We stayed at the Hotel Kastanienhof for six nights. We really enjoyed this East Berlin neighborhood with lots of activity, close-by transportation, and interesting shops. Our hotel room was good sized and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The shower pressure was good. The room had a kettle for hot water and I was given a fan upon request. Leeria at the reception desk was very helpful and kind. Unfortunately, on the way to the airport, I realized that I had forgotten a pair earrings (not expensive, but one-of-a-kind) and since we were traveling with another couple, we couldn’t return. I called Leeria (I hope my spelling is correct.) and she ran up to the room and found the earrings. Beate, from the hotel then sent me an email to let me know that the earrings were in the mail. And, indeed, they arrived today. What lovely ending to our stay at Hotel Kastanienhof in Berlin! I highly recommend this hotel and will always be grateful to the kind folks who work there.

We spent 5 nights inThe Circus Apartments. We had booked a Duo Economy room, but that had been re-allocated, so we were upgraded to the Schroeder Duo apartment on the 1st floor (at no extra cost). This is the second time we have stayed in Circus Apartments and both times have been excellent. The apartment was spacious and nicely decorated, with a very good supply of kitchen utensils and crockery. There is a full-size cooker and oven, microwave and fridge. A free laundry is located in the building basement. The bed was very comfortable and the apartment is quiet. This apartment also has a balcony with chairs and table. The only minor drawbacks were that the shower rose could not be adjusted sufficiently to avoid splashing a considerable amount of water on the bathroom floor, and the lighting in the living area is quite dim. All staff we encountered were cheery and very helpful. The apartment location is good, being not too far from public transport stops, supermarket and other shops, and the local area is pleasant and interesting for a walk around. It is also easy to work out suitable routes to go for a run. We highly recommend Circus Apartments.

Fantastic location next to a U-Bahn stop - even though the address is a busy road, the hotel itself is located in a back courtyard and is amazingly quiet with no street noise at all. The larger rooms have a kitchenette and a balcony overlooking the courtyard. Friendly and helpful staff. The only things that weren't perfect was the shower, it's very shallow and only has a curtain, so it takes some skill to avoid flooding the bathroom floor. The bathroom fan was very noisy and went on for ages. There was no Do not disturb sign, so Housekeeping came in when I wasn't ready. I didn't have breakfast because there are enough cafes and bakeries in the area, bt it looked very nice and you can eat at tables in the courtyard if the weather is good.

Stayed at OTA Berlin with my husband and two sons (18 and 16). We booked a studio apartment and it was a perfect base near the city for us. Huge apartment with two single beds and a double, beautiful high ceilings and very light and bright. The kitchen was very well equipped so we were able to cook breakfast every morning. We were at the back of the building, facing into the courtyard so street noise wasn’t an issue for us, although there was a very rowdy crowd staying on our last night, shouting out in the courtyard until all hours and again early in the morning. The apartment is only a 10 minute walk to Alexanderplatz and there is a U Bahn station less than five minutes walk away. There’s also a supermarket, bakery and pharmacy all nearby. We were on the third floor and there is no lift so you really get a workout! There was broken glass in the hallway on the second morning we stayed and it was still there two days later. We had been instructed on check-in to drop the two keys in the letter box in the hall when we were checking out. However as we were leaving we met an elderly man sweeping the stairs who insisted we give him the keys, I tried to explain that we would drop them in the letter box, as instructed, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer so we hesitatingly handed them over, hoping he was an employee!! The only thing that bothered me about the apartment was that there was no sign of any fire safety equipment anywhere in the building, apart from a fire blanket next to the cooker. No sign of a fire extinguisher or fire hose anywhere in the apartment or in the public areas, I was surprised that an apartment could be rented out to the public without stringent fire regulations? Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable stay.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in the hostel (if you can call it that, its way swankier!) for 4 nights recently. We booked a double room with shared bathroom. We checked in early and as the Hostel was quiet being early jan we got straight into our room at about noon which was really convenient for us. The room was spacious for a hostel, with a console are to hang clothes, put toiletries on and books etc. At the end of the bed was a stool and a seating area with a table attached to the bed so we could have a drink and look out the window. he bed itself was a raised platform with the (comfy) mattress sunken into it, almost like a Japanese style bed. I had no problems with this but my BF having. bit of a bad back did struggle to get up for a pee at 3am! The rooms decor was modern and stylish with nice big mirror. It was a bit dark for doing makeup/contact lenses so I usually went to the shower room. The toilets and showers were plenty and very near, the ladies for me was right outside our door. The shower and toilets were impeccably clean. We rented towels for 1 euro each. The location is great, you're right on the M8 and M1 tram with a Ubahn outside too. you've got a direct line to Hauptbahnhof too. The surrounding Rosenthaler Platz had small late shops for chocolate bars and beers and a great Turkish place we got delicious Kebabs!

