Staying at the Cocoon and as Irish’s and his brother’s guest has been the most heartwarming adventure in years. They really went the extra mile several times to make my stay pleasant. Like calling the near by excellent rotti place that I’m coming and to take good care of our guest. And they sure did. The room was all new, extremely clean with a very comfortable double bed and aircon. The best shower on this trip, with good water pressure. The place is located in Udupila road so there are multiple good restaurants around. The place is few hundred meters from the beach. I was lucky to stay there in offseason so the I got good prices, perfect weather and no tourists. Irish’s brother is always around to help with things and booked a whale watching trip for me and two other guests with very reasonable price. All I can say is, this is a home away from home. The hosts make it that way, and they will take good care of you, with heart.

Simply amazing value for the money, in a guesthouse 5 minutes walk from the beach, located in a reasonable quiet residential area and run by a very sweet Buddhist family. One tip though, contact the owner, Pradeep, directly and you might end up with a much better deal, than from any of the booking sites, which generally takes up to 30% of the price you pay for accommodation. This is actually a general advice. I paid 1.200 LKR per night including breakfast in the hut just left of the entrance gate into the garden, but I of course also stayed there for 3 weeks and actually had plans for staying there a full month more. My hut easily could fit two persons, had bathroom inside, a good size covered terrace in front with a dinner table and some chairs and actually a tea-kitchen to the side of the terrace. Really nice and easily as cozy and beautiful, as it looks on photos. I choose the hut and not the cheaper room for one person, simply because I study online and I needed that space to sit with my laptop all day and do homework, which was a very nice experience. I often sat on the terrace in daytime and did my homework, with no disturbances or if I decided to do sightseeing during the day, I studied indoors underneath the mosquito net in the evening. The meals in this place simply is amazing, especially if you are vegetarian, as I am and if you like typical Sri Lankan and spicy home-cooked food, which I certainly do. I'm kind of known by friends for eating a lot, but I simply couldn't have squeezed down anymore, than I got. The breakfast were included, as I wrote, and they tried their best to give me something new every day. I often went for their dinner as well, which are a typical Sri Lankan rice and curry, typically with at least 3 different curries and very, very tasty. And if you stay of the right side of Mirissa beach, you can actually eat lunch quite cheap in town as well. Often I went for a fresh juice and roti nearby, which cost around 500 LKR. Even on the beach you can get cheap fresh juice and king coconut, just walk left to Our World and generally the restaurants in the more rocky part of the beach is also much cheaper, than in the busy part of Mirissa beach, and the view is at least as good. The beach area is of course the reason, why people should come to Mirissa and I actually went to Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna on a rented scooter (Pradeep's friend can rent you one cheap) and I think, that the beach area of Mirissa easily pass as the most beautiful and interesting in all of the south. If you get tired of the bars and nightlife in the busy part of the beach, you just walk to any side for more tranquil areas. To the left is the rock just of the beach, which is the best sunset spot, I have ever experienced. Almost went there every evening. Further in that same direction you find Turtle Beach, which have that name for a reason. If you go there at midday, you can almost be certain to spot turtles diving for algae just of the coast an

I really recommend this place. Our trip so far has been varied - some places more expensive, and some cheaper. For the money we paid this place was excellent. The room was very clean, and really big. Bathroom very clean and also good size. Bed was comfortable and big, nice linen and lovely thick towels! The guy who checked us in was very welcoming and friendly and also booked us into a whale watching tour the following morning and we were able to leave our bags safely to collect after we returned from the trip. Location great, just a few minutes onto the Main Street and opposite an entrance to the beach. Only thing to advise: walls are a little thin and make sure you have mosquito repellant. Although we didn’t have any in our room, location of this place is in amongst trees etc. Great value here, and would happily stay again.

Nice guesthouse we had a few issues with the wifi but the family were lovely, we did have more than a few bugs in the room but nothing we couldnt handle! Good mosquito net provided but the room was tiny! we didnt have room for anything and no towel rail which is essential for a beach town really. In a quite little spot up the road from the main street about 10 mins to the beach so not too far. close to lots of lovely restaurants and cafes.

