We don‘t know where to begin. We are two young women from switzerland, and we first met Siri (like most of the people) at Colombo trainstation. After a disappointing beginning in ugly Colombo, he made us quickly feel welcome and safe. So we decided to book a tour for five days, which ended up in six. Siri knows the island like his own pocket, and really tries to show you more than just the usual touristic hotspots. Although he respects all your wishes and even walked with us up the exhausting Adams Peak... :) He treated us like a father - if we had a problem like head-ache, Siri runs through the hole city to help us. He is a really honest and active man, and we were never disappointed. And never hungry :)

If you prefer rather 5* hotels, this might be not the right fit for you. But if you want to be by yourself in a small hotel, just to relax with the sound of waves and sunsets, and lose weight, I would book this hotel for max a week. I stayed here for 5 nights ayurveda via Fitreisen.de What I liked: +grear Ayurveda treatments, you can also tell your wishes +everyone is super sweet and does their best +have an informative chat with the hotel manager who shares a lot about Sri Lanka; who is also very open for feedback +wave sound, very relaxing for the mind +amazing sunsets +you lose weight here as typical ayurveda food; but you can also tell your wishes about shakes, chicken or coconut to drink +every day yoga +very cheap booking; you can expect luxury for this price What I did not like: -fungi pool mattresses, but the hotel mgr promised to fix it quickly -smell of towels -ants in bed bcs of flower decoration -doctor informs you at the end about your Dosha?! Shouldn't it be at the beginning?! -street sound which is directly in front, but you get used to it with the nice wave sounds Little hints: +be careful with the ocean waves, never go alone; I didn't go in +this is the sister hotel from Oasis in Hambantota South, would prefer that but it is 4 hrs further in the south +within 45min 80LKR quickly in beautiful Gaelle for a day trip via local bus +see the lying giant Buddha 800 LKR or the turtle recovery station in Ambalangoda; otherwise nothing to do +within 20 min by local bus at the beautiful but crowded beach Hikkaduwa +wanna have a food change? Go to SerendipityItaly hotel 3km to the right and have original pasta and pizza from Italy +local bus trips are safe also for single women, just avoid night time

This place is clean and has a really nice furniture and kitchen. We were staying for a few days here, so we decided to buy food and cook our own meals. This villa was perfect for that, because the kitchen has all the necessary equipment for e day which was really appreciated. I was scuba diving at Dive Seenigama that is just across the street and I was also having access to the beach that is very quiet.

Lazy Koala, is way more than a hostel, although it's referred to as a tourist hostel and the rates are those of a hostel - budget rates - yet you have the feel of being in a boutique hotel. Beautifully designed, with a roof top deck, pool, and lovely rooms overlooking the sea, it has a warm and cheerful ambience that makes you feel completely at ease. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, designed and structured with every need of the guest in mind, with ensuit (private) bathroom and toilet. The roof top deck overlooking the sea makes you want to sit there forever contemplating on life, whilst the dinning room on the ground floor gives you the sense of a cheerful coffee shop, with gorgeous portraits of random people from around the world, which the staff informed us are photographs taken by the proprietor himself on his travels. There is parking space within the compound free of any charges. It's just a brief walk from Hikkaduwa town where the popular beaches are and, many restaurants, pubs and shops. For those who want to travel around, there are loads of tuk tuks which the helpful and friendly staff will arrange. But we simply enjoyed just hanging out at Lazy Koala enjoying the comfort and ambience and the warm hospitality of the staff. Chaminda and Ananda were so helpful and always available when we needed their assistance. Chef Punchihewa's rice and curry and string hoppers with chicken curry, itself are just worthy of just going back to Lazy Koala for. Thank you for a lovely holiday. I fully recommend Lazy Koala. I believe the place captures the essence of Sri Lankan hospitality, warmth, and serenity so well.

The Villa Kubura is located about 25min from Galle and it is expertly run by Sudath and his wife. Sudath spent his career as a hotelier and left to setup Villa Kubura and he has poured his vast experience into it. We stayed for 5 nights and could not recommend it highly enough. The rooms are very spacious and those on the first floor have a wonderful view over the paddy-fields. It really is an oasis compared to the hustle and bustle along the coast. The garden is wonderful and the pool is deceptively larger than the photos indicate. The food was truly excellent. We travelled around Sri Lanka for about three weeks and had wonderful food at a number of locations. However during our stay, we feel we had the best meal/curry on New Year's Eve at Villa Kubura. Sudath is an extremely experienced, tireless and generous host. He really goes of his way to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. His advice about where to eat, shop etc was always accurate and very helpful. He and his wife were extremely kind to us and our 10 year old son throughout our stay. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend staying here.