Wonderful stay. The apartment is located in the best are of Berlin and the courtyard is simply beautiful and translates the lifesytle of the neighbourhood. The staff is always available and they are so professional and organised. The building is so charming, you have the best cafes and restaurants within a walking distance and also a tram and the underground. The terrace is the cherry on the cake, and is very special to overlook the famous TV tower whilst on the bed or having a glass of wine. I was impressed with everything and felt completely like a local. Alexanderplatz is so easy to access and you have a beautiful park nearby for a morning walk. Will definitely come back and very happy with COSI! Thank you!

ZARENHOF HOTEL & APARTMENTS, FRIEDRICHSHAIN, BERLIN Well located in a lively & cosmopolitan part of Berlin (formerly part of East Berlin). Transport links (tram / bus/ S bahn / U bahn ) are excellent to all parts of the city. Many bars & restaurants reflecting many countries (eg Italian / Asia + German etc) are very near the hotel. The hotel is relatively small & offers very comfortable & clean accommodation. Rooms are a good size & furnished in the style of Imperial Russia before the Russian Revolution. Some rooms have small kitchenettes with microwave, refrigerator, coffee making machine & kettle etc. The hotel is quiet with good heat & noise insulation. There is a laundry service & alcoholic drinks are available in the evening (tea & coffee available all day). A good breakfast is served every morning with a special Tsar’s Breakfast at the weekend. The housekeeping & reception staff are excellent. All the receptionists (including people like Melina, Annegret, Krystyna) are friendly, helpful & excellent linguists. They come from all over the world (Italy, Croatia, Argentina, Sweden, Germany etc) and make guests feel very welcome. I stay at this hotel every time I visit Berlin. Vielen Dank und bis bald!

We got an upgrade to an apartment with was not on te corridor of the hotel, but after the emergency exit in the regular hallway of the building. It was a very spacious, nice and historical apartment with high ceilings. But this is the only reason I gave 3 stars, because there are a lot of negative aspects regarding the service. First of all, the breakfast was bad. Second, one of the towels we received after the cleaning had a huge, gross stain on it. Third, the kitchen of the apartment smelled like someone smoked in it A LOT. All in all, I won't be staying here the next time I am in Berlin.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the start of October. On arrival we waited for about 5 minutes at the reception until they even acknowledged we were waiting, no hello or anything. During our 3 night stay we only got one welcome, which isn’t good customer service. When receiving room cards there was no number on it or a card to tell us what number it was, we just had to make sure we heard them correct. The bedroom was a good size with a good bathroom and plenty of storage space. The bed wasn’t very comfortable, it was hard and there was one measly pillow when asked at reception if we could get more we were instantly told no, in that case they need to buy new pillows that are substantial or have spares. During the night there was often loud noises out on the street which was a little frustrating but couldn’t be helped. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. There was also a stand with information leaflet of what to do around the city. After the overall service I don’t think I will be returning to this hotel.

