We stayed here for 3 nights and found this place perfect for our needs. It is close to the main square, shops and the restaurants. The staff were great. The receptionist all spoke English. The rooms were cleaned daily, in fact the place was cleaned from top to bottom daily. Spotless! Our breakfast included fresh juice, eggs, bread coffee or tea and each day something a bit different, maybe cheese or olives, always a surprise treat. The WiFi was strong in the rooms. The rooms are large enough that your not tripping over your luggage and they even had hangers! We had our laundry done at the hotel and they did a lovely job. The morning we left, we had an early morning flight. The staff arranged for a taxi to pick us up and even had hot water for coffee waiting for us when we got up at 4 a.m. my only complaint is we should have stayed longer.

Actually we don't wanted to spent a night in Arequipa, but as a guy stole us all our credit Cards, both passports and one of our mobile phone we stood alone at five in the morning at the Busterminal. So we just walked into the city searching for help.. we asked at the Le Foyer Hostel just to use the wifi to block ur credit cards etc.. The guy at the reception (Angel) helped us so much contacting the consulate and the police! While searching for solutions for our Problems Angel even brought us coffee and breakfast for free! We couldnt believe it! After the shift of Angel the girls at the reception continued helping us with everything during that hard day. After our plan to go straight to colca canyon was not possible, the girl at the reception suddenly told us that she talked to the owner of the hostel about our story who offert us to stay at the hostel for free that night! We still cant believe what they did for us. We are so thankfull for everything. Thanks to all of the stuff and the owner for your help! We would love to stay longer at this beautyful hostel (stunning rooftopbar and lovely rooms)! Best regards Julian and Verena.

This place is absolutely beautiful; can’t beat the location (right by the Plaza de Armas and in front of the Catalina Monasterio). The staff is super polite, the rooms extremely clean and spacious, and the breakfast was AMAZING! More amazing was Jaime, head of kitchen staff, who was there every morning to greet us, give us local tips / advice and prepare us meals when we had an early departure — all this with a sincere honesty that is rare to find.

Due to all the virus madness these days our tour was canceled in the middle of it and we were escorted back to Arequipa from Colca canyon. After that we spent 10 days of complete isolation at the hotel Casa Andina Select very much without options. Our tour operator put us in this hotel basically without asking question. And we could not leave. It turns out it was very good choice and I have no words how to describe the service they provided. We were taken care off like we are part of their family. Friendly, helpful and amazing staff was doing everything they could and beyond to make our "jail time" more pleasant. We had one birthday person while staying and they even brought a little cake with candle. They cooked for us everyday delicious meals, prices were fair and affordable. We are in very difficult times at this moment but this hotel is just doing amazing job beyond what they should, or could. THEY CARE. And that is very important because not everybody is like that. Let me thank you for all you guys did for us to survive and be safe and comfortable. We owe you and my recommendation goes to everybody in the world for future travel. This hotel is worthy to pay the money, they are professional, friendly and If I can personally I will stay again in case of traveling to Peru in the future. Thank you again for all your help and lets hope together that this world craziness ends soon. Stay healthy and safe.

Checking in was, one of the few, most pleasant and welcoming we've experienced. Thank you Angie for making us feel so much at home the moment we stepped through the front doors! Room was very clean, comfortable, spacious and well appointed. Room amenities and toiletries were more than adequate. Staff, from the concierge (thank you Victor) through to housekeeping, were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast spread was wonderful and you can't beat the view from the roof terrace whilst having your coffee and croissant. A huge thank you to Gladys and Alex for the warm hospitality you both exuded. Location is excellent. Right in Plaza De Armas and directly across from the cathedral. We would call this hotel ground '0' when in Arequipa! Oh yes.....another big thank you to Nieves who treated us like we were regulars. Kudos to the staff and management! Make sure to return to the hotel for Happy Hour drinks and enjoy the sunset. Not sure if it's a staple but we were entertained by local minstrels during happy hours for the two days we were there. It really was too bad that we only had two nights here...we would have stayed much longer at the drop of a hat but our scheduled itinerary just wouldn't permit it. Prices are in the higher end of the mid-range category but it is well worth it! Needless to say we Highly Recommend this establishment!

