We chose Hotel Metropol based on the distance to the train station. This was an excellent choice since we spent part of our time in St. Gallen, but also took train trips to Bern and Appenzell. My husband and I had a Superior Double corner room on the 5th floor and my Mom had the identical room on the 4th floor below us. The rooms were spacious and the beds were SUPER comfortable with nice linens. Both rooms had many windows (which also opened) and faced the Public Library as well as the gorgeous train station. We only heard noise at night if we had our windows opened. In addition to the curtains, there are also outside metal window blinds that you can pull up or down. That was nice for darkening the room at night. The breakfast was bountiful and we were greeted with smiling Zorica each morning with our coffee, cappuccinos, and tea. We did have one small incident while in St. Gallen - one of my Mom’s crowns fell out (on a Saturday)! No worries - there is a 365 a day dental office one block away. They were able to take care of her that same day and then we were off on our sightseeing again! Only in Switzerland!! St. Gallen is a beautiful city and home to the UNESCO Abbey of St. Gall and it’s amazing Library containing books dating back to the 9th century - not to be missed! We also visited the Textile Museum which included a special exhibit about Circus Knie Fashion. We highly recommend Hotel Metropol for the comfortable, clean rooms and the excellent location.

A parking area is available for guests. The small and atypical hotel is very close to a green park good for a walk /run. There is an area to stay outside for a drink in the good season; restaurant , bar and this exterior are shared with people not guest if the hotel. Room are simple and neat, quite basic and old in their forniture. I had no desk , chair and tv in my room, but they offer I pad at the reception and there is a Bose sound system in the room. I took a salad for dinner, maybe too dressed but good; with two glasses of wine about 42chf. The reception is a desk within the restaurant/bar

The style of the hotel is modern, the appearance is unremarkable, the hotel is very clean, the bathroom is very good, the decoration of the room is very general, even a bit ugly, especially the curtains. But the important thing is to have air-conditioning. For those traveling to Switzerland at the end of June, air-conditioning is so important. Most hotels in Switzerland do not have air-conditioning. (35 degrees lasts until nine o'clock in the evening, indoors are usually hotter than outdoors.) The breakfast is quite satisfactory and acceptable. But there is no sense of being served by the waiter at all.

This is a hotel garni (no restaurant, but a breakfast room). It is located one flight above street level (no elevator from ground floor but staff will help with suitcases) on a business street. It's two stops from the main train station and once you register, you get a card for free public transportation in the city and nearby so you can return to the train station in minutes without paying for the tram.. Everything was very clean, the staff was lovely, breakfast was entirely sufficient. The room was very small and this is not a hotel to lounge around in; it's strictly for business or a sightseeing program. The room was perfectly adequate, though, the bathroom worked well, and if you are looking for economical, clean, and convenient lodgings with no frills in expensive Switzerland, this is a good choice. In about ten minutes' walk, we were at the magnificent not-to-be-missed cathedral and the adjacent l8th century library, which are the star attractions in the charming historic city.

This place is a few hotel-style rooms on the periphery of an old-aged care center. Good idea, overall, but the service is minimal, which proved particularly challenging for us when we arrived on a Sunday evening (front desk only open 9:30 am to 11:30 am, but we didn't know that). Also problematic given the day/time of our arrival was that there were no working elevators from the underground parking and we had rather heavy bags. But once we got checked in, things were fine. The room was compact but comfortable enough. Comfortable beds and good ventilation. Disappointed not to have a fridge, though. The location was handy to walk into the enter of the city for dinner, too. The breakfast, served in the residents' dining room, was excellent. Lots of healthy, yummy choices and delicious coffee. The lady serving the coffee spoke no English, so just spoke to us in German as if we could understand. She was adorable! We also had a nice conversation with one of the residents who spoke English and wanted to chat a bit. It ended our stay on a high note.

The room was very spacious and is very well decorated. Also, the room had a lovely view. The outdoor seating area is very comfortable and looks good. The WiFi in the room and the hotel was very fast, even with a good number of people connected to it. And the staff was extremely helpful and were friendly throughout my time staying there. Overall, really nice place to stay!

A basic but very clean hostel, just out of town 25 min walk uphill or a 5 minute ride on the Apenzeller Bahn to Birnbeaumen Halte from the AB station next to the SBB. As with most hostels you make and strip your own bed, the toilets and showers were spotless. the room was warm as no aircon and day time temperatures of 30+. There was a basic buffet breakfast included in the price. We were given a transport pass for the area as part of the deal for all public transport. I could not fault it, If you are on a limited budget it is good value.

