Usual thing when checking in, you have to pay resort fee's so bare that in mind. Room was what to expect for the price you pay. If you want to keep your luggage stored once checked out it's $5 per person to store your luggae and $2 for a padlock. Able to use the shower's etc once checked out if needed before you fly out.

Upon arrival from AUS at 8.30 am my phone battery was flat and my bank travel Mastercard card wasn’t working so I was unable to pay the taxi driver. I was travelling solo and hadn’t slept in 36 hours so I was stressed and barely lucid when I walked in to the hotel. Lucia at front desk took care of things for me. We got my phone working, got the cab driver paid then she called house keeping and organised a room to be cleaned ASAP so I could check in early. I was in my room in bed by 10am thanks to her.
After a lovely afternoon out and about, the next morning I woke up vomiting and running a fever. They don’t have room service so the front desk staff brought anti-nausea drugs and water up to my room within 3 minutes of me calling. They offered to phone and check in on me throughout the day as they knew I was travelling alone. The next morning when I checked out at 5.30am to get to LAX I got in my Uber and as it was about to leave the woman on front desk came running out, stopped us from leaving and said to me “you said your Uber’s a Nissan, this isn’t a Nissan, you should get out of the car”. It turned out a previous guest had taken my Uber. Once we realised this, the driver of the Uber I was in would not take me, told me to leave his vehicle and get my bags out of his car. As I had a plane to catch and was worried I would miss it, the same front desk lady rang me a cab which arrived in minutes. If you are a solo traveller STAY AT THIS HOTEL!! The rooms are beautiful, spacious and clean. To top it all off Lucia didn’t charge me for early check in;
she said given how stressful getting there had been, it was the least she could do to help. Gifts from God and great beds to boot!

Everyone was nice, we needed some plastic forks for our food and they had them at the desk. Due to Covid I assume no one can come to the room. When I when to use the restroom I had noticed that they had not replaced the toilet paper, not cool. Makes me wonder how CLEAN and sanitized it was. The out door patio is nice, and cool view for Xmas lights.

This place is close to everything. People that own it are super nice. It is an older hotel but it is a great little gem. The price for the room was very reasonable also I highly recommend And tell them Carol Ann sent you Have a great time at this little gem! I can only imagine all the people that drove Route 66 and ended up staying right here. I’m sure this place is a piece of that history

It is one block away from the 3rd street promenade end (the pedestrian commercial walk). All of this makes a very good location for touristic purposes. There are not many convenience stores around, but some within walking distance. The main restaurants and bars are a bit further, but also within walking distace. The hotel itself has very nice staff and very modern and nice decor. There are many signs of neglection here and there (minor details), nothing that affect the stay or the ambience per se, but for very detail oriented people, this might look weird. Other than that, the hotel is a very nice stay.

I would not recommend Hotel Carmel. I am frustrated with this place because I wanted to like Hotel Carmel, it's quaint and had character but the customer service was the worst I've received, hope to never experience again. I paid third party, arrived May 14-15 and took a loong time to check in, which is fine, I wasn't in a rush, but it was strange that I had to fill everything once more, provide my card and ID (standard). Once in the room, concierge came up and told me he had to swiped my card and charge me since he had not (despite having paid third party which had already been reiterated and confirmed downstairs). Figured it was for deposit. Wrong, charged for much more than I had already paid for the night, which was substantial. Then went downstairs and showed the transaction, another concierge assisted, reversed the transaction but took a looong time, guys I'm not kidding you, and I am patient. Told me the valet for $38 (it said $25 valet on my email receipt with the 3rd party but oh well) and resort fee will be waived once I check out. The next morning I mention it to the lady and she was oblivious, said it was already charged, she wasn't aware and I would need to speak to the the concierge, manager that night. I asked for a written email since I didn't want to go through the hassle a third time when I called, she did not want to, although it's a standard method of documentation amongst customer and company. Between the lack of communication, professionalism, training, documentation, process, it's a zero star.

They are dependable and consistent, but are always missing the small details that would bring them to great in my opinion. Service is always excellent and property is always well maintained. The details that are consistently missing: GOOD COFFEE, lighted magnified makeup mirror, nice fluffy towels and lots of them, more than one bar of soap, extra pillows. At this hotel we had three pillows, if you are going to sit up and read you need at least four. There was not a single wash cloth so I used a large towel to wash my face. Only one bar of soap and no shower gel so the soap travelled from sink to shower a few times. No top sheet on the bed so we were sleeping directly under the quilt, kind of creepy wondering if they wash the quilt after every guest. This hotel had excellent security which I appreciated because the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. You could not enter the hotel at all or use the restrooms in the lobby without a hotel key. If you didn’t have a key the receptionist would have to buzz you in. Valet parking only and expensive at $49, but worth it for convenience and safety. I did not take advantage of the pool or breakfast, but nice that they have them.