We stayed @ Samantha Flora & Fauna for just over 3 weeks with our 1 year old boy. The staff were all extremely friendly and very helpful. Our room was in the building furthest away from the main road overlooking the garden and the little stream - it was perfect for us! We didn't hear the road or the big parties going on on the beach. The room was very spacious, a large bathroom with two baisins, a shower with warm water :) and a big balcony. The room was cleaned every third day. We felt totally at home. Breakfast portions are large (fresh fruit, eggs, jam, toast). A must is to try the freshly grilled fish in the evenings - delicious! (Also totally recommendable are the batter fried prawns aswell as the prawn and mango salad) We had an amazing time - Thankyou soooo much Samantha, Nilmini and team! Sarah, Ramias & Duan

The kindest people in Marissa! The room was clean, modern, and ready for us when we arrived. The owner was even kind enough to upgrade us for free when he learned it was our honeymoon! Breakfast was prepared daily with coffee and tea. The beach is less than 1 minute from the building, literally directly across from the main entrance but on the opposite side of the road. Being on the other side of the road, it isn't loud at night with the partying going on at the beach so if you crash early it's the perfect location. The local workers even helped my wife and I get to Hikkadua safely. If you use the PickMe app in certain locations, the local Tuk Tuks won't let them pick you up. As our driver got shoed away at the beach entrance, the local Tuk Tuk alpha got all pissed and was trying to force his cab on us aggressively. The workers back at the Ocean Reach called someone they knew who came and scooped us minutes later. That kindness will never be forgotten! Don't expect luxury but this place is exactly what you need to enjoy Marissa!

Shehan's is a family run restaurant / guest house, quietly positioned off the main road of Mirissa beach. Before coming here I'd probably have said the 'best Sri Lankan Rice + Curry' was at a different restaurant... Ohhhh have my opinions changed! The selection and quality of food here is world class. 2 pictures attached to demonstrate. Food like this keeps me healthy and vibrant whilst travelling. This place is a must when travelling through Marissa. Not to mention the owners! Smiles all round. Warm welcomes. Very attentive. And generously offering me more food as well hahaha. Mama is certainly a great cook. Thank you xox Guest house rooms + cooking classes also available. All the best, LeonCW

We were travelling in Nov 2019, with extended family, there were many of us, including small kids. And it was truly amazing - staff is unbelievable, we were very sad to leave ! They were super friendly with kids (although non of them had a common language to speak, kids had awesome time with staff and I could not be more thankful for such great vibe), always attentive to guests and always ready to help ! Food was the best on the entire beach, we tested and tried many places there around, as we were staying for more then a week. In general - perfect spot. If I ever get back to Sri Lanka, this is the only place I want to be in and nowhere else :) Rooms are not exactly luxurious, but if you are only coming back for the night time to sleep, didnt matter that much. Much more important was the surrounding, service, feed, views and this great atmosphere.

I found myself in a very tranquil and serene environment. There wasn’t much noise around and there were many local shops and restaurants nearby. The beach was also very nearby. I really enjoyed my stay here and I highly recommend it.

Now we have stayed a couple times here and I don’t know why I have not left a review before but, here goes... It’s perfect for us with one tween child. Our son wants to be in room#2 as it has the perfect niche of an space for him. The seated space there works as a bed for him. They do bring an extra bed if required. We enjoy the food served and the choices just fine over 3 days of stay. Pizzas are a hit with kids so that’s half the battle won. The pool is okay size to enjoy a dip after being most day in the sea. A patch of green works great for families with little kids and away from sand. Surf schools are next door for classes (Surf and Lanka) and it’s delightful to watch the surfers all day. I just have an issue with music they have on weekends.A little loud for me. Kinda ruins the calm for me.Also, the huge W15 signs on both ends of the property is a bit much. I do recommend this lovely welcoming and lively place to enjoy your stay at Weligama. No place can function well without the right staff and this place has got great team. Happy Holidays!

It is very close to the beach and you will cross the road. The room is clean and spacious, and the bathroom facilities are convenient and practical. There is a swimming pool in the hotel yard, it is very good to sunbathe and swim. Need to be reminded that all hotels, including the five-star hotels that later lived in Colombo, do not provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, and slippers, so you need to prepare yourself. In the room view, it is very convenient to go swimming, surfing and walking at the beach. It’s great to climb the rocks in the evening to watch the sunset, watch the waves, watch the sorghum fisherman fishing, and watch the surf! Walking on the beach, many home stalls, lit candles, music is very romantic, and the price is not high. The hotel room is good, the decoration is basically over, it is estimated that there will be an elevator soon, no need to carry the luggage to climb the building. We booked half-dinner, dinner can be ordered according to the meal, there are local flavors, there are whole grilled fish, the variety of each meal is not the same; the prawns, squid, fish pieces in the seafood rice, I think it is delicious. Breakfast is also good, although the variety is not many, but the taste is good, but also enough to choose. We didn't know if we didn't eat at the hotel for lunch. Book whale watching directly at the hotel, go to Yala National Park for discounts, including hotel pick-up and drop-off, complete the project, much cheaper than some websites. The boss is very enthusiastic. The obvious feeling is that it is not profitable. The WiFi is not good. When you come up, you can call the official online customer service immediately. If you have no results, you can lend your mobile WiFi to us. Our scheduled outings also have special tips and advice. It’s especially early for two consecutive days. It’s three in the morning and six in one day. It’s all packed up for breakfast. It’s not like having a hotel in China that can’t catch up with breakfast, no matter what. At dinner, because a student group in the United States had more guests and more requests, and delayed giving us a dish, I especially expressed my regret and gave it to the local refrigerator. When paying, there are indeed problems with other friends saying that the credit card machine is slow, can't brush the US dollar, can only be converted automatically after the payment of the rupee, if the cash is enough I think they are willing to settle in US dollars, you know. It is very close to the bus station, because it is a pure self-service tour, which is very important to us. There are fruit stalls, resident supermarkets, restaurants (including Chinese restaurants) about five minutes walk. The overall feeling is good, I recommend.

