We stayed two nights here while visiting nearby Kinosakionsen. Located a five minute walk from Toyooka station, it also is a short distance off the main east-west shopping strip. The hotel clearly caters to the business trade (to be fair, Toyooka is not exactly a top tourism destination) and has a boardroom-style look and feel at ground level. Unusually, there was a small guest lounge, with microwave and tea/coffee facilities, as well as reading matter. Our double room was more generously-sized than many in Japan, as was the (slightly firm) bed. A key attraction is the well-appointed onsen on the 2nd floor. Breakfast (included with our package) offered an extensive range of hot & cold Japanese & western items, with attentive staff. We’d happily stay here again, should we need to be in Toyooka.

Building was renovated from a bank built in 1925. The atmosphere was magnificent but relaxed, staff’s service was perfect. They have amazing dinner and breakfast using local product. It was an amazing stay and definitely will be back for another occasion!

The hotel is a perfect place for short stay if you are visiting Kinosaki Onsen. It's close proximity to station and the bus stop makes it ideal location to stay. The staff are very cordial. They understand English so easy to communicate. They provide complimentary snacks for each night per person (choose from a variety of drinks and nibbles or cup noodles. Rooms - Standard Japanese style with a bath tub and window with a good view. We stayed in room 513. Regular room cleaning service is offered by giving the keys at the reception as it looks like they do not enter the room without having your room keys. Breakfast - Regular Japanese style so if you cannot eat Japanese food then it is difficult to enjoy the meal. Overall a good pleasant place to stay in a mid range hotel with necessary amenities.

We spent a night at Kinosaki Onsen in Mikuniya after being charmed by the reviews. However, what we experienced made the reviews feel somewhat overrated. Here’s for the stay: reached Mikuniya after a short walk from the station (give it about 3-5mins). Hospitality upon arrival felt slightly lacking. We were invited to pick out the coloured Yukatas (for females) and a female staff brought us to our room, sat us down and gave a short brief on what to wear and when; this took less than 5 mins after which she rushed off. There were some paper instructions on how to put on the yukata but being our first time, we were quite clueless but no one actually helped us put it on the right way - it was like they couldn’t quite care. To be fair, the ryokan did offer tea and some welcome snacks which we appreciated. Meals were ok (standard fare) although they served 4 vegetarian sets for dinner instead of the requested 2 veg and 2 non-veg sets, leaving me feeling somewhat peeved as it wasn’t what was requested. For breakfast, they offered vegetarian sets at their Sister ryokan (western breakfast) but we wanted to have breakfast together so I insisted on Japanese breakfast sets - Mikuniya acceded to the arrangement after some negotiation over emails and upon arrival (but it was actually possible hence we learned that non-mainstream arrangements will require some effort to convince). Check-out was quick but cold maybe due to language barriers. My recommendation is to go to Kinosaki during the winter season for better sceneries, more worthwhile meals (with snow crab), and moreover, cold weather makes onsens more appealing. Do spend at least 2 nights if u want to visit more onsens or explore further (check in is 3pm and check out is 10am for most ryokans). If not, 2d1n will do. There is this shop serving creme brûlée desserts in the area - from our experience, we reckoned each guest needs to order at least 1 item. We tried ordering 1 to share but were not welcomed - quite a shock and disappointment as we were totally caught off guard.

We stayed at the Yutouya Ryokan for 1 night in mid-December and had a fabulous time. Quick summary below: Positives: - Very friendly, warm staff. One particular gentleman (Junya san) had good English and was able to guide us through what we needed to know. The other staff are not as proficient, but were very warm and helpful and we always managed to get what we needed. - Gorgeous grounds, this ryokan has some lovely traditional japanese gardens. Our room was on the ground floor and we could just walk out back and enjoy this. - Room size was great, it is standard tatami style. The hotel staff will set up your bed as you have your dinner in their dining area. - Food quality was good. Their dinner consisted of a crab feast, which I believe is typical of the area. The crab was fresh, sweet and juicy. Breakfast was traditional Japanese breakfast with a few more bells and whistles. Negatives: - I took one star off the rating because the ryokan in general was quite old and in some areas, this was obvious. For example, there were a couple of small areas where there was some peeling of the wallpaper (in a corner of a room and corner of a corridor). All in all, my husband and I loved staying there and felt very well taken care of. We certainly enjoyed our time at the Yutouya Ryokan and generally in Kinosaki.

My biggest impression of this place is just how much food they give you. I was so stuffed halfway through the meal, yet there was still more crab to be eaten! Each person was given a full crab and it was prepared in different ways. First you eat slightly cooked legs, then crab nabe, then like sukiyaki, then a porridge with crab in it and the crab miso. It's a ton of crab and by the end, you probably won't want crab for a long time. Everything was so delicious, especially the amaebi I got in the beginning and the dessert of fresh fruit was lovely after all the crab. The lady who helped us change into our yukata and served us food was so caring and the whole ryokan almost feels like you're staying in someone's house with it not being that big. You get a bath pass to go to the Kinosaki onsens and it's located right in the middle of the town making it very convenient to go to any of them. I did not go in the onsen in the ryokan itself because I was too busy going to the other ones around town. Breakfast was also lovely and I just had a very good time.

I had the pleasure of staying here with 3 of my friends for one night during the long weekend. We had a little trouble finding it, but that was mostly because we were distracted by the many beautiful sights and shops that Kinosaki had to offer, all of which were well within walking distance of this cozy little ryokan. Upon finding the entrance, we were impressed by the mossy stone and tree-filled corridor that led us away from the busy energy of the main street and transported us to a place of comfort and peace. The reception was filled with several staff members waiting to greet us and show us to our room. Despite this, it was unbelievably quiet. Check in took a minute before we were shown to our room. The room was clean, brightly lit, and could accommodate all four of us. Though I found the ensuite bathroom to be a little small, that is only because I'm over six feet. My friends didn't seem to take any issue with it. Wifi was available in the room, and comfortable yukatas and traditional overcoats were provided for us to change into during our stay that really tied the whole experience together. If they don't have one that fits you in the room, you can call down to the front desk to request a larger size. I was thankfully able to get one that was long enough to accommodate my height! My only gripe was the fact that the mini fridge in our room was not for personal use but rather was full of beer, soda, and other drinks that would be charged to the room. We had opted to bring out own drinks, but others might find it convenient that they don't have to go to the corner store if they don't want to. While this ryokan is certainly more affordable than others, we had opted for a more expensive reservation that included a special seasonal dinner of snow crab, the local delicacy of Kinosaki during the winter. The reservation stated that each person would get 1.3 servings of crab. I wasn't sure what that meant but rest assured we all ate more than our fill of crab. No one left the table hungry. Rice, soup, salad, pickles, vegetables, and even beef were among the side dishes served along the SEVERAL courses of crab. Not only was everything delicious but beautifully presented. Great for those who love to Instagram their food~ As with most of the local Ryokans, passes were provided for us to enjoy the many hot springs that the town had to offer, which we enjoyed thoroughly. It is absolutely recommended that you do this, or at least head out for an after-dinner stroll along the canal. This allows the hotel staff to come into your room to freshen things up and lay out the futon beds and duvets for the night. This meant that when we returned sleepy from our hot-spring baths, our beds were already made and waiting for us. We all slept in the same room, talking late into the night before settling down into a comfortable sleep. Then in the morning after breakfast, we went downstairs to the ryokan's own private baths to freshen up before our check
