We stayed here recently over New Year's Eve (my main goal was to avoid the all-night noise of fireworks in Amsterdam, and a quick getaway). This place is a bit dated but was reasonably clean (and quirky as others have said). I imagine it has scads of tourists in the summer but was quite quiet during our winter stay. The included buffet breakfast was a nice touch. The room was nice-sized with a balcony (though it had seen better days). It has a bowling alley on the premises (we didn't partake, but it looked fun) and a quirky central bar area. The staff were extremely courteous, professional, and helpful (I really needed to get into the room an hour early and they were happy to accommodate us). It is a reasonable distance from the train station if you have to walk or bike, and reasonable biking distance to the Texel ferry. It seemed to be the main hotel in town. The WiFi was in the public areas only but it was more or less accessible from our room (in case that is a priority, as it was for me). So, no frills or luxury, but if you are just looking for sleeping accommodations, it is certainly adequate, and reasonably priced.

Lovely little hotel right in the heart of the town. Fast WiFi is a bonus and the bar out front is well stocked and great coffee. It’s quiet and relaxing and staff very helpful. The price is good and felt well looked after. Recommended

This hotel is ideally located just across the road from the train/bus station. We based ourselves in Den Helder to visit Texel. Being a 20 minute walk, or 10 min bus trip to the ferry, was convenient too. Staff at the hotel are nice, rooms are spacious and comfortable. Small outside balcony was nice to relax in too. Walls are a bit thin, but that didn't really bother us. Breakfast served is good too, has a nice variety to choose from. There are plenty of restaurants and shops just outside the hotel. Recommended.

I stayed at the Grand Beatrix for one week recently while on business in the area. The hotel is in an amazing location right next to the sea, which includes incredible walking/running paths and grand vistas. My coleagues have stayed in other hotels and B&Bs in the area and the clear consensus is, Grand Hotel Beatrix is the best hotel in Den Helder area. The hotel is partially haandicap accessible, as there is a ramp outside and a single elevator, however, many (but not all) of the rooms would not be accessible by wheel chair. Parking is plentiful and free, including free parking on the street. (also in downtown Den Helder, parkiing is free everywhere) There is a nice entrance and lobby with a cozy bar/restaurant adjacent. To get to my room I leave the lobby and travel up a flight of stairs, then down a halway with several mini down stair sections. The decor of my room and the hallways is dated and dark. What room features did my room have or didn't have? - Hairdryer: YES - SAFE: NO - Pen and paper: NO - Hotel directory of services: NO (i didn't know they had a pool till just before checkout) - Work desk and chair: NO - Adequate storage space: YES - Telephone: YES The towels were high quality and well stocked Bathroom amanenities (shampoo/body wash/body lotion) refilled as required The bed is low and I did sleep well on it, although I could feel bed springs inside. Glasses provided in th room are thin plastic, althogh somewhere after the 5th day, 2 real glass glassses arrived. The room is fairly sound proof, but the crack under the door to the hall has about a 3/4 inch gap. The small balcony is nice, however the door was difficult to lock. The bottom glass door seal in the bathroom was detached, and one day I didn't see it there anymore, so I assume housekeeping ripped the remainederr off, so a lot of water would leak on the floor. There is a mini bar, which you can unload to put your own stuff in. The flat screen TV is on the small side, but has plenty of free channels. Breakfast was pretty good. The coffee machine is excellent - cappucino or any other type of fresh ground coffee. There was no cut fruit and most of the single fruit pieces were not ripe enough - some hard kiwis. The view was really nice from the upstairs or downstairs breakfast rooms. Staff was very friendly, especially Rick in the breakfast room, who was the most engaging. Overall, this hotel wins on value for money, considering it's superb location and the price I paid. A few modest improvements would really help. What I liked *Location *Staff *Room size To improve *Refurbish room and hallway decor *Add work desk and chair * Add seal to bottom of room door *Upgrade TV size and quality *Include pen and writing pad in room *Include hotel services and amenities book in room *Add cut fruit option for breakfast *Add a welcome note with a couple of chocolates or something

At the northern tip of the province of North Holland, on the edge of the dunes and surrounded by nature, lies the Badhotel Callantsoog. This three star hotel, thanks to its location, is the ideal place for both your holidays and business gatherings. The hotel lies only 500 metres from the beaches of the North Sea, and an hours drive from the lively city of Amsterdam. Just behind the dunes, to the south the town of Callantsoog, is the Zwanenwater (Swan Lake), a beautiful natural area of dunes, grasslands, marsh, coniferous forest and ponds. The Badhotel Callantsoog itself has spacious rooms, most of which have scenic views over the dunes. Its many facilities include a restaurant with a pleasant ambiance and a good kitchen, guaranteeing an enjoyable dinner. You can relax in the sauna and solarium. Or get rid of your energy on the squash courts. The hotel has eight versatile rooms, well suited for business guests or for special occasions. Badhotel Callantsoog is the ideal place in North Holland for a relaxing weekend or a mid-week break.

