We’re BW Rewards members and couldn’t find anything available in Cassis. Looking close by, I was struck by a photo of the view from this hotel onto the harbor. Their available rooms (harbor view) were a little pricier than we usually like, but we decided to treat ourselves. So glad we did! Maria and other personnel were super accommodating and pleasant, and the hotel is comfortable, with clean, elegant decor, perfectly located for the best views of the harbor! Our room was very spacious, with a large bathroom (huge shower) and separate toilet. There is a large window between the room and the bathroom, allowing for natural light in the bathroom, with a privacy shade. Features included automatic lighting in closets, safe, mini-bar, lighting and outlets on either side of the bed, immaculate linens, and huge flatscreen TV. Our balconied room, 301, had a perfect view of the harbor with vintage crane designed by Eiffel. At night, there was perfect quiet and, in the morning, beautiful natural light poured into the room. (There are sliding doors out onto the balcony and both sheer and room-darkening shades.) La Ciotat is not far from Cassis and, if you like, you can take an alternate road recommended by Rick Steve’s called la Route des Cretes. It’s a little hair-raising, but scenic! Breakfast was an additional €16 (but we didn’t try it) and underground, secured parking was €12 per day. One evening, we ate at the Italian restaurant a few steps from the hotel, La Vigne à l’Olivier. OMG, so good! While in La Ciotat, we took a boatride along the coast, past Cassis and to the Calanques, and we also hiked (from the closest starting point) to the Calanque d’en Vau. We found La Ciotat to be a delightful alternative to the larger Cassis and highly recommend this BW!

Have you ever been to the hotel room with no wardrobe, not even a rack, no cupboards or even wall mounted shelves? There was no point unpacking your clothes as there was nowhere to store them. And how about some 2 sqm bathroom where only tiny people can fit in the shower? We have spent 2 nights in place like that - it is called Moxy in La Ciotat. If you arrive to the local train station, 45 min walk awaits you. Seaside is min. 25 min walk. Location is random. Reception lady does not know which bus can take you to the beach as “she is not using the bus herself”. I thought seaside is the main reason guests are coming there so it would be nice to equip them with this basic information! Hotel is located among retail park. It gives you less than Ibis but charges 4* prices. We arrived about 1 pm as this is how the trains worked but they would not check us earlier even by 5 minutes. It had to be 3 pm to the dot. Next day I saw people checking out well before 12 so it is not that they could not let us in as a courtesy. I am actually lucky we were allowed in as I have witnessed very distressed couple who arrived at reception at 6.30 pm being told that their reservation was cancelled after 6 pm. It looked like they are overbooking too. We had what was called “larger sleeper”. Larger meant there was a useless narrow corridor leading to the funny layout bedroom. Housekeeping came at 4 pm only to replace towels and empty bins. They have not made the beds or mop the dusty floors - our feet were black from this floor! We had to do some work and wifi was not great either. One nice experience was young lady at the checkout who ordered us car to the station. Rest of the staff was unwelcoming and hostile. I wanted to change the room as I was promised back side but instead was allocated one overlooking busy roundabout - there was no way however reception would even consider it. I have higher expectations for 175 Euros per night from hotel belonging to Marriott brand which we are members of for years. Having written hundreds of mainly good hotel reviews I think I have some credibility to assess how decent hotel looks like - sadly it is not one of them. I very rarely give 2 stars - maybe one per hundred stays or so. It is new hotel which has started on a very wrong foot. I cannot see how they are ensuring repeated custom next year.

This hotel is on the beach at St Jean. It has been refurbished recently and the room amenities are fine (great shower, smart TV with Netflix etc). The rooms with the balcony are the ones having - unfortunately we did not have one of these. The swimming pool area just does not work as there are not enough sunbeds, hence we did not really use the pool. The staff are friendly overall though the service can be a bit slow. A nice location for the price.

We booked this hotel 8 months ago when we finalized our plane tickets, redoing a Covid postponed trip from 2020. We didn't know that they had undergone renovations and that we actually were the first guests in our room. All staff friendly, courteous and helpful. Front desk staff all spoke English. Way better experience than what we thought we might have. The location is unbeatable, just steps to the harbour and beach where all the action is. Parking at a lot up the hill maybe 3 blocks. If in Cassis again we would definitely stay here again.
