We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights after a cruise in the Caribbean. It is on a hill above a marina, not far from Pointe-a-Pitre and the cruise port. The three major problems with this hotel are 1) it is on a hill, and there is no nearby accessible beach; 2) to get anywhere except the marina, one needs transportation, so unless you have a car rental, avoid this hotel; 3) there is no service to help carry suitcases to and from the rooms, and many rooms are only reached via outdoor stairways, there being no elevators. This should be noted in any information about this hotel. In addition, when we first arrived (by taxi from the port), our room was not ready, which did not particularly bother us, since we arrived about 11 am, before check-in time. However, the person at the desk spent lots of time on the computer and on the phone before telling us to leave our suitcases in a storage room and to return about 1 pm, which we did. In the meantime we walked downhill to the marina and found a restaurant for lunch. Upon our return, the employee at the check-in desk did not have the key to the baggage room, and after a long time finally called another person who had a second key, so that we could get our baggage. We were told where our room was, and were surprised to have to go down two storeys on an external cement stairway and carry our suitcases there. This is obviously not adapted to people over a certain age, who should avoid this hotel. While we were in our room, the employee at the check-in desk called to ask us to return the key to the baggage room, which we had returned before going to lunch. She insisted that we must have the key. I then remembered that when we were let into the baggage room to recuperate our suitcases, I had noticed two large suitcases that had not been there earlier. So I went up to the check-in desk, where the employee again insisted that we must have the key, and I told her about these other suitcases, indicating that someone else must have been in the bagage room after us. She was unpleasant and continued to tell me that we must have the key. Then a young couple arrived with these two big suitcases, and returned the key to the baggage room. It turns out they simply kept the key after storing their suitcases. This was not a good introduction to this hotel, and the employee at the desk showed her incompetence by not remembering that this couple had used the baggage room after us. The rooms themselves were adequate, with air-conditioning, an excellent and large bathroom with very good shower, and a small kitchenette with fridge, but we did not use the kitchenette. The best thing about this hotel was the breakfast, served in a covered patio just above the swimming pool. There were lots of choices, lots of tropical fruits, good coffee, warmed croissants, a toaster, and some local specialties. The only problem was breakfast cereal; only Corn-Pops or chocolate Corn-Pops were available, no granola, but that is a deta

My wife and I had an excellent seven night stay at Hotel Fleur d'Epee. From check-in to check-out the staff were very courteous and helpful. I will tell you that we may have only been the English speakers at the hotel. The location of the hotel made it quite easy to get to from the airport and I felt it was centrally located so that I could get to the rest of the island easily. We had a very nice Sea View Room with patio that also had a small sofa and chair. The view of the beach and water was very good from our particular location. The room was well maintained. We had not gone the all-inclusive route and our stay only included the breakfast which was quite good and started our day out with a wide range of offerings. The breakfast buffet selection was extensive including meats, cheeses, vegetables, fresh cooked eggs, and a wide array of fruits and bread. For dinner you could eat at the hotel buffet but there were three restaurants within a stone’s throw. It is hard to describe but there were actually two beaches. The beach on the right was magnificent, calm and very nice to swim in, The beach on the left, because of its particular angle to the sea was much rougher and I saw several people surfing on this side. The waves were not too big and this would be a great area for a beginner or the older surfer. As we checked out quite early, Fabien (who was fantastic) offered to get us some coffee and food for our trip the airport since we were leaving before the breakfast started.

