Part of me wishes I could keep this corner of Castellabate a secret so it doesn't become clogged with tourists, but I feel duty bound to tell others how much we loved it. We spent 3 nights in the Soffitta Blu (the blue loft), under the eaves of this wonderful old palazzo. The blue loft has a compact kitchen that closes up into what almost looks like a wardrobe, but it works. Wonderful bed. There's another one upstairs, but we didn't need it and didn't make the climb. The views out the windows toward the Mediterranean are stunning, and you're at the height where the birds fly. The suite is comfortable and lovingly appointed. It's a surprise to find AC in a historic building, and a real relief after hot summer days spent exploring the coast. We were lucky to find a parking spot just outside the front door, and we spent many hours sipping coffee or aperitifs and reading our books at a table in the charming and shady piazzetta (small piazza), where the soft breeze and the tempo of life makes you never want to leave. Communication with Monica was immediate, friendly and clear. And Adele took great care of us onsite.

We‘ve often stayed at the old hotel, it has the best position and views in Castellabate, despite being a bit run down it had a warm friendly atmosphere and was renowned for it’s sumptuous breakfasts and excellent food. Excited to see that the hotel was being renovated six of us booked a three week stay. They have spent a year and vast amounts of money renovating it, and it does indeed look magnificent, but it’s all just superficial gloss. The new owner was only there three times in as many weeks ( once to gratuitously serve us a welcome drink and snack and then she disappeared ) she never engaged with or asked us if we were happy with everything, we were practically the only guests there. There is no manager to oversee anything and the teenage staff, although very sweet, are totally inexperienced untrained and unsupervised. BREAKFAST: An extravagant promotional party was underway when we arrived: at breakfast the next morning there were huge impressive bowls of strawberries and cherries, but we soon realised they were only the leftovers from the previous nights party; from then all we had was LOTS of cakes, a few croissants, a minute bowl of yoghurt, mouldy fruit, sometimes bread, no jam just lemon marmalade ( but home made ) and the store bought juice was watered down. The nervous staff had no idea how to even make a coffee. We didn't want just cakes for breakfast so we asked if maybe we could have some tomatoes, ham, cheese, fresh fruit and bread?…….. A few slivers of cheese and some cheap ham and salami did appear, occasionally there were a few tomatoes, often no bread and the same old mouldy fruit day after day…..After a few days of this we just went out and bought our own mozzarella, ham, tomatoes strawberries and cherries…their breakfast never did improve. THE RESTAURANT:….well it was mostly empty but we did want to try it as we thought the chef was the same fantastic one we knew from before;.. some of the antipasto were good but the pasta was cold.. and we could see why…the new trendy chef was larking around in the kitchen on his phone taking pictures. There was no wine list, no one knew even knew how to open a bottle and and the menu displayed on the board upstairs was different from that actually offered. The sheets were only changed after 6 days, we had to ask for soap and toilet paper to be replaced. The front desk is not maned 24hrs as advertised: My room was the only one with wi fi that worked.( close to the front desk) Fortunately we can manage basic Italian because only one 17 year old spoke any English. The hotel had only opened for it’s first summer season in April, we found it very strange indeed that after spending a small fortune, for three weeks, there was no owner or manager around to check and see how it was being run.....

We visited as a mixed group, one family and two friend and we occupied 3 rooms, one double, one triple and one single. The rooms are generally well appointed and 2 were facing the sea with a really magnificent view. Wifi is available throughout the hotel. The staff was courteous and efficient, we would like in particular to mention Chiara, the property manager, who went out of her way to make our stay amazing organizing visits to a vineyard (spectacular) and to a bio farm were the local mozzarella cheese is produced. We are also thankful to Adolfo, the owner, that for us organized a boat trip at sunset to the nearby island of Licosa and offered us an excellent bottle of local sparkling wine. The hotel has a very good restaurant too. We dined in one nigh and we really enjoyed the specialties of the Cilento region, the fresh sea food and the way in which vegetables are prepared (the eggplants and zucchini in particular). We all enjoyed our visit to Cilento and our stay at Il Cefalo. Congratulations guys, you made us to feel welcomed.

Just returned from a lovely two week stay at the Palazzo Iaquinto. The owner Giovanni picked us up from the airport and drove us down. He brought with him delicious pastries as we had very early flight and had no breakfast. A nice touch. The palazzo is an old sympathetically restored building. Our apartment was huge, airy and well decorated and furnished. Great view looking over the beach. Comfortable beds, nice linens, fresh towels, daily maid service. Bathroom had huge wet room as well as a bath. All very clean and well maintained. Small modern kitchen, not that we used it much as so many good places to eat, apart from the fridge to chill wine and water. Breakfast is included which included croissants, rolls, cakes cereals and fruit. Good coffee too, just help yourselves. We like the privacy of an apartment to a hotel. The owners were very friendly, helpful and there everyday if you did need anything. A lift takes you right down to the beach. Near shops, places to eat and drink. We found it a very, easy relaxing place to stay. Love to return soon.