We really enjoyed the night we stayed here. The view from the balcony was fantastic. The room was comfortable and spacious and we slept well. It was a bit old and rough around the edges, and the price was a bit high, but we spent 2 weeks around Sri Lanka and that was more or less par for the course -- Seastar was well worth it for the beautiful view and direct access to the beach. Desk staff were always more than helpful and made the stay really easy and enjoyable.

I had a truly amazing stay at the Wavelength hotel. To begin, the hospitality of the manager, Prasantia, his son (who’s name I didn’t catch), and the chef, Kamal, made our stay there truly unforgettable. To begin, the rooms are comfortable and the AC blows cold. The bathrooms are clean and it is nice and quiet (unless there is a dog bowl party happening somewhere in town). The staff was incredibly accomdating and they were always kind and welcoming. Best of all, the chef, Kamal, went above and beyond. The breakfasts were plentiful and so delicious, and it was brought directly to the terrace attached to your room. He also made us dinner 2 nights in a row it it was delicious beyond belief. He took the time to check on us and explain exactly what we were eating and explained how it was made. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay.

The accommodation itself was clean, the kitchen staff very friendly. The food was good and the beds very comfortable. The manager of the hotel offered us to massage us cheaply. He showed us good reviews of his massages and we agreed. In the end, we were sexually harassed, immoral touched and exploited. In the end we were forced to write him a good review. His sheltered wife and daughter then had to cook for us while he smelt increasingly alcoholized. After this experience, the kitchen staff let us know that this was not the first time. The manager did not leave us alone for the next few days. Constantly knocked on our room. I do not know if this manager is still working there, he fired the cook after he heard us and he said he was jealous because we like the cook. It was really a terrible experience and I would, if this manager still work there avoid the accommodation !!

Mirissa was the last stop on our two-week vacation in Sri Lanka. Our only goal was to attend a whale safari, so we didn't have much expectations for anything else and we booked our stay in at Damith's place only the night before our arrival. Our three nights there really felt like a second home. Damith and his wife were very friendly and sweet, they made sure that everything was as good as possible during our stay. The location was perfect for us; a 5 minute tuk tuk drive away from Mirissa Beach, beatiful surroundings on a property carved inside a rock and the only sounds are coming from a few squirrels and neighbours' chatter. Damith's wife made great breakfast and even cooked a couple of very affordable favorite dinners for us. We could have easily stayed for longer, but our trip was at it's end. We will definitely stay there again when coming back to Mirissa, and will recommend to anyone traveling there.

My husband and I had an amazing 2 nights at the spice house as part of our honeymoon trip last week. We would wholeheartedly recommend anyone coming to mirissa, or Sri Lanka in general, to stay there! And definitely have dinner there too! We had the rooftop villa in the newer building which you had a small walk through what felt like the jungle to get to from the main house - we loved this as we got to see lots of monkeys! However, for anyone with mobility issues then staying in the main house would be best. The room was amazing, 2 levels of balcony all to ourselves with amazing views. The bed was comfy with UK plug sockets nearby and the bathroom was beautiful with a solid oak door. Good air con too. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room, plus a mini fridge with milk which was really appreciated. The WiFi was intermittent but decent enough to check emails/WhatsApps/look things up. There was a shared kitchen and pool but we weren't there long enough to use these, all seemed very well stocked and clean though. The staff were very attentive, polite and helpful. Our toilet broke, however this didn't cause us an issue as the staff came to fix it immediately. We last minute booked onto the cooking class with the chef and we were so glad we did! We helped to cook 6 dishes with their brilliant and very experienced English speaking chef, which were later served to the guests at dinner time. This was hands down the best food we ate in Sri Lanka and we can't wait to try the recipes at home (Phil, the owner, kindly emailed them to us after). Phil was brilliant with email communication and checked everything was ok whilst we were there, as did his lovely wife. Phil was also great at helping us arrange a wonderful driver to take us to our next stop in dickwella. Again, he was the best driver we had. He was knowledgeable and able to show us sights on the way, but was not pushy or trying to take us to tourist traps like other drivers did. We liked him so much that Phil kindly booked him for us again and this time we got to meet his very well behaved 5 year old son, Kent. What really impressed us was that he was named after the 'village' than Phil was from in the UK because of all the help and support he gave this family. Amazing! The only area for improvement we could think of was to consider having large containers of filtered water for guests to use, of course at an extra cost, as this is something we had an other accomodation. This would reduce the need for multiple plastic bottles. This was an amazing stay which we will never forget and can't recommend The Spice house enough! Ps it may cost more than some other budget places in mirissa but for the service, and for us compared to UK prices, this was an absolute bargain! We have already recommended family and friends to come here!

