The hotel is well situated in the center of town, near all the highlights and cafes, with a supermarket and tourist information center nearby. It's about a 15 minutes downhill walk from the train station. It has character, with a large fireplace and outdoor seating. Breakfast is adequate yet decent. Dinner is imaginative. The people working here were quite friendly. As for the room, the bathroom is of modern style, but the bedroom is somewhat shabby. My room was on the top floor, so it got quite hot and humid in July. The air conditioner is an old machine on the floor in the corner, very weak and ineffective. Fortunately, I was able to get a fan, but sleep was still highly uncomfortable and short. Other rooms might be better; inquire and beware.

We enjoyed this quaint place as we passed through the region. I wish we had stayed longer. Situated next to a small park, we had a comfortable and quiet suite, had a lovely well-prepared dinner and liked the breakfast variety of offerings - especially the fresh orange juice. The hotel was close to conveniences and shopping was a short walk away. Our hostess was gracious while providing welcome tips about local specialties.

We stayed here for one night, breaking our journey from the Channel down south and enjoyed the experience. The hotel is situated on a pleasant tree lined street just five minutes walk from most of Brive's main sites..(its not a large town). The place has obviously had a recent makeover so there's a very modern feel to the interior. Whilst its fine for a short stay however, I'm not sure I'd want to stay too long as despite paying an extra 10 euros for a larger room it was still somewhat on the 'compact' side. Crucially though, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean and stylish with an excellent shower. There is a car park opposite the hotel and certainly when we were there the hotel had an arrangement by which it was free for hotel guests. As we arrived on a Sunday many of the restaurants in town were closed for dinner but the receptionist gave us a list of those which would be open and recommended the 'Les Viviers St Martin' (subject of a separate review) which was superb. Breakfast the following morning was very good with a great array of fruits, yoghurts, ham and cheese in addition to super croissants and pastries. We really enjoyed our stay at Le Collonges and thought it excellent value. Would certainly return if in Brive again.

at the entrance everything seemed "normal" but already climbing the creaky carpet stairs to get to the first floor we had the first doubts about the choice, confirmed then by the corridor. carpeted with stained carpet (so everywhere even in the room), swollen and cracked and stained walls (so everywhere even in the room). we go to the room thinking now to be part of the remake of Shining, or you will unknowingly participate in a reality show, like "chasing ghosts". the door is the bottom one in the corridor and it opens with difficulty - perhaps because of the broken handle ?! - the smell in the room was stale, we immediately opened the shutters and the room came to us. under every standard of hygiene and presentation. indecent and unspeakable, but brave and above all tired from the journey we choose to stay. we wake up, a nice cold shower (an optional hot water) and we go down to have breakfast. Apparently we are not the only ones but the other guests are all French, it was to be expected. The breakfast is basic, the minimum proposed, then the surprise, was not included in the reservation and they ask us € 8 each, which we had not been told and was not specified. Before leaving, I explain to the owner everything I thought about the hotel, but she doesn't even mention an answer. 96 € in 3 people, for one night in the worst room ever seen. what pisses off is that probably everything is "normal" for them.

I loved this hotel! It’s in the centre of town and although it does not have its own parking there is some very close by. The thing that really made our stay was the receptionist, she was brilliant, I wish they could all be like her, so helpful and nothing too much trouble. Room not especially glamorous but there was plenty of room to put your “stuff” which always seems a problem. Hanging rail and cupboards. Nice walk in shower. Had a great view on the 6th floor. Complementary water was provided which personally I think every hotel should do. Highly recommend

For the price we paid we were happy. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good and relatively cheap (€10) considering you could help yourself too as much as you wanted. Just a couple of negatives though: in our room there were no plugs at the bedside to charge your phone over night, the only plugs were the other side of the room. Also the laminate floor through the room was badly fitted. Finally, and this is not the hotels fault, there isn’t a late night convenient store nearby - the closest was a good 10 minute walk away and that closed at 8pm the night we were there. The hotel had a bar and a few snacks but sometimes you need to buy a few things late at night if your travelling.