TL;DR: I forgot (God knows how) to cancel a 14 days stay at Carolinenhof Hotel. I notified them on the day of my scheduled arrival .I begged them to charge me 2, 3 or 4 nights but they refused and charged me *90% of the entire 14 days stay* - 662€. I had planned a trip to Berlin to meet a dear friend who now lives in Central America. We didn't know if his apartment will be big enough for the two of us, so I booked 2 hotels on Expedia. When he got his place we decided I could stay with him, and I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO CANCEL the hotels. I can’t explain why. I am usually a very responsible person, but this slipped out of my mind into a black hole. I realized I have these reservations in berlin on july 10, the day I was supposed to check in. Called Expedia immediately, and they said they would try to help. They talked to the first hotel – which kindly charged me for two nights and that was the end of it. Carolinenhof refused to Expedia’s request made on my behalf so I went there myself. I talked to two executives, who didn’t even bother to introduce themselves to me (no name tags). They told me they simply have to charge this amount and there is no debate about it. They scolded me for being irresponsible and kept explaining I had signed and agreed to this policy and this is it. I practically begged, at that time in tears, to be “fined” for 2, 3 or 4 nights – but not 90% of 14 nights. I told them it is unfair, and that I understand that this 90% cancellation policy makes sense when it comes to a weekend stay, but not two whole weeks (in July). I told them again and again that I made a mistake and fully understand that I should pay for it – but so much money is not fair. I was 2 days late canceling a 14 days stay, not a 4 days stay. If I had canceled only two days before, they wouldn’t charge a cent. When I told them I was a school teacher and can’t afford to give away 662€ for nothing, they said that a school teacher should know better and that I set a bad example to my students. They, of course, didn’t want to hear about the other hotel’s conduct with me. BTW, I asked them if they would apply this policy to a month’s stay and they answered “yes” without hesitating. I also asked If I had stayed here for a week and then tell you my plans have changed and I have to go in 2 days, I’m sure you would have said “thanks you for your stay with us” and not charge me for the entire stay? But they assured me that they would, that if a person has to cut his stay short they charge him for the full time, even with a two days’ notice before leaving, and I think anyone making reservation with them should know this. I was also told that people like me cause hotels financial damage – just the other day some businessmen booked 5 very expensive rooms and didn’t show up, and the hotel didn’t have their credit cards or anything and lost a lot of money. I said that this story makes me all the more frustrated, because I realize now I am paying for those missing bu

We booked this for 2 nights as were seeing pink in concert. Its 3 stops away on the underground and around 15 minutes from the city the other way. It’s a fab hotel 16 euros in a taxi from Teigel airport. We booked breakfast separately and were so pleased we did as it’s really Good value. We are in room 57 which has its own private balcony and amazing views of the city. The bathroom has a hairdryer shower gel and moisturiser all there for you to use, which is helpful to know when you are limited with liquids travelling with easy jet. There is a Fab bar and nice restaurants Close by. The receptionist was very helpful in giving information on where to visit in Berlin. You can buy your underground ticket there as well.

Top-notch location; a fun & quirky atmosphere. Overview: The Circus Hotel is probably the elder, soberer & refined sibling of the probably more recognized Circus HoStel. Property & Room: Located at the junction of Rosenthaler Platz, it's about a 15-minute tram ride from the Berlin HBF and is located close to many restaurants, & bars and is probably not the most touristy part of the city - which is a good thing! The reception is unassuming but intimate and on the ground floor along with their famous bar & restaurant (unfortunately didn't try either). The pathways in the hotel for some reason, best known to the Europeans and Scandinavians, are dim, if not out-rightly dark. But once you do manage your room (YOUR room), it's a typical theme continues - while not the best lit, still unique and quirky. The smallish-medium sized room was well appointed. The sole window provides a glimpse of the Berlin TV tower and their verandah. There were a couple of storage areas, a coffee table with 2 chairs along with a small Bose boombox and the works. The bathroom, though also smallish was clean and well designed. We got a room facing the inner veranda, so was quiet. Assuming the rooms facing the road may be a little noisier. F&B: Unfortunately we didn't try any of their F&B offerings, however, we did go to their other dining outlet at the Hostel (which expectedly has a younger & livelier vibe) for breakfast (while basic, still a steal for EUR 5 - it's unlimited and healthy) and to their bar too (in the hostel) - the folks at the hotel's reception gave us a few vouchers to try their brewed beers in the hostel's bar - which were really awesome! But the place has multiple dining options - across all cuisines & budgets. Please do try to visit the 24x7 Rosenthaler Grill & Schlemmerbuffet for excellent Middle Eastern food and with oodles of character Service & Amenities: Limited scope to experience either, but some highlights: - really friendly, pleasant & helpful folks at the hotel (and hostel's) receptions - some amenities are indeed quite top-notch like the Bose Bluetooth boombox, etc. Overall: All-in-all, a very well located hotel, with good rooms, a very chic vibe & lots of character and as importantly well-priced (but yes, please do improve the internal lighting!).