My girlfriend and I were stranded for a day when our the airline we were due to fly out on (Peruvian Air) suddenly declared bankruptcy overnight. As we ducked out of the quickly deteriorating sh!t-show that was unfolding around us at the airport, our cab driver suggested we stay at La Gruta for the night while we worked out a plan B. As we pulled up, the staff greeted us warmly and offered us some tea. In less than five-minutes we were in our room, a nicely sized suite with a sliding glass door that opened up into a beautifully landscaped outdoor area complete with lounge furniture, soft grass and a lovely little calico cat who quickly came over to say hello. We spent the evening relaxing under then sunset before departing the following day. The staff was warm and attentive, the bed was comfortable and the experience was exactly what we needed after a VERY long morning. BONUS: La Gruta is located about 10 minutes by foot from Plaza De Armas in the center of town. A short walk will take you past dozens of cafes, restaurants and bodegas before you reach the Plaza, so a quick bite to eat or a cup of coffee is never far. If you want to explore the area by foot, this location is an excellent starting point. If you're looking for a simple, clean, safe and comfortable place to stay during your visit, check out La Gruta, you won't be disappointed. PRO TIP: During our walk through the Plaza, we were pickpocketed by some scammers claiming to be students studying english at a local school. A young girl asked in broken english if she could interview us while her friend recorded the interview on his phone. During the 'interview' someone slipped my iPhone out of my pocket - I never even noticed. I suspect that the guy with the phone "recording" the interview was actually streaming live video to a third person who was working with them in the crowd, helping them locate us so they could snarf my phone while I was distracted. As a New Yorker, I was honestly more impressed than upset at how clever they were. They were, as Jaime Fox so famously said in his seminal film Miami Vice, "smoove." Anyway, keep your gear secure and in a zipped pocket. The Plaza is crawling with pickpockets and scammers. Stay frosty.

Hotel is perfectly located on a busy street close to the main plaza and all attractions & restaurants you could wish for. We were warmly welcomed by a friendly front desk and were able to change breakfast from the actual date to the day that we arrived (as we were leaving to Colca at 3am the next day). They even gave us our room super quickly! Unfortunately we did not get a good-night’s sleep in our room as we were constantly woken up to noises of heavy traffic, fireworks and partying from the street below (even though our room was facing the inner yard). Shower only gave us cold water but that is something you should be used to in Peru. Wifi did not work in room but in common spaces you could do some slow browsing.

We had a comfortable stay at Chamo's house. Chamo himself is very friendly and helpful. The dorm room was clean and comfy. Kitchen was decent though small so cramped when several people are trying to use at the same time. Hot shower between 10am-6pm... which I think is not uncommon in Arequipa. Laundry service available. Good wifi. Good location near the bus terminal and Palomar market. Quiet neighbourhood. Free luggage storage if you go to the canyon for a few days.

This was my 2nd stay at a Selena Hostel while in Peru. Like at the Selena Hostels in Peru, this hostel had lots of cool features and was decorated really nicely. We had a private room but without a bathroom. We got off our Peru Hop at 4am in Arequipa and checked with the front desk to see if there is any possibility of checking in earlier, there was not, however, they did show us the movie room (which has built in sofas) and told us we could stay there. We left our backpacks in the storage room in the main office and went to rest in the movie room. We ended up knocking out in the movie room, it was very dark in there and comfy. We didn't wake up until 11am. So grateful that the staff showed us to the movie room. pros: This hostel is in close proximity to the main town square, has a large outdoor area, has a pool, resturant/bar and con: customer service is not great.

I had reason to travel to Arequipa for business. I chose the Sonesta Hotel in Arequipa due to the positive reviews, but one never knows what they will actually find. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the hotel lived up to the reviews and my expectations. The rooms were large with a comfortable bed (the most important thing for me on my trips). The extended service was exceptional — always greeting me at the front lobby. I didn’t try the complimentary breakfast, but I was able to eat twice in the restaurant and both meals where excellent. The hotel was also able to schedule transportation to and from the hotel for me, which is a huge plus as well. The next time your Arequipa — don’t miss this gem of a hotel.