Staying in hotels as much as we do traveling for work, the boring aseptic chain hotels blur into obscurity. What makes a good hotel for me is character, value, a good night's sleep, the food and the staff. Le France is great value, clean, and the staff are always welcoming and helpful, smiles meet with smiles! If you want luxury, book elsewhere and pay the price, if you want to be able to find the bathroom with your eyes shut, book a chain hotel. If you want to meet real people, doing a great job and have a decent night's sleep and huge breakfast at a budget price, book here! There's even a garage for the car and a few restaurants on foot if you fancy a change, and the area is calm for around a station. Love it! Thanks everyone at Le France for looking after us :0)

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hotel Brive across the train station during our one night stop over. What a pleasant surprise to discover a nicely renovated bedroom with a small sitting area along with the nice size bathroom! Breakfast, which was included in our hotel stay, was one of the best ones we had this trip. We dined at the restaurant downstairs and enjoyed a very good dinner upon arrival. The hotel is walking distance to the lovely centre ville. Reception was friendly and gave us information about the places we wanted to visit. I would recommend this hotel.

This is the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Would be ok for one person but we are a couple. Hardly enough room to get in and out of bed. Had to move chair to enable me not to walk into it in the night. Quite noisy as doors are close together. However, it was very clean, good shower but tiny. Just as well there's AC as it would be unbearable in the summer in a tiny room. Breakfast was good at an extra cost €9 I think.

We booked this hotel as a stopover en route further south and had chosen one of the most highly rated in the area; unfortunately it didn't prove to be very enjoyable. Our room was one of the two mezzanine rooms which meant that the room itself was very small. The sitting area, on the ground floor had room for just two chairs and a small table, plus a short corridor which housed a fridge and cupboard containing a safe. The fridge didn't get very cold and the safe was locked: none of the staff knew how it worked as apparently it was new. In fact we didn't need it as the hotel was safe. Unfortunately the day we stayed it was extremely hot weather and, although the room was air-conditioned, the unit was badly sited so that the cool air blew down and the bedroom area was stiflingly hot. I was unable to even go into the area so we asked for a bed to be made up downstairs. The staff obligingly did this very quickly and I had a reasonably good night's sleep but it wasn't satisfactory to have to make do with a basic camp bed in a luxury hotel! What made this worse was the fact that guests had complained before as shown on previous reviews and, despite promising it would be rectified, nothing had been done. The hotel is situated out of town and doesn't provide meals, which entailed a return taxi journey of 30 euros. The grounds are uninspiring and contain no features such as pool etc, just a small terrace and grassed areas. Without doubt the one redeeming feature of the hotel is the staff who are absolutely lovely and cannot do enough for the guests. They are superb without exception and I trust they are paid well as they are worth their weight in gold. When we checked out I said I hoped I wouldn't be charged full price for this less-than-satisfactory stay and the bill was reduced by 20% which covered the cost of the taxi. However, I wouldn't recommend the hotel and think it is over-rated.

My husband and I stayed here recently for a nearby family wedding. This is a dated hotel in need of a refit, however the air conditioning was a life saver in the heatwave which coincided with our trip. Bed linen clean but only one towel changed each day. Tea and coffee tray not replenished we ended up buying our own teabags . I definitely would not recommend staying more than one or two nights . The best thing by far was the lovely breakfast and the most charming and helpful staff in the reception area.I was able to practice my French and speak English if necessary.

After a long trip from Toulon we reached Brive by 6pm. Roads were good and traffic light. Lovely countryside. Rather tired, but okay , we then spent an hour trying to find the hotel. In desperation we eventually visited the train station and asked for help. It turned out that the address on the official site was incomplete! With the revised address in the Sat Nav we eventually reached Ibis just after 7pm. The welcome was efficient, if a little brusque. The room clean but rather small. The evening meal in the nearby busy restaurant was nothing special. The buffet breakfast was adequate. Then on departure we raised the issue of the incomplete address. Apparently the hotel was aware of the problem - unbelievable. So, if you do visit make sure you put ‘ 3 Rue Armand Sourie’ in the SatNav. Maybe one day Ibis Management will listen to its junior staff. This was our first visit to an Ibis. On our journey south to the Med we used Campanile as usual. There was one next door - I expect their address was correct! So next stop Ibis Saumur. Will we find it? Here’s hoping.