Canella Beach Hotel in Guadeloupe is a solid 3+ star resort and a great value . It is located in Gosier- convenient to the airport, in a quiet waterfront section of Rue des Hotels. Among Canella Beach's many strengths is that it has a lovely beach front on the Carib Sea ( not many Gosier hotels do) - with white sand, complimentary sun loungers & umbrellas, & access to a tasty snack shop. The beach is cleaned & groomed every morning. Hotel rooms are most comfortable, nicely decorated, & roomy Every room has a kitchenette/balcony- which is a nice feature. Our accommodations were in a Superior Studio suite- with a fabulous ocean view. The grounds/ gardens are well maintained & nicely planted with tropical foliage. The pool is good sized, kept very clean ( & also offers a hot tub/spa).& is surrounded by nice pool loungers The hotel provides plush beach towels for their guests. A most complete breakfast buffet is included in the room rate- and features fresh local fruits, pane au chocolat, croissants, & french rolls- and toast- as well as eggs (scrambled soft boiled or hard boiled), breakfast meats, cereals, brie, tropical jellies, yogurts, fruit juices, & coffee(-plus the makings for cafe au lait). There is noticeable on going efforts to improve / paint -replaster exteriors of the hotel- which is painted in bright tropical colors Reliable taxi services can be arranged through the hotel for airport transfers- as well as for travels around the island. A plaza offering car rentals/ a small grocery shop (epicerie)/ gift shop/ & restaurants is an easy 5 minute walk from the hotel. There are many fine restaurants in the Gosier area- offering delicious Carib/ French/Creole cooking which we greatly enjoyed Available is an Excursion Director ( Dina) who is at the hotel Mon- Fri /8-10am - who offers excellent tours around Guadeloupe We booked full day tours of Grande Terre, Basse Terre, a snorkeling 1/2 day trip, and visited the very fine Aquarium, & Zoo /Botanical Gardens. All were excellent- well done, & even offered in English(in this piece of France). The staff at Canella Beach is most pleasant, reliable, & helpful. Our whole experience in Guadeloupe- centered at Canella Beach Hotel -was a tropical delight! Tres Bon!

Me and my parents spent 10 days in La Creole beach hotel during Christmas. Not knowing so much pre our stay other than info from the hotel web site our expectations were exceeded in a positive way. Our rooms were spacious and clean with a nice bathroom and big comfortable beds. The staff was friendly and serviceminded. We really enjoyed the beautiful beach and the pool area. The beach bar had nice lunch and drinks. The La route des épices restaurant had fantastic breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets. It was a great food experience, especially tasting all the local Christmas specialities. It was different entertainment every night in the bar and we really enjoyed our evenings there with great music and dancing. I would definetily recommend this hotel and would love to come back for another stay one day.

I must admit I only completed research on the Island of Guadeloupe only after I booked my flight, and it should go noted my french vocabulary consist of possibly 10 words. With that said I will tell you that reviews you read about people around the speaking enough English to communicate with you is not exactly true. I was very happy I chose to book a hotel vs. an air BnB since I knew I would feel more comfortable knowing the hotel would have to have at least one English speaking representative. Hotel & Room- I will start with the start of the weekend trip to Guadeloupe. The staff at the hotel were very delightful and very helpful and they did speak English. *Do know that the Mahogony is a part of Le Creole, so they share all general spaces and it makes it easier when telling your taxi where you are heading.* Each night there was live music in the lobby which was nice. The hotel appeared very nice with modern touches to decor but I will say there was at least one to two roaches that were seen in around the hallways to the rooms daily, never inside the room. Other Caribbean bugs and insects were also see but were expected. The rooms were spacious and cleaned everyday. I did have a king room but was given a two twin bed room where they just pushed the mattresses together. The room was equipped with a kitchenette in the balcony. The room does use the French plug, I suggest you pack an adapter. Pool & beach- The pool was quiet calm and clean, I spent my last full day in the hotel and enjoyed the pool which was great. There weren't too many people so finding chairs wasn't a hassle. The beach was also quiet and calm, beach isnt very large as they have a rock wall that closes in their beach. Everything on the Island is charged in Euros so if you have to and can change before getting to the island I recommend it, the exchange was brutal (believe it or not the best rate was at the hotel but they limit the amount you can change daily). I will say I did not eat at the hotel so I cannoot comment on the food in the hotel but the food around the island was amazing. The hotel is surrounded by so many great dining experiences and restaurants and a casino- all walking distant. Most of the meals were consumed walking distant from the hotel- but again language barriers were a problem as almost all menus were in French and not many of the servers spoke English. My recommendations to try near the hotel are Safari Pizza, D'lys tropikal and Creperie le Boss, and what appeared as a chain bread shop near by that I cant remember the name. Gladys at concierge was extremely helpful in helping us book a two excursions one which was a tour of pointe-a-pitre, we found wasn't exactly worth it but the second which was a tour in Les Saintes which was amazing and I highly recommend. Gladys was able to book us an English translator which helped since every tour guide only spoke french. Cons to the hotel- One would be the roaches seen around the halls of th

