front desk staff are friendly.

The wife and i stayed here for 2 nights. The desk staff grade A+ super friendly and helpful. Room was super clean. Free WIFI ... strong signal. Free parking (unusual in Germany). Free Breakfast..VERY unusual in Germany. In the evening we went to the lounge downstairs, sat in comfortable lounge chairs around the TV and were waited on but very friendly staff. These guys know what they're doing. The fruhstuck (breakfast) was pretty darn good for being free. i have to mention Jessica...only name i remember of the super friendly staff but the lady beside her and the other desk dude.....were over the top. They helped us get the best tour for the city and pointed to a good gasthaus for food. A+ all the way. will come here again if we ever re-visit.

We stayed there for two nights and made a great experience. First of all we enjoyed that there are plenty of parking slots which are included in hotel price. So when coming back at late evening from any excursion you don't have to worry about where to park your car AND no extra fee is charged. Make sure when making your reservation you have a car because you're up the hill and it's quite a distance to Trier center. But because of its location you have a stunning view from the rooms to Trier. We enjoyed that, day and night. The rooms could be more modern, but it was all clean, with tv, well working wifi, safe and your own bathroom. To darken the room there are curtains which is working well. Breakfast is noch included but can be booked separately for only 5€ per person and day. It is served in the restaurant which also has a beautiful view over Trier. Breakfast comes with plenty of options, you can choose whatever you want. Included are also hot drinks which is very pricey.
