Pontos negativos: fiquei 6 noites: 4 em quarto compartilhado e 2 em privado. As instalações estão velhas, quebradas ou quebrando, utensílios de cozinha em péssimo estado de conservação, camas-beliche integradas, isto é, qualquer mexida que o colega de cima ou de baixo faz, reflete em você, quarto cheio de poeira e mal limpo, falta de espelho no quarto); falta de higiene e limpeza (roupa de cama manchada, com marcas de sujeira, lixeira no banheiro muito pequena para o número de usuários, geladeira com prateleira quebrada e cheiro ruim, quarto empoeirado, lockers sujos com pertences de outros hóspedes deixados lá, ausência de protetor de assento para vasos sanitários, suporte de rolo de papel higiênico, de bucha e sabonete quebrados); falta de tranquilidade para dormir (fim de semana, durante o dia, no centro histórico é muito parado porque o comércio está quase todo fechado, mas à noite é muito barulho na rua, o que se torna quase insuportável para dormir. Não há qualquer isolamento acústico); falta de qualidade no atendimento (de modo geral, funcionários que não dão assistência adequada - exemplo: falta de retorno para as suas solicitações, não orientar como você deve usar a bike que eles alugam - cobrar, eles cobram, mas orientar como você deve usar o freio para que não sofra um acidente usando apenas o freio dianteiro, não fazem. Falta preparo e treinamento para um atendimento melhor, ainda que não seja um hotel, como eles gostam de falar pra justificar a má qualidade na solução de problemas. Pedi pra trocar de cama e estou esperando me retornarem até agora - resolvi sozinha o problema com a cama - tive pertences roubados da geladeira e o que ouvi do hostel é que eles não se responsabilizam, afinal, aquilo é um hostel e não um hotel); falta de atividades de integração entre os hóspedes (uma das vantagens do hostel sobre qualquer hotel comum é a possibilidade de conexão com pessoas do mundo todo, mas o Viajero não as promove, é bem paradão).

Their staff are not trained properly and ruined our stay in Montevideo, don’t waste your money here there are plenty of better and cheaper hotels available. 1) The hotel lost our booking and blamed it on us, making us wait 30 mins at reception at 10pm at night for our room 2) The window in our room was broken, we informed them in the morning and when we came back to the hotel that evening we were informed we couldn’t open the window and it was slightly fixed but they would fix it tomorrow (no offer of compensation or apology) 3. The reception staff repeatedly ignored our phone calls when we were trying to clarify the room bill (I called at 15 min intervals for 1 hour so it was obvious they weren’t picking up our room) - never in all the hotels I have stayed at around the world have reception staff repeatedly ignored a room call, it is the worst service possible 4. They tried to charge us more than was originally agreed for our room at checkout and nearly made us miss our flight I have stayed in hotels all across South America and this was the worst service I have ever received - do yourself a favour and save the headache of the poorly trained staff and book another hotel.

|5.07km from city centerAs I checked in last Monday at the Aloft, Tobias Bradley, one of the Front Desk Managers, noticed it was my birthday. From then on, he made my stay, a very special one. When you’re away from home on a special occasion, it could feel very lonely, so, every single detail, was greatly appreciated. I also want to thank the rest of the staff, specially, Gustavo, at the restaurant, who always had a warm smile and a kind gesture. In addition, this hotel has a perfect location, in an upscale area at Punta Carretas, practically next to a big shopping mall, surrounded by great gastronomy, and a block away from Rio de la Plata. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for such a wonderful experience. I recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

|3.12km from city centerThis hotel is ideally located to walk to the central (shopping) and old historic parts of the city. It is also a short walk from the coastal ”rambla”cycle and promenade. Reasonably priced restaurant / bar and breakfast service - comes with 22% discount if you pay with a non-Uruguayan credit card (as do all restaurant in Uruguay). We had nice big room on an upper floor with views over the Rio de la Plata and the sunset (but only top floor rooms have balcony - you can access the rooftop terrace but there is not much there other than the view). Reception very helpful in organizing visits, taxis and bike hire (these are available on site). Only slight criticism was location of air conditioning in large rooms meant we didn't benefit from it in the sleeping area and, during a very hot spell, this was a problem. Would recommend staying here.

|5.19km from city centerI regularly visit Montevideo for academic business and Mercure Punta Carretas turned out to be the best accommodation I ever had in the Uruguayan capital. The location almost directly on the shore of the Rio de la Plata is very pleasant, there is a sea food restaurant open until late. The rooms of the Mercure are OK (nothing fancy but there is everything one needs), yet the quality of the stay is nonetheless outstanding. The breakfast buffet is delicious (homemade granola among other), there is a co-working space and a gym on the top floor. The gym is tiny, there is a complete set of dumbbells, a stationary bike and a yoga mat, all of quality but that's it. However, this is enough to throw in a good session while the view on the Plata is breathtaking. Last but not least, cheers to the friendly, helpful and absolutely trustworthy staff! Highly recommended.