visited Berlin for 5 days and stayed at Alcatraz, loved the hostel, got put into a 4 person room even though we paid for 8 person but wasn’t a problem at all! Kitchen and dining area are great with all the facilities you’d need. There is WiFi in the hostel but unfortunately it doesn’t reach the bedrooms which is a shame but we weren’t in there much so it didn’t matter massively! I had a very nice stay in this lovely hotel. The design is modern yet warm and the personal is very kind. Rooms are quite affordable. Unusual but not unplesant, the shower faces the bed. A free access to the wifi is provided. For a very reasonable price, you can have a nice breakfast (large choice). For dinner, you can eat thai food at the hotel restaurant. Prices are quite correct too and the service is fast. Last thing I liked, you can access to the wellness area with no extra charge (notice that nakedness is tolerated, it is usual in Germany and doesn't bother me). To sum up, this hotel is a very good choice if you plan to stay in this area of Berlin.

Quiet relaxing atmosphere, very convenient prices, located near a bus station where buses come regularly and transfer passengers to central Berlin. The rooms are quiet, wide and clean. The staff members are very friendly but no one is in the reception after 11 pm so if you arrive later, you should have your reservation code to take your keys or call them on phone to make your key available. The hotel is located less than 5 mins from the train station but in the room we had you couldn't hear it. So clean which is nothing unusual in our experience of the Motel One chain but in the current climate I believe they're going above and beyond to ensure guest safety to all practicable standards. Staff were very friendly and helpful, we had information from the receptionist about train travel and we used the guest lounge a couple of times and the staff there were courteous and cheerful despite having to wear masks constantly. I have to admit we look now for a Motel One wherever we stay as we've used them for a couple of years now and never had a bad stay. The rooms are functional, if a little sparse in places for clothes. The bathrooms are clean and a good size and so far all have had good showers in them. Plenty of information sent out when we booked given us the details of the cleaning regime and what was expected from us in the current situation and what we could expect in terms of differences to the 'norm'.

My friends and I stayed here over new year. There were 4 of us and the apartments were perfect for our stay. Really helpful, friendly staff available via what’s app if needed. They respond quickly and are very happy to help with any questions. Clean and modern, really nice bathroom with powerful modern shower and heated flooring. All appliances you need to make/cook small items. Just perfect if your visiting the city for a few days and want your own space and a few home comforts rather than being in a hotel. Neighbours, who were permanent residents, were really nice too. Came over to introduce them selves and check if we were with young children as they were having a New Year’s Eve party. Very considerate. Location is great. Literally a 30 second walk from the metro. If you walk down the street about 5 minuets there are loads of bars, restaurants, cafes, grocery shops. It is a small modern hostel with four rooms. We stayed (family with teenager) in 4-beds room with bathroom and refrigerator, quite spacious, with large dinning table. There is a shared kitchen, well equipped, with tea, coffee, oil, spices, you can use. Host (David) was very kind and helpful. There is a free parking all around the hotel, there was no problem finding free space (right in front of our window). Large maerkets and petrol stations near by. Excellent public transport (tram and bus) connection with the centre. Neighborhood is OK. Hostel is on the ground floor, and rooms facing the street can be a bit noisy in the morning, but not that much that it ould be something too disturbing.