Super clean, great shower and comfortable bed with fluffy bedding. Room came with a cute kitchen area. Convenient to Big Blue Bus stops which are fabulous for getting around Santa Monica and surrounding areas. I plan on staying here again!

They have valet parking (no self parking) which was $50/night for me. Ridiculous. Do NOT park here. The front of the hotel has several empty 15 min spaces that you can use to park, unload, check-in and then drive 1/2 a block to much cheaper and easier parking. In fact, directly behind the hotel is a parking structure that is better. The Room The Good: I had an ocean view room. I was nice because where it was located you could actually see the beach/ocean. The shower was hot and strong. The AC worked well. The Bad: Outdated. Everything in the room felt like it came from a garage sale. Not really very nice, nothing really matched. Smelly. The room smelled from the first day to my last day. Smelled like swamp gas all the time. Noisy. The walls seem to be paper thin. I was often woken up by the neighbors. The door had a 1/4 inch gap all around the frame. I could almost look into the hallway through the door. So everyone going through the hallway making noise was as bad as if I had the door was opened. Staff. The front desk staff wasn't very helpful. Not welcoming at all. Not to the point of being rude, but almost. Very unfriendly and unaccommodating. Bottom line: I would not stay here again nor would I recommend to someone to stay here. I heard good things about the Shore Hotel, and would probably stay there next time.

The pillows and sofa bed are a little uncomfortable, but the flaws are good. The breakfast is of the same level as the hotel. There are rich omlets made on site and a lot of fruits and vegetables. The hotel also has a Mexican restaurant. It’s delicious and has good drinks. It’s a good choice for a stopover during a family trip.

The color scheme is neutral and relaxing and everything is designed to calm the senses and the mind. This is a very generous hotel offering free boxes of water and a beautiful coffee and tea spread every morning. This type of generosity goes a long way to building loyalty and making a guest feel special. The rooms are beautifully appointed. This compensates for the small size of the rooms. The gym is one of the best fitness centers I have been to in any hotel and the equipment is up to date and in excellent condition. The roof top bar is chic and stylish without being pretentious. I loved this hotel and will return again and again. I would say it is in my top ten in the world!

We celebrated our wedding weekend here and the hotel unexpectedly upgraded our room and had a bottle of champagne and strawberries for us on arrival. It made such a special weekend even more special. The hotel staff was exceptional. Lenny, Dan, Josh, and the rest of the staff went out of their way to make sure our experience was unforgettable. The rooms were spacious and immaculate. The restaurant was gorgeous—made even better with the natural light and ocean view. We loved the specialness of the gym that was filled with top of the line equipment and the coolest dumbbells I have ever seen! Every time we can and went from the hotel, we were met with nothing but kindness and grace. We will most definitely be back.

The actual two places are far away. Living here is the next day, half an hour by plane from the airport. It is not far from the beach and the Getty Center. The service is very good. When I arrived at the airport, I found that I forgot my passport at the hotel. They helped me find it very efficiently and I didn't miss the flight. They also specifically said that I didn't need to tip, which is what they should do.
Disadvantages: The balcony is so small that I can't stretch my legs when sitting on the chair.

The building is old and has natural deficiencies with faucets, windows, ect due to its age, but the location, views, beds, commodities and service from the staff is truly unmatched. They sent us champagne and fresh fruit, which was delicious and they were so attentive each time we came and went. The vallet parking crew was so sweet, timely and efficient. Always talking to the kids and asking them about their adventures. I would definitely consider staying here again. Wonderful experience all around!

The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly and the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits were superb, too. Our room looked out directly onto the beautiful beach & boardwalk, and the jacuzzi tub was an amazing added bonus! The outdoor pool & hot tub were amazing, and just perfect to watch the beautiful west-coast sunsets. We also enjoyed the bar and a nice breakfast overlooking the ocean in the morning, and the free bike rental service to bike to Venice Beach. The entire experience was brilliant, do not hesitate to stay at this amazing hotel and make sure you make time in your schedule to enjoy all the amenities on offer.
