I had originally booked Hotel Solar De Las Animas for my four-night stay in Tequila. At the last minute a friend suggested I stay at a new boutique property in town Casa Salles. A long time fan of Relais & Chateaux, my friend and I ventured over one evening to check out the hotel and to have an aperitivo. I wanted to see the hotel so I could consider it for future stays. At 7 PM on December 30 we entered the hotel and were immediately sled but the two people slouching on chairs at the front desk if we were guests and when we said no we were turned away; that we were not allowed at the bar. I might add we were well dressed and well mannered. I head to Relais & Chateaux properties more for the gracious service than anything else. The rude reception of the two front desk staff who didn’t even bother to rise from their chairs when we walked in made me glad that I stayed else elsewhere. First impressions are everything. Casa Salles provided the service level of Relais & Chateaux so I’m glad I listened to my friend.

We stayed in this hotel for one night during a short trip to Tequila. The room was clean with AC and a decent shower and water was provided in the lobby. The bed was small for two people and the pillows and mattress were covered with a crinkly material which was a little annoying. Staff didn’t seem to speak any English so I’m not sure how we would have managed without our Spanish speaking relatives. The location is perfect, just a few blocks off the main square and the hotel has a very charming appearance. Would recommend this hotel.

We stayed one night in the town of Tequila Mexico about an hour west of Guadalajara. We wanted to complete a Tequila making/tasting tour. We chose Rubio for our single night stay. This is a very honest review that might help you decide if this is the place for you. This is a place I was willing to stay one night but, probably not more. The room ran me about $55US and I feel this was a reasonable price for the stay. It was about 1/3 of the next place because it was a busy weekend. The location. This hotel is within walking distance of most of the distilleries and el centro. This is a fun happening town in the evenings and we had a lot of fun and never had to drive. You are within comfortable walking distance from anything you want to do. We left our rental vehicle in the hotel courtyard which was secure and closed from the street right next to our room. If you check in later in the day, make sure that you walk to el centro in the evening. Its completely safe with plenty of lights and many families out enjoying the evening. The Pools. We noticed lots of birds using the pools as ponds and decided that these were not something we wanted to share. The pools were cloudy but look good in their pictures. We tested the water and it was very cold. The Wifi. Concrete rooms pretty much prohibit the wifi from working in the rooms but it works in the courtyard. It’s actually fairly quick once you are connected The resort. The AC worked great in our room. The bathroom and shower were very small and dimly lit with a single bulb hanging from the ceiling. The shower took a fairly long time before hot water is available but eventually it was hot. I am fairly certain that you should only drink bottled water within this facility. My youngest son discovered this the very next day. No big deal because there are pharmacies everywhere. Check in was a little odd. The young adult manager did not have any interest in being here. Not a concern for me since I would rather have self check-in anyway. They hand you the TV and AC remotes. The return of these is also your way of checking out. Plaza Rubio met my needs for a good night of rest and proximity to nearby restaurants and distilleries. Let me know if this was helpful in making your decision. Our next Mexico trip is probably Cabo and then Mazatlan. Follow if you want updates regarding those locations.

I was just there for one night with two of my friends we got the tequilana room which was just above reception and that made us feel more safe since we were planning to come back late at night and we were 3 girls. The check in was so quick and smooth, as I was parking my car (very good and safe parking) the already had my reservation out and just needed my signature and some additional info. We didn’t have the chance to try the pool or sauna but we honestly regretted it. On Saturday’s there’s bohemian nights. We had a buffet breakfast on sunday morning and it was delicious. Excellent customer service, will definitely come back again!

Dog friendly, clean, kind owners and staff, excellent full breakfasts included. The jacuzzi tub was a fun surprise! The wifi was a little weak, but available. There is no Uber in Tequila so the staff would call a taxi for us whenever we needed it. Great inexpensive stay and our dog was super happy!