As one of the cheaper hotels in Berlin, I wasn't expecting that much, however it was certainly pleasant. The room was impeccably clean and well equipped with a fridge, sink, hair dryer etc. The staff, particularly the woman on reception when I arrived, were very nice and helpful too. One small problem is the fact that my room, as well as a few others, opened pretty much directly onto the lobby, so it can be fairly noisy, particularly in the morning. Also, I was oddly awoken one morning by the window shutter automatically opening! Although I said my room was clean when I arrived, it wasn't cleaned subsequently during my stay, and neither were the bed linin nor towels changed. Overall a nice enough hotel, that will be excellent if a few problems are ironed out.

We were looking for a bar to watch a football game and decided to pass by this hotel and asked. A person, who we think is the Manager, told us that the bar has Tvs and we could turn on the cable in order for us to watch the game. It was very nice from their part, even a lady in the office told him the info about the game and the channel. We had some drinks which prices were average; the bartender was always on top of everything, very nice people and excellent service. We did feel that even though we were not hotel guests, they did care about us; can you imagine the quality service for hotel guests is? It has to be excellent!. We highly recommend this hotel.

Green but not so city. The main downside I see is the distance from the city centre. See below for my tip on getting to the hotel. Do NOT use Google Maps instructions. Value for money in terms of room size, price, reasonable spread for breakfast  How to get there  Followed Google maps and I ended up alighting at a further station called Altglienicke and it takes 15 minutes. The nearest station is Grunau and it is less than 5 minutes walk away. What's more? One can shop and eat along the way. As I came from the central station called Hauptbahnhof on the S9 line, I changed at Adlershof. As Adlershof is a single platform station, one just merely wait on the same platform for the next train towards Zeuthen.  Buying stuff like fruits and other essentials  Incredibly, there are 3 supermarkets within a 50m radius in front of the hotel. Two supermarkets are adjacent left and right of the hotel.  Eating places  If you are into Asian food, look for Cua Tung Bistro. Reasonably priced and standard of cooking is good. FYI, I ordered sea food fried rice.  Room All the basics are there. Room size is spacious with sufficient space and hangers in the closets.  The main complaint is the single bed when the room could easily fit in a queen. The uncarpeted floor suited me perfectly. There's even a kitchette corner to prepare food with its own sink. The only thing missing is a microwave. Shower area was designed without a door. Hence, expect a puddle of water to remain outside of the shower area.  Interestingly, the mirror in the toilet was created such that it is one big tile further in than usual.  Breakfast. Pay EUR7.90 and one gets the usual bread, scrambled eggs, fruits, yogurt, tea or coffee, etc. Hours are from 6 - 10am for weekdays and 7 - 11am for weekends. The downside is the noisy radio program (mostly talk and advertisements) that one has to endure and eating in a very industrial setting. If only we could have some quietness in the morning at 6am.

A great hotel in a central location. The breakfast was great, although the atmosphere was pretty noisy taking into account the huge number of people staying at the hotel. The only disadvantage is that for parking I was not able simply to drive into the parking garage, although it says that no prior reservation is needed, so I suppose I had to call the hotel in advance and tell them I'm coming with a car. So I would advise Ctrip to update this part of the information. Nevertheless, if you want to pay 10€ instead of the 22€ a day for parking in the hotel's parking garage, you can consider the parking area at Gleisdreieck, which is around 5 minutes on foot from the hotel.