Fleurs De Zermatt is a very nice hotel with very high tech and mountain motiff rooms. Plenty of storage and lighting was motion activated. Great bathrooms with heated floor and large bathtub. Bath robes too...comfy beds and wonderful buffet breakfast each day. This hotel is very quiet and close to train station - but far enough away so it was very quiet...staff is very friendly and helpful. This hotel is CLEAN! No drinks or food except water and an espresso maker in the room. We liked that unique rule, the rooms are very clean and finishes very nice. Hotel not over crowded, perfect for couples...not a lot of kids which was very nice. Booked through our great travel agent, Vapiano Travel...check them out.

The overall quality of Swiss hotels is really high, with details in place everywhere. The same is true of this hotel. The handsome guy at the front desk is really super enthusiastic. He will say hello every time he meets, and explain how to play the Matterhorn route when he checks in. The breakfast husband said that it was the fullest day in Europe. There are boiled eggs and fried eggs. Fried eggs are not salty and rare, and there are small cakes. This salmon is super fresh and has a lot of fruit. The best thing is that the juice is freshly squeezed, squeezed by yourself, and there is a special machine for pressing fruits. The room was clean, the bed was large and comfortable. The balcony is also nice and you can see the street view. By the way, there are minibars in the room, all of them are free. This is awesome. There are beer and various drinks in it. Seems like 6 bottles. The coffee in the coffee machine is also very good, but I didn't drink it. The hotel has a free mini bus, the front desk said it would take us, but it was useless and I wanted to go around by myself. Very pleasant stay, recommend everyone. The price is not cheap or expensive, around 1500 a night.

Had to transfer unexpectedly from Sunstar Saas Fee to Zermatt. While I am grateful for the transfer they arranged, I must say there seems to be big differences between Sunstar properties. The location in Zermatt is very convenient. Short walk to town or to Sunnega lift station, and there’s a bus stop just outside the ski room to get to the Matterhorn lifts. The ski room is fine but does not have individual storage for guests. The restaurant was only open for breakfast. The buffet was fine, though a notch down from the one in Saas Fee in terms of offering. I did find the room quite small and rather interesting configuration. Obviously, the sight in Zermatt is Matterhorn. The bed is arranged so you get a direct view of the Matterhorn. This results in decent amount of “dead space” in the room that is small to begin with. The shower and the sink are in the room, so if you are used to having bathroom privacy… In my friends’ room the toilet was right behind the headboard of the bed. Apparently not lot of noise insulation. I would note I woke up both mornings earlier than planned when the next-door room turned on the shower. As a single traveler the room was fine for few nights. I would think that two people with all the ski gear it may start feeling quite tight. I have stayed at numerous other four-star properties in Zermatt over the years. I just don’t think Sunstar measures up.

We just came back from our first Switzerland ski trip. This hotel is centrally situated on the bus route. A 5-min walk to bus if you want to go to Matterhorn side, and 10-15 min walk to the cog rail/lift if you want ski Rothorn. Also it is a 5-10 min walk to the center of the village and the train station. We love the location because it is close to everything but quiet at night. Rooms are clean and new. Breakfast buffet is awesome! You have to try the restaurant in the first floor. Their “flame” cooking in front of you is really a cool experience. They have a lot of chocolate for their guests as well - decent Swiss chocolate! The wellness center which has jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna which is a must-go after a long day ski. If we ever go back to Zermatt, we will definitely stay at this hotel again. We left our luggage at the hotel on the day of leaving, and my husband was still skiing one hour before the train departed. That sounded crazy but the ski rental store (Matterhorn Sports) right across the hotel was so efficient and made this happen.

Hotel is very conveniently located, just about 150 meters from the Zermatt train station, and the Gornegrat station. It is right on the main street, close to ***y shops and restaurants. Coop supermarket is available in the mall opposite the train station. Room size is not large, but adequate, and beds are quite comfortable. Amenities like toothbrush, toothpaste and water flask are not provided, but slippers and mineral waters are available. Restaurant at the ground floor is quite well decorated. Breakfast has adequate varieties, but should not expect the same as the hotels in mainland China. Special compliment to a the elderly gentlemen at the reception, who was very kind and friendly during the stay, and personally led me to find the Chinese restaurant just nearby, and even show the way to taking the Glacier Express train.

The family room we stayed in was very good. We could also cook, have more balconies, and enjoy the cool and scenic view. The hotel is very close to the train station, but the location is very quiet, there is a supermarket diagonally opposite, shopping is convenient. The owner of the hotel is warm and generous. There is a large bowl of apples at the front desk. Guests can take it at will and watch our 4 adults bring a baby. They are afraid of being squeezed and send us a room for free. The hotel’s own thermal pool and sauna are also great, and the pool is also a bubble bath.