The hotel is new, but unfortunately it is the only good thing about it. There is no space by the pool, so inconvenient with kids or if you want to spend some time of the day by the pool. There are only 4 ugly plastic chairs. Family rooms are on ground floor, they have "garden view", to a small, not attractive back yard. In the room there are 2 double beds and a kitchen with 20 empty cupboards but no table or chairs to sit and eat. No closet to put clothes. Very uncomfortable for family if you have more things than a backpacker. No shelves on bathroom, so we brought this ugly white plastic chair from outside to put the toiletries. They keep the hotel grounds clean but the rooms were not cleaned during our 4 night stay. Be careful when booking directly with the hotel. The information they provide by email will be changed when you are there. We specifically asked by email if we can pay by credit card and the answer was "yes of course" but in reality they wanted to charge extra 3% for that. When referred to the email and said it is unfair to ask the higher price the manager threatened us that we are in his hotel and we should be very careful.

We stayed here at the beginning of March for three nights at the end of our tour of Sri Lanka. A totally different experience from the latest reviews so I wonder if management has changed since Covid. The hotel is situated right at the end of the beach on a peninsula and so when you are in the restaurant or round the pool or on your balcony you are on a level with the surfboarders waiting for a wave. You can leave the hotel by a gate which leads right on to the beach as long as the tide is out. We found the hotel very clean, our room was cleaned every day and we always had endless hot water in the bathroom. Room large with a lovely patio with comfy seats and a hammock. Breakfast was cooked to order every day and we had fruit, pancakes, eggs any way we wanted them and pots of tea. We found the manager charming and very helpful and he helped arrange a whale watching trip and snorkelling with turtles trip both for a very reasonable price. The noise from the clubs along the beach does carry at night but once we shut our doors we slept soundly. We would definitely return.

The hostel had a chilled out vibe to it, people just coming and going, relaxing in the bean bag chairs etc, so much so that I found it difficult to meet people here. There was quite a few families at the time I was there also so they weren’t interested in chatting about travels. The breakfast here is nice, loved the fresh fruit (pineapple and watermelon on different days), toast and jam etc. My room did have air con however like everywhere in Sri Lanka, there was so many power cuts, pretty much nightly for 1-2 hours. Sitting in the room in the dark with the light from your phone can get so hot and claustrophobic but the staff who work here have portable electric lights that they set out on the tables in the common area which is nice. The kitchen here is very large, you can use any of the amenities here (including all the spices), the fridge they just ask you to label your things, it was so nice having cold drinks on hand for the sweltering Sri Lankan days. The beach is very close, and its well frequented with other travellers so you won’t have any issues if your on your own. The waves can be very strong so make sure your a good swimmer if going by yourself.

I've stayed here 7 weeks from march 2020 to may 2020. Excellent location, 5 minutes to Turtle Beach (my favourite from 7 weeks in Mirissa), 1 minute to main beach. Family home is next to Guest House and interaction with family is full of joy and fun. There are beautiful friendly children and some family always in, making the place feel safe and secure as people always present. Ones privacy fully available at the same time. Breakfasts are really enough to last until dinner without eating lunch - varied, healthy and tasty food. Good water pressure, nice bathrooms, all very clean and cleaned regularly if desired. Definitely very clean place......no mould or anything. Wi-fi has 4G available plus a second slightly slower network running in conjunction. At time of writing 4G shows 14Mbps on Speedtest.net, though I am only one here. This is not bad for Sri Lanka which seems to have slow wi-fi in majority of places. Beds all have mosquito netting around and mattresses comfortable. I have longterm fibromyalgia, so I easily notice a poor mattress. Happy with these. Overall a very good feeling in my heart with having stayed here..... I'd certainly stay here again if in Mirissa.