I stayed here for 4 nights the week leading up to the CV shutdown. This was easy to find a matter of metres from the rosenthaler plaza underground station. It’s a matter of a ten minute brisk walk into Alexanderplatz so is a central location for walking and getting to all the relevant attractions and stations from the hotel. The hotel itself is lovely, it has a great welcome with staff speaking very good English and pleasant with it. It did not appear to be that busy as the CV may of had something to do with that being an issue all over the city. The rooms are on 7 floors with an average of 9 rooms per floor. They are perfect for a short stay like we were doing. Air con, mini bar, table and chair, a fresh supply of toiletries daily etc. The beds were very comfortable albeit that’s a personal thing, freshly made each day and clean with a modern feel in the room. The room and hotel in general has a diverse arty feel with pictures like I have shown in the foyer of the reception area. We did not eat in the hotel and can’t comment on the food etc however it was always full and busy which says a lot of locals are making the effort to eat here. All in all the hotel was a fabulous location with great helpful staff and fantastic rate paid for the quality we received. I would certainly stay here again and entertain the other hotels the group have one being directly around the corner from this one. A clean a well respected establishment and would recommend this to you all. You get your moneys worth with a little diverse art thrown in. Go for it you won’t regret it.

I booked a weekend away with my partner at this hotel and booked the room which had the games machine in it. We got there and it wasn’t in the room... Then the AC stopped working and I tried to call the front desk but the phone wasn’t working. So I went down to the front desk to ask for a handyman and the lady told me that a handyman would hopefully be up soon. We waited for 40 mins and I then had to walk back to the reception to be told by someone else that a handyman would not be coming but I would have to change rooms at that time of the evening. This is unacceptable. The staff was friendly so I can’t complain about their attitude. But this is still unacceptable. We got up at 11pm and drove home. And to add, this is a hotel with means there will be tourists there. Tourists usually don’t speak German. Why are all the tv stations in German?!

I went here in early September together with my girlfriend. The entrance is located on the second floor. I can imagine that's not too easy to find at first. Kind and friendly staff, able to speak German, English and Russian. Rooms are beautifully designed in art nouveau style. The room I had was about 50 m². It wasn't maybe the fanciest room like in most modern hotels but it is charming nevertheless. Breakfast was simple but plenty. The biggest plus of this hotel is the location: 5 minutes walk from two metro stations and the bus to the Tegel airport stops on a 2 minute walk from the hotel. Definitely worth the price-quality.

I stayed here for 5 days in early December. I booked a Grande after all the micro rooms in Paris as a splurge. More space than I needed! Shower had great water pressure, the room was evenly warm without having to make adjustments and brightly lit. The breakfast buffet had a terrific selection (go early only because there aren't many spots) and nice quality coffee. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly. Actually everyone was very friendly. I wish the restaurant was open, but it's still being renovated. There are 2 metro stations within walking distance. It's not in a very exciting or interesting neighborhood, which is it's only drawback. HOWEVER, it is about a 5 minute walk to Tresor (with it's neighboring performance space, Kraftwerk, which I loved) and another club (I think it's called Sam's?)next to the northeast entrance of the Heinrich-Heine-Straße. I had no problem getting around. I'd stay there again.

Great location, cc 600m from S bahn which takes you everywhere. Perfect wide choice breakfast. Clean room and bathroom. no complain. We were there for 3 days, in a 2 bad room, it was good enough. Simple but great place to stay during visiting Berlin and/or Potsdam.

Kreuzberg
coincidentially we booked this hotel, when looking to be close to the Bergmann Kietz in the center of Kreuzberg. I would call it a gift to had a chance staying at the Vihelm 7. Beside the very authentic, typical Berlin backyard architecture, the way this building was refurbished, is absolutely great. No playfulness, no glitter but the plain style of late 1890 / early 1900 with a light influence of modern art. There is some nice history about this building, which was a cotton textile factory in the early days of industrialization. We had a nice double bed room, which is quite big with a box-spring bed of very good quality. bathroom is big as well , including a shower. The hotel is very clean and managed very well. The breakfast is made with organic food, everything produced in the greater region of Berlin and great quality. Our special THANKs to Yvonne, the Manger of the Vihelm 7, who is so wonderful warmhearted and gave us so much insight into the history of this nice place. This Hotel is absolutely recommended ...
