I am a Lifetime Platinum member of the Marriott Rewards program, so I have stayed in hundreds of Marriott properties over the past 30 years. I have only been disappointed two times, and both of those were since Marriott acquired Sheraton. The most recent was at the Sheraton in Duluth, MN. The hotel shows evidence of a fairly recent facelift. The lobby and restaurant area, as well as the gym and pool were very nice. Our room overlooked Lake Superior and was also nicely appointed. We were only given one washcloth for two people for two nights. We requested an additional washcloth twice, but it never came. The worst experience was the shower. There were multiple spots of mold on the tile walls, and very significant mold across the threshold of the shower door (see photos). We reported this to the front desk, in person, shortly after we arrived. It was not corrected by the time we checked out two days later. There was no housekeeping visit to our room during our stay, and we were not informed that this would be the case. At most Marriott properties you have the option to decline housekeeping for short visits, but we were not given the option, nor informed that the room would not be made up during our stay. The air conditioning in the room was incredibly noisy. During the night it would kick in about every 15 minutes. It sounded like a jet taking off, then once it got up to speed it was like a cloths drier full of BBs. Because of a wedding and other events they were unable to move us to a different room. The front desk staff, and the servers in the restaurant were very pleasant and as helpful as they could be. The two breakfasts we had in the restaurant were very good. The hotel does provide free parking in an attached ramp. With a little bit of elbow grease and bleach, along with better linen services, this could be a very nice hotel, but I don't think we'll be going back.

My 9 year old son and his hockey team stayed at the hotel. We were forced to saty there; the Tournament gets a $40 per room, per night kick back from the hotel. This was my son's first Out of Town Tournament ever, and his team of 13 kids wasn't allowed to swim together. They have an 8 kid limit because of COVID despite the fact wearing a mask and social distancing is now a personal choice vs. Gov't mandate. And the kids were only allowed 1 hour per day of pool time. We got a noise complaint at 8pm on a Friday night. The whole hotel stay was set up to fail with the staff being incredibly rude before we even arrived. We got several nasty emails and a text message about all the hotel rules, sent after we given our deposit. The best part is that once we put the kids down, the bar closed, they closed the lobby before 10pm and they closed the team room at 10:30pm. While Canal Park is about a mile away, we cant leave our sleeping kids in a hotel. And to eliminate all indoor gathering areas is completely unacceptable. It was cold and raining, and they still would NOT turn on the fire pit outside. The expectation was for all adults to go to bed at 10:30pm on both Friday and Saturday night. Bottom line, is this hotel is corrupt and "in-bed" with the local sports tournaments. They get kick backs from the tournament so that teams are forced to stay there. Its called a "Stay to Play" Tournament and shouldn't be legal. And they know you're a hockey team with young kids, so they treat you like garbage before ever setting foot on campus. I left similar feedback directly with the hotel but never heard back. If you're coming up with a team - DO NOT STAY HERE. If you're just looking for a place to stay in Duluth, careful as they are forcing people to stay here and our hotel was over 90% 9 year old kids and families running around looking to have a good time.

This Super 8 hotel was a "Super" experience for my wife and I. The staff were all "Super" - a great mix of professionalism combined with a "Super" friendly customer attitude. The room was "Super" clean and very quiet for a great night's sleep. The breakfast area had "Super" selection of individually wrapped breakfast sandwiches, cereals, yogurts, all complimented with a "Super" selection of different coffees. We will definitely return to stay there on our next venture.

I always try to find a La Quinta wherever we go, decent prices, pet friendly, breakfast and I have never had a bad experience with them. The La Quinta in Duluth however, was in a class by itself. The staff made everything easy. They were able to answer all my questions and guide me for things to do. The breakfast was actually really good, probably the best I have had at a hotel for a long time. Family staying at another hotel at 2.5x the price didn’t have as great of an experience with staff or facilities. I would definitely stay here again!

Make no mistake. This property gets an average rating because there are some great things about it and some awful things. Nothing here is actually average. Great: - They are genuinely pet-friendly; accepted our 80lb lab mix with no additional charges, and that is much appreciated. - Location - near the Miller Hill Mall; 8-10 mins from downtown Duluth; 5 mins from Duluth International Airport and airbase. - Easy check-in and check-out - Affordability - a very reasonable price. Poor: - Musty rooms - Air conditioner / heater mounted so high you need the chair to set the temperature (in a handicap-accessible room, for god's sake), and when it runs it sounds like you are inside a machine shop. Overall, it's passable - just barely - if you are spending a night for a bed and a shower. Not worth it as a destination. A special mention: ...must be made about their parking lot. I am not exaggerating when I say unequivocally that it's the worst I have ever seen in 35 years of travel. It looks like the F-16s from the nearby base use it for target practice, as it will bottom out many small cars and could cause suspension damage. The outrageous part was that it's been like this for YEARS, and the fact that management has not addressed this relatively simple issue is insane.
