We picked Zenitude L'Oree du Parc as our hotel during a recent winter holiday visit to Geneva. Big mistake. The hotel is situated in the nearby (<20 km) French vacation/spa resort of Divonne-les-Bains. Location is fine for the pleasant little town of Divonne - being close to downtown - and Geneva, which is 20 minutes down the nearby highway. A big plus is free parking. First negative observation: this is an apartment hotel with limited service: cleaning is once-a-week - more on this later - and there is a reception desk open during regular working hours. If you arrive late (as we did) you'll be met with a locked front door and the telephone number shown on a box located near this door did not connect with anyone. The rooms are spartan - think "youth hostel" rather than "hotel". One can certainly not consider having any visitor in this type of room. Our bathroom had a very strong odour coming from the pipework/drainage that the feeble ventilation could not overcome and which forced us to keep the outside balcony door opened at all times (in winter!). The clothes closet is almost useless. Half of it, intended for hanging clothes was encumbered with an electric water heater tank that blocked the sliding door, not allowing it to open. While we're at the heat water tank, be aware that in spite of it's huge exterior size the tank can only provide sufficient water for two consecutive showers a day. Complaining about this, we received the following advice from a maintenance man: "wash yourselves first and forget the dishes, or do them later"! We were also shown a way to bypass the "overnight only" heating cycle but the workaround was of limited value since, one way or another, the heating cycle takes a very long time. General room cleaning, or rather lack of it, was a sore point with us. When the towels were not changed after one week, a request for fresh ones was met with indifference. After waiting for one hour, I took the dirty towels to the front desk and asked for new ones so we can wash and start our day. I had to wait for another hour and when I complained again I received a very rude reply. Later, when we left, the receptionist didn't even answer our "goodbye". We have not encountered such an arrogant, rude behavior in a long time. The following week, there was no clean up whatsoever. I went again to the front desk and complained asking that someone should come have a look at the clumps of dust big as apples that were accumulating all over the floor. I was told that we are scheduled to leave in another few days so .... they won't clean. No one came. I waited for the manager to conclude a lengthy phone call but after standing there for 15 minutes I gave up in disgust. It was obvious that she did not wish to see me. I said that I'll await in the room but no one came in the next half-an-hour. At checkout, we were offered a 8 euro rebate on account of the missed cleaning. We had not asked for it and considered the offer insulting.

This is a great value hotel at €75/room which are clean and comfortable. The restaurant downstairs is also very good and the breakfast is one of the best. Only blemish was the spotty WIFI reception which couldn’t be picked up in our top floor rooms and only intermittently in the foyer area.

About 20 minutes drive from Geneva airport (80 euros taxi fare one way, which is properly expensive for such a short journey!) the accommodation was easy to find and well located in the village, quiet despite being just a very short walk to the centre with shops, banks, bars, restaurants etc. and an excellent Sunday market. Have read the previous reviews, which are quite old now, but there aren't that many hotels in Divonne itself and what's on offer does seem to separate the market, by style and financially - so take your choice. The room we were allocated was well furnished and reasonably clean. We got a bedroom with a decent bed, separate seating area with sofa, coffee table & TV (no English channel), air conditioning and hanging/storage space. Small functional kitchen so you could self-cater if you had to, but is limited. Toilet separate to bathroom. Shower flow was poor but apart from that the room in general was ok. There is no housekeeping provided for short stays, but it did state this on the website so we were aware before we booked, and our stay was only 2 nights so we weren't concerned that this was lacking. We had breakfast (included) each day in the hotel, which turned out to be a (very) small choice of hot & cold foods, pastries and a coffee machine. All self service. We found most of the staff we encountered to be friendly and multilingual, although one receptionist did manage to book our taxi back to the airport at 4am rather than 4pm! resulting in a rather unwelcome phone call waking us in the early hours, so clearly something lost in the translation there. All in all, the hotel was well located for our requirements and we would stay again if we were revisiting the area.

The kitchen countertop was deteriorating some, and cookware has seen better days, but I would stay again anytime. The staff is sincerely friendly and helpful and everything is kept clean. Sure, some renovation would be nice, but when that happens the price should definitely be higher! Right now it is brilliant value for money in Divonne les Bains and the Geneva area.

The hotel itself was really nice, the pool and spa is excellent. Rooms are excellent. Overall location was nice and quite, a few minutes walk from the lake. However, service was poor - took almost 10 minutes to checkout (I was the only one checking out at the time) and if you want an invoice you need to ask then they go off and print it. Bar service was also very unattentive especially as there were less then 5 guests at the bar in the evening. Would likely try alternate hotels when staying again in the area.