Big hostel, room was spacious, I liked how we could have separate toilets and bathroom. Everything was clean. The cafe and breakfast buffet was quite good. Lots of things to do for kids on the huge play area. Also a nice terrace outside. Bike rentals were good. Bikes were maintained. Parking is not so huge but there is a big public parking right beside. It's a short bike/walk to the center, and it's a really small island so everything is around a 20 min bike or car ride away.

Special mention to the ladies at the reception desk : friendly and helpful. We chose a room with sauna, the room was perfectly clean with a large and comfortable bed and the sauna a real plus. There is a private parking at the back of the hotel, so convenient as parking in Texel is not easy at all.

Our first time on Texel and we picked De Smulpot for our 4 night's stay. Couldn't have been better. It's a restaurant with about 8 beautiful new rooms on top. Entrance is at the back of the restaurant, and as we arrived quite late, it was a bit odd to squeeze through that very busy place with our luggage. But no-one cared and it seemed normal. We had a room on the 2nd floor, and once you've passed the 2 flights of stairs, you enter your sanctuary. We had a lovely, beautiful modern room, great bathroom, all generous size, and spotlessly clean. Our friend's room looked very similar. There is a mini bar with water and a bottle of wine for free, tee/coffee making facility and a safe. We had the windows to the church side, and yes, some days the bells ring even at night, but we slept so well in our huge comfy bed, it didn't bother us. We ate twice at De Smulpot restaurant and the foid was excellent. Breakfast is awe some here: it's all presented on the table for each group or couple, so as we were 4, we had a big table and heaps of food. They bring freshly made fried eggs or ham and egg cooked in a muffin mould, freshly squeezed orange juice, smoothie and yoghurt with berries and a fruit skewer. Staff is awesome and super friendly and the location is perfect in the middle of Den Burg. We parked our car near the tennis place, 5min away on foot. That's free parking and we had the e-vignette anyway. We will come back here. Texel is beautiful and De Smulpot is great

This was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in and am guessing from the reviews on here that people stay because there is a lack of options . Room was claustrophobic , bathroom could hardly be described as such . Very few facilities . Bar was barely stocked . So over priced , would not recommend anyone spend their hard earned money at this hotel . The chain should be embarrassed at trying to pass this off as a hotel ! I don’t even want to give it one star

This is a lovely little hotel and was very comfortable for our two nights stay. The room was small but clean and they provide toiletries as well. You can help yourself to the tea/coffee facilities at anytime which are downstairs in the dining room. It’s located extremely conveniently in the centre of town, across the road from grocery stores and restaurants. We were able to safely store our bikes undercover. The breakfast was fantastic with boiled eggs, fresh, warm bread rolls, juice, cereals, yoghurt and many condiments. A very thorough continental breakfast indeed. We can highly recommend this cute hotel and especially the quiet rooms upstairs at the back.

We stayed in the apartments which are individually owned but managed by the Hotel Pelican. While we were aware that the apartments were individual in decor we were not expecting such a basic apartment. Everything is really old and incredibly uncomfortable in apt. 162. It certainly seems like the cheapest of everything has been put into this apartment. The bed was unbelievable uncomfortable as was the couch. No bathmat, no bread board . We did not feel that this apartment was worth the money at all. The reception at the hotel was also not pleasant, either for check in or check out. We arrived at 7 mins to 3 with 3 being check in time. The receptionist told us that the room will only be ready at 3. We sat in front of her in the reception waiting and, at ten after three when she had still said nothing to us, my husband got up to ask if the apt was ready yet, she didn't even remember his name and to crown it all then said yes and handed us the key that she had had there all the time!! Unbelievable. We were also the only people in the reception area. We will definitely not be back at this establishment. The island is worth visiting though.