We ended up at this hostel very unexpectedly after someone in our group fell too sick to continue our journey that day. We were at the bus depot with no wi-fi or anywhere to stay and a man at the info station helped organize us a place to stay. Turns out he was actually the owner of this hostel named Victor and he was awesome! We had no plans in Arequipa but we ended up just chatting with Victor about all his adventures as a mountaineer and climber and he shared great stories and photos of some of his remote and gnarly adventures in Peru. He also guides tours all over Peru that are not the typical tourist attractions and some of the first of their kind. We left feeling like we have to come back to South America just to visit some of the places he was showing us! I even reached out to him on facebook later on in our journey and he recommended us great alternatives to the busy treks around Cuzco. He taught us all about the volcanoes and mountains around Arequipa and even though we were only in the city for a short time we felt like we got to know something about the area. The hostel itself had some of the comfiest beds we experienced on our trip, the room was large and very comfortable. Hot showers and the Wifi worked well. Victor and his family are very kind and they were in process of building a beautiful rooftop patio that will be awesome once completed! The location is excellent, very close to the city centre & attractions.

What I loved about my stay at Mansion Riviera was the fact that the rooms had a dage, a fridge and a modern bathroom. The staff were also extremely helpful and professional. For example, they helped me to organized a 2 day tour to the Colca Canyon with a three star hotel with minimum fuss and when I was having problems booking my Machu Pichu trip through the hotel in Cusco, they immediately phoned them to try to clarify and sort the situation out. The location is also fantastic since it is just a few blocks up the road to the main square. A very good choice for a mid-range hotel!!!!

We paid 659 soles for a three bedroom apartment for three adults for four nights through Agoda. The hotel was secure and in an upmarket residential neighbourhood. It was a 950 meter, slightly up hill, walk to Plaza de Armas. The hotel arranged an airport transfer for 30 soles which worked perfectly. The young lady at reception spoke good English and was very helpful. The multi-level hotel does not have a lift. The apartment was sufficiently spacious with a lounge suite, dining table and chairs and kitchen. The televisions were in the bedrooms, not the living room. There was one double room and a smaller room with a double and single beds, which shared a bathroom. There was another small double room with a small en suite. The apartment was a little tired with patched and mismatched furniture. It was serviced daily. Reception helped us arrange off site laundry for 5 soles per kilo which was excellent. The kitchen was not really well equipped. It had a blender and a slow cooker, unlikely appliances for travellers, but nothing as useful as a toaster, griller or sandwich press. Overall it was good value for a serviced apartment.

My friend and I booked a 4 night stay January 20-24, 2020. We communicated with the hotel via email and received quick, helpful responses to our questions. We wanted a small, quiet hotel within walking distance to the historic center of town. The Villa Elisa definitely met these requirements! Our room was very comfortable and we had a private terrace looking out at the lovely gardens. Unfortunately it was a bit chilly and rainy to use the terrace but this would be a real asset in warmer weather. We ate several meals at the hotel (in addition to the included breakfast) and although they had a limited menu everything we had was tasty and nicely prepared and service was excellent. The decor of the hotel was delightful with many interesting items in the public rooms. If I had to pick the most outstanding asset of the hotel it would be the people (including the owner) who went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful to ensure we had an excellent stay. They arranged airport transportation for us--both from and to. Our owner and host even arranged an early breakfast for us on our departure day as we had an early morning flight. If you are planning to visit Arequipa I highly recommend that you choose the Villa Elisa to be your "home away from home."

After battling traffic and being unable to find the place we were originally looking for, my husband parked our car rental in from of El Balcon, and asked if a room was available. What a pleasant surprise when we entered and saw this gorgeous converted mansion with charming rooms and the nicest staff you could imagine! Everything was perfect--the room was spacious, the shower was hot and plentiful, and, at night it is quiet (believe it or not, the traffic stops at around 8:30 pm so you get a very restful sleep). Breakfast in the morning was delicious and beautifully presented. Evelyn and Milagros went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Additionally, I think this is one of the only places in the historic district that has secure, covered parking! We highly recommend El Balcon in Arequipa. You will feel like you are going back in time while staying here, even though it has all the modern conveniences you could possibly want, plus, all the historic sites and restaurants are within walking distance.