The shower water pressure was incredible and the beds very comfortable! But the very best part of this hotel is the staff! I booked 2 rooms for 2 seperate nights and Andres at the front desk made it easy and kept us in the same room. Vanessa, Maximillian and the gentleman working with Andres in the evening made a tour to Punta del Este that we didn’t was possible, possible. Thank you all for your help! I will not ever even look for another hotel for my next stay in Montevideo. I will only stay at the Hotel Costanero! They went above and beyond and the location by the shore is perfect! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT

Not pleasant. The breakfast is fair enough. But had another issue. I asked for a fried egg and the waitress denied. “No more eggs”. A few minutes later a local guest asked and got it on a plate. As I questioned the double standard there was no understandable answer. Sad experience. At night the street are very dark around the hotel and there are plenty homeless people.

It is 6,7 kilometers away from the old city. In Uruguay, be sure to go to Punta del Este in the east corner and the small town of Colonia. These two places are much better than the capital and feel much better. They are all at the bus station. It is two hours to go to the east corner and two and a half hours to the town of Colonia. Both places are recommended to stay for at least one night.

|4.76km from city centerSuper well located and spacious rooms. That's only positive. I used the “parking” filter in the search of Booking.com , but in the 4 days we stayed, I never had vacation. And they didn't warn walk before I had to book. It's a swallow. It was easy to park on the street, and weak and unheard service in general. Rooms with maintenance to be desired : lime in the bathroom marble, air conditioned pinking and with water noise all the time, in the couple's room there was no edreddom, only a fine coat. At 10:30 p.m., the attendants ran to take away everything! Even with the full room, they took away everything! I saw not to replace after the time, but at the exact time they took away everything without even passing on the tables asking: everything with an industrialized face. They seem to have taken out of the packages and put them in the portions. The mosquito egg had a watery fluid and was cold, because the rechaud was always off. And if you ask for fridge eggs, the part is charged. Cold lingues with rechaud off tb. In short, I don't want to get back and pay. Please make it clear: wonderful location. Search another hotel in the same region.

It is in a great location on a great street with shops, cafes, and markets, with literally everything one could ask for, ...the Rambla is a very short walk away, as well as great restaurants and shopping. We immediately felt like we were part of the neighborhood and not “ tourists “...BUT...best of all was the staff at the hotel. It was our first time in Uraguay, our Spanish is non-existent and without exception, they could not have been more helpful. They arranged transportation for us with a local driver to show us around the city, who spoke enough English as well as arranged for transportation for longer trips. They gave advice on restaurants, places to see and , were cheerful and friendly. They made us feel like we were coming “ home” at the end of a day or evening out... The housekeeping staff cleaned the room very well and it was always finished when we came in. The rooms are spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable and it was quiet at night. We had one small issue that was attended to immediately...this is a hotel that truly cares about having their customers be comfortable and happy. I highly recommend Armon Suites and will stay there again.

The reception staff with which I check-out was the same as 24 hours before I managed the check-in, there was no question from her side except to confirm if it was really a check-out that was supposed to finish 7 days later. The room was not in line with the photos that were published and made me choose this site. Here I leave my own to serve as a reference to future potential customers.

|3.12km from city centerThe property was very conveniently located. It had a beautiful old-style, wrought iron elevator and a small but nice rooftop patio. The room also had some nice old-timey touches like the crown molding. The bathroom was a good size (compared to others we encountered on our SA adventures) and the shower had excellent water pressure. The receptionist who greeted us provided a map and lots of helpful advice about sights nearby. My friend enjoyed the coffee available near reception each morning. BUT, while beautiful, the elevator was ultimately very slow and sometimes didn't come at all. The furniture in the room showed some wear. While it fit with the antique-y theme, I probably would have removed some of it at that stage of dilapidation. Our room's bathroom when we arrived wasn't fully clean (there was hair on the floor and in the shower), and the waste basket's pedal opening mechanism was broken so it was awkward to use. We removed the wastebasket's top to make it easier for us (and hoping the whole thing would be replaced by housekeeping) but they just set the top back on (broken) in its inconvenient state again. And not the hotel's fault, but the entire 1.5 days we were visiting, one couple monopolized the rooftop deck - they and their belongings were spread out there every time we checked - so we didn't feel like we were welcome to use it.

|10.91km from city centerWe spent two nights in Alquimiste and we never wanted to leave! The guesthouse which is almost 100 years old is full of antique furniture, original artwork, and even has a lookout tower on the 4th floor boasting 360 views of the Carrasco neighborhood.
It is a 2 minute walk from the beach and very close to some of Montevideo’s most famous restaurants. Carolina and Mark are delightful and happy to help with anything.
The restaurant is lovely, and the breakfasts is a real treat. Hot croissants, freshly baked scones with marmalade and cream cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, and beautifully plated granola we’re just some of our favorites.
Staying at Alquimiste, you really feel like you are apart of something special!
