We had 1 night booked here as our final night of a 6 day cycling tour. In hindsight I should have booked an extra night as we totally loved both the city of Gijon and the hotel itself. Once we got our bearings everything was walking distance so location was great. Our room was comfortable and spacious, and the bathroom was clean and functional. The hotel is pretty big, but has retained some of the old charm with lots of pretty little details. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had breakfast included but we had to catch an early bus, we talked to the guy at reception and he was able to organise for us to have coffee and croissant even before they opened, very appreciative as we had a long bus trip back to Madrid.

Stayed here on a Saturday night in November. 50 euros via 3rd party site. Room fine, if rather dated. Check in very efficient (2 mins max). Location excellent. Paid 6 euros extra (via the site I booked with) for breakfast. Would have been better going to a local caff as only cold meats etc. + saw an advert in window of the hotel for 3 euro breakfast!

My wife and I explored the northern Spanish Atlantic coast this May and our second stop was Gijon. As I understand it, the traditional spelling of Gijon is Gixon where the X is pronounced as an H. This makes the pronunciation of the city, “Hee-Hon”. Anyway, we stayed at the Hotel Hernan Cortes for one night and enjoyed it very much. Our room was large, comfortable, clean and quiet. The staff were very helpful. In fact, my wife accidentally left her wedding band on the sink of our bathroom and we drove on to our next stop. About 40 km outside Gijon, she realized what she had done and called the hotel. The man she spoke with immediately went upstairs and retrieved the ring so that we could reverse course and return to fetch it. My wife was greatly relieved, and we were very impressed. The hotel is located a very short walking distance to Old Town Gijon where there are ample restaurants and things to see. Parking is a bit confusing, so I’ll explain. If you’re arriving by car, park in front of the hotel…even though that might appear to be parking on the street and/or the sidewalk. You’re actually parking on the sidewalk in a designated area and you can drop your bags inside the hotel. Then, drive down to the public parking facility (100m or so at the end of the street) and park. You will have a special rate of 10 euros per day at this facility and you should confirm with the concierge. Breakfast was good for what we eat in the morning. I don’t know if we got an off-season price, but the price we paid coupled with the quality make Hernan Cortes a good value and a nice place to stay in Gijon.

Ok Place. Older hotel. Good area for shopping and exploring, near, but not in, the historic district. The breakfast was very good for the price. But note that it is a continental breakfast only. Don't plan on eggs cooked to order. Just a note also that there is no air conditioning. This isn't really a problem most of the year, but just a note. Also, the elevator is small and their registration/security process requires you to leave the key on the first floor (second floor for Americans) when you go out and collect the key on that floor when you return. This means the small elevator (think about 1 person with a suitcase max) is really getting a workout and you will occasionally wait. Not a big deal though since the price is lower than most. Also just a note that as an older hotel, rooms are small and halls are narrow. Things like that. But I would certainly stay again, especially if looking in this price range.

We stayed here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The best thing about this hotel was definitely its location. It is situated right in the heart of the old town of Gijon and is close to many bars, restaurants and shops. It is also very close to the promenade and the small harbour which were great for a wee stroll. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They dealt efficiently and quickly with any of our requests and made our stay a very relaxed one. The continental breakfast was good with plenty of choice and the dining room had a relaxed and welcoming ambience. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable, our room didn't have a balcony or a very pleasant view but it was at the back of the hotel and was quiet as we had requested …except for one night when there was some noise from the residents opposite us. It was convenient to be able to park our hired car in the hotel's garage which was accessed via a lift. It was tricky initially getting the car into the lift and finding the hotel garage which was in a pedestrian precinct was also difficult as you had to cross a tiny square called the Plaza de Monte de Piedad. When we reached this small square we asked one of the locals where the hotel was and they were very helpful. I would stay in this hotel again as it was very good value and in a very good location.