There are, historically, really only two types of hotels in Perú - low-end, efficiency hostals and ‘hotels’ that are just for sleeping; and high-end luxury oriented hotels that cater to the tourist traveler. Over the last 5 years there has been a growing sector of boutique hotels that cater to the business traveler, as well as the tourist traveler. This shift has revolutionized travel for business travelers looking for nice, well apportioned and fastidiously maintained hotels to make a Basecamp for work projects and activities. The Palla is a great place. The ‘bones’ of the hotel are beautiful - capturing the historic richness of Arequipa silar stone architecture and the modern conveniences of a high-end hotel. Add to the effect, an awesome rooftop terrace where breakfast is served daily and guests can enjoy an evening drink while marveling at the sunsets and cooling of the Arequipa nights. The rooms - I stayed in a king, are clean, modern and have good plug connections to charge all manner of electronic device. Finally the bathrooms have great water pressure and plenty of hot water - not always the case in Peruvian hotels . . . even luxury hotels. I come to Arequipa often, and when I’m not staying at our partners office/house - I will definitely stay at Palla Boutique Hotel.

We really enjoyed this boutique hotel which is located across from the Monastery and within a few blocks from the main square. The hotel opens immediately into an open courtyard, and then has several different floors of places for intimate spaces inside and outside. When we wanted to include everyone in our group, we sat in the courtyard, when we wanted just a glass of wine and quieter conversations, we could find an alcove in a myriad of places. Our room was spacious and even included a bath which I loved! We loved being able to have mate de coca available to us throughout the day as we accustomed ourselves to the high altitude. Breakfast was continental with several different breads, spreads, cheese, deli meats, and eggs. For the times you are just hanging out, they even have ping pong! I throughly enjoyed myself and would have given it five stars except that our experience with the spa was not perfect and I agree with a former guest that there are needed repairs. We enjoyed ourselves and relaxed the entire hour in the wet sauna (with herbs) and whirl pool/pool - but we were never given a towel and never given a juice. When we asked the front desk about it, they acted like we should have known to come to the front desk for the towels -- and we never received our juice but still paid the $12. Our room had a blind on the glass door looking out of the hotel. The blind was shedding white paint all over the floor and really needs to be replaced. Otherwise, we loved our stay.

I had the misfortune of altered travel plans due to the covid-19 pandemic. Myself along with 6 others got stuck in Arequipa trying to get to the embassy in Lima and stumbled upon the Wyndham hotel. I can not stress this enough - everything about our stay was top notch. The staff were amazing. The manager George catered to our every need. He speaks fluent english and was at our disposal at all times. Because we were stranded for an indefinite period of time, he was able to give us some deals to make it more affordable. He had staff run to the market for us for essentials as we could not leave the hotel. When there was suspicion of a potential case in the hotel (never tested positive), he moved us to a more comfortable room further away. I'm yet to see a manager at a hotel more dedicated to the satisfaction of his guests. Thank you George from all of us. The food was great. There were plenty of options for a reasonable price. Essentially, you could spend what you wanted to spend. Whether it be 25 SOL for pasta, to 50+ SOL for alpaca or other finer dishes. Walker was our server for most meals, and was nothing short of incredible. Very personable and great at his job. We looked forward to him serving us each day. You're the man Walker! All other restaurant staff gave exceptional service - we just didn't get their names. The rooms were cleaned every day and looked just as good as the day we arrived. The housekeeping staff were very friendly at all encounters. They wore gloves and masks at all times, giving us comfort knowing all precautions were being taken. The front desk were extremely helpful in navigating us through any issues or dilemmas we ran into throughout the 2 weeks whether it be cell phone troubles, or finding our way to the local market when it was permitted. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. The hotel was running minimal events as there were only 12 guests through the state of emergency but we were very comfortable and pleased. The pool is great, the grounds were well kept and the gym was a nice way to kill time. The 100 year old turtle and 4 alpacas were a very nice touch. Thank you to the Wyndham for turning an unfortunate time into an unforgettable experience. - The 7 Canadians