Stayed here for 11 nights and were pleasantly surprised by the warmth of our reception and the effort every member of staff made to make us feel at home. Especially the lady overseeing the breakfast area was a delight to meet every morning. Rooms are not exactly spaceous (who cares considering that gorgeous Guadeloupe weather outside), but spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you need on a vacation. The place is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, pool and surrounding area are clean and inviting to laze in the sun. A couple of minutes by car to the beach(es). For the less discerning (or less adventurous) eater: La Maison Creole is located only a hundred yards from a Kentucky Fried Chicken and maybe 250 from MacDonald's. What more can you ask for? If you prefer more original food, "Le Napoli" is almost next door with a fine crossover of French, Italian, and Caribbean meals.

Booking: with Expedia. I emailed the hotel the day before travelling, to check that my reservation had been received, but the hotel only replied two days later, meaning I got the acknowledgement after I had checked-in. This really isn't good enough customer service. Getting there: Gatwick to Paris, Charles de Gaulle, with easyJet. Airport transfer by Ligne 3 bus. Overnight stop at Orly. Orly to Point-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe with Air France. Transfer to hotel with airport shuttle bus (reviewed separately). Check-in: efficient. Room: I was given room 81 in the quiet, single-storey Habitation Vanille. The room was very good and had an ocean view. If you wish to enjoy the ocean view from your bath you should be aware that people might walk past! Food: finw. The breakfast buffet was good although the hot choices weren't quite to the liking of this Brit, who sought salace in the quiche. I enjoyed eating out on the balcony. The three-course ;meno of the day' dinner, at E45, was only E2 cheaper than the three cheapest courses on the a la carte menu. I was disappointed by this meal. Better value, at E35, was a three-course lunch; each course was tasty, substantial and presented well. Drinks: expensive. In the bar, a glass of house wine can be had for E7. Bottled beer - not sure if 25cl or 33cl - was E6.50. This compares with E6/0.5l at a nearby beach bar, or E3.60/0.5l at a decent restaurant out in the sticks. Had prices been more reasonable I would have used the bar more, and the hotel might have made more profit from me. Beach: immediately adjacent. This is about 30m long and about 10m wide. A bar backs onto the beach and positions much of its furniture on the sand. The beach is a quiet location and offers safe bathing, Sargassum: nil - despite my visit being at the end of the Sarassum season (March-December). Even if Sargassum was to make it here, the size and nature of the beach is such that a clean-up would be very easy. Pool: I used this in the mornings, when most of the hotel's sun-seekers would favour the beach. The pool was, therefore, uncrowded. Water temperature was just perfect. ATM: about 5 mins away at La Banque Postale. This has all the major logos on it. Car-hire: I counted three rental operations in the immediate vicinity. Guadeloupe is, I think, one of those destinations where hiring a car makes sense. Getting to the airport: Not wishing to use an expensive shuttle service again, I caught the bus. Leaving the hotel, turn left and walk about 300 metres down the hill, to catch bus no AE3. The trip to the airport is direct, takes about 35 minutes and costs a paltry E1.20. But check the time-tablle! I was disappointed that the hotel's Reception team met my query about the bus option with incredulity. They really should have information about this option at their fingertips - especially as what I saved on a taxi-fare paid for my lunch at the hotel!!! Would I stay here again? I am unlikely to visit
