We stayed at the Hotel Arolla during the UK school half-term holidays in February 2020. On previous holidays we’d opted to stay up the mountain in the Arc 1600 resort. However, this time we decided to explore Bourg St Maurice. The hotel is small and compact but perfectly equipped and adequate for a family holiday. The rooms (we had 2x double and 1x twin) are clean, well equipped, although on the small size. Rooms are warm, and showers hot which is lovely after a long day on the slopes. Probably the biggest bonus to this particular hotel is the excellent and friendly owners. Nothing seems too much for them and they go way beyond expected from a hotel owner. During our stay Thierry, the joint owner with his wife, organised restaurant reservations for us in Bourg, made some excellent suggestions and managed to get us a very late table, after 10pm on the evening we arrived at a local family run Italian restaurant - which we coincidentally returned to later the same week as the food was delicious and freshly prepared. Thierry also arranged for birthday cakes and champagne to help us celebrate a birthday, breakfast and early evening drinks were well organised, and we felt very well looked-after. Midway through the week you also have the opportunity to wash and dry clothes, as part of the service, at no additional cost, which is especially grateful when skiing all week! The daily travel from Bourg to the Arc 1600 resort uses the funicular which is generally included in the cost of the ski passes. Although at times quite busy, the journey from hotel to slopes is no more than 15 minutes even at peak times. We also hired our ski equipment in Bourg which actually saved us around 40% from the resort hire shops. Bourg is a pleasant town with a nice pedestrianised area and a choice of local restaurants, particularly emphasising the local cuisine(s) - lots of raclettes and fondues!! There is a small number of bars, but we did find the town on the quiet side in comparison to the Arc 1600 or Arc 1800 resorts. If you are looking for a lively “Apre Ski” Bourg is probably not the place. For us, the hotel fulfilled all our needs, the service was excellent and truly representative of the 5 stars. Bourg is pleasant but a little, on the quiet side for us. Thank you for a lovely vacation Hotel Arolla.

Super service and a nice apartment that fulfilled our purpose for a stayover on our way to La Rosiere. The place can be difficult to find, so remember to send you estimated arrival time to them and they will meet you on the street. We will stay here again :)

We found this new hotel for an inexpensive family short holiday. Low prices but good access to great skiing. The distance to funicular was about 15 mins walk but there is free shuttle bus and car parking at funicular only 3 euros a day. The room was comfortable although small and had WiFi , comfortable bed and good TV with English channels. Only negative was clear glass door to shower cubicle opening to room and basin in room. The toilet is in separate cubicle with frosted glass door The breakfast was great and evening meal had good choice and reasonable quality and price. We did not realise we had to book for dinner and on last night restaurant full. But there is good range of restaurants in the town. Parking free at hotel. In all we recommend

Hotels Near Le Bel Face In Bourg-Saint-Maurice Review

I stayed here with my sister and parents as a stop-off on a hiking trip. This was the only hotel in the area with any available rooms, so we didn’t really have a choice. This was my first 2 star experience so I had no idea what to expect, but all in all I was disappointed. On arrival, the hotel looked slightly dingy and run-down, and we had to wait an hour to check in which was irritating. On entrance, it quickly became clear that the inside was worse than the outside. The corridors were dark and incredibly narrow, and clearly cheap. The road noise was appalling - the windows were only single glazed so did next to nothing to help block out the constant din, and since there were two of us in a tiny room in thirty-degree heat, we were forced to keep the window open all night as the heat was so intense. This meant that both of us woke up several times throughout the night. The bathtub was almost comically small - at 5’8” I am not one of the tallest people on the planet, but I found myself having to sit with my knees almost to my chest just to fit inside. I am not someone who is a particular fan of baths at the best of times, but since there was no shower I was forced to put up with it. However, all that being said, the beds were comfortable enough and the sheets were clean. (And they provided a spare pillow for each of us, which was a bonus.) The breakfast was adequate, considering this was a 2 star hotel - there was cereal, fruit, yoghurt and bread, nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. I feel it’s worth mentioning that couples should undoubtedly opt for a twin room rather than a double room. My parents had originally booked a double, but as soon as they saw the bed they asked to swap to a twin. The “double” bed was tiny, not much wider than a single. It would have fitted two people, but barely, and certainly not comfortably. To the credit of the staff, they immediately agreed to swap the rooms and made no fuss at all (although the fact that we were the only people in the hotel might have made a difference). The staff were pleasant enough but on checkout it was clear that the lady had no idea how to operate the card machine, and this cost us upwards of 25 minutes on departure. All in all, I have to say I was glad that we were only staying for one night.