I stayed in Hostal Espinoza for almost two weeks at the end of October / beginning of November 2019. The rooms are simple, but tall and with plenty of space. You wake up with the daylight as it is a historic building with round windows in the roof. This gives the hostel a special atmosphere. The facilities are clean. The Wifi is good. You can`t leave the hostel without passing the common space, which gives you plenty of options to interact either with other travelers or the owner Karen, her daugther, her sister or her brother. Karen is a very funny, friendly and helpful person. If you need something, she always tries her best to help you. Originally I intended to stay for 6 days only, but I felt really comfortable in the hostel and with Arequipa being a nice city I ended up spending 13 nights in La Espinoza. I can definitely recommend staying there.

The hotel is in an excellent location (just off the Plaza de Armas), but this means it fronts onto a busy street. Don't let this put you off, though - as the inner rooms are very quiet. No in-room refreshment facilities (eg kettle), but a good supply of coffee, tea and coca leaves in the reception area - with a hot and cold water dispenser. Comfortable bed, fluffy towels in the bathroom & good water pressure / temperature in the shower. Breakfasts are prepared to order from a menu, with local bread and jams served alongside. I mostly opted for fruit, yoghurt and grains - the local fruit is absolutely excellent. Really helpful staff - booked transport from and to the airport for me, as well as arranging a one day Colca Valley trip with a local tour operator. I had to miss breakfast on two days, so packed alternatives were provided for me - a really nice touch.

While visiting Arequipa and Colca Canyon we stayed at QP Hotels for 3 nights. This hotel is located off of a quiet street by the Plaza de Armas. The building has colonial architecture and the staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was free and was served in a beautiful restaurant on the Hotel Property. The kitchen staff was wonderful and guided us on the available options, including pancakes, waffles and other foods. The hotel has a beautiful terrace that has furniture for relaxing with a nice view of the city. The best part of the stay was the quiet room and especially the beds with down pillows and comforter. That was the most comfortable bed we slept on in Peru. Before we traveled to Colca Canyon the staff stored our luggage without charge . Overall, the hotel was an amazing value!

While the single room I booked is in a decent size and reasonably clean; during my stay there it didn’t have WiFi service promised and the space heater in the room was not at all functional. Both of these issues were brought to the hotel’s attention but nothing was done to it. The most serious offense came when I booked a Colca Canyon tour at the hotel through a tour operator owned by the same company as the hotel (Del Solar Travel); I paid 80 Soles and given a receipt clearly indicating that I would picked up the same night/early morning at 3pm at the hotel for a one-day Bi-lingual tour. 3am came and went but no one showed up to pick me up. The night-shift receptionist was very helpful in contacting the tour operator but was told different reasons why my booking was never done (it turns out that receptionist at the hotel took my money, gave me the booking confirmation but never called the tour operator). After the tour operator first promised to reroute the bus to pick me up, then asked me to do the tour the next day (which I cannot), and offered a irrelevant tour for free at 9:30am in the morning (which I refused since the sole reason for me to make a stop in Arequipa is to see the Canyon). The tour operator then proposed to arranged a taxi (at my expense of 200 soles) so that the taxi could take me to join the group tour; the tour operator never called back and followed through. After waited for 30 mins, I was determined to go visit the Colca Canyon and eventually booked a private tour (even though the tour “guide” speaks little to no English) through the help of the hotel night-shift receptionist at the amount of 350 soles. While the tour “guide” is friendly and the Canyon itself is breathtaking, I was not able appreciate the cultural contexts due to language barrier. Also, the breakfast and lunch included in the group tour were not included in this “private tour.” After reaching out to the company and made a complain, it admitted its fault for not picking me up but offered only 100 soles for the 450 soles out-of-pocket expenses (including meals and tips) that I have incurred due to their mistake. I found it unacceptable but the manager just simply disappeared in the middle of the negotiation process. I don’t want to be cynical, but it all feels like a scam to force single travelers to book a last-minute private car service. If I were you, I would not stay in this hotel and would certainly not book any tours with them!