I chose the silken Ciudad de Gijon for my christmas holidays as its not too far from my parents house in Gijón and the center. My husband and i stay for 6 nights, we cant fault the hotel in anything. Staff is very friendly, hotel is clean and rooms are quite big. (Maybe the only thing, carpets could be replaced). The jacuzzi donwstairs is great, most of the time we were on our own, or maybe another couple. Unfortunately the pool is freezing! We didnt have breakfast, but we used the gala cafeteria..that its quite good and no pricey. And next door, restaurante ébano does great breakfast for 6-9 €. It may look far from the center but in 10 minutes you are in the shopping area of Gijón. Great hotel and a very good price. Im sure we will be back. Muchas gracias a todo el personal

Fantastic location for beaches City touring, restaurants marina etc. The rooms are very comfortable clean and spacious with good size ensuite. Very good value for money. Not suitable for people with mobility problems so thought there is a good lift. You need to ask for the sitting room which is on the first floor. The sound proofing is awful. Could hear every conversation outside on the street. Even the snoring from next door was an issue. The cafeteria is very basic and not suitable for food at all. Very little choice for breakfast no menus on table and open daytime only. No machines for drinks or ice etc. No coffee or tea in the rooms. Although not the Hotel fault except for sound insulation, we arrived on Thursday evening and did not get a nights sleep till Sunday. The nightlife is very noisy with open air disco electric dance music booming accross the marina. Outside is a lovely area up to midnight. The the party people start all night till 6am and your noisy drunks outside even at 7.30 am. The location is wonderful except at weekends due to the above. The hotel has very outdated policies about guest visiting etc. Very good staff although very stern and not as friendly as they could be. Recommend with the above noted.

Although we requested a room with a walk-in shower and suitability for someone with mobility problems this did not occur. When checking in with our group, that had pre-ordered approximately 35 rooms, the majority of the room keys, electrical programming, were unable to open the hotel rooms. In our own case we returned no less than three times to reception to get the cards reprogrammed. This commotion took more than an hour to rectify during which time the hotel staff were extremely blasé with their reactions I interpret this to indicate this instant had often previously occurred. The meals together with the breakfast were of very basic in quality. The rooms were acceptable but the television showed only Spanish programs

Located on the outskirts of San Sebastian, the hotel is very quiet. On the back side of the building is a forest. In the morning, you can enjoy nature on the outdoor terrace with breakfast. Although there is a certain distance from the city, the traffic is very convenient, and the bus at the entrance leads to the downtown tourist area and the bus/train station. Arima's design style is very simple, the main environmental protection, but the spare parts including slippers and toothbrushes are directly provided in the room, and the quality is good. Although the room size is not large, the layout is reasonable. The shower, bath and toilet are completely separate, which is rare in European hotels of the same class. The curtains are all electrically controlled, adding some sense of technology. The hotel service level is good, the front desk is very welcoming and try to solve some small problems I have encountered (not the hotel fault). Perhaps the breakfast time is too busy, the restaurant staff is average. Room service is very fast, and everything you need is basically a second. Overall, the hotel is very cost-effective, very recommended ~

We had a misunderstanding on our bill having arrived a day late and left a day late. Stayed three nights. Booked it as it was the cheapest hotel on the seafront. The good: Nice period property, fabulous old lift (elevator), clean room, comfortable bed and aircon wasn't too noisy. Pleasant & friendly staff. Car parking worked well. The Bad: Compact room (not seaview - not expected as didn't pay for it), very compact bathroom, no hot water in the shower one evening, Noisy. Others have mentioned this and we experienced noise from above (had a heard of elephants moved in?), from outside (the quaint old lift was not engineered to be silent) and, worst, from the bathroom of the room above. When they flushed the toilet - boy we knew about it! So, it was adequate. The Hotel Ingles (next cheapest seafront hotel) was about another £40+ per night and we did wonder whether it would have been worth it. We concluded probably not as we don't spend that much time in the room itself. It depends what you want from a hotel.

I could write about the beauty of the interior designs, about the optimal treatment received, the unmatched terrace with its wonderful cocktail bar, or about the exceptional gastronomy offered on the ground floor restaurant, host of the only Michelin Star found in La Concha... but all this is outshone by the hotel room as you walk into it. As you walk through the doors you will literally be blown away by what you'll see. Your stunning room is hovering over the bay. A massive window that covers the whole wall will make you forget about everything, float over the sea and admire the indescribable charm of Spain's most beautiful bay. Laid in bed you will relish the scenery that will make it difficult for you to get up, and that you'll be able to continue gaze at as you shower. Your stay at Villa Favorita will give you the beauty of the Belle Epoque while having the 21st Century commodities. The few rooms with the exclusivity and the remarkable staff treatment, succeed at making you feel like a guest of one the magnificent villas that once graced La Concha. Villa Favorita, the last of these villas, rises from its ashes to make you dream of a time, exclusivity, and mannerism which nowadays are harder to find; a feeling that is hard not to define as absolute happiness.
