0.07km from Les PresidentsWe picked Zenitude L'Oree du Parc as our hotel during a recent winter holiday visit to Geneva. Big mistake. The hotel is situated in the nearby (<20 km) French vacation/spa resort of Divonne-les-Bains. Location is fine for the pleasant little town of Divonne - being close to downtown - and Geneva, which is 20 minutes down the nearby highway. A big plus is free parking. First negative observation: this is an apartment hotel with limited service: cleaning is once-a-week - more on this later - and there is a reception desk open during regular working hours. If you arrive late (as we did) you'll be met with a locked front door and the telephone number shown on a box located near this door did not connect with anyone. The rooms are spartan - think "youth hostel" rather than "hotel". One can certainly not consider having any visitor in this type of room. Our bathroom had a very strong odour coming from the pipework/drainage that the feeble ventilation could not overcome and which forced us to keep the outside balcony door opened at all times (in winter!). The clothes closet is almost useless. Half of it, intended for hanging clothes was encumbered with an electric water heater tank that blocked the sliding door, not allowing it to open. While we're at the heat water tank, be aware that in spite of it's huge exterior size the tank can only provide sufficient water for two consecutive showers a day. Complaining about this, we received the following advice from a maintenance man: "wash yourselves first and forget the dishes, or do them later"! We were also shown a way to bypass the "overnight only" heating cycle but the workaround was of limited value since, one way or another, the heating cycle takes a very long time. General room cleaning, or rather lack of it, was a sore point with us. When the towels were not changed after one week, a request for fresh ones was met with indifference. After waiting for one hour, I took the dirty towels to the front desk and asked for new ones so we can wash and start our day. I had to wait for another hour and when I complained again I received a very rude reply. Later, when we left, the receptionist didn't even answer our "goodbye". We have not encountered such an arrogant, rude behavior in a long time. The following week, there was no clean up whatsoever. I went again to the front desk and complained asking that someone should come have a look at the clumps of dust big as apples that were accumulating all over the floor. I was told that we are scheduled to leave in another few days so .... they won't clean. No one came. I waited for the manager to conclude a lengthy phone call but after standing there for 15 minutes I gave up in disgust. It was obvious that she did not wish to see me. I said that I'll await in the room but no one came in the next half-an-hour. At checkout, we were offered a 8 euro rebate on account of the missed cleaning. We had not asked for it and considered the offer insulting.