I stayed here for three months. It was a beautiful place to stay in. The garden was beautiful and there were papayas and mangoes growing abundantly. I found myself in a very tranquil and serene environment. There wasn’t much noise around and there were many local shops and restaurants nearby. The beach was also very nearby. I really enjoyed my stay here and I highly recommend it.

We stayed for 10 days at My Hostels in Mirissa. When we walked in we were immediately greeted with a smile. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful with anything you could possibly need. We opted for a single room without AC, which worked perfectly fine as the ceiling fan was working properly. The room was very spacious and clean with a balcony and large bathroom included. The staff is very good at keeping it quite past 11 PM, and you don't hear any street noise which allowed us to actually get some good night sleep for once. They also organize fun social activities, such as snorkeling with turtles, dining and drinking; a great way to meet other travelers. The hostel is super conveniently located, a 5 minute walk to the beach with everything you would want from a beach town. Surfing, diving, party or simply relaxing. We had a great time in Mirissa in general which was largely due to our stay in My Hostels. Highly recommendable.

We stayed here for 1 night with 3 ladies. The room was huge and newly built. We had a massive double bed and 2 single beds. Great Air con and a fridge in the room. Nice little seating area on the balcony outside. Very secure as they have an access door which they lock at night. It’s very close to a gorgeous beach and lots of nice beach bars and restaurants, the night life here is very good! The biggest thing about what makes this hotel great is the family that run it! They couldn’t do enough for us! Very kind and helpful! On arrival they gave us the best chocolate milkshake ever as a welcome drink. A great breakfast too! They recently lost their mother/wife but she would be very proud of how hard they are all working to making their business successful now! They could arrange whale watching trips with a licensed boat, and Pasidu took us to Galle on a tour in a very nice car. You can contact him to arrange anything on +94 77 089 0905. He has very good English and is so lovely! Highly recommended!

Having travelled to various locations in Sri Lanka over 10 nights, I had booked this hotel for our final 10 nights to chill and relax. Our room was huge with a large balcony area overlooking the sea. Comfy bed, good quiet air con and very clean. I asked about a fridge for the room which was put in within minutes of my asking. The owner is a true gentleman and nothing is too much trouble. The staff, happy and courteous and always greeted us with a smile. Unfortunately the whale watching was suspended the day we got there due to restrictions for Covid 19 being put in place. We had a week of going to the lovely beach before things started to change on a daily basis. A curfew was imposed last Friday so was confined to the hotel. We were so well looked after by the staff at the hotel, we spent our days around the pool and I have to say the meals we had at the hotel for the last 4 nights of our stay were absolutely delicious and plentiful. The owner sorted out our airport taxi for our flight yesterday at a very reasonable rate. In the circumstances we were facing, I would not have wanted to be anywhere else and will certainly return next year to stay. A huge huge thank you Esprit D’Ici for looking after us so well, we both wish you and all the staff good health and happiness.

This hotel is almost all European and has a feeling of vacationing in Europe. The pool is in front of the room, and the sea is far away. The scenery is superb. After the check-in, there is no hot water in the shower at night, and it takes only one hour to repair, so the facility is deducted. The reservation includes dinner and breakfast, and dinner buffet can book a table by the sea in advance. The breakfast was taken out, and the hotel said at check-in that the driver came in the morning and took the breakfast at the guard. Drink billing check out. Because watching whales (everyone remember to eat seasickness medicine, otherwise regret it), I checked out late at the hotel for half an hour, although I only gave 15 minutes of check-out time (in fact, no one is staring, there are more people, you can be late, However, people with quality will abide by the agreement. The waiter also helped to move the luggage!) But did not increase the cost. There is a parking lot but it is not big. It is usually a chartered car without worrying about parking problems. Suitable for taking children to swim, the sand in front of the hotel is particularly soft! The location is superb, there are several Chinese restaurants nearby (prices are similar to those in Shanghai, and seafood is cheaper than domestic ones, they are expensive in their own country. Panda restaurants are cheaper, waiters are more enthusiastic), and atm machines are also available (the hotel is right turn) I went to the restaurant in the bay, but there was no point. But I didn't know if I supported UnionPay. There is no sign on the atm signboard. There is a handling fee of 300. There is a supermarket, about 10 minutes from the head of the port. Can be an extra bed, I will be a double bed room, the bed is oversized, five-year-old children can sleep together. But they took the initiative to help me add a cot.