stayed in this amazing resort for 14 nights as a part of our mandatory quarantine process on 12th July 2020. Arrived at Amari around 5 pm. The check-in process was very professional and the safety precautions were outstanding. We have been offered a straight beachfront view room on the 8th floor. The room was fine and with balcony and we were not bored as most of the evenings the solo artist was playing music on the pool deck. (Divan ) and he plays the requests. The room was faultless, clean, clean towels, linen, comfortable with the best beds I have slept on. Amenities & tea coffee etc will be delivered to the room on one call without delay by the H/K crew and so friendly. Specially Mavinda very friendly & helpful. Chandana was so friendly and attention to detail always calls and checks our requirements and the status, defects of the room goes the extra mile & also awesome at his job. thanks, Chandana !! Special thanks to Army Medical officer Senarathna, so friendly and he treated us like a family member. And I was celebrating my birthday during this period, the chefs' team sent me an amazing surprise birthday cake to the room. Thank you Vithana- Pastry chef it was so tasty. -Thanks !! The food was exquisite, plentiful & tasty, sent to room 3 times a day and we never get bored as really good variety every day. Thanks to Sous chef Chandana for making and delivering such lovely & tasty food. most of the time we requested different meals (out of the regular menu ) but Chef Chandana make sure it's delivered to the room & follow up too. very positive & thanks once again Chef Chandana. Special Thanks to Executive chef Sampath & F&B Indika J :) :) for all F&B arrangments. Helpful reception team Thanks for the courtesy call every day - Senuri /Lakmali. The bar was closed it seems but we can order soft drinks thru room service & pay upon departure. We’d like to say a huge thank you to the manager ELSWORTH PERERA, for everything he did for us during our stay and his team. All in all, the stay at AMARI Galle is more than highly recommended for everyone. It was a wonderful time and we'd love to say a big thank you to the whole team for making this an amazing experience.

Having lived in Sri Lanka for many years, I've stayed in most, if not all of the top hotels. This is the first time I've given any hotel top rating. We arrived on Tue 6th Oct intending to stay just two nights with an itinerary of other hotels lined up for the next 2 weeks. In the end, we extended our stay at the Lighthouses to 12 days and have just reluctantly checked out on Sunday 18th. When we arrived, we were a little apprehensive that COVID and lack of guests would translate to reduced amenities or poor service due to reduced staff. Someone left a book in the room which is a short and engaging biography of Herbert Cooray, the founder of Jetwing and after reading that, we discovered that the Jetwing ethos is never to lay off staff They didn't during the worst of the civil war, or as a result of past civil unrest, or after tourists fled in the wake of the Tsunami and later the terrible Easter bombings of 2019. Now again, COVID has reduced tourism in the country to literally zero. But Jetwing have kept all their staff employed. Every morning, both pools are cleaned, gardens are tended and everything is kept spick and span. just as it would have been in periods of full occupancy. I don't think we were treated any better than we would have been in a period of high occupancy, but the fact that everything ran like clockwork, apparently just for us, did make us feel rather like royalty. This is just a superb hotel. The larger of the two pools by the seaside ranks as one of the top 3 in the many we have visited in our long lives as expatriates. Maybe it's rivalled by Kitchwa Tembo in Kenya, where you can look down on giraffes and lions on the plains below. The pool at another Sri Lankan hotel, the Kandalama is fairly special too. But this one is right up there. It's not a cheap hotel and is of such a high standard that it couldn't be. But what is amazing is that the food and beverage are so affordable. A bottle of decent wine is just 2/3 of the cost of the cheapest wine available in (say) the Hill Club and hardly more than true clubs such as the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, or the Colombo Motor Yacht Club, both of which we are members of. The standard of the food is just wonderful. At this point due to import restrictions, meats are limited to locally produced chicken, pork and seafood. We know from past experience that the buffet they lay on is superb, but as we were the only people there for the most of the time, we either ordered a la carte or had a chat with the Chef who was happy to produce things not on the standard or set menus. We tried him out with a request for Thai green curry and on the last night asked for Singapore chili crab. All was produced to a really high standard of excellence. During our stay, we viewed all three types of room. The Main Wing, the newer Spa Wing and even one of the suites - which was just out of this world. The Main Wing rooms are right next to the sea and we were lulled to sleep every night by the booming of

The Thambapanni Retreat is set in a beautiful lush tropical garden, with birds, monkeys and butterflies all around. Our room was beautifully decorated in a rustic style, with bold colours, a four poster bed and a cement floor inlaid with brass flowers and wooden beams, very unique! The staff here are extremely welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. True Srilankan hospitality! The restaurant in the retreat was a real surprise! The food prepared by Chef Muditha was without doubt the best we’ve had in the two weeks in Sri Lanka. We tried the prawn curry, crab curry and the grilled calamari and prawns, all served with dahl, banana flower curry, pumpkin curry and green bean curry. Absolutely delicious, all cooked with different spices, yet the flavours complemented each other perfectly. And the price was the same as most of the restaurants in the town. This will be our number one choice when we come back to Unawatuna!

My fiancé and I booked a stay here for 4 out of 8 nights we were in Sri Lanka, but ended up staying an extra 2 as we didn’t want to leave! This is a real hidden gem of a hotel. The immediate location is remote- nestled amongst greenery next to the river, but you’re only a 10 minute tuk tuk ride from Galle, and 20 mins from Unawatuna. The hotel even has its own tuk tuk and you can book a ride whenever you like. There are only 5 rooms, and as such the service feels so personal. All the staff are amazing, Indeka the owner is so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble! The decor and attention to detail is really something to behold, a perfect combination between rustic and luxury. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor bathroom, and the air con in the room was super efficient! The food was incredible... Traditional Sri Lankan breakfast was delightful, and the dinners and lunch we had were outstanding (we are massive foodies so that was very important!!) I could literally go on forever about how amazing this place is! Thank you so much Indeka and co, we’ll definitely be back!!
